Hi petelongrs, yes that is correct and is why fish kills often happen in the early hours at high temperatures. You'll find lots more information like that in my book, available on my website, Amazon and elsewhere

Wonder if you can tell me the difference between Upright Water Milfoil and Spiked Water Milfoil - as we were recommended Spiked, but have had to buy Upright as it's all we could get. Thanks
Hi, Upright milfoil (M crispatum) is not native and grows in less deep water but is quite similar. Spiked milfoil (M spicatum) is native and has reddsih stems and a more feathery appearance and will grow to great depth if the water is clear. M verticillatum is also native and good and we have this available now.
@@DevonPondPlants thanks for reply - ah ok - wasn't aware the Upright milfoil wasn't native - I was trying to have a fully native pond, that will be my only non-native... Perhaps I'll take it out and replace with the Spiked milfoil.

Yes all plants do use oxygen at night I think
