  • In this oxygenating pond plants guide, David initially covers the broad question of what is an oxygenator, before covering topics such as their seasonality, how many oxygenators you might need in your pond, and what you do with them when you get them. He also covers the three types of oxygenator plants (all underwater, part underwater, mostly above water) and discusses why some are better than others.
Finally, David goes into further depth about the most common oxygenator pond plants that are available commercially in the UK.
You can gain further information on the subjects covered in this video, and more pond plant advice and tips in David's new book: Ponds - A practical guide to design, construction and planting.

@@jackstone4291 combat heavy metals in our tap water phosphate and plants are also good as extracting ammonia directly from the water before it is broken down into nitrite and nitrate so good protection against ammonia spikes

    Hi there,
Loved the video really informative! Wondering what are your opinions on Water Violets as oxygenators? Looking at getting some for my small barrel pond along side some hornwort?

Hi Tim, it's a lovely plant but is quite hard to grow well in my area. If it likes your water chemistry it may be ok for you😎

Very informative. I don't recall you mentioning water starwort which is great for wildlife.
