What am I judging:
Any Faction that is Playable on the Campaign Map at the Start.
There's other playable factions that can easily be modded in, but it is excluding those.
What do I rank them on:

This should begin when my new computer and internet arrive, could be anywhere between 1-3 Weeks.

I do have Windows 10. To fix the FPS I had to use the d3d8 file. There's guides for that online.
As for Streamin time, it will usually be around the Afternoon- Evening UK time.

It's not a pc power issue, it's a bug issue with new pcs on older games that has certain stuff not work.
However, I may just stay with Large, to help with the path-finding. Don't know yet, there may end up been a vote. : )

Vikings were not a realm, but just the plunderers from Scandinavia.
Not all Northmen were Vikings, but if you view the Vikings as a realm, they are actually the worst because 100% of them were plunders.
I think the point of Sarmatians and Goths are to leave your settlement and migrate to richer lands like Italy or Greece. The starting settlement is more of a historical flavour than a gameplay thing. Same with other Barbarians but they are more likely to survive without turning into a horde.

I do love them.
Everybody who hates them basically just doesn't know how to use them. Cav archers are kings through and through, the most broken unit in RTW and in RTW:BI. If you can't use them properly I have only one advice - git gud.
Men in general hate missile cavalry, thats litteraly how noobs play, when i first played Rome total war, i took the Scythians and was laughing at my opponents that could do nothing to catch me, even with good troops, i felt bad so i decided to don't use it anymore
The Celts are one of my favorite factions they have very unique and strong troops and I’m definitely biased being Irish
It's a pity they are unplayable(

I actually enjoyed a lot playing with the Alemanni, way more than with the Franks.
Another interesting would be the Berbers but I've never tried them.
Downside of the berbers is the very limited roster on units
Melkor: I don’t like eastern units. I prefer to have some metal armor.

I had a very fun campaign with the Celts. I just spammed berserkers all the time creating a snowball of destruction on the battlefield. Their building options are quite advanced too, so they could support a huge empire. Just remember to avoid gallowglasses, they are useless against comitatenses if you are using huge units.
What if you not using huge units? I plan on playing them after beating the game as the Goths, apparently their starting regions have pretty low income so it's tough from the beginning.
I might be 2 years later but if you have Rome Remastered, try the mods:
-Mundus Magnus for BI
or
-Barbarus Mundi (BI also) it gives lot more regions, you can see the entirety of Persia and India. But the ai cheats even more, the WRE had legions of doom (30 stacks in northen gaul)
The Alemani are my favorite. You're attacked from Rome at the start. If you make it through that, normally Frank's will attack you and you also battle some goths or huns.
I don't like having the ability to horde and I think Saxons are too easy.
YAY! Another Alemanni fan, they are so underrated, i know they use the lombard roster, their troops could had at least have been renamed just like some units of the Romano-British about the Western Roman Empire.
I feel weird to have Lombard Berserkers when fighting the proper lombards.
In Remastered Rome TW BI i could suggest you a mod that will make the campaign even harder for the Alemanni: "Ruins of Rome 500 AD" omg the ostrogothic kingdom is obsessed about attacking your tribe, then the frankish and burgundian kingdoms joins the ostrogothi, you can still repel waves after waves of enemies but you won't have the cash to just retrain/replenish your troops (by the way thats medium difficulty)
By now im a Great Germanic Empire (Alemanni) and now fighting the sedentary hunnic empire that took over the balkans
I liked the Sarmatians. Made them a Horde and conquered Constantinople really easy. From there on I was almost unstoppable.

They forgot to add the Suebi, the most underrated of the germanic factions in history during the barbarian invasion.
I enjoyed playing as Eastern Roman Empire more, cause the Huns are much closer, the Eastern border is also in danger and constant rebellions make for a very entertaining campaign

They have like 600 men and no walls, no economy and they have to take on the entire 20,000 man armies of the Vandals and Huns on turn 3
You're not meant to fight the huns and Vandals, you're meant to pick up your bags and move somewhere else, There's prime real estate in Greece. Same for the Goths btw

With the most interesting army imo and a nice map color they are my favorite faction as well
In Remastered, there is even a mod that makes them be more op , mod name: FRANKS OP and they can build everything the Romans can build and have more units, unfortunately this mod crash my game

The Alemanni are just a perfect faction, their unit roster is just perfect and their placement is gorgeous
Personally speaking I love playing the Sassanids. At Normal difficulty their campaign tends to be too easy, but they've got enjoyable troops types (albeit revolving about horse archers), great architecture, a good mixture of desert and mountain... not to mention their unique religion. As for the barbaric factions, I've got a penchant for the Lombardii. The two Roman Empires, well, are for periods when you have "big chunks of time off", as Melgone himself would suggest. Great expansion, no doubt.
As the Goths, you have one shot at defending from the hordes...
And thats with a fast recruted army holding at the most eastern bridge of your land.
This is if they dont go around. (What they ussualy dont)
The Huns may attack the Vandals and the Vandals become irrelevant. The Huns attack you with so many armies that with walls you can sally out and AI sucks and stands in tower. Killed 4000 huns took 100 casualties on normal unit size. Take Campus Iazyges and rush gothic spearmen then goth raiders.
Ai is bad at diplomacy, will often accept peace and you get off free. I had a really fun campaign with this luck and strategy
You can actually hold them off by getting enough Gothic Spearmen to hold the starting town if you do it right. You have to keep them from getting killed by the cav-archers while also stopping the enemy from pouring through the holes they make in the walls, but if you can block the gaps and not get pushed back, and kill the enemy Generals you can break the whole horde or at least make them move elsewhere. It's hard tho 😀

“Saxons have the best infantry” the game says. Yeah but your levy spearmen are your best unit until chosen axemen and hearth troops. I found the lack of variety disappointing, even the alemani have more infantry variety including the chosen axemen of the saxons :(
yeah i dont know why do saxons have like one axe unit, one sword unit and that is pretty much it, the Attila version of the saxons has so many different units

Playin with other factions, I never see them succeed. Either low public order gets them or Alemanni.
The Vandals are actually one of my favs, they are fun if you don't take too long to settle somewhere.
They get some really good Infantry as well, decent swordsmen and heavy spearmen.
The Goths are my other fav. You can either horde or stand and fight, I've played both ways.
I played as the Vandals once. Wanted to beeline for the African coast so I headed south.. but no ports until I got to Athens. And then I was like.. oh, this is kind of nice. Unlikely to garner too much attention. I'll just take it easy and rest on the beach. ;o)
And then I suddenly had replaced the western part of the ERE. Funny how that happens.
Goths are a fun faction to play as, too.
@@LyricalDJ yeah I liked playing as the Goths too. You can either horde or defend the first settlement with spearmen from the steppe hordes (though that 2nd option can be a bit hard sometimes, I kinds prefer it...when it works lol), i've done both in different playthroughs.
In my last runthrough as the Vandals, they basically replaced the historical Frankia, plus a bit more - all of Gaul, 'Germany' and Italy. 😀
I just wish the Saxons had more troop options, I like the idea of playing as them, but they are so limited. Or that the Romano - British were playable, try to take the WRE over as a successor state, now THAT would be an interesting playthrough, with Graal Knights!

The Sassanids are fun to play but I’m always super annoyed and flustered when I start the game and there’s like full armies with generals as garrisons in settlements but little militia forces on the frontline. I have to take the first couple turns organizing everything
Well try play the Roman empires and you will get a taste of the damn management in the early turns..
imo Barbarian Invasion is a nice rise on difficulty level since base RTW, where factions like Sassanyds or ERE are super easy while if you go to central/west european factions the difficulty spikes up considerably to levels not ever seen in the original Rome.

I tend to prefer the eastern empire because you start off with a pretty strong enemy, whereas the western empire's enemies are fairly small and weak. And I tend to have built up enough of a defence that even the hordes aren't much of an issue by the time they come over.
I know its kinda late, but a week ago I started to play as the Alemanni (Remastered) and they are not so bad, they are a bit as a challenge.
I first tried them in the mod "Ruins of Rome, 500 AD" and in that mod they are basically unplayable, the ostrogoths sends waves after waves, then the franks joins the war, then the burgundians. So I tried them without mods, in regular 363 AD and now im a powerful REICH!
Pretty much the only way to play as the Alemanni is blitzing the Saxons and then beating the Franks to taking Roman France. Absolutely great campaign, probably the hardest barbarian faction
I never had trouble with the Sarmatians AI hordes suck in auto resolves so I just do that with the Huns and Vandals till they move on
What do you think about the non-playable factions but that you can unlock editing files like: Celts, Berbers, Roxolani, Burgundii, Romano british and orthogoths? Can you make a top 10 about them?
I actually started a VH VH sarmatian campaign, it was hard af. You have to go for the horde. After awhile I conquered Scandinavia, germania, modern day Poland all the way to Russia (and retook the native land) and parts of central France. So even if you establish an empire, you’re still gonna have a hard time late game as you don’t have many good units, except for cavalry. This made dealing with the sasanids to the east, and with the hordes in my territory really difficult.
For the Horde!
Honestly the Alemani are my favorite, you start at war with Rome and are surrounded by them. On top of that you cannot horde, you have to stand and fight or die. Its a brutal fight. Berserkers also help.
My second favorite are the Franks for 1 reason. I love throwing axes before charging into melee. It is also awesome to have your reserve troops throw axes over your main line.
As you can tell I point a lot of focus on unit rooster and starting positions. I never liked the Saxon unit rooster. Both Roman factions felt like a finished game you just had to make sure not to lose.
The Barbarian Invasion campaign is my all time favorite Total War campaign followed by M2TW.
Saxons have a lot of interesting axe units? Don’t they just have chosen axemen? I love plating the Saxons but they have such a boring army, it’s good but pretty much you just have an army of mounted nobles with a ton of chosen axemen and hearth swords men with some plain hunters.
yes they have one good sword unit, one ok cavalry and one good axe unit, they have maybe the least amount of units in the game for some reason

Thats odd. Some things may not work but it should work like it did for me. There is a known problem with Medieval 2 total war with windows 10 where you can go into the exe file and run it with windows 7 compatibility and it MIGHT work, but who knows with the internet.
Franks are a lot of fun.
Hi, I have a question, how do you change the starting regions in Medieval TW2 and Rome TW Campaing?
It's done through using the Descr_Strat file. It has all the regions labelled under faction names and you can move stuff around in there.If you mess up though, it could crash your game.

I have a question (I'm new to the game btw and this is the first total war game I've bought n played) is there an option to have unlimited turns, coz I was playing the Berber faction and around the 100th turn it said my empire has been "eradicated" something. Is it cause i reached the 100th turn or did I do something wrong???

Yes, all are unlimited turns, except Alexander DLC.
Maybe you died to Regicide (where all family members die) which instantly kills you.
@@MelkorGG oh great then! Yh I think my generals died, the ones in North Africa died mid game and was left with two in Cordoba and the kingdom next to it. can you recrute generals because they always die lol.
I prefer stationary factions too, but horde factions are easy if you use them correctly. I usually separate inantry from cavalry, rush one of the roman empires with cav, crush some of their armies with cav archers, which are op, resettle quickly and expand.
Also, Sassanids have the best unit in the game, the calibanarii immortals. It's like the most armored unit of the game! XD

My first time playin the sarmations i got butthurt so then on my second time i turned to a horde turn 1 and went an took Constantinople from ere then took all of greece than the campaign was pretty chill after

As the Franks I somehow managed to get Gaul without any effort. The WRE attacked, I proposed a peace deal immediately, peace they give me one province, they accept. Repeat several times, worked each time

Bro how do you play the goths? U just start the hord in the first or second round and go for rome. From their u can conquer in every direction. I literally just beat the goth campaign in like 3-4 hours. Goths are mad underrated.
im sorry but mis cav is literally the #1 most powerful unit when played right, they can chew on your best units (especially when firing to their back or side), they can take your cheaper units out of the fight before the fight starts, they can wipe out your ground missile units, and there's nothing you can do to hurt or catch them other than other missile cavalry, i remember training an army of 50% fully upgraded mis cav units and conquering 3-5 settlments before i need to retrain
well it doesn't matter whether op or not, he just doesnt like to play with them.
I think going horde can be fun from an alt history perspective and a gameplay one. You’re not starting as a settled faction; you get to choose where your people will end up. If things start to look hairy, you can evacuate to another homeland, and keep doing that until you’re safe. You’re like Moses looking for the Promised Land, and I like that story you build from that.
The Roman Empire factions are just trying to mitigate disaster after disaster by comparison. It’s not as interesting to me.

Sarmatians are easy... They give you the golden opportunity of knocking out most of the major hordes at the beginning of the campaign... It's really easy to also since the hordes will attack your settlement and you just used settlement choke points. The easiest way to win all these battles is to general bodyguard spam and the AI won't be able to do a thing to you. They'll just constantly attack, but the 5 or 6 generals will just choke point battle the hell out of the AI. And bc u have so many generals, I'll essentially have unlimited morale.
I like the Sarmatians and Goths for the Challenge.

when I play Saxon I always conquer 3 territories down to the south next to me then I lose money and I stop even though I had trade agreements :-( I don't know what i do wrong
Sassanids should have had better infantry. Instead all we got was wide array of light skirmishers and one poor unit of spear Levy. Their only advantage of heavy cavalry is negated by equally good heavy cavalry and spear infantry of the ERE. Their only good infantry can only be trained in specific settlements.
You seems to play different game to me because Clabiaries and especially the Immortal would make a mince meat any ERE unit ypu have early game and later also
You can win the game easily with just Cav with Sassanid while other factions would have to do some works to get their heavy cav to do that.
@@huntermad5668 I once beat the game with armies composed nothing but a hordes of peasants in the center and flanks of Clibnarii and Cataphractii. I just don't like the fact how the Sassanids have a poor infantry roster.
@@grimgoreironhide9985 that's how they fought their wars in Iran and that's how they killed roman generals and took roman emperors as prisoners of war. from Crassus who was killed by only a full cav Parthian army. to valerian who was captured fighting the Sasanian king. that large highland called "iran" wouldn't allow having a big empire with infantry core army. highland open field and long marches without any ships. so having a good combination of light and heavy cav is the best choice. and matter of fact they did have some heavy and good infantry not as good as roman infantry obviously but good enough. CA just didn't create them in this game.

I played as the Ostrogoth, I knew the Huns were coming for my ass soon so I built my population up instantly,
I then moved out as a horde when they arrived and got around 3 or 4 army,
I held my stand at a bridge as they attacked,
I drove the Huns to extinction,
their 7 starting army now is around 2,
I decided not to chase them, ceasefire and took over the Lombardi Campus
do cheat create_unit work here?
Is that a modded Barbarian, because the starting cash amounts are x10 the default.

with western Rome you have nothing to do...With ERE you can defeat the Sassanids and hit the western Rome, since it is considered by the Eastern Roman Empire as it's vassal extension.Western Rome is boring, there is no adventure, I would like the Romano-British as a western playable faction or the Gallo-Romans of Glycerius, now that the 1st is not playable and the 2nd don't exist in RTW, western Rome is so fucking boring...
what do you mean you have nothing to do, survive and later take on ERE. ERE is so freaking easy, when completing WRE campaign at least you get a little satisfaction from the achievement.
Alemani has good starting position, challenging because cant be a horde.
Saxons are nice but their units are boring - the infantry is imbalanced and way too weak in BI.
Eastern Romans are very boring too - you fight against Sassanids only.
Huns are so much fun because its nice to just plunder and turn whole map to gray rebels before settling.
Also Sassanids are so much fun, because its fun to make Zoastranism as dominant religion.
I love western empire as well. I always put the Christian generals on the boat, make them a mobile cavalry army and let them sink later.
Two things I don’t like about the huns is you can’t build ports and archers
Why do you use Sassanid infantry anyway?
Their normal Super Heavy cav is perfectly capable of grinding almost anything in the game with their AP melee while having bow to soften targets before mowing them down. Normal horse archers or even elite archers has no chance against these guys in a range batttle with like 30 armor. You can just recuit and rebuild them almost anywhere after a while as they only need Stable lv2.
You don't need infantry because you could just focus on spamming spies in the home province after setting a foothold in the Levant and take all the ERE lands in Egypt and Anatolia with impunity with your Super heavy Cav Generals grow with new cities conquered.
eastern roman empire is really easy imo. best units and insane income.
Actually the sarmatian campaign is pretty easy. You just wipe out the vandals, goth and huns first and then you start expanding and conquer the entire map. And that's not hard given that all other factions are trash.

Horse Archers FTW
The western Roman Empire is very hard to game because he is instable with religious and he battles with différent hords. I'm prefer the Eastern Roman Empire more stable and easy game. In the barbarian faction I like the Frank and sassanide. Thé game it's good game for gestion and stratégie. Sorry for my english

I really dislike the fact that Sugdian Warriors are only available in like 4 settlements. The Levy Spears are ok, but they die horribly to the likes of Combatitenses. This makes the Sassanids faction worse then they actually were in history.
As Sarmatians/other horde factions, you could build ships and sail away towards better areas on the campaign map. As the Romano-British faction always suddenly show up when I go for Britain , it's better to conquer two of the three settlements on the mainland.
What about berbers????????????
All do respect my friend but you're a damn fool to say that the vandals are the worst faction not only do they have the advantage of being no friends of the Romans and can also abandon their cities and migrate but they're powerful horse archers are perfect for taking settlements that do not have epic or large stone walls maybe it's just me but the vandals the Franks and the Western Roman Empire are my three favorites not to mention if you amass enough money you can always buy other armies and have a more diverse selection of troops so the vandals are by no means Limited and their ability to easily take Italy the main reason I play as these three factions the most is because my ancestors came from both Rome and the Vandals as far as the Franks their men have unimaginable courage not to mention the Francisca aka the axe that they're heavy infantry can throw AR more accurate and do more damage than the Roman pilum
I can easily wipe out the Alemanni both as a Saxon or as a Frank
