Well an SPQR campaign is on the cards - fear not! And I will finish off the Avocado men... for the moment, I'm just keeping a video up each week whilst I recharge my batteries a bit.

I wish they added the senate as an unlockable faction. Game play could have revolved around keeping equal power in roman factions, and bidding for senate positions to maintain power. Your own contributions to expansion efforts being necessary to hold onto prestige. While not actually directly owning or managing any land, you could reap a percentage from all roman lands. Unless that faction is in revolt, kind of like a protectorate but more like 25%. This game play could have you balancing power between factions, deciding which province's you help conquer go to who. Assigning missions, or targets with rewards you have to put up. Greater rewards could make a faction dedicate more resources to completing said goal. Rewards could very between senate position, gold, units. Much like the Senate's original function. If one faction becomes alot more prominent than the other two it may revolt throwing Rome into a civil war. Other smaller conflicts between families may spark and force you to intervene. Meeting out punishment for the transgressors, like redistribution of land, loss of position, economic restitution. You can also sit it out and watch the two weaken each other, until a Victor is made clear. Ultimately you will have to fight the three families eventually, but how you built the roman empire will have a direct impact on how that happens. Families deciding to stay loyal, gang up on you, or remaining independent, being determined by how you've treated them, relative power scaling, personal ambition of the current faction head. The only way you can gain land is to take it from one of your 3 sub factions, after that particular family has openly revolted against rome. However, taking too much could easily inspire the others to turn on you. So you have to give most of it away to loyal families to ensure peace. While this may seem a disadvantage, this allows you to scale tall building a small number of highly defensive cities, with your access to high quality units. Your income is primarily sustained by tribute, meaning the overall success of your sub factions is in your best interests. You will welcome expansion, but be highly cautious about where your aid is directed, because as your power grows your sub factions are too. Eventually their overall power can eclipse yours, especially when your primary economic links are severed. You may play a Rome with access to alot of money, until you realize your kind of bank rolling an empire, and may spend periods of time operating on a deficit during periods of infighting.

Your brake took some time so I searched and looked and-finally was able to Mod the map to be historically accurate: I gave settlements to rightful owners, strengthened rebel settlements, improved city defenses where needed, etc... it took a week of work (since I suck with computers) but we finally have it. I could send it to you or put on some site to be **downloaded.So** now we have the right map. What is left is for you to make those banner changes we talked about, Barca family, unite Rome in one faction - and WE WILL HAVE BEST POSSIBLE RTW at our hands! Hooray!!!*

Just a quick question, TNH (Love your content btw!). I have unlocked all the intended playable factions ages ago now. I was wondering, when you first unlock all the factions by winning an Imperial campaign, do they unlock regardless of whether it's a short or long campaign? All that matters is that you beat your first campaign as any of the Roman factions?
Thank you very much! I think short campaigns will simply unlock the factions you defeated to win that campaign, whereas the imperial campaign victory will unlock the whole group of factions. I'm not 100% sure as it has been a while since I last had a clean version of the game. But that's what I think is the case!

How come when you modify descr.strat it doesn't spawn random greek named spqr generals around rome ?

Hello. I have a question regarding the SPQR. So I am playing on the remastered version of steam and it seems to be coded abit different. I noticed when playing as the senate you cannot build any temples. I tried going into the files and adding "romans_senate" into some temples that the other roman factions can build but that doesnt seem to work. Do you maybe know a way to solve this?
Edit: It does indeed work, it was just that I had a mod that obviously was overwriting the file
did you have the game crash at all for the remastered? im trying to do this and the game crashes after the intro.
How do you remove the normal Roman factions
Just tested, this still works in Total Rome Remastered for SQPR but not rebels, also the path is different to the descr_strat file PATH :\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War ROME REMASTERED\Contents\Resources\Data\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

That normally suggests a tiny text error. Probably a missing or extra space. It's usually something pretty simple with that crash.
Hey Gents, I have been trying to unlcok all type of gladiator for one Roman faction but i can't seem to do it. They appear in the Arena text but they do not appear in the recruitement tab. Is it impossible?
You've done half the work already then it seems! The file you need is export_descr_unit, which is inside the data folder. There it lists each unit. all you need to do is add your desired faction to the ownership list.

I followed what you did and it worked but the problem is when I click on the factions that I added it crashed how do I fix this.
Hard to say exactly without seeing the file. I imagine its a minor bit of formatting in the file.

It‘s possible to get rid of the Senate Tab... you need to change in all files text & scripts the system internal name „Romans_senate“ to something other, like „romans_new“ or any other name. As I already mentioned you need to change this name everywhere you may find it in the data folder. Good luck in trying!

Don’t forget to delete the line „senate superfaction“ above each roman faction in descr_strat.txt file... with this you will lift the hardcoded Alliance between the Roman factions!
And you can start the civil war right away from the campaign start... 👌🏻

Which part is causing the issue? Finding the files or are the edits not working? This definitely worked on the CD version for me 15 years back so it should work still.
Is there a way to unlock SPQR in RTW Remastered? Seems to crash after I select SPQR Campaign.

Is there a way to make every roman faction have access to all roman temples, for example can I get temple of Mars playing as Julii, Jupiter as Brutii and so on?
Yes! You do it just like it was done here by adding 'romans_senate' to your temple of choice, except you would just need to add 'roman' and that way it would allow all 4 Roman factions access to that temple. Enjoy!

One more question - is there a way to modify files to make all roman factions have access for First Legionary Cohort (Eagle) in their captal, or that is just enabled for SPQR and city of Rome?
@@ichotw5766 the eagle cohorts requires the "hidden resource" rome, like spartans requires the hidden resource "sparta".
So you could remove this requirement or create new hidden resources for each capital.
Why does SPQR doesnt have legionary cohorts or preatorian and urban cohorts? Is there way to let spqr produce legions mentioned above?
Once the Marian reforms take place, SPQR can get all the same legionnaires as the other Roman Factions.

When saving my PC says I do not have permission to open the file
Either you need to change your administrator rights. Or. Copy the file to your desktop, edit it there and then save it back into the game folder. You may need to delete the file in the game folders first so you save a new version in rather than simply overwrite the orginal. Hope that makes sense and helps.

Absolutely! You just need to head into the steamapps folder (wherever that is on your computer)

This sounds like you need administrator privileges on your computer rather than the issue being in the game. Though it is hard to say without seeing the error message.
