I first want to comment on this gentleman's video. I think the video is amazing but as a Turo host myself who has nine cars on the platform. I actually started making money within 3 days of me putting my first vehicle on there. My first car was a 2011 Prius. That I bought and paid cash for. I had been watching videos of someone else who has some Turo cars and decided to give it a shot. I saved up in 6 months $8,500 and I bought the car from a private person. Just from the rentals alone I made half my money back in a month and a half. So with that being said what you should remember is if you start to use turo all of your maintenance all of your car depreciation all of your mileage is deductible. No one on turos deDucts the gas because it's more lucrative to keep track of your miles because when every customer comes back and return the car you have to take a picture of the car that's when you login the mileage and at the end of the year you get 53 to $0.55 a mile so that makes up for the car depreciation. Now if I am being transparent I pay about 900.00 in insurance per month for the cars. This is not commercial insurance just regular insurance. The accidents are not charged to your personal policy Turo covers all damage under their 750,000 coverage. They have 3 plans and I choose the 250.00 deductible. I get to keep 75 percent of my earnings. This is a extra business for me and I also work a fulltime job. I park the 9 cars in a parking lot that I pay 300.00 for a month. When they pick up the car I meet them go over no smoking rules and take a picture of their dl make sure it is not expired and that is it. I ask them if they have any questions. I also show them the insurance for turo in the glove box so they will know not to give my car insurance in case of a accident. I say have a nice day.
Very informative and valuable for potential hosts, could you please shed light on what happens on charged tolls, violations of community cameras, breaking traffic lights, do they come on customer’s driver’s license / by the time customer returns the car and violations get processed with a delay due to any lag or something, wondering to know such exceptions. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your video I found it filled with a lot of informative information pros & cons, I’m basically in the beginning stage of trying to research kearn, and absorb as much as I can about the Turo platform & policies as I can to see if it is a good fit for me and my lifestyle .I’m basically using UA-cam as a jumping off point picking as many Turo topics on video that I can find to watch to try and learn from ppl who have already been in the space for awhile. In hopes of picking up tips from their successes as well as their failures so hopefully I can avoid making the same mistakes. But someone told me that I can’t stay on the fence forever and that experience would be my best teacher. Anyway thanks again. Peace!
You Cannot have any sentimental value towards the car! See it as an investment it will make you money and in the event of an accident they will pay you every single day your car is out of service! You literally have nothing to loose is not like you're signing your car away to Turo. ALSO you dont just book your car to anyone as soon as you get a booking request it is your JOB to screen the driver as much as you can "how long have they been in the app/how many reviews/stars have they received from hostess before" There is AGE restrictions you can set You can add a GPS that will track SPEED/TRIP. Come on guys dont get discouraged try it out! You will never know until you make the jump.
Yes you can definitely do all of these things to mitigate the risk you’re absolutely right. I agree with you on a lot of this, but people just need to make sure that they understand all the little costs before they actually get into it. I also think it depends on the individual in their situation and what car they are putting on Turo. Thanks for sharing all your great point :-)
I think you’re missing a huge point here. Newer cars, and especially interesting cars, you can charge a hell of a lot more for on the platform. I’m currently looking into buying a Camaro because there are none in my region, and I’d of a need to rent it out two or three days and months to make the car payment. This is because the car will demand more money per day. You have to ask yourself why would someone want to rent a 10 year old car? They want to run something fun, new, or sportier than they currently have. Or maybe even more practical.
Hey Sean great points. I would say my perspective is from one that isn’t looking at this as a business opportunity where they need to invest upfront capital to buy one of those cars like the Camaro you mentioned, but instead as a way to build a side income with an existing car in their household. now if you’re looking at this as a business opportunity, I agree with what you’re doing and I think there are niche opportunities like that. Overall these niche opportunities are a small portion of the actual hosts on Turo (that make meaningful income to support themselves).
Sean - when you buy a newer car, especially a Camaro, you must not be emotionally attached to the car and have to sleep at nights knowing it will be scratched up, dented, perhaps tire blown and rims dented. You will definitely have an advantage over those doing Turo as a business, as you're just needing to cover some your car payment, while others are actually trying to make a profit, so you can price it accordingly.
Many don't care about the car, they need transportation and are on a budget. They want something cheap, vacationing/traveling is expensive and ppl will want to save anyway they can.
You said it best. Turo cares about securing the booking so they get paid . After that you will get the shorter end of the stick. i know this from dealing with support on two issues. Get a cheap car that you dont care about, dont use your car - not worth it. Takes one bad guest to ruin it all
@@carswithsonduren i can tell you that they are currently refusing to pay me the $250 smoking violation because I don't have interior pictures in the pretrip details. How does a picture determine a smoking violation. The car cant be rented in this condition and I have a screenshot telling the renter he will be charged for smoking in my car. Turo is a mess!
So unfortunate to hear and this is why it's a pain in the ass being a host everything has shifted so significantly to protecting the riders with little protection for the host or putting out their valuable cars on their marketplace.
Idk where youre at, but i looked up the qualifications for a car on turo and it shows no more than 130000 miles in the u.s. Thats straight from the Turo website.
Maybe this depends on your area, but I have never found a free inspection. I would be cautious about this free inspection. Their time is money. I usually pay $30.00
This was great, exactly the experience I was looking for as a host in Canada. I was under the impression that we could not put cars with greater than 150,000miles on Turo. I have a 2009 GS350 with over 340,000km, but she still runs strong and like you said it's bottomed out at the depreciation curve. I'm wondering if I can list it. I've got an M4 that I wouldn't even think of Turo'ing.
Honestly that Lexus if you listed it would probably be the perfect type of car for Turo. Besides all of the main things you should be looking out for if you want to try with the Lexus that’s the car to do it. Definitely don’t even think about the M4 😂
I don’t think you can list a car with more 200k km on Turo. I checked with different cars but seems to be that cars over 12 years old or 200k km millage are not eligible for listing on Turo.
Turo put a 200K km cap but…see below (which is nothing for Teslas). Too many on there now though to make $? “Once listed, vehicles that reach or exceed 200,000 km may remain listed if they’re in excellent condition and continue to meet all legal, safety, and mechanical standards”
I was just about list a car and the policy is 130000 km and 10 years old my car was 134000 I did research they say if anything happens and you go make a claim if turo finds out they will void the claim due to there standard.
Hey, thank you for posting a video based upon Ontario Canada. I've been looking for answers regarding Turo in Ontario Canada not much information out there. I was hoping you would cover issues in the video such as 407 toll bills, red light camera automatic fines mailed to your house, damage issues like a cigarette burn hole in the leather seats and how Turo Canada handles these host issues. Sometimes the parking fines or camera fines don't get mailed out for four and five weeks after the fact how can you possibly get money from the customer this long after?
@@carswithsonduren Hello! I’m thinking about testing Turo with a rental car for a couple of weeks and see how it works out. If all goes well then I was looking at financing a car to put in the platform. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
@@carswithsonduren For right now it’ll be a side hustle but I wanna know how many vehicles do I need to have to go full time? I was thinking about 3-5 cars. Cause I definitely want to do it full time.

Over the years I was wondering what host’s deal with when it comes to Toro. I thought about using Toro since my car is a lot older, mileage is getting up there(for driving, not hosting). For a day trip out of the city I thought that would be good. I personally, for how funky I am when it comes to my own car, I’d never be able to rent it out to a stranger. I deep cleaned the inside of my car that was 12 years old at the time and the nastiest thing I found, like people are gross. Kind of made me wonder about National Rental car companies. Could you or do you have a video of what host’s have to deal with when it comes to vehicles, like, what’s their requirements? I like talking and learning everything car and this one of those. I did search on Turo and I found there was a lot of Tesla’s. You’d think I could find a base Civic, nooooooo! I think it’s a neat kind of service.
I had some cars on Turo. One driver drove into high water and destroyed the car. Turo gave me the run-around for six months before paying my claim. That's six months of no revenue but my expenses continued. Another driver stole my car. Again, six months of Turo stalling me.
I’m iffy on it. The smoking is irritating even when you charge them they seem like they don’t care. The constant cleaning is a bit much when you work full time. Honestly financing you’re only earning about 2-300 a month after expenses with that logic you would need to have about 3 vehicles to make it make sense but who wants to leverage their credit in that manner? Even if you purchase through business there is still risk
how did you rent a car with more than 200,000 km's? when i went to host, they required newer than 12 years and less than 200,000 km's, was this recently implemented and do they grandfather older hosts with older cars?
I ended up hosting a corolla and i had a bunch of hits but i couldn’t justify the minimum of 300km per day on my car at 20-22 bucks a day after everything. Not worth it 😫
I wouldn’t dare Turo my 2008 IS250 or my 2018 Corolla I use for Uber. I just don’t trust anyone driving my cars. They might crash it! I’m afraid my beautiful IS will be returned with a massive dent or side swipe.
Yes, Many people tend to find people in more dense areas to rent their car for them at a rate, I've heard of some people sending their cars to rent in Las Vegas to bigger hosts at a cost.
So you pick up a car from a Turo host. You are 4 hours into a ten hour drive, and the check engine light comes on, the engine dies and won't restart. Now what? I can rent one way with Enterprise, and drop it off in the morning the next day in a different state. Visit my friend for a week. Pick up a return trip rental from Enterprise when I am driving back home. Same deal, one way rental, drop off in another state. Total rental days would be two. With Turo, I am paying every day for the full week.
Hi! Great video well laid out. Can you expand more on the insurance point? Why would insurance be higher when Turo offers protection? Are you saying my insurance company will charge me higher if I put it in Turo use? Thanks!
All of that is would ifs i’ve never had a problem with turo i get paid on time its simple to keep the car clean most ppl actually clean the car before giving it back
If states already require inspection why would u need to get another one? I live in Florida so I would be fine with getting one but, idk about other states
if i dont care about the vehicle personally and don't plan on keeping it for two years plus. and want to quit my job and just want to rent it out in the mean time?
You are failing to mention the biggest risk insurance liability. Turo is known to dodge out of insurance claims no big deal if it’s a fender bender maybe $10,000 lose you can recover from that. Now what happens if they wiggle out of an insurance claim where there is a loss of life now you are talking about losing all your assets including your house. I was considering this opportunity and I’m honestly not worried about smoking, small damage, car being stolen more worried about a massive accident that I as the renter would be on the hook for.
I don’t need a car and will try with a brand new Tesla model 3 rwd, low battery depreciation, very low maintenance needed, easy to clean.. I can ask higher price for the car in a very progressive neighborhood and choose who rent carefully. If it doesn’t pan out I can sell the car for profits since the price went up 12k since my reservation as I expected but even better. And then I have a quick ass car for planned trips out of town.
@@donovanpatron Yeah it’s going pretty well! No accidents or damages, made about 7k last year, the car was in high demand around July and August. I had a xpel ppf installed on the car to protect the paint but also make it no fuss to clean 🧼 and less scary to borrow haha, so Turo paid for that and more The value of the car dropped a lot now but is still more then what am financing. Amazing car to use when I want to got out of the city and all.
@@SulixD yeah not bad this summer in the end, doing 500$cad this week and 1600 soon in August for a 3 week rental. Xpel ppf is a brand of paint protection film, pricy to do but needed I think, it helps making the cleaning process easy too. You install it as soon as possible when you get the car. Since I believe in the longevity of the car I think mileage is really fine, no damage by renter so far other than a small rash on one mags which I settle amicably.
No damage just had someone obviously smoked a bit of weed inside that I could smell and they left there lighter even though they shouldn't have done that 🙄.

Completely agree it was a neat experiment but as a car enthusiast I was uneasy the entire time it was out of my care! But that's not to say somebody that doesn't mind this could make a decent buck or two given their situation. You're right and the same way they treat rental cars, you have to assume it's getting beat up and abused. I will say turo does have protection against some of this but the compensation is minimal and not worth the headache of going through it all.

I would like to know about this as well. Please @ me with any answers! Thanks
You can do a live chat with Turo agent…they are good to reply
Yes, Many people tend to find people in more dense areas to rent their car for them at a rate, I've heard of some people sending their cars to rent in Las Vegas to bigger hosts at a cost.
great video. The background music is slightly loud. Hard to concentrate
Thanks for the feedback I will improve it for next time :)
Thanks!
If you sold the car or didn't have it, you wouldn't have e to pay $100+ a month to your insurance provider
How did you manage to list 2009 car with 300K on it? The requirement is 12 year or newer with less then 200K
No verification
@@carswithsonduren I tried to list 2008 Mercedes with 200k on it. They asked for the vin and said that the car is too old and not acceptable...
Maybe they recently updated it? Not sure what to say.
Where do you go to get the annual safety checks? And how much do they usually cost?
I had them done at an independent mechanic it would cost me $100 Ashley! Where are you located? It really depends on location and shops around you.
Have you Turo'd your car? What was your experience?
Do you think it's a good idea to Turo my 2015 Mercedes C300?
Give it a shot, but that is a newish Mercedes ;)
All of that is would ifs i’ve never had a problem with turo i get paid on time its simple to keep the car clean most ppl actually clean the car before giving it back
Yeah I just want to test the waters with my new 22 Honda HRV but how does it affect the warranty on the car by renting it out??
Nope won’t effect any warranty!
If states already require inspection why would u need to get another one? I live in Florida so I would be fine with getting one but, idk about other states
if i dont care about the vehicle personally and don't plan on keeping it for two years plus. and want to quit my job and just want to rent it out in the mean time?
Yeap in that case that works
Do you use personal insurance or get rental insurance? I’m in BC
Insurance is offered with Turo
The point of turu in the “U.S” is understanding how the money comes and tax benefits. Don’t look at it like a hourly job
You're talking about setting it up through a corporation?
Turo
Are there any safeguards in place for people smoking in your car or do you have to take a loss?
Yes but minor. If someone turns your car to a hot box, good luck 🥲
@@carswithsonduren Can you add fees (like car rental companies do) if this happens?
Yes but it’s only $125 which is nothing IMHO.
Depending on your state, you can buy an ozone machine for a couple hundred bucks. It kills all bad smells and bacteria in the car.
how did you manage to rent out your 300k km lexus on turo while they only accept less than 200k km?
I didn’t report the KM
@@carswithsonduren ok and thank you for your video.
I highly doubt that. People have fleet of cars on there.
I highly doubt the turo insurance would not cover that.
I do not believe that the annual safety inspections are a big deal most States require an annual inspection of some sort anyway
So did you do it? How did it go?
Yeah update please
@@donovanpatron Yeah it’s going pretty well! No accidents or damages, made about 7k last year, the car was in high demand around July and August. I had a xpel ppf installed on the car to protect the paint but also make it no fuss to clean 🧼 and less scary to borrow haha, so Turo paid for that and more The value of the car dropped a lot now but is still more then what am financing. Amazing car to use when I want to got out of the city and all.
@@champoux3000 Still going strong ? I am thinking about doing the same with a new awd long range model 3. What is xpel ppf ?
@@SulixD yeah not bad this summer in the end, doing 500$cad this week and 1600 soon in August for a 3 week rental. Xpel ppf is a brand of paint protection film, pricy to do but needed I think, it helps making the cleaning process easy too. You install it as soon as possible when you get the car. Since I believe in the longevity of the car I think mileage is really fine, no damage by renter so far other than a small rash on one mags which I settle amicably.
No mileage limit?
I was able to do it without the limit.
Any damage on the car after the rentals?
No damage just had someone obviously smoked a bit of weed inside that I could smell and they left there lighter even though they shouldn't have done that 🙄.
@@carswithsonduren Thats good you have leather seats 😁
I know right. I was like oh man she was smoking some serious stuff when I got in the car. Did a full deep clean.
@@carswithsonduren Well if you got the muchies after the deep clean we know why. I finally got delivery of my C8 this week and would like to get your thoughts on it. Maybe a review.
Wow congratulations! Pictures? Send me on IG?!
No? Bad idea... Thanks man
People will drive the living fuck out of your car, treat it like garbage and not care about curbing your wheels and fucking your interior. If you care about your car, don't send it out of your care.
I will say turo does have protection against some of this but the compensation is minimal and not worth the headache of going through it all.
so i got approved for a corvette 2015 7k miles and wanna do turo on it im in florida tampa bay area i drive a 2021 camry for daily i could rent both of them as well thoughts
Honestly I wouldn't do it for your Corvette if you really love the car. Maybe it's just me but as a car guy mentally it drives me insane and for a car I love to be out there with somebody it's not worth it. You could rent the Camry though ;)
Do it brother try it out!
Look if they crash it turo will pay you the rent fee each day until it gets fixed,
Second you CANNOT have a sentimental value towards the car its an asset that will generate you money. Like I said give it a shot for a month. Its better to say thay you tried and failed ! Than No trying at all.
You will always wonder "what if"
Pull the trigger dude
@@Bf3xx dude i done three trips already in a week
@@Bf3xx ending up getting a scatpack dodge charger and my camry montly payment covered already with two trips and one on the scatpack
@@bcateriosis4114 THERE YOU GO !
Happy to hear that I bet you the Camry will rent out alot more than the charger !
GoodLuck
Toyota Camry
Honda Oddysey
Grand Caravan
Thats my money makers :-) shhhhh
Thanks for the good video. I’m thinking about putting up my 2018 Lexus LS500 on Turo. Any feedback would be helpful while I continue to do my research before I pull the trigger on this endeavor.
Set an appointment minimum time for rental (3 days) for example so it’s much less of a hassle to manage.
@@carswithsonduren “set an appt time”… Good idea! I work 15 hrs a day at my regular job.. My weekends are free tho to meet for pick ups! Is there a way to do it without having to meet the customers? As this would avail me to more opportunities even during the week…
How about getting a personal insurance? After turo insurance
No personal insurance required on top of it as Turo covers this!
See I heard if turo denied your claim and your insurance company finds out your premium go up but if you buy insurance for specificly renting out on turo you will have a layer of coverage it's more suitable if you have 2 cars one for your daily usage and other for this side hustle to potential full-time gig or just take risk use personal car .
Hola.
the deppreciation does not matter at all if the turo profits pay for the whole price of the car.
If the turo profits only pay for the car you break even.
Ya but not everyone wants to book a higher miles car and older car like that…. Lots of ppl these days want a newer low mileage vehicle
True, but there is a market that is looking for the opposite of that.
Great information 👍
Thanks Carsen welcome to the channel!
!!!!!!!!!! F A R T !!!!!!!!!!

I occasionally need a pickup truck but don't want the cost of ownership.
I wonder if Turo offers pickup trucks
I guess that was a dumb comment. lol
Another app where the consumer wins and the host loses. Glad I sold my vehicle and got out of the game.
good advice. annoying background music.
Thanks for the feedback I’ll make sure I reduce it for the next videos!
This app makes it easy for people to steal cars 😂 I just spoke to a cop that said a 2020 corvette was rented and stolen under a fake ID good luck getting your cars back with a craps app like this one.
Just put like 3 gps’s on the car and you’re chilling
Probably great content but the music is killing me.
Noted for next time :-)
Please get rid of the music
Not I pal
This music is giving me a stroke
good video but very bad quality
The image quality? It should be in 4K?
You lost me at 30%
A car is not an asset.
I agree except during COVID
If it produces revenue it is an asset by accounting standards
Turo = Pimping your ride. 😆😆😆
Theirs no way ya making bank off this shit
