fantastic series covering the SP1. Really enjoyed watching and learning. i have an SP1 in similar condition and your videos are an excellent resource - best i've seen on youtube, so thanks very much Dave
A great job & result on the classic SP-1 Dave! A fantastic series covering suspension, adjustments, cleaning, mechanical work & a bit of electrical wizardry. Well presented & explained. Cheers master mechanic 👌
Dave, I have been riding for over 40 years and this is the best explanation of suspension set up I have seen i’m about to attempt to put Ohlins kitted 08 zx10r forks on my 25 year old zx7r along with an Ohlins shock and the one thing I have worried about is how to set them up but now I have a tutorial I can come back to when I come across a problem. Many thanks Jon.
Thank you for a great video. I'm feeling confident enough now to try and adjust my suspension on my Speed Triple 1200 RR as soon as the snow disappears here in Sweden . Keep up the good work Dave!
Have just Subscribed but been watching your vids for a while now. I have a few GEN 1 zx10r and really enjoyed them along with your sense of dry humour great work on the SP and looking forward to seeing what else you have coming along. Love it
I used a taxi during the day, kept having people pulling out on me when I slowed down. Used it one night and noticed the dash lights came on when I used the brakes. Turns out the incorrect type of bike had been fitted in brake light, and sent power to lights, so people thought I was flashing them to pull out. Another great series fixing incompetent previous owners bodges!🙄
Happy Days!! Another great episode thank you Dave looking forward to you getting it out on the roads! As for the exhaust maybe a set of arrow cans 🤔 lol. Hope all is well and I’m sure you’re getting ready for BSB so good luck in that. Cheers from sunny California!
Great series. Bike is beautiful. Only issue and its new is that there were ads every 5 mins or so. Really annoying and strange for such a niche market vid. Wierd comment I know. Just.wonder how that works. Always think of the SP, RC 30, 45 and even the baby NC 30 as HRC masterpieces. Favourite bike is always LC 350.
Great info! The only correction could be the measurement of forks seals sticktion. The correct way would be then assistant push the bike on plastic or handlebars and slowly bring it back. Then do the measurement. The same is for the back. Now you got only 1mm of difference but I am surre it is becauce the bike freely bounce back. If you push it down and slowly realese it it will be 3-5mm difference and it would be still very good result for old bike with OEM forks
When I got my SP2 it came with Aftermarket Yoshimura exhaust. To say they were loud was an understatement if I road a little close to parked cars I could set off their alarms just from the continual rumble without even have to rev the bike 😳 I replaced it with a M4 high mount exhaust with Carbon fibre cans that produced a very nice rumble. I even has several people who didn't ride motorcycle how much the loved the sound from my bike 😊 but I think they were comparing my RC51 to the local Harley riders who all ran straight open pipes 🤣
Thanks for the SP 1 series, Had one twenty years ago, I bought a fairly good one last week and it will be delivered this weekend. Thanks to your vids, I know what to look for to get it in mint condition again :-) I will keep it also original except for some oval speedpro cobra C5's ;-) Let's see if I will also have to change the rear spring? Hope the season will be on soon, looking forward to see your test drive, good luck and lots of fun with your "old lady"
I did the same thing on my SV 1000 pain in the bum but no blow out ,far nicer bike,, apart from the clutch rattle,, they are cursed with,, great series,,my Yoshi end cans 😁😁😁☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️get em bought from northern Ireland
Hello, for your rear wiring, i used honda Hornet 2004 wirings. There are same connections for bubble rear light between both model. Ref Honda 33705MCZ003. I found mine on ebay. I haved similar issue like you, but not exactelly same. On my Sp1, when i braked with front brake, my front headlight light up. With hornet wiring, problem it's fixing. And thanks for all your videos, i will replace seal of front forks. Regards, Ben from France.
Excellent! Well, you proved me wrong, I anticipated that you would need to re loosen the rear header to get the second part and then lower section of the exhaust all to line up whilst being ultra delicate with your new graphite seals. A task I have performed with little aplomb and many tears, however you had it beautifully lined up “no problem”. Much appreciated your run through suspension setup.👍👌👏
Ahhh! And the final light bulb moment. I have now got this suspension thing straight in my head. Thanks for posting this series, been very interesting and informative. I will be having another go at getting my suspension set up better for my weight in the not too distant future. However, up in these Northerly parts winter tends to last a wee bit longer. So few weeks yet.🙄 Got my tickets for Knockhill BSB and hope to get to say hello.
Thank you for creating these videos. I am in the process of doing exactly the same refresh on my 4,000 mile, 2006 SP2, so these instructional videos are gold! One question I have is can anyone tell me what paddock stands are used in the videos? I can find cheap, but I can’t find well-made! Thanks again.
Great series Dave, thoroughly enjoyed watching and also learning more about the black art of suspension set up’s! . . PS, I hope you managed to sort out the pixelating on the speedometer over a certain speed 😊
Dave, was that you shown in episode 6 of the new season of TT Between the Hedges??? They are talking about privateers, and they show a rider in Obsession Engineering leathers. Couldn’t remember if your buddy had the same leathers while you were at IOMTT. Either way, well done sir!
I was pretty sure it was you. Just couldn’t tell from the shot - close up with helmet on. I was excited to see you featured. The new season is well done, but I’d like anything TT, so they had me at the trailer :)
Absolutely loved this series as I am restoring a 2001 SP1 and you have helped me with some jobs on mine. Cheers Dave and hopefully I can get my suspension set correctly, failing that can I nip it over to you ?
To hell with original on the exhausts. They are only like that because Honda are forced to with noise regs. I believe it was always meant to be louder and leaner so you'd definitely be doing the bike a favour.
hello and greetings from America Dave, Question, do you have to switch the lights on on your RC51? In the US our bikes lights come on either by key on or after starting the engine automatically. We do not have the option to switch lights on/off on stock production bikes. Thanks and really enjoy your videos.
You must be pleased with your maths results. Bike will probably now prove the adage 'Spend on your suspension' lt looks very nice and l'm not a H**** fanboy.
Are you Available For Customer or Just Fan of The Channel Work? I have an 05 Zx10r that I’d like to get the Forks Rebuilt as well as the Rear Shock. All stock oem. Has 23k on Bike. There’s No Tool Marks on the Forks. But the Left leg has 23 Clicks & Right leg has The Original 14 Clicks idk How or why this is. Dave Moss Said it’s A Very Very Rare thing to happen from the Factory. But he said he’s seen it before. If your interested I’ll send you an email.
Why is it Dave that twin exhaust systems, be it an SP or stupidly called a RC51 in the USA or an L Twin Ducati take 8 hands to install while inline 4s take 1 hand.. When installing my Termignoni 54mm full on my Duc, advice given to me is leave everything loosey goosey . from the header manifolds, midpipes, canister .. which would have worked great if i hand 8 hands
Dave, you consistently do work to a standard a lot of your viewers aspire to, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
fantastic series covering the SP1. Really enjoyed watching and learning. i have an SP1 in similar condition and your videos are an excellent resource - best i've seen on youtube, so thanks very much Dave
Nice bike! Thanks for watching

Thanks Steve
Bloody love your videos always makes me smile and i normally learn something ! Cheers Dave.
Defo some nice loud pipes and power commander you only live once 😉
I watch all of your videos. Great job on all of them.
Cheers
Thanks for watching 😁
Always enjoy a bit of suspension action 👍🏻

If that's the one with the cafe racer fairing (pretty thing), I'd suggest a softer rear spring, unless you're especially heavy!!
Great content Dave....I got a set of Akrapovic slip-ons for my Sp1, looked the business and saved a lot of weight.
Informative and entertaining.. Enjoyed every minute of the series..
He has a knack when it comes to these video tutorials.... always tune in and watch ..learn A LOT !
Really enjoyed the series. BTW - don't forget the front mudguard!
Fantastic series of vids Dave, touched on loads of helpful topics. Can't wait to see her on the maiden voyage since getting the work done.
Have just Subscribed but been watching your vids for a while now. I have a few GEN 1 zx10r and really enjoyed them along with your sense of dry humour great work on the SP and looking forward to seeing what else you have coming along. Love it
Good to have you along for the ride
Great stuff Dave, keep up the good work!

Top job Wavey, roll on dry roads for a spin out together.

Whenever you cant explain an electrical problem, blame it on back EMF. Thats usually the answer 😂
Wasn't that a band in the 90's?
Great job and class for understanding suspension setting
Get some big shiny Yoshis on. They look basically factory on the red bike and the crisp rip out of them is sublime.
What a difference a Dave makes , good to see you on top form! Does Franco double his weight in his riding gear?😉
Looking good Dave…..nice work….👍🇮🇲👌

See you at knockhill. Hopefully it'll be warmer by then!
@@obsession_engineering It's Knockhill, could go either way!
🥶🥵
Any susp setup video from before? Big difference I imagine w. that funky preload. You share amazing information.. always!
I did some basic fork measurements, but nothing too accurate
Great content 👍😎

These are Harris Performance stands, they're excellent. Harris are closing soon though, so get your order in fast
@@obsession_engineering Thank you! Order placed!
Cheers Dave great series as expected, informative with humour.
Need to get that front mud guard on first, hope the advice on the 929 was right

Yep, we can look at that for you, drop me a message via the website
😆You love pumping Dave.
O'Kane Motors in Armoy have a beautiful Joey edition signed and the Joey Honda Britain Fire blade
I've just sold a pair of MINT period correct oval microns to a pad in Spain. They have been perfect if it was 2 weeks a go. 🙈
Missing ground to tail lights ,back feel power to gauge .
To hell with original on the exhausts. They are only like that because Honda are forced to with noise regs. I believe it was always meant to be louder and leaner so you'd definitely be doing the bike a favour.
Get on the Akrapovuc Dave! My mate has got a full titanium raxe system on his sounds amazing! 🔥🔥🔥
If you can find one, let me know 😁
@@obsession_engineering Yeah he did get them when he got his SP1 probably 22 years ago! 🤣🤣
I had the same issue with the exhaust gaskets being to long.
I trimmed mine down.
I hope they're sealed as I've not fired her up yet
Fingers crossed!

Now lights are always on, but back in 2000 we could switch them off
@@obsession_engineering thanks
Yoshimura power commander map would be acceptable period mods.
12v for the brake circuit backfeeding the lighting circuit
Just what was going to say beat me to it lol 😂
That swinging arm mark would bug me....
Mega mate
You must be pleased with your maths results.

Electrical issue down to the Ohm fairies
🧿
so whats the plan for this bike? u gunna keep it or is it going to be a resale?
Keeping it... For now at least
U should sell it, and get something charismatic such as a italian v4😊 eventho mine has some electrical (typical) problems atm.
Is the sp2 really any better than an sp1?
I would love a vtr but the sp2 is just a bit out of reach 😂
Lots of detail changes, but a similar riding experience.

Dave gravity doesn't exist.
Its the curvature of space-time
Its an illusion 😅😅😅😅
well , usefull it could be ...if yamaha smallest (125cc) have adjustable "legs" ↖️
Better then Eastenders any day 😊

It's just to be as awkward as possible, expected from ducati, honda were just trying to share the joke
Looking good Dave…..nice work….👍🇮🇲👌
