As a new owner of a SP2 I really enjoyed watching the restoration of Henry’s SP1. Great presentation Dave. I’m almost confident enough to tackle restoring the rear shock on mine which has a oil weep.
Henry if your reading the comments bike is absolutely fab mate good luck with it but if there is one thing I’d do with that now is get a clear screen it will look so so much better . I had a tinted screen for years but once I put clear on it made a massive difference
Have owned my Honda sp1 for over 8 years but when I bought it, it had an aftermarket undertray fitted. I said to myself one day I will start searching for one and restore her back to original but I can't find one for love nor money it's the last piece in the puzzle...
@@AT2Productions I have, and I have spoken with him too. But this show and tell was much easier to see and understand. Especially as the bike performs with the bounces etc. Thanks for the info though much appreciated mate.
Beautifully done! So glad you shared the two-friend method suspension adjustment! Loved the zero count of the first click of adjustment. Now if I only had a friend to help with my Ducati 748.
Damn lockdown! What an absolute delight to witness your craftsmanship, skills & humour in restoring this awesome machine! Well done Dave & now, I think it’s time to give a new lease of life to the other classic, the Neval !👌🤟🚀
Nice bike ! Congratulations for that great huge work after seeing the sad condition it was ! Very interesting. I'm lucky to have the same since 2004 fully original... Take care of the sun effect on the speedometer with non brand Honda windshield.
Love this series and absolutely binge watched it. BUT for some hopefully constructive criticism i wish you would show more of the actual work done on the bike. It comes down to a lot of "now I will change this and that or do this and that" and then you'll just see the result. For me personally it would make such bike builts 1000 percent more enjoyable to watch if you could film the actual work. Apart from that, keep it up, love it.
I have had similar feedback already and will try to include a bit more of the 'work' on camera, hopefully without making it too long and boring. It's a balancing act, lol
Hy really nice work.i just discovered you . I would trust you with my bike and I don't trust nobody...I do everything by myself..one note rebound in the front a little bit to lose ..even for street use. My 2 cents
Great series on the RC, Dave. Looking forward to more of the same! You do very nice work, Dave. I definitely learned a few things, especially on the suspension components. Your detailed explanations are greatly appreciated. I also own a 2001 SP-1. In the States they are referred to as RVTs, not VTRs.. The color schemes are also different. I completed a refresh on mine about two years ago. There is not one aftermarket part on the machine. Here's a link to an image should you have any interest. www.rc51forums.com/media/right.9799/full Ride safe my friend. Cheers.
Great series Dave. I know the owner spent a nice few quid but worth it financially on an appreciating classic. Was the loud exhaust just an advisory? Top job
Does anyone else think the front rebound setting is too little? To my mind it shouldn't bounce back beyond its resting position and then settle, but should come back to it in one movement, not two
I'd be of the same opinion myself Ben. Especially for the first set-up and the fact that the oil (and everything else) is stone cold. And where was the static sag reading?
@@pedrosixfour I guess because rider sag is more relevant than static in ensuring your spring rate is correct. I've had numerous bikes over the years where static was correct but then rider sag was way too much.
To me the laden sag is always far more important than static, I don't often ride without me on the bike! As for the rebound, it's a very good observation, on track I'd definitely have more control but on our less than smooth roads the lesser low speed damping will help over the bumps and it still has enough control to keep it from getting bouncy. Hopefully I'll get the chance to demonstrate the difference on the test ride vid. Appreciate you all getting involved in the discussion :)
@@obsession_engineering Hi Dave, I have been watching this series and enjoyed this segment a lot. I have also been watching Dave Moss tuning and can understand why some may feel that front rebound looks a little loose making the front end look bouncy. Having tried both methods, i.e setting according to dave moss- compress, top and settle immediately vs what you have shown (slight bounce and then settle), I feel that for road riding - the front has to rebound faster otherwise the bike will just dive and fall into a turn at low speeds (below 50kmh) Just a quick question, do the front and rear compression/rebound speeds have to match each other? From your video, the front is compressing and rebounding faster than the rear.

Cracking bike and workmanship. Though I can't believe the owner wanted to keep those horrid short levers!
I love your series! This makes me even more eager to pick up my "new to me" SP1 this Sunday.
Enjoy your new toy!
THAT is just a Beautyful Honda VTR 1000 SP 1....Like Henry Said : WOW😍

I've just received my clear screen. The best way to go!
Top tips for set up! Thanks for demystifying and simplifying this dark art!
I just loved staring at the bike while you were doing the suspension set up. All time classic!!!! Wish I still had mine.
Still looks pink. Even outdoors.
I learnt a lot from this. Thank you!

Sp1 undertrays are discontinued and very sort after, some folks are fitting SP2 subframes as Sp2 undertrays are still available from Honda
The best explanation of suspension setup I have ever seen. Thanks so much for making it so clear and informative. Bike looks amazing!
Look into Dave Moss Tuning, he's a suspension setup professional.

Lucky old Henry! Well done Dave looks great. Really enjoyed this sp1 resto.
Brilliant great tips on suspension set up and a top job back to how it should look 👍

Great series. Really well done, informative and some good old Lincolnshire humour. What’s next ?
The R1 project has just launched!
That was fun.👍😎

The top out springs make it look more bouncy than it really is... And we have some very bumpy roads 😂
Love these videos
True investment
hi, would you know where i can get the rear shock refurbed for my sp1 . bouncing like a bogo cheers
Top !
Great series! are you still going to do a farewell ride on in here in 2021 ;-) ?
That's the plan! Just need to organise some good weather and dry roads!

Great machine, top work. Is that the colours Nicky Hayden raced them in?

Yes it was
Was that a teaser pic at the end YZF ? .hope so
Looks like a '98/'99 maybe.

Nice video but the sag on Front was calculated 36,5mm NOT 38,5mm
Maths isn't my strong point 😂
There is no chanse to find a sp in good condition in russia. Its sad. Good job!
A quid-an-hour labour, Dave? That's precisely the type of salty rate that causes would-be punters to butcher their own bikes instead. It's an outrage!
:)
Hahaha $1 per hour
