Her coach also said she may decide to participate in a track event and the marathon in Paris next year. She is without a doubt the best female distance runner ever.

This performance in my eyes is objectively even better than Eliuds WR in 2022. The conditions were not perfect. Kiptum basically ran sub 60 for the second half 🤯🤯 This guy is the real deal. Kiptum oh my god I still cannot belive it. If he races in Berlin or Valencia this summer he breaks that WR. He basically could easily have broken the WR today. He looked so easy and had so much in his tank. The boy will run sub 2 absolute momster. We need Kiptum in Berlin, and it will be unreal to see what he will do in Paris next year. Kiptum’s performance makes me feel sad that Eliud may be getting old because I’ve been rooting for him for so long, but times always change. I just hope Eliud wins the 2024 Olympic marathon.

His 13:49 5km split between 30-35km was faster than the 5000m Gold Medal time from the 2015 world champs 🤯 23 years old in his 2nd marathon and he's within touching distance of the world record...
To think he could have ran into the stadium having been 20 miles already, and beat mo farah just running and training at the time specifically for 5k. It's a feat that's going to be difficult for farah himself who ran this race, to comprehend.
Kiptum at 23 is the future, if he is healthy he will surely break the WR, Kipchoge showed what can be done and the mental barrier of 2hrs has been pierced. If old Kipchoge did it, albeit with special pacers, etc., there's no reason that a much younger Kiptum who might still be peaking can't. Hassan is just special, her range is just unbelievable, truly, a once in a generation athlete.

Could that have bought him 20sec? 2: all the odds were against Hassan: - Training has not been optimal(fasting month where she actually couldn't practice her hydration, she was visibly struggling at with her hydration, this sub optimal training causing her so much doubt that she actually threw up the morning of the race. Sifan Hassan is just incredible. She is an exceptional athlete. One reason I think Sifan can run sub 2:14 for the marathon is her mental and physical strength and her body shape. Her body is built to run marathons, I look at the shape of Kiptum and Kipchoge, Sifan's body is built along the same lines. I can't wait to see her run more marathons. I am eager to see her run the 5k, 10k, and marathon in the next Olympics.

What I would like to see is Kiptum vs Jacob Kiplimo. Kiplimo is yet to debut in the marathon distance but has been dominant at the half marathon in the preceding years.
The new king is here- Kiptum will be the sub 2 hour man, and the new GOAT. I think the handoff is inevitable. Not sure if he can be as beloved as Kipchoge, but this is a clear sign of the new king, here to make his mark.
All the sdigns point towards him breaking the records. But I think you're right, not sure he will live up to kipchoge. Part of what makes Kipchioge so great, is his attitude and stewardship of marathon racing, pushing all athletes forward with him.

It's interesting that a week after Kipchoge began to show signs of age catching up with him, somebody truly special has emerged. I think this is the end of the Kipchoge era and boy has it been one hell of a journey! Nobody has done as much for the marathon as a sport as he has. We should all be in awe. I look forward to what Kiptum will do. While I agree this performance is absolutely insane, I don't want to put him on a pedestal too early. It could be another Dennis Kimetto moment even though I hope it's not. The consistency of Kipchoge has been completely revolutionary.

The craziest part of this to me is his age. He's only 23 & has many years to improve. Most marathon runners peak in their early to mid 30's. This guy could break the world record very soon.

This was an awesome day of running - I was there and when I saw Kipton at mile 22 I was blown away. My brother (almost 50) ran 2.56 too - much quicker than either of us dared to believe. Kipton though, has redefined marathon possibilities - whatever next!?

This kelvin kiptum guys is absolutely crazy. Kipchoge has trained his whole life and brought track experience for like 10 years but this dude runs for a couple years tops seriously and now has the ability to the fastest ever at the age of 23? 13 minute 5k split in a marathon is absolutely ridiculous and sub 1 for a close? I thought kipchoge's goat status was cemented but if this guy can do anywhere near the stuff hes doing now, hes going to be the goat easy. However I feel like this is too good to be true. 23 yrs old only? Only 1 man ever has come close to a performance that kelvin has just done? Obviously very suspicious, and in my experience, if it seems too good, it probably is. Either doping or going to be the goat in a few years.
I imagine I'm late to the game in asking the following question(s), so please forgive my ignorance. Someone please tell me about pacers. When did pacers become a thing in distance races? Are there rules for pacers and or racers to follow when there are pacers present? Who chooses the pacers? What are their qualifications? How are they to be trusted with setting a pace? What pace are they supposed to set? What if they set the 'wrong' pace? Is there an internet source/site I can go to to find out about this?
Can only hope Kipchoge stays on top form next year and a few more. Him vs Kiptum and one of these insanely fast fields may yield the first sub 2 hours sooner than expected.

I think today showed that not only Kiptum but also Hassan could break the world records. Hassan made some of the best marathoners in the world look like comparative amateurs...in her first marathon, without proper training, and going into the race with an injury.

This kelvin kiptum guys is absolutely crazy. Kipchoge has trained his whole life and brought track experience for like 10 years but this dude runs for a couple years tops seriously and now has the ability to the fastest ever at the age of 23? 13 minute 5k split in a marathon is absolutely ridiculous and sub 1 for a close? I thought kipchoge's goat status was cemented but if this guy can do anywhere near the stuff hes doing now, hes going to be the goat easy. However I feel like this is too good to be true. 23 yrs old only? Only 1 man ever has come close to a performance that kelvin has just done? Obviously very suspicious, and in my experience, if it seems too good, it probably is. Either doping or going to be the goat in a few years.

I imagine I'm late to the game in asking the following question(s), so please forgive my ignorance. Someone please tell me about pacers. When did pacers become a thing in distance races? Are there rules for pacers and or racers to follow when there are pacers present? Who chooses the pacers? What are their qualifications? How are they to be trusted with setting a pace? What pace are they supposed to set? What if they set the 'wrong' pace? Is there an internet source/site I can go to to find out about this?
Can only hope Kipchoge stays on top form next year and a few more. Him vs Kiptum and one of these insanely fast fields may yield the first sub 2 hours sooner than expected.

Thanks for this analysis. It looks like Kiptum could beat Kipchoge head to head at this point on a flat course, because of his second half. I think today showed that not only Kiptum but also Hassan could break the world records. Hassan made some of the best marathoners in the world look like comparative amateurs...in her first marathon, without proper training, and going into the race with an injury.

Kipchoge's world marathon record is breakable. That seems impossible but it's true. Kiptum is only 22 years old. Sifan Hassan is going to run a fast marathon time too. For sure once she trains mainly for the marathon she can run around 2 hours, 15 minutes.
