Thank you for sharing. If possible, please share more how to service video. These will help new motorcyclists like me to keep the bike at good and safe condition. Thanks.
Hey John, thanks for providing another quality maintenance video 👍 I think you’ve highlighted the fact that every manufacturer does not apply enough lubricants on to mechanical systems. So, just as you are doing, I would also suggest that these investigations & applications be done as soon as a motorcycle is purchased. I do this when Christmas comes around.😉 Thanks again.
Great video once again. Between watching you doing the steering head and now the swing arm, makes me wonder what else that needs lubed. Only thing else I would have liked to see is adjusting the chain tension. Thanks for you training. So nice to see it done slowly and explaining small details.
So informative and I learned other things along the way. Thank you. Also.... I looked for you while running around the NW Arkansas with a buddy on our bikes .
Great stuff. thanks for sharing another maintenance video. Looks like they needed to grease your bike better during construction. Not horrible. But I'd have liked to have seen more grease, for sure. I appreciate your work on this bike and maintenance.
After watching, you don't have to take the bearings out, so I don't see any need to take anything off, just uncover the bearings, grease, and put shaft in , and cover up. You might loosen the Chan to release tension. What you think? RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
something to save you time, no need to slacken off the chain adjusters if removing the wheel. just take the axle nut off, take the adjuster block off that side, tap the axle just enough to allow the other side adjuster block to come away from the adjuster bolt, and then the wheel moves forward enough to slip the chain off, then axle out, wheel out. do the reverse and then the wheel and chain go back in at the same adjustment with which you started with, i do it on every bike i owned, hope this helps.
It's NOT just CFMOTO that does not grease the sispension. I've been buying brand new motorcycles since 1967. (I bought a brand new CL350 Honda in 1967 for $700 with my paper route money). I've bought and worked all my bikes over the last 56 years or so. Yamaha's, Hondas, a shit load of Kawasaki's and guess what, 99% of the time I found very little to almost no grease in the rear suspension needle bearings when doing the first tire changes. I'd always be amazed how little grease I'd find in the rear suspension's needle bearings, wheel bearings. steering head bearings. That is why I've always done my own tire changes.
My Tuono 660 came like this as well. Had to be lubed. Japanese are guilty of this too. They are all cutting costs wherever they can. Lube job is the first thing I ask from my mechanics to do.
Great video on servicing the 800T. Just picked up mine last Saturday and rode 100 miles back home. It was great, I'm loving it. You mentioned ordering new bearings, any recommendation for a site that carry parts or do you source via the dealer? What about a service manual, any recommendation? Thanks.
Good to hear from you sir, congrats on your new ride... I just ordered bearings and sleeves for a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure through an online KTM dealer.. 'chapmoto.com" out in California. just about all the parts on the Ibex are KTM 790 Adventure. I also bought a 2020 790 Adventure service manual pdf online. I have not found much that is different on this bike as far as parts go... I cannot seem to find where I got the manual from but I just did a search on Google for " 2020 KTM service manual" there were several to choose from. Enjoy that new ride... thanks for watching.. :)
Thank you for your videos. I think i will buy a 800 touring in the spring or summer , and your work will help me a lot. It looks like a simple bike to work on. I hope it will be reliable on the long term. Have a nice day !
Great Job 👍 thanks. My sons and l are always wondering what line of work you were in John, we obviously reckon it was mechanical engineering. You certainly know your way round a motorcycle. Really enjoyed this video. Mike.

I owned an automotive service business for several years and worked as an auto body tech for several years as well. I also worked for a large remanufacturing company building Chrysler and Toyota transaxles/transmissions for quite a few years as well. I have been working in enterprise IT for the last 15 years and am thinking it might be time to retire or at least slow down now.. Thanks for watching and yo guys keep safe out there... :)
Thanks for yet another great video, John. Should be taking delivery of mine soon. I'll add this to my list of things to check. If you could; what size is the rear axle nut? I want to make sure I have the right tools for this (and others) job.
Hey there Steve... I believe the rear axle nut on the Ibex is 1 1/4" or 32mm.. your choice... thanks for watching and good luck with your new ride... :)
I'm planning on selling a few of my bikes for an 800mt here in Oz. Looks like if I buy one, I'll have to take the swingarm and the front and rear axles out and grease them. Had the same lack of grease on most bikes I have bought.
so if I want to get a quick look a those bearing a can just remove the foot peg assembly both side and remove the swing arm shaft with out remove all the rest?
Great to hear from you sir, other than the swing arm bearings I have had no issues with the CFMOTO. The fueling is not great on this bike but I knew that before I purchased the bike so that was no surprise. I do not have much to complain about with the Ibex... thanks for watching sir... :)
Good to hear from you sir, the CFMOTO Ibex 800T/MT has identical suspension components as the KTM 790 Adventure. I use a KTM 790 Adventure service manual for all of my torque values... Thanks for watching... :)
Hello John, thanks for the detailed video. What is the mileage of the bike? Did You have any issues with the bike during one year of ownership? I am considering to buy one.
Hello there sir, good to hear from you... I now have 8000 miles on the CFMOTO. I have had no other issues with the bike other than the swingarm bearings... It has been a rock solid performer so far... I am not a fan of the fuel mapping but I am used to it now so its not a big deal to me... Good luck with your new bike and thanks for watching... :)
@@ozarksbackroads5484did you consider doing the ota update that supposedly fixes the fuelling? Maybe this helps? I sold my versys 1000 and my project for a 1250gs will not realize... I'm now looking at one of these ibex 800!
@@pascalparent3137 Good to hear from you sir, yes I did the OTA update when it came out... it was a fix for the fan controller issue that all the bikes had with the original factory firmware... Question. Does the Ibex have a problem with corrosion? Im surprised they didnt do those tasks before they came out of the factory. I live by the ocean so corrosion prevention is a big deal for me. The steering head as well.
Hello there sir, I have not had any issues or heard of any issues with corrosion on any of the CFMOTO bikes but I do not live by the ocean either.... thanks for watching... :)
What prompted you to lube the steering head bearings and the swing arm bearings? Im asking because im looking at one of these bikes in the near future and would like to make the right choice on buying this machine
Hello there sir, sorry I am so late in replying... I service the swing arm/drag link and steering head bearings in all of my bikes every winter just as regular maintenance... thanks for watching and good luck with your new bike purchase... :)
I've had a lot of dirt bikes (Honda's. Kawasaki's, Yamahooter's, and Suckzuki's) with a lot of swingarm arm and linkage needle bearings, axle bearings, head bearings etc etc Guess what, they all seemed to come from the factory with very little to, to almost no grease on the bearings. You should clean and regrease the axle and steering head bears too. Changing out bearing races is no fun.
Good to hear from you sir, I packed the steering head bearings in a previous video.... ua-cam.com/video/33yJN1m1ly4/v-deo.html Thanks for watching... :)
Good to hear from you sir, It is always a good idea to check all bearings on a new bike... I have seen this before on other bikes... I am loving the Ibex.. a really nice bike to travel on ... :)
Hello there sir, good to hear from you. I found my swing arm bearings were dry and rusting so I think yes it is necessary to lube the bearings on a new bike.... thanks for watching... :)
That’s a shame if only they took 2 seconds to grease them Properly, you wouldn’t have to take the whole bike apart and spend time and money . What’s it to them they can’t add another pennies worth of Grease it pisses me off
