OK. What you guys are teaching is called the hinge. I go to Kegel every year. I went there for my Bronze, Silver, and their Direction Master Class. They cover this in the Master class pretty extensively. (They call it Ball Placement at Kegel) Experience teaches me that everybody has a unique timing clock in their brain and it’s up to the coach help find it. Some folks, no matter how much they try, cannot hinge their push away. In those cases I look for a happy median, somewhere in between the extended push away and hinge but always avoid a push away that creates muscle tension. Daria Kovalva has the extended push away as did I up until last year. I had too much tension in my forearm and bicep. If you have soreness there after bowling, guess what? You have too much tension in your swing. What happened after Del Warren taught me the hinge, and continues to happen is my ball speed increased, average rev rate went from 292 up to 340, and my ball speed up 1.5 MPH. At 69 years old that’s a good thing. Nice job guys! How about a video on alignment? Having proper alignment in the setup and a correct push away fixes many problems.
These two young men used to be a way to kill time watching behind the scenes of modern professional bowling. It is an interesting lifestyle, so I watched. Plus pro bowlers are like league bowlers - they like to make fun of each other. I bowled continuously in leagues since 1979 and have watched the PBA since before Norm Duke. I miss it now that it is gone. The only thing left is Brad and Kyle. While it wasn't intended, they are now the face of bowling!
They are the face of pro bowling because they have worked hard at being the best they can be and have developed a you tube following that is extremely helpful to the amateur trying to get better.
Thanks Brad and Kyle great content and info on the push away... miss you guys out on the lanes and on tour!!! 🤙🏽😊🤙🏽 can’t wait to get back to bowling 🎳 too 😊
IT seems to me that perhaps some of the motivation to a long push away is to create momentum for the backswing to get a higher backswing so it is easier to get more power using the momentum of the ball through the finish. I can see where this might work well for women or weaker people that may have a more difficult time controlling a smooth straight backswing and getting the backswing high enough to take advantage of the downward momentum that a higher backswing can provide. I have begun to develop more of a "tweener" push away, not long but not short either. I have lengthened my push away slightly and also begin it slightly sooner than I used to. I have found that I can get a bit more power, more smoothly, more fluid with a little bit less effort, also helping me to keep the ball online a bit better since I am using the momentum of the ball a bit more. Consequently, for me, it has helped quite a bit. I am able to hit my marks more consistently and able to control my ball speed a bit better with more power when I need it. I am really liking the "tweener" push away. .. well, after watching Kyle's first push away, I would say that is actually pretty darned close to what I am doing now. Sheeesh .. I guess watching all of these Brad and Kyle videos is starting to rub off on my .. FINALLY! 🙂. I am landing my push away at the same time as my first right foot step (just as Kyle is doing here). This definitely seems to me to work very well. Take note kids, THIS is definitely a good way to do it! .. man, Kyle has such great form, such a great bowler.
Hey Kyle, growing up I was taught that my follow thru should go past my right ear, being straight down the right side of my body the whole way. I notice yours actually crosses your head to the left side. Is this due to the extra revs you are putting on the ball?
Great video as always. I just got done reading an opinion piece on professional bowling and it being a "viable" career for young bowlers such as you guys. Could you perhaps chime in on what all you do as far as earning income? Do you just bowl on tour? Do you each work in the bowling industry in some other way to supplement income? Really curious to hear a touring pros perspective. Anyways keep up the great work. I love the behind the scenes looks, and the positive energy and attention guys are bringing to this game I love so much.
I did enjoy this one very much. I have a few questions for both of you. Maybe or possibly a piece on starting position ball up high in you’re starting position ball down low in you’re starting position. Also I hear the term thrown around a lot the flat spot can you do a piece to explain what is the flat spot. Thanks! Lastly a question I think I have asked before as I dropped the ball down into my swing after the push away should I be firming up my wrist as the ball is on its way down and back ?
Thats really an interesting theme for me because I have in general really large arms and I tought I am forced to have a large push away because of this in order to have a stretched arm in the swing, but it always lets me feel like I dont have control over my swing the hole time... so thanks for the video and I will try to work on it!
Just got back into bowling after a 20 year break. I bowled a lot as a junior (thousands of hours) but I never understood how they say to relax no muscle of the swing but you guys have high back swings. How do you have high back swings if you are just allowing the ball to drop after the push away?
Long push gets my feet moving too fast and makes my backswing lower because I get to line too fast/early. Dropping it from the same height closer to your body does not change the velocity of gravity.
@@AverageLeagueHack Timing is essential. If you change your pushaway, you have to change your timing (you have to push the ball into motion at a different point in your approach). If you go for a more extended pushaway, the ball should start to move forward sooner then you have been doing before the change. If you shorten your pusshaway and go for a hinge (dropping the ball with no forward motion) you should make the ball start that motion later in your approach (then your normal timing). This way your timing will line up and you won't have to "chase" the ball or wait on it.
Hi guys, could you make a video about the direction and the forces of your hand during the release? I’m confused about how to do it, some call it the frisbee, some call it holding a purse, some call it twisting an American football... So do you have to roll, curl or swivel the ball to get an accurate hook? Regards, Floris
I was told it was a hinge push away. Bob Hart told me to act like the elbow, was a hinge. Tried up and out, only thing that happened was hurt my elbow.
guys maybe you should consider breaking down lofting playing inside 2-3 step. The videos are cool, but the reality lots of bowlers have little idea on this. Or the finer aspects of doing with projecting the ball way right of the landing area after the loft.
My experience is a longer push away makes my feet move faster chasing it and I get a shorter backswing and destroys my timing, release basically everything.
I wish my coach didn't taught me the large push away from the beginning because I already have this for 3 years then he just recently told me to lessen my push away last minute before my asian tournament💀
Great information. One question: I've basically bowled w/no pushaway because when I do push away my wrist collapses on the way back and my fingers end up at 3 p.m. or worse. Any tips for keeping the hand behind the ball as the ball comes back past the right hip (I'm right-handed)?
I was a bowler in 80s and 90s. I was taught in high school the long push away approach and as I went further and further in the game developed a bad habit of squeezing the ball. I went to the Dick Ritger Bowling Camp in the early 90s where they taught a shorter, more of a hinge push away. That really unlocked things and with their help and a LOT better local coach, went from a 190 to a 207 average in two years.
As his push away gets longer and longer, Kyle keeps winning and goes on to become bowler of the year, and the rest is history! Kyle eventually posts his revolutionary video: "How a huge push away put me in the bowling HOF".
What I noticed as a fitness coach. The large push away gives you a hinge effect to increase the momentum you generate with the ball giving you more power. Something else I notice was the coach from Nebraska coaching only females. I bet it’s a thing he uses to help some females get those extra mph
I've heard of lawn bowling. I have bowled candle pins in New England and regular bowling for decades, and I have never heard of 5pin bowling. Would you please explain briefly what this is? Not trying to be sarcastic or anything. I really have never heard the term.
@@Ironfangzu in 5pin bowling there is 5pins and the bowling balls are the size of candle pins balls, unlike 10 pin bowling you can bowl 3 balls per frame unless you strike or spare.. the higest score possible is 450.. I've always went the method that there's a string tied from your ball to your push away foot. If your push away is too far it would not be aligned with the ball = bad timing

Although I agree for the most part, your guy's wording and physics is not correct. When the ball is further from the ball you have more "leverage" or torque. Think about a pry bar. If the ball is closer to the body, the only way to generate power is with your muscles. Where a pushout further away from the body uses more leverage and gravity. I keep the ball closer to me as well. Just wanted to clarify that what you guys are saying is not how physics works.

Love watching you two interact and give lessons. My bowling house for probably 25 years has been Concord Lanes in south county. Thanks
Good tips about timing. Has been one of my big problems. Will try to get closer to body and just drop.

With a long push away you create high back swing with gravity. Small pushaway you have to use muscle to create higher backswing

I do the shorter pushaway, but I do it on the opposite foot because I find a three step approach works best for me.

Kyle what shoes where you wearing when you did the baller review
I have two questions. When starting is the ball directly on your side or is it in front of the body below your peck? Also how to get a long pull back?

What is your axis tilt?
Somewhere between 30 and 40
Thanks a bunch
By keeping the ball close are you muscling the ball to achieve a big backswing?
I try and bowl cranker but i cant really hold onto the ball when i come back around my pendulum. Are there any tips anyone can give me?
Just do this drill with my coach..

My first thought is your push away is too much in front of your body. (Horizontal plane) Where is the ball is your in your stance?
sportsfntc Well your kind of lucky because when the wrist is stiff the finger are numb and damaged.
@@AverageLeagueHack - Thanks - around the ribcage area I suppose
Big pushaways create squeeze and hurt how the ball gets into the swing smoothly. Great info BRAD!!!

I hold my bowling ball on my hip and my back swing is only about 2 1/2 foot

Confused.. Which finger is your speed finger and which is your hook finger.
the pushaway determines your foot speed and timing. you have to be synchronized to make it work. do what works best for you
Agreed a 100%
I stick with a zero push away 🤭
But on the further push away that you said you didn't like you made a strike on your push away you left the 6-10??????????
