All of the little tweaks and adjustments which became second nature to execute, I'm now having to relearn from almost scratch. Balance is the big one. Thank God I can go back and watch all your videos again! Keep up the great work and hit that 100K soon...
A 40 pin drop on your average sounds like a few strikes and many missed spares. Work on spare conversions first. The few strikes will then get you back over 200.

I grew up looking at the arrows. I recently started looking at the dots to help get the ball down without lofting it. I noticed I was "more accurate" at the dots, but the margin for error is smaller. I recently switched back to looking at the arrows. I'm a little sloppier at my target point, but much tighter downlane. So it really is a personal preference. Whatever you need to do to find the breakpoint.
Realizing there are so many different ways to look at it helps. I don't bowl the way the majority of people bowl(I actually end on my same leg as hand I bowl with). But being reminded of fundimental info helps.

Brad & Kyle, always enjoy your videos, great theme song. Brad, at the beginning of this video you say that you use the dots . At the end of the video you say that you use the arrows for your target. You both say it does not matter which you use , dots or arrows, so I am assuming that you , Brad, change your target as you play. Is this correct, or is there an error in the video script?
I have a question I drift and I drift badly let's say I stand on 20 and once I start going towards the foul line I go from 20 to the left and I end up back at either 20 or somewhere between that i cant ever seem to be able to walk a straight line can u help me plz with this some tips I can work on
I'm getting back into bowling after 30 years. Even when I was nine years old, I loved the fact that bowling was all up to me. Once I release the ball I have no control, so it's all in my visualization and accuracy.
Great video, you explained it very clearly and in simple terms, showed it to my kids (whom you met at 2019 US Open!) and it will be a great help in their bowling education.
2 and 3 arrow is normal depending on various ball types . . .but Oil patterns suck in tournament play very hard like the shark pattern hate that one lol
Question for Brad. In the beginning of the video, Brad says he targets the dots. But, when he demonstrates a shot at the end, he says he looks at the arrows. Please explain.
Love watching your videos but question for Brad. @ 2:25 you said you look at the dots and then @ 7:41 you said you look at the arrows. Please explain... Also Please tell Kris Prather that was awesome watching his 300 game/bet plus I just got to watch his Win in Ohio.
I believe he’s talking about a 3 point targeting. You look at where you want your ball to read the lane?(breakpoint) for 3 seconds then you move to the arrows for 3 seconds then the lay down spot for 3 seconds. You move from each spot to visually draw the line to the pocket and then most people look at the arrows during their approach. I could be wrong but this is what I use and it sounds similar to what he’s talking about.
im a 2 hander with a 200 average but i never pick a mark to aim at. i just “know” where to throw it. i just know if its good or not. should i try and get a spot to throw at or nah
You're just playing an area, if you are standing in the same place and moving as the night goes on, it's ok to play that way. Especially on a house shot. Although, being able to nail your target board at the arrows or dots, and hitting a 2-4 board area at the break point down lane will dramatically increase accuracy and scoring. It will also allow you to adjust one or two boards left or right to change the trajectory of the ball. This becomes exceedingly important if you ever get on professional sport oil patterns. I was chatting with Brad at a PBA event and we touched on the subject a bit.
When you say you "know" where to throw it, that's your visualization. You know that if you place the ball here, it will go there and curve like that and hit the pocket like this. You're FEELING it rather than memorizing it, and it is good to have that instinct. But it's not great for consistency when suddenly you DON'T know where to throw it. What's your point of reference that you have to use to adjust? If you move left, how much are you moving? If you're lucky guessing, that's not consistent, even if it gets results. I suspect you do know the details but you're just not paying attention to them. If you can repeat your shot consistently, then you have a set position and a target already. You're great at visualizing, and your execution is coming subconsciously rather than being a ritual you memorize and follow. I just don't personally trust myself to be that physically consistent, especially after many hours of bowling. Fatigue really hurts my game.
My question is where to position your feet when you are targeting. II my shot is straight up board 8 where should I position either the edge of my right foot or the inside of my left foot at the start of the shot and assuming I do not have any drift.? I guess another way to ask is how many boards difference from your feet to the laydown board?
Jim thank you for the reply.. I too position with inside of left foot but have had like a 10 or 11 board difference . Whenever we get get back to bowling I will try the 7 or 8 board difference.
@@stephenczaja125are you drifting to the right? For instance if you start at 15th board do you end up on the 12th? Good luck with your practice habits.
Meanwhile.. I just centre my focus on the pins firmly and insure that my release is as straight as I can make it. :D Aiming for the strike pocket. It has worked 85%/90% of the time. I struggle to see the arrows on the lane due to the glare of lights. (Sometimes I aim between 2nd and 3rd if I am able.) It still ends up being roughly the same results. My balance has drastically improved via some words from a teammate (to the point where I am unable to bowl the way I did before.) But the key for me personally? Listening to music via headphones. I time my approach, my swing and my release to certain favourite tunes. Now that I am balanced and I take my time to slow down? I am seeing a real positive perk to my scores. I may not be a pro bowler by any means.. But 6 years in a league has provided me with a hobby that is essentially legal anger management. I am set to move to an alias league next year so that I am able to wear my headphones every time I play. (Stupid TBA rules will plague me no longer soon enough.) 🤣
your right when you say it does not have to have a number but my coach always says i want u to aim a the 10 arrow but he refers it to the amount of boards so it goes arrow 5 10 15 20 15 10 5 is that bad to actually make numbers for it
Usually when im bowling i am looking at the foul line and i got pretty good at it, but my shots do tend to be innaccuate with my target because my eyes are at the foul line and arrows but my shot ends off with my eyes at the foul line and not the arrows which nothing is wrong with looking at the foul line but the arrows create a better picture and result down lane
Brad said he looks at the dots then said he looks at the arrows ???? Also I have a question. For a righty what foot left or right do you put on your mark? Just curious what most bowlers do.
?? Bowling is the most complicated sport and always has been. The amount of details to keep in mind when bowling is extreme. Feet, speed, angle, ball, cover, core, shoes, rev, axis, swing, tilt, strength, oil, breakdown, balance, loft, pin action... the list goes on and on
Eric Friedman the mental part is being able to manage all of the factors I listed without losing focus. Which takes time to master. Mastering the physical aspect makes the mental part not as overwhelming.
I have to ask this question I don’t look at the arrows I don’t look at the dots I’m actually looking at the breaking point where the ball would break into the pans is that wrong
Chocoknight Andrew I can tell you something that a coach once told my sports league. Throw a slow ball down the middle and watch where it hooks. Where the ball hooks will tell you the length of the oil pattern. The amount of oil on the lane can then be determined because the volume used is always the same. The difference comes with the length of the pattern. Typically short patterns (less than 39 ft) will have heavier concentrations of oil in the front because the pattern is squooshed. A medium pattern (39-42 ft) will have a more even distribution of oil. A long pattern (above 42 ft.) will have a lower concentration of oil as it is spread out. There are lane maps online that you can use to tell you how long each portion of the lane is (front, middle, and back).
Chocoknight Andrew I’m not talking about an oil pattern sheet. I’m talking about a lane map (that’s what I call it anyway). It’s just a picture of a lane showing how long in feet the approach to the foul line is, the foul line to the dots, the foul line to the arrows, and the arrows to the pins. Using all of that information as well as the information I gave in my last reply can tell you all you need to know to figure out the length and concentration of oil. This can then help you learn where to play and where to move once you see transition.
Anybody have tips for my issue? I’m starting to pull my eyes, I’ll line up and know where I want to throw on the arrows and I’ll make a good shot but my eyes will focus on the ball and I won’t see where I hit at the arrows
I know what you're saying, it's probably because you're a bit too interested in the result. You can practice with a house ball or something that you know is not going to strike. Line yourself up and do your pre-shot routine as normal, execute your shot and stare down your mark at the arrows. Watch the ball roll over the exact board at the arrows. Do not watch the ball after the arrows. Write down those exact boards after every shot. Throw 20 shots like that and then look at your paper to determine how accurately you're hitting your mark. Once you lock down this first mark then you can work on trying to get the ball to hit your first Mark and travel onward to the trajectory that you chose down Lane at the break point. We all get excited about strikes but doing this kind of leg work will definitely bring you more strikes in the future. You even being concerned about something like this shows that you're a very serious bowler. Good luck out there.
Been bowling forever and I can't tell you what I roll it over each shot. Second arrow, simple game my friend. My wife and I both have 300s as well. Not that it makes me any more credible lols.
Dane Whittington you can definitely get away with that on house shots, but I bowl a lot of sport shot tournaments and it’s frustrating when I throw a good shot and don’t know where the ball hits

I'm 64 havent bowled in 40 years. I started with the arrows if I was missing my target I would go for the dots. Then watch what arrow it was hitting. going bowling tonight for the first time in 40 years . My ball is from then also . Urethane hammer 1st generation. lol. hope I survive.
I've been bowling for 60 years. I have lost considerable speed in my old age, due to rotator cuff surgery. Any hints on how to increase my speed? Used to average 200 ... now I'm about 175.
Hang in there. I’ve got 60 years on the lanes too. After my shoulder surgeries I started working out at home. And doing cardio. My speed and scores went back up after a while. Weights at home worked for me but some like to go to a gym.
Thomas I know your struggle you have a decade of bowling on me. I however just came back at beginning 2021 and 2022 season after having contracted a nasty disease in 2019 I had lost 30 lbs. and was really struggling to get off the launch pad so to speak. Prior to the illness I was sitting at 215 average in three leagues. My big mistake was thinking I needed to really put a lot into the ball. The more I worked that strategy the slower my ball speeds where getting. So I decided to work my game for smoother everything. I started concentrating on getting a smooth start. I then cheated and went to the end of my throw and started working my release then my slide and balance. In short time my game started to come back. I started almost immediately seeing a difference, the smoother I got the better my accuracy became along with an increase in ball speed. I have been watching a lot of Brad and Kyle's videos during this season. (So Big Thanks to the Both of You.) They have really helped me with the fine tuning. I have now thrown some back to back 700 series and many high 600's I won't make it back to 200 average this season. I have been hanging in the 195 +- in all three my leagues I hit 200 average for a min. on one league but came down after a cpl. of weeks of bad. Next year is looking good to me though at least in my confidence. Not sure if this will help you but I sure hope it does. Good Hope for you and Good bowling.
Me 2 weeks. Last Sunday was about to go out of the house to go to the bowling alley for Sunday league when they last minute cancel that night's league due to a suspected person who played there earlier in the day.
League is cancelled to further notice here in Michigan with only 2 weeks left and we are in first place been bowling hot ready to take the league now this layoff, feels horrible man. Miss it already.

Very good and helpful tips, guys. Thanks for your videos and they had truly helped my game. Keep making them and you have us to watch and learn to elevate and improve our bowling scores. Kudos and appreciate your bowling tips.
Is it bad to look at the pins then start look at the arrow then on release look at the dots? Should I focus on one?
Thanks. Great advice from 2 great athletes. Hope to see both of you working again soon
you must have access to your bowling alley for video recording . ours here in Washington state are all closed because of the CV19 battle .
Bowling basics 101. People get to tied up in just the bowling ball. Great video.
I have a question I drift and I drift badly let's say I stand on 20 and once I start going towards the foul line I go from 20 to the left and I end up back at either 20 or somewhere between that i cant ever seem to be able to walk a straight line can u help me plz with this some tips I can work on
Can u do some videos with packy and Chris to help out the 2 hander or no thumb bowler? 🤔
This helped me so much
I average around 209 and these videos are awesome. I look maybe 10 feet or so beyond the arrows and I've always wondered if that was normal or not
So the wsob shows were they ever done I seen the world championship but didn't see the rest. Also you videos have helped alot ty keep up the good work
king pin32 they postponed the WSOB animal patterns.
@@DeanMcCain thanks for the info
king pin32 you’re welcome
I'm getting back into bowling after 30 years. Even when I was nine years old, I loved the fact that bowling was all up to me. Once I release the ball I have no control, so it's all in my visualization and accuracy.
Can somebody please tell me the name of the song that they play in the intro because it is jamming
Great video, you explained it very clearly and in simple terms, showed it to my kids (whom you met at 2019 US Open!) and it will be a great help in their bowling education.
LETTTTTTSSSSS ……….. GOOOOOOOOOOO………. BLUES!!!!!!!!!! haha!! you guys from the STL area?
Great info guys!! Thanks
Appreciate yall!
Can you do a vlog on getting gown versus staying up at the line?
Will this help with two handed bowling as well
Of course. Visualize your shot, execute your delivery, stay balanced until the ball hits the pins.
do you recommend to get a polyester ball or to throw your strike ball flat
Why not, you always could use a spare ball for single pins that you don't need to hook it at.
I like the blues banner
Great tips guys thanks
My question is where to position your feet when you are targeting. II my shot is straight up board 8 where should I position either the edge of my right foot or the inside of my left foot at the start of the shot and assuming I do not have any drift.? I guess another way to ask is how many boards difference from your feet to the laydown board?
I position inside left....as a righty
Btw, if you walk straight you'll want to position your left foot at 14 or 15th board.
I'd like to know if some of these vids are pre-recorded??? cuz Kyle is still wearing C300 gear
They pre-record these videos in the off-season so they can release them during the season between the tournament videos
your right when you say it does not have to have a number but my coach always says i want u to aim a the 10 arrow but he refers it to the amount of boards so it goes arrow 5 10 15 20 15 10 5 is that bad to actually make numbers for it
at the begining brad said he aimes at the DOTS,at the end before he takes his shot he says he goes for the arrows?
Usually when im bowling i am looking at the foul line and i got pretty good at it, but my shots do tend to be innaccuate with my target because my eyes are at the foul line and arrows but my shot ends off with my eyes at the foul line and not the arrows which nothing is wrong with looking at the foul line but the arrows create a better picture and result down lane
Great video and great points guys, keep grinding after this corona v pass’s by.
I love this intro song!
Brad said he looks at the dots then said he looks at the arrows ???? Also I have a question. For a righty what foot left or right do you put on your mark? Just curious what most bowlers do.
So you can focus on the pins?
You guys are great, but when did bowling become this complicated?
?? Bowling is the most complicated sport and always has been. The amount of details to keep in mind when bowling is extreme. Feet, speed, angle, ball, cover, core, shoes, rev, axis, swing, tilt, strength, oil, breakdown, balance, loft, pin action... the list goes on and on
It's mostly a mental game,if you have the physical tools the people who are successful are the ones that have the heart to win.
Eric Friedman the mental part is being able to manage all of the factors I listed without losing focus. Which takes time to master. Mastering the physical aspect makes the mental part not as overwhelming.
Opinion respected,at the end of the day it is a great game.
Eric Friedman you originally didn’t know bowling was apparently complicated, and now you are acting like a PBA bowler. Interesting
where is the link
Brad F'n Miller in the 🏠🎳 team⚡storm🌀
Perfect video when getting mentally prepared for nationals.
Assuming it doesn't get cancelled.
I have trouble keeping my eyes on my target. I have a very high back swing like Kyle how do I keep my eyes on target.
Hi Brad Hi Kyle!
I have to ask this question I don’t look at the arrows I don’t look at the dots I’m actually looking at the breaking point where the ball would break into the pans is that wrong
Maybe could have a video on how to breakdown a pattern during practice
Chocoknight Andrew they have done exactly this already
@@darrencarone924 they've done how to break down a fresh oil pattern would you be so kind as to send me a link
@@DeanMcCain I know how to read a oil pattern sheet but to breakdown the lane like during state tournament or nationals would be beneficial
Brad, first you said you look at the dots, at the end of the video you said you look at the arrows?
What is one way to fix from you being too far behind the foul line?
Start your stride a litte closer to the lane. You are more than likely using the same number of steps before you release the ball every time.
I thought Brad said he looks at the dots...
That's my problem. Is the dot focus better than the arrow leading to the break point
Help. Conrsd
@@conradmitchell8118 well looking at the dots does make you put more hand on the ball and more revs so. I can only look at both sets of dots honestly
Yeah, he did.
Maybe Brad dots his I’s with arrows. He said dots and then arrows .IDK 🤷♂️
I used the dots as well
thanks
We all have our own way ...... I just found it easier to hit my spot that way
Sometime my eyes look down. It’s what is done natural for every shot. Sometimes I can just look at the arrows all the way through the approach.
Anybody have tips for my issue? I’m starting to pull my eyes, I’ll line up and know where I want to throw on the arrows and I’ll make a good shot but my eyes will focus on the ball and I won’t see where I hit at the arrows
Lou Scataglia what I did was have someone come with you when you practice and have them watch and ask you every shot what arrow you hit.
@@louscataglia7429 i gotcha, ive shot quite a few tourneys myself but its more trusting yourself, or asking a fellow bowler to see what happened like that one guy said. theres no way to know exactly how youve shot...these guys all have reps and coaches
I want to see Brad with HAIR is there an early video out there?
That intro fire 🔥🔥
Love it
I've been bowling for 60 years. I have lost considerable speed in my old age, due to rotator cuff surgery. Any hints on how to increase my speed? Used to average 200 ... now I'm about 175.
One more comment. You guys do a great service to us.
Damn bruh you been bowling for 60 years ?😳
Hang in there.
Man don't be ashamed of a 175 avg, my high is 147. 😅
I can’t bowl for a f***ing month because of the corona virus 😭
Today I went to a bowling alley just to discovered that they got shut down due to the virus. Feel bad man.
Me 2 weeks.
Last Sunday was about to go out of the house to go to the bowling alley for Sunday league when they last minute cancel that night's league due to a suspected person who played there earlier in the day.
i know it sucks!!!! I want to bowl so badly
40 confirmed cases before 1pm today *still goes bowling*
League is cancelled to further notice here in Michigan with only 2 weeks left and we are in first place been bowling hot ready to take the league now this layoff, feels horrible man. Miss it already.
I too miss bowling. I also miss the friend I have lost due to the virus. For all those missing their recreation, I would ask that you consider that there are many things in the world much more important than bowling.
