A war started by Dr Sinister as I suspected and he went so far that even Bolivar Trask himself was horrified. A needless stupid war created by an enemy of all rational sentient beings on Earth in this franchise but he wins because he gets his stupid all consuming evolutionary war.

And we get a lil bit of forshadowing. Gambit was Death for Apocalypse in the comics. The imagery invokes that.
Also seeing Nimrod with The Master Mold in the beginning we are definately getting Bastion soon.

Storms mother is Kenyan and her father is America where she was born in Manhattan. When she was 5 they moved to Cairo where there was a conflict between Arabs and Israeliès. A downed plane crashed into their home leaving her buried with her dead mother. Which resulted in her fear of enclosed spaces (Claustrophobia)
FINALLY! Some knows the original comic book lore...Storm suffers from severe claustrophobia as a result. She grew up on the streets of Chairo afterwards and learned pickpockets from those that took her in, sad childhood. The live action movies warped her story so, that some commentor from the live action movie with Apocalypse were stating she wasn't even black but Moroccan. The revamped animated show setting things straight.
Actually she was born in Harlem (yes I know Harlem is in Manhattan, but tell that that to people from Harlem) and moved to Cairo when she was a baby that's why she has the accent. She wouldn't have an accent if she moved when she was 5, she would have an American accent by 5 years old.

I remember the final episode back in the 90s. Yes Charles was dying and the technology on earth wasn't going to save him so Lelandra opted to take him off world where his chances of survival would be better because of their tech.
From what im seeing of their reactions. They haven't watched the ol skool show, especially the last episode of the series.

They talked about the past series at the end, what they remembered along with footage from the original series. They’ve seen it. One of them said they haven’t seen it since they were a kid and talked about what they remembered of the Shi’ar. The other knew less remembering only a little of the old show and drawing more knowledge from the movies. Jaby said the story is not following the same as the movie and said he knew the Professor had to come back while the other was sure he was dead-dead.
Gladiator (the purple flying mohawk guy) is the commander of and often a stand-in for the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. He's basically Marvel's homage to DC's Superman, with his superhuman strength, flight ability, physical invincibility, and eye lasers. In fact, his actual name is Kallark, which is a reference to Superman's Kryptonian and human names: Kal-El and Clark Kent.

His powers work on self-confidence, so if Gladiator fully believes that what he is doing is right he's basically unstoppable, but if he doubts then his powers falter dramatically.

Gladiator is "loyal" to Lilandra because she is Empress but his loyalty is to the throne not her as an individual. If she is legally deposed and another is given the throne like Deathbird he will follow them and not Lilandra.

2:42 Understandable. In the original animated series, he was dying. However, empress Lilandra had the technology to save him. But Professor X had to leave and the X-Men didn't know how long it would take for him to heal. Since they haven't heard from her empire for awhile, they assumed he was dead

A notable feat that made Gladiator memorable was when he tanked a punch from Juggernaut and then launched him across the ocean
Gladiator is one of Marvel’s three Superman archetypes. The other two are Sentry and Hyperion, but Gladiator’s powers are the most similar to Superman’s
Gladiator is great. He’s a Superman-like character whose entire power set is based on his belief in what he’s doing/himself. Break his confidence and you break the man.
I never knew much about Gladiatior but I always wanted to learn more about him I’m happy he appeared here.
Gladiator and the rest of the Imperial Guard are direct counterparts to DCs Superman/Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes.
Yup, he pretty much bodied the Fantastic Four until Reed figured that out and was able to beat him.
Cannonball defeated him in a 1v1 fight above New York during Christmastime. A standout issue, imo.

I felt bad not seeing Magneto's and Gambit's title cards in the intro.The cosmic scenes in this episode especially the beginning reminded me of Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Gladiator punched Deathbird like she had it coming for a long time. Also loved Storm's hair restoration power☺️

Btw that was gladiator that punched her not her lover Vulcan, he was in the earlier scene against the knee.
So the guy alongside Deathbird in the red outfit with the black on top and short dark hair is Vulcan, aka Gabriel Summers. It isn't brought up (yet), but he's also Deathbird's lover and makes the drama of the Summers family tree even more insane.
It's kind of strange that she is ok being with a Terran but it isn't ok for Lilandra
@@avataz "rules for thee, not for me" is hardly a rare attitude for the mad and powerful. And she probably doesn't know since he's an omega level mutant who wasn't born on Earth so they probably think he's from whatever planet they found him on. That or he's into being a pet like Charles is.

@avataz At the time she didn't know Vulcan was ripped out his mother's womb and forced grown on the Shi'ar homeworld by D'Kken when she and Cosair was taken, Cosair pushed Scott and Alex out of their plane when it was being taken by the Shi'ar. Scott hit his head and damaged his eyes as a child, and that is why he can't control his optic blast withouthis visor, and they didn't know their mother was pregnant at the time
Nice to see Nightcrawler in the opening as the new X-Men member.
Charles spent his entire life putting the advancement of the entire mutant race on his back. It would be no easy decision for him to make to leave it all behind, to finally let go and put his trust in his children to keep fighting the good fight.
He probably figured, at least at the beginning, that it would be easier for them to move on and focus on their mission if they weren't worried about him constantly on the other side of the galaxy.

Gladiators first appearances in the original cartoon he tosses Juggernaut like he was nothing which was insanely impressive. Of course then the Phoenix does the same thing to him which is funny. 😂
Charles only left for a moment so that he could implement his abilities so that he could be made to his full potential. Thanks to Lelandra in her advanced alien technology. And this epic comeback also put a smile on my face.
Storm is my favorite marvel character and I should tell you this. See, she is actually claustrophobic because of the result of her being trapped under rubble as a child when her parents were killed.
I can't believe they got rid of the mohawk so soon, but her magically Sailor Storm growing out her hair & then manifesting her iconic tiara shows that she's claiming her supernatural heritage. They even showed Forge's shamanic power (I mean I thought they'd just keep it simple & keep him as the science guy).
Literally a shamanic journey for both (& with Xavier as well), with Forge letting go of logical Western "science" to rely on the age-old wisdom of his mother & use faith to help his friend, Ororo accepting her past (her original 70s outfit), defeating her demons ("What are demons but reflections of our fears & shame") to let her move towards the future.
Screamed & hollered when Ororo got rehabilitated. She was NEVER depicted as THIS Goddess & THAT badass punk b*tch with the strongest will amongst all the mutants in any type of media apart from the source material (deplorably NEVER in the films, nor to this extent in the old cartoon).
I swear most of the writers in LA nowadays have GONE THROUGH SHAMANIC HEALING SESSIONS & this shows in all of the best writing LOL.

I love how both Storm and Charles stories parallel each other.
Seeing Storm regain her powers and her new black suit felt like watching Goku going Super Saiyan for the first time.
Storm's upgrade and powers evolution toward the end of this episode, reminds me of her classic look with the headpiece, long hair, dark uniform when she became the Queen of Wakanda after marrying T'Challa/Black Panther after his proposal...do you think she will meet him in this cartoon or like will he make a cameo appearance?
I think Gambit is having his Horsemen of Death and his New Sun storylines merged. When he's standing up, there's a bright sun behind his head, and Sinister is the one who did the surgery to repress his original powers. Sinister probably reverses the surgery and Gambit's healing factor kicks in as well as causing his powers to manifest oddly (death persona) and at a much higher level (New Sun). Probably betrays Sinister in the end, like the end of his Horsemen of Death to Marauder story arc.

I love how everyone is sobbing at this episode who knew an animated series could provoke such emotional chaos - I can’t rewatch this episode without howling in tears. EVERY SCENE with Magneto is RIVETING and POWERFUL - the writers are out of this world and voice actors OMG WHEW We needed these characters for the times we are in so relevant still!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
This episode was absolutely PACKED. It wasn't the emotional gut-punch of last week, but damn, did it deliver.
18:35 I completely understand. Yeah, the original X-Men animated series and X-Men 97 don't have restrictions like the MCU or the Fox Marvel movies did back than. They were able to make comic book accurate stories like this. When the X-Men films and the Avenger films started, that's when the restrictions came up until Marvel gained the rights back to their characters *Minus Spider-Man.* Hope this makes sense. 🙏🏽💪

Seeing Storm getting her powers. It gave me a very complete feeling of satisfaction. And seeing that the great goddess returned in her maximum splendor, with her characteristic black suit from the comics of the 70s and 90s. 👏😭🖤🖤

Sounds like you two didn't see the final episode of X-Men back in 97 where Professor X did die but Lilandra brought him back to life and said he'd be with her.

Ingenious use of reversing the arcs. He sacrificed himself for Genosha to survive, now Apocalypse will gaslight the hell out of him for mutantkind's resolve.
Both "Returns" were inevitable. Charles could only stay away for so long before he would have to come home. He has alot to do and people will need him now more than ever. Storm getting back to her goddess status was definitely more spiritual than physical. But her determination to save Forge was a perfect reason to start.

Heads up on who Gladiator is: He's essentially Superman. Super strength, hearing, invulnerability, hearing, ice breath, x-ray vision, heat vision, etc etc. The whole shabam. Only his powers decrease or increase depending on his loyalty to a cause and his confidence in himself.

Vulcan will be sick. He takes over the Sh'iar throne too! Starjammers coming back soon and Corsair should introduce Gabriel. He's half Sh'iar on his mom's side.
The professor did not die. In the original series. He was in critical condition. That is why Lalamdra took him to her world because they had the technology to heal him.
The X-Men know he's alive. That was the last episode of the original series. He was taken to space to save him. But he was put to death publicly on earth because it's easier to say he died rather than say he went to outerspace to be woth h8s alien girlfriend. Lol!
At the end of the original show. Charles was dying, so Magneto used his powers to amplify Charles enough so that he could contact Lilandra. She came and took him to the Shi'ar, to get him advanced medical attention.
I think Storm transforming has something to do with the awakening of her mystical ancestry and not really her x-gene. Storm comes from a long line of African sorcerers. Awakening her mystical power conjured her classic goddess costume and perhaps reversed the effects of gun. Because it surely rejuvenated her hair in an instant, lol.
I also suspect she's even more powerful now. Magic + X-Gene?!
i unfortunately think Gambit is dead dead, it’s what is bringing Charles back. Maybe he’ll be back if they bring in Apocalypse later but as of now, he’s the actual death needed to move the story forward. And with Charles coming back I wonder if Magneto is in a coma or something.
God I missed Charles Xavier! He is proof that the world needs good teachers to sustain times of peace. I wish that growing up, my teachers in school were just as compassionate and smart as Xavier.
Shiar dude with the cape and mohawk protecting the Professor X and Lilandra is named Gladiator. The Shiar created him from a test tube. He's basically their Superman, same powers and just as powerful. He feels the same way about serving the Shiar that Superman feels about "The American Way"...only WAY more intense. He was created to be the Shiar's ultimate weapon and protector and is only loyal to whoever's in charge, in this case it's Lilandra and Prof X. If Deathbird legally got elected then he'd work the same way for her. Dude is only loyal to the Shiar empire no matter who's in charge.
This is where the fun begins
At the end of season 5❤ Professor X left because he was dying, but the X-men told the world he died
The Imperial Guard are Marvel versions of the Legion of Super Heroes. Gladiator, the leader, is Superboy with super strength, flight, heat vision, and super breath. The gardeners were Kymellian, horse aliens, who were important in Power Pack's origin. There were plans for that team in the early MCU, this was in the book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, recommended, it really shows the decisions behind the movies or which ones were not made.
18:12 The crystal was called "The M'krann Crystal." And yes it was Lilandra, on the run from her tyrant brother D'kenn, who unleashed, and was consumed by, the crystal's power. The Phoenix stopped him and the chaos he was causing, and placed the crystal into the heart of the sun.
The M'Kron Crystal. De'Ken tried to use it to destroy the universe. Phoenix saved the universe.
Storm in her classic debut uniform…HELL YEAH! I’m all for it! And how beautiful was her reemergence…screw that how awesome was the entire sequence
It's several empires but the 3 major empires are kree/skulls/shi'ar. The shi'ar is basically what Xavier said they conquer other races and assimilate them.

That was dope seeing Gladiator lay the smackdown on peeps. He's strong as hell. But every time I see him, I hear "GET DOOOOOOWN" in Arnold voice because of the old Juggernaut meme vid haha.
Also that evil sister of the Shi'ar should probably stay far from Earth. The Phoenix Force is going to find its way back to Jean eventually. If she becomes the White Phoenix, that entire Empire could get dusted in an instant.
It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL seeing Storm shed her fear and insecurities about her powers and how humanity might react to them in a stunning transformation to her classic black costume. The OMEGA crown on her head says it all.
I also really like Charles's monologue to the Shi'ar royalty. He educated them on what it means to coexist and how the fear of acceptance is no way to live. Not to mention, the idea of them all sitting at little school desks is hilarious to me. I had a feeling Mr Sinister was behind the Genosha massacre, and considering that he sees Mutants as puppets to experiment on, I can imagine what more chaos he could bring; the man certainly lives up to his name. It is also funny that even Trask himself feels guilt over what he did and wants to die
If memory serves, in the original show Sinister was just an underling of Apocalypse (with his own agenda, of course, but respecting Apocalypse's power nonetheless). I wouldn't be surprised if he's the season's Big Bad, just to be revealed he was working under Apocalypse again and thus setting up Season 2. They're just like different power-level versions of the same concept at any rate, a "survival of the fittest" villain.

Still, then again, I don't really feel like Apocalyse would sacrifice Mutant kind for the sake of a larger plan since he was the first Mutant and wants their kind to be the superior beings under his dominion. I mean, you could be right, but I guess we have to wait and see, I'm certainly excited nonetheless

But if you remember Charles actually kinda did the same thing in the movies where he died and transferred his mind to another living body but with no brain activity well at least it's some what similar but the only difference is that The She-ra came and got him and saved him. But to see Storm regain her powers and become that Omega level threat that she can be if pushed there. Awesome reaction you two

GLORIOUS. Totally different pacing than last episode but it was super satisfying as well.

They even showed Forge's shamanic power (I mean I thought they'd just keep it simple & keep him as the science guy).
Literally a shamanic journey for both (& with Xavier as well), with Forge letting go of logical Western "science" to rely on the age-old wisdom of his mother & use faith to help his friend, Ororo embracing her past (her original 70s outfit), defeating her demons ("What are demons but reflections of our fears & shame") to let her move towards the future.
Screamed & hollered when Ororo got rehabilitated. She was NEVER depicted as THIS Goddess & THAT badass punk b*tch with the strongest will amongst all the mutants in any type of media apart from the source material (deplorably NEVER in the films, nor to this extent in the old cartoon).
I swear most of the writers in LA nowadays have GONE THROUGH SHAMANIC HEALING SESSIONS & this shows in all of the best writing LOL.
Storm's powers returned , but now she's OMEGA LEVEL and more powerful than ever .
People tend to forget Storm suffered from extreme claustrophobia since she was a child. Took a lot for her to fight through it….in the comics anyway lol

The bird demon is The Adversary is a powerful demon of the highest order and possesses vast supernatural powers. He is virtually invulnerable to anything but the most powerful magic and iron. He has superhuman strength and endurance.
He can enter and leave different planes of existence and dimensions at will and has reality-warping powers. He can also summon demons and other supernatural creatures to do his bidding.

It's been gone for a long time, so the X-Men assumed he was dead. Plus, they had to take care of the mansion as well
When it comes to Charles and why he may not have immediately returned (because he obviously really wanted to), it is because of his love for the Empress. Charles is loyal to those he cares about, and since he probably assumed that everything on earth was getting better, he didn't feel as if he needed to rush to go back so he remained with the Empress. Plus she did save his life so probably also felt like he was indebted to her in some way, and didn't want to cause anymore trouble for her so he probably used his abilities less. But, the conflict that caused him to use his powers may have also opened a channel to earth just enough for him to receive a vision of death. Him seeing all of the skeletons and seeing Gambit morph into a figure of death was just too much and he knows he has to go back.
This was a fun and interesting episode to watch, but the best part was Achara's reaction to "The Adversary" demon bird. When Achara was called it Birdbitch that had me rolling so hard laughing. 🤣
I had just finished cutting the lawn and was so tired. That "Birdbitch" comment made me forget all about being tired. Definitely one of my favorite reactions.

That look is Storm's original look, when she was first discovered by Xavier to help the original X-men (Cyclops, Jean-Grey, Beast, Banshee and maybe Quick Silver) to fight a Mutant Island (I think I bought that comic in 85 or 86). That's when they found and added Storm, Logan (Wolverine), Collossus, and Night Crawler (as part of the New Uncanny X-men) Yes my Geek Flag is Flying

you can really tell who watched the series fully and who didn't 😂😂 yeah, Charles never died, he had to leave earth never to return at least that's what was told... you also didn't see a grave , he was seriously injured only technology of that alien race would help that's why he had to leave.. and yes, gladiators just like superman, pretty much his only weakness, his self doubt.. so he is stronger than superman.. in that respect, he doesn't have kryptonite weakness ... all his students know he's still alive he just can't come back. They all know that.
Gladiator KLARKE is a character that is MARVEL's (SUPERMAN)..it is inspired by Superman and it's name is also KLARKE (Clark) kent..u can get the similarities

Charles was taken away by the Shi’ar to try to save his life, the X-Men were there to witness it, so they knew he wasn’t dead, that’s why they never say “the professor is dead”, they always say “the professor is gone”. But I do believe after 1 year without news about the professor, they grew more with the idea that’s he’s probably gone forever.
with the shi'ar you will get a lot of avian themes come out like ronan calling deathbird a pigeon or Lillandra calling deathbird a vulture. they are evolved from birds.

18:28 I understand. Remember, the X-Men are Marvel characters. They play a huge part and have a huge connection to everyone in the bigger Marvel universe. However, since Marvel lost the rights back than and started the MCU, it felt strange. The MCU has some good projects, but without the X-Men characters, the MCU always felt small. Even when they had the Guardians of The Galaxy, it still felt a huge piece of Marvel lore wasn't there. One big example is that Storm and Black Panther were married in the comics. However, during the events of Civil War, *Similar to the MCU film, but bigger in the comics* they had a divorced because they were on opposite sides. That's why some people were a little disappointed with Captain America: Civil War because almost all the Marvel heroes were involved. *Minus the Guardians if the Galaxy* The Fantastic Four and the X-Men were part of it to. Fortunately, the X-Men the animated series and X-Men 97 doesn't have that issue. Plus, Marvel has the rights to all their characters again! 👏
