Mike Harding it really doesn't make that big of a difference. Use a pair of pliers to pull out the old spline. If you still have trouble, then add a bit of lubricant. As for the fasteners... It's not that hard. Worst case scenario drill and replace the fasteners.

Where can I find that exact spreader? When I go to telescope's website the spreader is different. The one they show, I actually ordered in January from a different company and it never shipped and they aren't answering calls or emails. I like the one in the video - help.
his suggestion of adding 3/8" for the wooden spreader is perfect. I just did that today and it worked perfect. Thank you for simple suggestion

Looks real easy on that new chair they show. Try a 15 year old chair with stuck bolts. The spline dry rotted in and breaks.
