I have a porch glider which has been sitting outside for over 20 years and just last week the seat fabric finally gave out. I almost tossed it, in fact, I had emailed a metals removal guy to come to pick it up but he never replied so it sat for another few days while I looked for a solution. Finally, it dawned on me that somewhere in YT-land there must be someone who knows of or has done a seat repair and voila! your video popped up on my search. Perfect! Thank you so much. You're helping me save a glider from the recycle depot and I'll be able to sit outside and watch the sunsets again.
So good to see a real clip with all its frustrations like the rope getting tangled. You did a great job. I will use this weave for my chairs. A sit test at the end would have been good. 👍
I tried this on my patio chairs and I'm very pleased with the results! I actually wrapped the rope around both the upper and lower strands of the horizontal rope which have the appearance of old time bed springs. It is very sturdy and will probably last longer than the old seats that rotted in the sun and rain. Thanks for this ideal way to fix patio chairs!
Thank you for sharing. I like this weave, strong and sturdy. Looks good. Going to post on f/b for my friends to see so they don’t throw away their chairs. Thank you again for sharing.
Love it! Thank you! You have given me confidence to begin cutting away the plastic resin weave on these bangin’ chairs I saved from going to the dump! I’m so excited! ☺️ THANK YOU!!
Thanks a million for this. I bought a wonderful metal vintage metal table and chair set from a thrift store. The seats are trashed and I didn't know what to do to replace them. This is a wonderful idea. Thanks again.
Hi! We have almost identical chairs. Do you by chance remember where you got your rope/what the exact kind is? It’s the perfect color for our chairs! Thanks for the videos-this will be a fun diy!
We are stripping down our chairs now. We LOVE the shape and height of them, but their straps (woven) are brittle and falling apart. We are going to attempt to redo all of them. Love this weave pattern and the nylon/polyester rope you used! Thank you for sharing this with all of us out here!!
The only thing I would do to make things a bit easier is maybe wrap the rope around a piece of cardboard or wood so that you don’t have to pull the whole lot of rope through on each pull through if that makes sense. Might just help speed the process but other than that I love the video
Thanks for this!!! I have the exact patio set you have and this year, after about 4 years, the seat ripped on 2 of my chairs. I was looking to find how to repair them.
This looks great and it is on the kind of chairs I have that were purchased from Walmart but bottom of chairs tore loose after only one season, and they were keep inside during bad weather and during winter season, but fabric seemed to dry rot. This would work much batter. Where do you get the roping and how do you judge how much you need for each chair.
Thank you so much for showing your actual work!!😁 You might benefit from wrapping the cord around a shuttle just like weavers do. I might try this sometime.
This was just the idea/video I needed my dear old dad has some very similar metal framed garden chairs that are in need of repair and I’m all for a bit of DIY, just one question was that any kind of rope in particular or just ordinary cotton rope?
Looks very good. How would I know how much yardage I would need for 4 seats and backs of wrought iron chairs that used to have vinyl wicker/rattan, which rotted? I've been looking for years to find out how I could fix them, since they don't have holes in the iron or clips. Do you think I should measure around the seats twice and same for the backs, which don't meet the seats?
On my other video I did a very tight weave with the blue polypropylene rope and that took half of 100 ft. So I would think if you wanted a tight weave with backs too then 100ft could do 1 chair.
@@JustLiving2018 Chair X and Y dimensions, are they 18" ? My chair is 22" x 22", with about 1" diameter tubing. I tried 50 ft (1/4" cord) and got about 6 loops in X.
You could use clothes line, it is a type of plastic and there are many kinds to choose from. I would match size with the tight space. There is flat plastic but you have to order it and it is very expensive. That's why I went with rope.
I like the look of it. Why didn't you wrap the bottom rope with the top one? I macrame chairs but am always looking for something different. Thank you.
Hello, thank you for stopping in. This was a new pattern I saw and wanted to try it. I am no expert thats for sure. Im always looking for different things to see if It turns out good.
What is the name of the rope that you used? This is a very nice looking weave that you did! I have a love seat for out on my patio that I need to fix like this so please tell me what kind of rope did you use????? Thank you!!
I like your video but I would have liked to see how you ended the row and came back up to the front. Is it running in a straight line underneath or is it woven back to the front?
Billie I’m with you, I hate when ppl put good stuff in the trash. My wife is like that and it pains me. We go back and forward all the time on this issue
I Love the look. I have two metal chair frames almost identical to yours that gave been sitting on my front porch without seats, for two years! I would love to do this, but I'm not able to follow. Would you consider making a short step by step video just for one row...as an add on to this video. Thank you! Also, what type or rope or cord are you using, and what is the thickness and the length? Thank you!.
Isn't there a way of tying the rope up so you can pull it through as a whole instead of fraying it by pulling the whole length through each time? Just wondering. I've never done this.
I believe I may have the same chairs and I inherited this problem. Do you know where these chairs were originally purchased? Thanks for any help. Amazing job! The new seat looks awesome!
I stopped at the very back of the chair and tied it underneath so I wouldn't be seen. No special knot just a two knot, regular does fine in this case. The cushion with hid it when you put those on.
They are a whole set of furniture that is mainly for your garden area or outdoor space. However, you have to pay special attention to their maintenance. How to Protect your Patio Furniture click here - www.howtocrazy.com/use-alternative-ways-to-keep-your-outdoor-patio-furniture-dry/
How can you say in one clip that you saw it in a book, then later say you made it up? If you wrap your rope around something (called a shuttle), it's not as complicated to weave.

Now THAT would take some patience, SuiteLadyMaxi! I agree, I'll bet they are sturdy!
I want to try this! Did you do just the seat or both the seat and the back? How much cord did it take?
What kind of rope did you use and what is it called
What kinda rope please😊
what kind of rope did you use? I need to repair a metal frame love seat. use rope for the strength then buy cushions that fit it. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing. I like this weave, strong and sturdy. Looks good. Going to post on f/b for my friends to see so they don’t throw away their chairs. Thank you again for sharing.
What type of rope did you use for this? How much did you use?
Love your video!!!
Thank you for this vid! It's March 2023, and I have a new wknd project for Spring
Thank you for this video. I did not want to get rid of our chairs. What type of rope and How much rope did you purchase?
Love it! Thank you! You have given me confidence to begin cutting away the plastic resin weave on these bangin’ chairs I saved from going to the dump!
I’m so excited! ☺️
THANK YOU!!
Really love the look and how firm it seems even with a lot of air in it
Thank you for watching!
I like the way it turned out . Will try this on a swing seat.
I love the chair done in blue. Is there a video on how it was done?
I need to redo a seat. Just wondering how much rope you used and what kind?
Thanks a million for this. I bought a wonderful metal vintage metal table and chair set from a thrift store. The seats are trashed and I didn't know what to do to replace them. This is a wonderful idea. Thanks again.
So glad to see these DIY videos

She got it from Mendards. Local hardware stores have similar kinds as well.
Is it nylon or some other material?
@@emilykrahn3185 polypropylene!
Great video! I'm all about the DIY's and salvages anything I can fix myself. Keep 'em coming! I will definitely be back!
Thanks so much for stopping in, great to have you.

how is it holding up in the outdoors?

That is a great idea, it gets tangled sometimes which is a hastle.
Excellent suggestion!! Brilliant 👏 👏 THANKYOU!!

This is great! What kind of rope did you use?
I actually applied this technique on my lounch chair and I am very happy. It took me 2 days but very pleased. 😁
Thanks for a great tutorial! Love it! And I love that sweet little assistant you have there; so darn cute!: )
You definitely have me a quick fix. Thank you so much from a chick who loves sitting on my porch alone and with people!!!!
I am glad it helped you out!
Thank you. This lady was tossing the chair because the seat was destroyed but I knew there was a way! Thank you
Your very welcome.
Thank you so much for showing your actual work!!😁 You might benefit from wrapping the cord around a shuttle just like weavers do. I might try this sometime.
Nice job! Wrapping the rope on a fid would have sped this project up a great deal
Very nice! I have a few chairs I could use this idea on. Thank you!
Good luck, it was actually fun to see the outcome.
Even if you don’t like how it looks just for the strength you could always put cushions on top of them
Yes, I have cushions too and it is very sturdy.
This was just the idea/video I needed my dear old dad has some very similar metal framed garden chairs that are in need of repair and I’m all for a bit of DIY, just one question was that any kind of rope in particular or just ordinary cotton rope?
Thank you so much .. Have patio set similar painted all metal white use rope to weave seat and I am happy.
Thank you 🙏 I have to do my chairs, what yarn did you use?
I wonder if you can weave around bottom strings also so you dont have open strings underneath for anything to get hung up in them.
I really like it. What type of rope did you use. I have to fix couple of lounge chair and that looks really nice.
The end results looks nice 👍 this is a great idea🙌
Sssuu
As a DIYer I love this stuff. I will definitely be sticking around!
What kind of rope was that. Im so going to try this. I was devasted when one of my outdoor cats tore up a chair. My fiance gave it to me. 💖

Thank you.. Gonna try this for the backing on my chairs.. !! Great job!!
Looks well made!
It looks really nice but I’m confused. Did you also go around the ropes on the underside?
How did you finish the last knot?
Our chairs are almost identical. I need to see how you would fix the back of the chair. The seat is in good shape.thank you !
Do you have any suggestions for a flat rope or plastic weavble product? My chair back has a really tight space to weave through. Thanks
You could use clothes line, it is a type of plastic and there are many kinds to choose from. I would match size with the tight space. There is flat plastic but you have to order it and it is very expensive. That's why I went with rope.
You did a great job. Thank you for the tip. I have to get me some rope to try it on mine.

Hey and thanks for watching. It's a polypropylene rope and you can get it at any big box store or hardware store as well and it fairly cheap.
I’m so happy I found you!! Thank you for easy explanation!
I like your video but I would have liked to see how you ended the row and came back up to the front. Is it running in a straight line underneath or is it woven back to the front?
Brilliant! Ty for sharing, our patio set was destroyed in hail storm,
That looks pretty good. Thanks!
Thank and much appreciated.
Thank you for making this, I have a whole set that I need to do this on.
It is really easy to do. And very strong.
Where did you buy the rooe?
This is so cool love saving stuff from the trash!!
Thanks for watching.

What is that weave called please, I am in uk
Looking very nice! THANKS FOR SHARING! 🙏🏻🕊♥️
This one I feel I can do. Gonna give it a try with a nice chocolate brown or black.
Looks great! Good to know how!
What kind of rope do you use for the weave?
Awesome ! What was the rope you used?
😂🌸 I had to come and check the weave again ! Yes ,,, love this video ! I really like your channel , glad you are keeping it for now !
Any suggestions for doing a chair like this that doesn’t have a front horizontal bar?
I would try making a very tight 3 strand and use that as a makeshift bar. Might be tight enough to hold. Worth a try, let me know if it works.
Looks like a Cargo Netting style !
Looks good 💯😊 !!
Does the rope you use hold water from rain a long time. Thinking of using polypropylene rope to help.
I used polypropylene rope, it dries very quickly and doesn't dry rot.
Thank you so much for this!
are you weaving the vericals top and underside together with the single horizontal strand ?
No I didn't, but I would next time now that I kinda know what I am doing. Great idea, I wish I had thought of it at the time.
I’m about to do this and looks like a similar chair as mine. How many yards of rope did you use ? Good job on the weave!!!
What a great idea but the rope will disintegrate on las vegas hot weather. Any other choice??
I needed an idea and this looks great! Thank you!
Your so welcome, it works on loungers too.
Where do you get your rope? Looks beautiful!
I got it at menards, they have lots of colors to choose from.
You look like you’re doing good job 👏🏼!
Thank you for your kind words.
What type of rope is this and how many feet did it take to do 1 chair?
Nice😍.. what type of rope did you use ? How thick it is ?
have a 2 seater chair with roping would like to show you the knotting and weaving
Thanks for sharing. Where did you buy the rope?
I got the polypropylene rope at Menards.
You have done a fantastic job. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing skills with us 😀✌️🙏‼️

I stopped at the very back of the chair and tied it underneath so I wouldn't be seen. No special knot just a two knot, regular does fine in this case. The cushion with hid it when you put those on.
What type of string did you purchase?
It is a polypropylene rope, got it at Menard.

What kind of rope
I worry about that first knot. But the weave is good for rain not settling on the seat.
What kind of rope is that ?
Thanks for sharing.
So clever!
I have 4 chairs that are damaged and want to redo them
Great DIY video :)
