    I keep hearing people say they think Russ is gunna be the next primarch to come back but im really hoping its Vulkan. The idea that the Salamanders are trying to get all 5 pieces of exodia makes me smile

      Vulkan or Corvus and If be happy! Vulkan being summoned is a goofy plotpoint they might be dropping, but just seeing him back in general would rule.

      The Russ return is largely just assumption because he is the last of the major Chapter Primarchs left, as I am in denial that they would bring back Sanguinius, although in the books he is the only one they've really done the groundwork for. Having written that, there was nothing really to set up Lion's return in the books, so who knows. Also I think there was something somewhere that indicated that it might be Khan coming back next.
      I'm also hoping that Russ isn't coming back next as he is the only one left with the framework to generate excitement as the Wolves are a prominent entity in the current canon. Hence if Russ comes back, it is difficult to be as excited for who comes after him. However, what makes things frustrating is that GW hasn't done anything to set up the other Chapters with potential primarch returns. I mean if it was Khan to return, the Scars are such a bland force at the moment that it would be difficult for it to feel like a massive change in things.

      Does anyone else think the return of the Primarchs in general is silly/bad?

    I think I have a better chance joining the Salamanders than the Raven Guard... aside from the whole "not born on Nocturne" caveat. Traverse a dangerous hellscape, craft my own war gear and slay a honking big dragon? I'm crazy enough to do that anyway without the promise of ascending into a Space Marine.

    On a less finicky note, always great to see Salamander love popping up here. It is genuinely one of my favorite Chapters in WH40K just from how distinct, in a fun way, they feel from the rest, those communal bonds being a great example of that. Not only is it frustrating that they have been locked to one writer, especially with someone who isn't that strong of a writer like Kyme, but it's already been hit with that other GW tendency where when that one writer doesn't magically generate intrigue in the faction, they just drop putting out books with them all together. I'm assuming the sole reason it hasn't happened with the T'au yet is because it has a big enough fanbase to support it despite being locked to whatever Kelly is doing there.
    I would, though, claim that there are two other base Chapters who are also pretty strong on civilian safety, those of course being the Raven Guard and Space Wolves, although they also go about it a bit differently. Part of me feels that the Ultramarines maybe should be added here, but its a bit more varied with them.

      From all that I have read (which I know you've read more than me here lol) I think those 3 are the best examples. Space Wolves might be seen as big viking brutes but they will throw down with the fucking inquisition of all people. Ultramarines I need to read more to make a judgement. From what I have seen theyre a bit more by the book so its based on the situation. The other 3 instead make more of an effort to help at their own expense.

    • @toniviskari417
      @toniviskari417 10 місяців тому

      @@glueboy Yeah, you are completely right about the Ultramarines being a book by book situation. Or I guess story by story situation as Captain Titus from Space Marine is an example of an Ultramarine who will really commit protecting civilians while in other tales the Ultramarines are pretty casual about what counts as unnecessary risk. It is the funny thing about the boys in blue in that while they are bland, there are so many books about them by different authors that it is difficult to pin down what characteristics define a typical Ultramarine. Which somehow makes them both the most realistic Chapter out there while also the most difficult to get a handle on.
      Those three are, though, in the current setting like the unquestioned protectors, yet all in their own ways.

    Good to hear that your voice is on the road to recovery. And what better way to celebrate that than with nitpicky corrections, AKA the most WH40k fanbase thing possible.
    The Blood Angels don't actually have to walk the desert of Baal Secundus for their recruitment, all the aspirants from that moon just have to get to this one place where they will undergo the tests. It was just that Dante had to cross the desert to attend as there are almost no aspirants from the desert tribes due to that awkward needing to cross the desert part of getting there as, in a shocking twist, this approach causes the vast majority of aspirants to be either from wealthy families or places close to the testing site.
    Also on the geneseed changing the physical appearance part, I guess the Wolves are technically on the list, although that would require the writers to finally agree if they become more bestial looking as they age or not. Although, to continue on the physical appearance part, I do love how GW just can't stop tripping over themselves in trying to figure out the representation part: "See guys, not all the primarchs are white guys. For example, look at Vulkan.... Whose geneseed will literally make you dark skinned."

    • @glueboy
      @glueboy  10 місяців тому

      True that on the Blood Angels part. Misremembered it was just Dante not a whole staple of their chapter. And yeah I thought if I should include the Space Wolves. Cause I was seeing it was inconsistant and the other aspect is just the concept of the Wulfen. Which is *technically* an appearance change? A whole mutated appearance shift counts in the same way the Thousand Sons mutation would have lol.
      Also agreed. Tbh I think they should just say that the Salamanders are actually black and that's the dominant skin tone from Nocturne rather than a gene seed trait. Same deal as the White Scars. It makes zero difference but makes their lore just a bit better lol.

    • @toniviskari417

      @@glueboy On the Blood Angel part, it would almost be better if all of them had to cross the desert as it somehow feels thematically fitting, although Angel's Flight is also fun. Hopefully remembered the name of that ritual correctly. Funnily I also included Blood Angels in the list of Chapters that will protect civilians before myself remembering that too is actually a Dante thing than a Chapter belief.
      The Wolves appearance thing is actually almost hilariously inconsistent as some authors really heavily lean on how the geneseed gives the Wolves lupine features that grow stronger as they age while others just don't care at all about that aspect. I'm a huge SW fan who has read the books and I can't say one way or another.
