I built computerized Mud Logging Units, for Sperry Sun, as a Shop Tech, also in the field, I was also a Field Engineer for several companies. I worked on Baseline FID systems Total Gas and Chromatographs, as well as building my own, for about 20 years, so I am all too familiar with complete rig ups of total systems. I remember sitting on the the flow pipe near the bell nipple working on a flow out paddle sensor when the rig starting taking a kick. Luckily I had the chance to get up to the rig floor and tell the driller. Many Stories. I would never take another boat ride in 20 foot seas again though. Way to much hassle to make trips out to the Gulf for repairs, though the job was very interesting. I started in 1980, and I have been on probably more drilling rigs, platforms, jack ups, semi submersibles, and drill ship than anyone. I got to work on the Rowan Gorilla 4 before I finally called it quits.
Hello, with you a new graduate, a geological engineer. I want you to give us some information about the profession of a geological monitoring engineer, as well as information about the oil and gas company, Osco. Thank you in advance.
Hey Fernando, Thanks for your comment. I will advise you to google Mud logging companies and go to careers so you can start applying. Also if you can subscribe on LinkedIn that will great . Wish you all the Best
I am Croatian, recently I graduated and got Masters degree in Geological engineering. I am also looking to start working as mud logger. Do you have any advices on how to get a job soon?
Thanks Bro for your question. the answer will be: The Sample Catcher provides the GSS Field Specialist/Engineer trainees, also called mud loggers, with a representative collection of mud samples and cuttings and helps them in the maintenance of all the equipment installed around the rig.
Sir I am fresh graduate in geology from Pakistan, University Of Sargodha. Can u help me to guide about the interview regarding this field as I have to attend interview for this job soon.
Hey man where are you from? I am in the same position as you were back in 2018. I graduated 5 months ago and got masters degree in geological engineering. As you said, we acquire so much wide knowledge in the college and then we are confused and dont know in which direction we should go and how to apply our knowledge in real industry. I am 25 years old from Croatia and in my country there are not many possibilities to find a job as geologist. I am unemployed for the last 5 months and I am craving for a job. I started seeking opportunities on oil rigs as mud logger. Can you give me any advice on how to get a job? Some tips and tricks maybe, I would appreciate it a lot! Maybe someday we can be colleagues. Best regards and stay safe!
I have to ask another question from u sir, How can we differentiate all rocks e.g limestone, sandstone and shales. While in field we can use dilute HCL to differentiate between sandstone and limestones but what about shales. I am waiting for your answer. Thanks in advance 🥰🥰
They may use petrographic microscopes and examine thin sections of the drilled core to examine and the rock and pick out minerals present in the rock. They can also use a Scanning Electron Microscope to get the elemental composition of the sample and compare it to standard values for different rocks to know what it is.
I'm just a regular geologist, I have been working in the environmental remediation for 2.5 years although I decided to quit that. One of my old college buddies told me to come mudlog. I am really considering it, I'm not sure how the oil business is doing right now though?
The oil fields are going strong right now. Starting pay will be low, most likely as much as your making now, but with way more hours. However don't let that scare you away network with directional and mwd and try to move into that side. Don't let the mudlogging trap get you.
@@Theausomecaleb I do know that while on the rigs I just don’t log the sample we also have to keep track of gas data on a chromatograph and sometimes a mass spec. We have gamma data that gets emailed to us and we just upload that via a flashdrive. We also keep watch over the drilling parameters on the log as well.
