I saw these guys in northern Ontario in the late 70s. They were a cover band that did songs by "The Police". Hence the name Platinum Blonde. I dated an ex-gf of the original drummer when we worked in a bar in Toronto. He was crazy bad drummer.
Man - I have not seen this video since I was a teen, and a big Platinum Blonde fan. Like I joined their fan club and bought earrings they supposedly designed. Had my own Alien Shores-inspired outfit, and the first day I wore it to school, with black eye liner and teased hair, was the day boys noticed me. But I didn’t care about that because I knew I was cool. Didn’t do it for anyone else but myself. Later in the early 90’s, I would go see Kenny MacLean perform at different Toronto bars because my sister dated one of his band members. He was such a lovely person - funny, warm and welcoming. I missed my chance to say Hi to Mark Holmes though. My sister had been telling everyone at the table that I had been obsessed with the band and him, and Kenny said - Do you want to meet him? He’s right over there. And there he was, in his all-black phase, playing pool. I awkwardly croaked out No because I didn’t want sister dearest to embarrass me further in front of him, being a shy, insecure 22 year-old at the time. And apparently a dummy. He probably would have been very nice too.
i discovered this song on a Mcdonald's obby on Roblox, and to be honest, i was quite literally flabbergasted to hear such a banger song playing in the background of ROBLOX game of all things
One of my all-time fave Platinum Blonde songs from Alien Shores album. Heard it on the radio today. I even went to see them live in concert three years ago in Little Current, just months before the pandemic hits.
Omg we had the best times back then. We all had nutty hair, great clothes. Used to wash clothes at a laundry with Chris at Vaughn and St Clair. Was at the concert when they opened for Duran Duran reflex concert ..that was awsome
Yes, the 80’s were great times to be a kid. I definitely had an Alien Shores’ inspired outfit and hairstyle when I was 16. And I was at that Duran Duran concert as well - it was The Payolas who opened for them that time.
They started to lose right after their first album unfortunately. Situation Critical and Crying Over You are okay but they don't come even close to the edge and angst that Doesn't Really Matter and Standing In The Dark had. They sound more dated. Where as the latter two have such an edge to them I can't quite explain it's weird for New Wave to have such an edge like that. Weird in a good day. It made them stand out and made them stand the test of time.
@@alukuhito Maybe but it also could have been their manager/record company. I imagine in 1985 the sound of their first album wasn't considered very relevant anymore. The industry probably pushed them to become the next Duran Duran.
I can tell you as I grew up rocking in the 80's that there were dinner type jackets WITH PADDED SHOULDERS, and exotic type tiger stripe designs of a plethora of colors. Miami vice was big so Don made it fashionable in a very masculine kind of way to wear pastel colors and DAMN did THAT EVER DRAW IN THE LADIES
The 80s in Canada were incredible. Proud Canadian for sure. 🇨🇦
The good old 80's pure classic ✌

I never knew Canadian! And I loved this cassette album
I think,

Back in the mid 80s, the whole tape was played on a daily basis on the school bus's cassette player, on that long trip to our rural high school.
Great memory
Don't you miss that though? Making your own playlists on cassette tapes? Now it's just too easy but am thankful for UA-cam
Oh my God! I was thinking the exact same thing! Then I saw your name. Guaranteed you and I rode that same school bus together. Haweaters for life!
Imagine being alive in 1985 and hearing this shit play , fucking fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Loved this in 6th grade in 1987 and love it now in 2024
