“John Smith…Olympic Gold Medalist” John Smith TWO-TIME OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST. There. Fixed it for you documentary commentator. The man is a legend. He’s earned the praise.
From like 7:30 through 8:00 is all in my town. Cresco, Iowa. Home of the Crestwood Cadets....Small town with a ton of wrestling history. Proud to be a Cadet, proud to be an Iowan, proud to be an American, and damn proud to be a wrestler!
I went to Iowa in the mid 80’s. What was mid blowing then and almost as much today is other NCAA wrestling coaches were saying it was not fair that Gable kept wining. Out of all of the sports, it is my belief that wrestling is the most fair as it’s based 100% on effort/results.
The best gravitate towards the best. A huge chunk of the 80’s and 90’s Hawkeyes wanted to wrestle beyond college and who could help them better than Olympic Gold Medal winner Gable. When John Smith took the reigns at OSU, many joined him. Same goes for Brands and Sanderson. They want to learn Freestyle wrestling from the best in the world. Jay Robinson’s Minnesota was the only team I can think of in my lifetime that won NCAAs without a gold medal Olympic coach, but Jay Robinson’s teams were stacked from 125 to Hwt.
I wrestled and boxed in high school and 1 of the things that followed me for life was never let the coach out work or do more than you now I am a builder and have the same mentality but instead of coach it's boss.if you want to get that raise or next position in line whatever it is always do more and be seen doing more.more than the boss more than co-workers always more and don't cheat yourself don't brag but make sure you are seen doing more period.
They leave out Penn State and Ohio State. 2 Dominant Teams now on the collegiate level in the last 10 years as Champs and Runner Ups,, and I dont mean football either
JamesWilliam Wanke ummmm no not really Iowa is the best bc of their ability to play under pressure in the most tough environments and there known for winning every championship game they’ve been in they have only lost one championship match and that was to Nc state
Could you explain please i just love extreme competition and grappling is my shit but what are the differences just to let you know i'm no wrestiling expert i'm just trying to learn.
To be a great Wrestler you have to have a good look, wear a robe or vest to the ring, cool entrance music, good talking skills,it dosent hurt to know how to use dark magic like Undertaker and Kane, thats what makes a great wrestler!! Im just not seeing WWE material in these guys, for one they dont even have a ring, no cool entrance music or pyro, they should be practicing moves like the moonsault or toombstone piledriver, iron claw and fugure four, dont they want to go pro someday?
@edj201 Covina CA not too much wrestling history .Proud to be a Colt ,Proud to be from Cali ,Proud to be an American ,and Damn Proud To BE A WRESTLER!!!
Who says Iowa doesn't work on technique? They just don't work on technique with the same intensity as they work on their other stuff. But they know their stuff.
John Osborne no not really right now Spencer lee is an Iowa wrestler with a 2 national championships under his belt bout to make it three they have always been good
I think Gable leaving was the biggest factor. Replacing someone like that and expecting the same performance level is unrealistic. The best wrestlers in the country, the ones who want to win Olympic Gold and not just NCAA crowns, gravitate to coaches that are Olympic legends. John Smith, Tom Brands, and Cael Sanderson are names people are drawn to since they know how to win on the world level. And once the wrestling room is full of studs for training partners, it gets going for real. That’s why Cael’s PSU is so dominant today. You’re gonna leave contending for freestyle titles when you leave.
iowa style is known as mean rough basic grinder brutal high pace offense. OSU style has been called pretty boy wrestling. all finesse. getting points without having to use energy by being slick
Take it easy dude, just fucking around, come on have you ever seen the WWE South Park episode? Its hilarious check it out you will laugh you're ass off the episode is titled W.T.F.!!!!
Amatuer came 1st but it amounted to nothing more than spectator gay porn, WWE is the big leagues and these kids will never get there unless they learn how to take a steel chair shot, or learn how to escape a steel cage,or learn to shoot fire from the ring post!!!
Not Joking this is horse shit, would like to see one of these punks handle a god damned Hell In a Cell Match, or learn the dark secrets of the Undertaker to become a great wrestler
Do seriously think one of the dorks could defeat or out wrestle the Great Hulk Hogan? Hogan would drop these guys with a boot and leg drop, plus he has the power of Hulkamania on his side, these guys are ametures, how are they ever gonna make it to the big leagues the WWE if the dont learn how to wrestle in a steel cage match, or maybe practice swinging a steel chair? Or maybe a counter to the figure four leg lock, or learn how to do a pile driver or flying head butt
I am laughing at your lack of knowledge so much. World Wide Fakeness is not real. They never hit each other or anything else. What you see in this Wrestling video is the real deal.

i wish i started doing wrestling earlier...I love it.
Iowa style is going hard all the time and just being brutal, while OK state style is literally all finesse
