    If someone has a very loud grinding sound when opening and closing their jaw to the fullest extent, I'm assuming this is crepitus, and is caused by the disc and ligaments no longer being in the picture... would you recommend seeing a TMJ specialist for this even with no pain?

  • @NinoMaluri

    My jaw clicked on the right when I was eating something hard-ish. For the next 2-3 days it hurt a lot and all day. I'd notice I would subconsciously hold my lower jaw forward and open during that time. When I'd notice it, I'd put it back into normal.
    For the next 30 days my jaw hurt less and less every day. But the clicking became more and more consistent. At this point the pain was about 95% reduced.
    And now, another 30 days later, my pain is 97% reduced, but the clicking on my right side is like clockwork. If I open my jaw halfway, then move it to the right, and then move it up = click.
    If I move my jaw forward and to the right, and then move it back in maintaining the right position = click
    If I open and close my jaw normally, but I stick my index finger in my ear all the way, I can feel/hear a small click.
    My jaw ONLY clicks on the right, not on the left. I have little bursts of pain on the right that come and usually go quickly. And my clicking happens only on "open mouth halfway, move jaw to the right, move it up maintaining the right position = click", and "move lower jaw forward and right, and then retract it back in while maintaining the jaw on the right = click".
    Any ideas? I'm terrified this is just the beginning, and if I don't do something about it now, my future is dark :(

    My jaw will slightly pop or sound like I’ve shifted something in my cheek area when I move my jaw to the left. The right side of my neck, jaw, around and behind my ear are where most of my pain or pressure occurs.
    I first started experiencing symptoms a year ago, I had a constant feeling like I was slightly being choked or having to burp. On the right side of my Adam’s apple (about the area where u would take someone’s pulse) I could feel swelling and that’s where it was the most painful. During this time I was getting a lot of headaches as well and ocular pain.
    After about 6 months the pain has moved more into my cheek/jaw area where my lower back molars are. If I press on my cheek and move my jaw I can get a more pronounced grinding sound to happen. I don’t have as many headaches but still more than usual, and when I clean my right ear with a qtip I get a sharp pain in the ear canal.
    I’ve been shifting my jaw to the left constantly throughout the day for months because it feels like I can relieve some pressure by doing it. But sometimes when I shift my jaw (usually happens once or twice a week) I can hear a loud crack in my jaw area, my jaw will no longer make the grinding popping sound when I move my jaw, but now instead it sounds like someone is shredding paper in my ear. That will usually provide some relief for a few hours (despite the sound of shredding paper it’s better than pain) and then it’s back to clicking and pressure building up. It’s never happening both at the same time . Either clicking , or a loud pop followed by no clicking and paper shredding noises.
    I’m sorry for the long post I’m hoping someone reads this and I tried to be as detailed as possible so that others might see it who’ve had similar issues or dr priya. Thank you so much for your time in reading
    Edit: I’m also posting here because financially It’s hard for me to see all these drs/dentists without coming away with any results. I’d appreciate some guidance or suggestions on what steps I should take to diagnose myself or find the root of my problem once again thank u so much if you’re reading this

    Hi Priya... Thank you for your informative channel... I wish I could fly from South Africa to make an appointment with you...
    I do have a question... My jaw is clocked closed (right side) due to me clenching for a few days when I had severe pain due to an ear infection... I am currently getting physiotherapy and its helping tremendously with the pain and bad inflammation. I'm also able to open much wider... My question is, I can feel my condyle move on my left side, but cannot feel it on my right... Is this due to the inflammation?
    Both my ears are also clogged and weird fluttering noises in my ear. (I do have tinnitus in my right ear, same side where the jaw is closed locked and the ear infection side. Doctor said I have middle ear fluid in that ear).
    I'm not a clencher or grinder, this just happened for a few days due to the severe ear pain.

    I have popping and clicking. CBCT and MRI were both unremarkable. I do have crepitus in the left joint space. This is constant. I don't think I have joint pain. I do, unfortunately, have muscle pain. Mainly in the masseter and lateral pterygoid muscles. I do grind at night. I was also diagnosed last month with OSA. Still waiting on the machine. I've noticed that the pops, clicks, and crepitus become more frequent when I have a muscle flare-up. Any idea as to what might be causing this?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  Рік тому +2

      When the muscles flare up, they also tighten, particularly a small muscle that attaches to the articular disc. When that muscle tightens up, it will pull the disc out of alignment which will in turn cause increased clicking, popping, and even jaw locking.

    • @_jmeg_3436
      @_jmeg_3436 Рік тому +1

      @@theTMJdoc Ah. So, you could have an otherwise healthy joint and disc but if the muscles of mastication are in a spastic state, they can pull on the disc and bring it out of alignment?

    Is it normal to have crepitus from TMJ in the neck when turning the neck to the right? The sound I hear seems to be coming from the sub occipital area or somewhere in that area, it’s kind of hard to tell.
