The origins of this song lie in the Krainlander and Kärntner regiments from the regions of present day Southern Austria and Upper Slovenia. The original form of this was actually written in the now somewhat less spoken Carniolan-Carinthian dialect, but it’d been adapted to German so that it could be intelligible to most of the army ^^
Edit:Interestingly, the description of the soldier wearing a green bouquet on his hat is a very fitting description of the regimental uniforms of the Carinthian troops, more specifically the Jägers

Lydia Köffler they do indeed! But that specific Carinthian-Slovene dialect is spoken only by a handful of people. Kärnten continues to have very rich ties with the Slovene ethic groups, and there are more people speaking pure Slovenian rather than in the more colloquial Carinthian-Slovene dialect.

I thought the green bouquet might be a reference to the imperial field sign, going back to before the 30 Years' War - a sprig of green oak leaves worn on the hat. By the Napoleonic wars, the green oak leaves were attached behind the black-yellow cockade at the top front of the shako. In WW1 they were attached on the left side of the cap.

Since you seem to be trying to understand the german lyrics I would, if I may, discuss the translation in this Video.
The translation of "mein bursch" as "my comrade" is a bit odd in this context as it seems the person singing is a bystander witnessing a military parade.
Therefore I would suggenst translating "mein bursch" as "my son" since I believe the singer is recognising his son in the mass of soldiers going into (and later returning from) war due to the "Strauß" on his hat. Also I'm not sure about the translation of "Strauß" as "Bouquet" as this would only be correct if it was indeed flowers that he had attached to his hat (rather than feathers or something) but I don't know that much about the uniforms of the time so I'm not sure on that one.

Ist das die selbe, oder ähnliche abgeänderte Melodie vom Steigerlied? Hört sich teilweise sehr ähnlich an. Vorallem Die Strophen.
