Good info for folks doing their own installs. Can't believe how bad some electrical installs are. I like the Auxbeam switch panel but I would be concerned about it failing which would mean I lose all those function in one hit. I spent many years as prototype engineer with military vehicles and airport fire trucks. Each time we added more tech we got more reliability issues. Good practice to use conduits etc where cables are vulnerable. That run of conduit needs clipping though as it can still vibrate and move which although unlikely to chafe the wires inside, it can cause accelerated work hardening of the copper which you don't want. Basic rule of thumb is to make sure all cables are clipped, saddled etc and cannot move. If they can move they can chafe or work harden then fail. Edge protection and gentle swept bends are also very important. Keep up the good videos👍
Thanks Rich, you have reminded me I need to change my PWM controller to a good quality MPPT controller, and swap my AGM battery to a lithium battery in my camper. Cheers, Ken
@@Bugoutvehiclesuk - Just the opposite Rich. In Australia we are now moving into Summers longer daylight 😄👍 But summer means more camping, so it is the right time for me to upgrade. 😃
I have similar in my ambulance conversion, it has 40 switchable channels, fitted when it was converted, very handy bit of kit , if i didn't already have it i would go for a couple of those auxbeam units 👍 they simplify things a lot !
Less stress when you don't have to worry about if your batteries are charged enough. What a game changer. Good info on fuses, I'm a firefighter here in the states and I've seen more than one car catch fire because the owner did some mods and didn't do it correctly. It's amazing how quick wires will chafe and short out. Good video.
Very good video all made sense, and I am a electrical Numpty ,struggle with electrical installations, in the 110, safety being the main issue, has to be safe , looks very good system, thanks.
Cable management lets you display competence to people who know. It’s been 30+ years since I did my amateur radio licence, and I got to see some homemade kit with beautiful cable forming inside. I began emulating it. With covers on there’s nothing to see but once opened up everything is formed into a proper loom. I despair of the rats nest behind my TV and PC though. Nothing stops those plaiting themselves together.
I highly agree Rich. Copex protection for wires is highly needed when doing wiring systems for campers and Overland vehicles. My biggest pet peeve as a former technician was guys installing their own stuff and using improper wire connectors and not organizing their wiring so its all a spaghetti mess to hunt through. Here in the states when guys wire up winches and stuff I always went a grade higher than recommended for cabling. Double 0 cable was the best choice for running winch cabling for rear mounted winch connections. Double 0 is comparable to welder lead wiring for stick welding. I also used the kits to make my own cable ends. Simply drop in a solder pellet into the terminal ends, heat with a torch, stick in the cable to the terminal, and do the crimp with the supplied tool. Once my back heals I should do a video on doing this. I find after you hit your 40's the body doesn't bounce back from injuries as they used to.
Looks a great bit of kit! Copex is a great idea, you've got air around the cable to help it keep cool, cables run in insulation it down rates the current rating of the cable
I love that your comment asks me if I want to translate it into English haha. Hope you’re well. Might be looking at a build like yours of my own in the next few years. Fingers crossed!
Cracking detailed video Rich, do like that switch panel, thinking I may have to invest in something like this when the defender goes and we start building a van out 👍
As usual, lots of good and helpful information !! Very well explained. I would save some weight, and keep the redundancy, by having 2 batterys, but with a lower amperage !! Still taking notes ... I´m thinking about sending you the bill !!! ahahahahahahah ... Good job Sir Rich, as usual !! Cheers
Great video Rich. I work for a BMS firm so anything electric gets my interest (as well as being a big Landy fan). What’s the plan when the DAF is done, use Edna for uk stuff and the DAF for overland?
Thanks. I needed this 👍👍
Give me a shout if you need to know anything and I will see what I can do.
Hw did u get started with the bug out veacull

Worth doing before the long nights come.

Thanks for another good video mate and I like the tip re using jump cables due to their high current capacity!
amen to the electrical safety...seen too many burned out trucks on fire because of crap installations.
Thanks for the tip off Rich, I've been re-doing the solar setup and a rewire on my show van, I just purchased an AUXbeam with your discount code

Hi Rich
Great to meet you the weekend, hope you had a good show
It was a short visit so I only got to see about half with the time I had but was good to meet up with so many.
It’s the dark art again. Fantastic rich you make it sound so easy. Just need to buy the vehicle now.lol…

That’s why I like this. Big fuss supplies the board and little fuses on the panel for individual items.
@@Bugoutvehiclesuk thanks for that 👍

Hi Rich great video double the length double the residence very well presented keep the vids coming mate 👍🏻🏴
Thanks Geoff
Just watching this Makes me want one of those auxbeam’s. No idea what I’d use one with so many buttons for on my hilux but y’know.. treats 🤷🏼♂️🤣
Really helpful and informative, at least someone knows what they're talking about!
Well the verdict is still out on that hahahaha. I know there are ppl that know a lot more but the amount of really bad stuff out there worries me.
@@Bugoutvehiclesuk I know, you see some stuff that is just so likely to got up in flames
So,,,, solar can be simple, cheers, well done 👍🏼

Well done Rich, always good to see what others do and what new kit is available,
Thanks Roy

Top video mate very help full as I am a bit of a that will do type of guy but that set up makes so much more sense 👍👍
Most of the time that will do works. It’s that one time on the motorway when it short it pays to take a little longer.
@@Bugoutvehiclesuk that it need to stop and as you said in the video take that little bit more time and do a proper job boss video mate

Great video Rich very well explained and informative, tidy job done on Edna 🤙👍, is there somewhere I could buy a bug out sticker.
Not got the new ones done yet mate. I’m trying to get a few done so it’s worth the cost of posting them.
No bother I'll get them when they're ready thanks mate 👍
