- Today I am covering the full story of one of the most interesting characters in Power Rangers history, Astronema. The series villain from Power Rangers In Space. She of course later goes on to become the Pink Lost Galaxy Ranger. Really hope you enjoy this one!

Karone was one of the most compelling villainesses ever. The internal conflict within her psyche and atrocious acts she commited as Astronema but her willingness to atone for the evil she did makes her one of the best engaging characters of PR ever. She deserved to be the 2nd Galaxy Pink Ranger because her heart was always pure but just corrupted by evil not of her fault.

Karone - a former villain Astromena who is redeemed into the 2nd Pink Lost Galaxy Ranger and she is badass.
20 years later, I am still wondering why the energy weapons of Lost Galaxy soldiers were completely useless against the villains 😅. Couldn't the humans reverse engineer some of the hero / villain weapons...

Not going to lie, when Karone became the Pink Galaxy Ranger, she became one of my childhood crushes.

That cleavage though, haha. Joking aside about how revealing her top was. She was one of my favorite pink rangers. Seeing the main villain in the previous season making up for her past deeds was one of the coolest things.

Karone is probably my favorite Pink Ranger. Definitely the most interesting arc I’ve seen for a Pink Ranger.
As much as I like Kendrix, I would've loved even more if Karone had appear earlier in Lost Galaxy and had her inner conflict of being a Ranger while dealing with all the things she dead as Astronema be the center of her story, constantly questioning if she's worthy of the Pink Quasar Saber.
I wish they would had did that. That's the only problem I hate about PR! They could had did so much more, but the writers aren't that great.
Considering they had to pivot the story at the last minute, I'd say they did it pretty well. Patricia Ja Lee left the set after they filmed The Power of the Pink after learning she would kept being paid as a guest star, not as also starring cast member. Hence why they filmed the morphed scene where they leave Astro Megaship. Fortunately Melody Perkins was available and had to be on set like in 2 days or something.
Definitely one of the best story arcs and character developments in Power Rangers. The corrupted hero/redeemed villains is a classic and powerful plot.
"I love being a Power Ranger", that simple line that she says during the Legendary Battle (I think it's in the extended version) sums her up perfectly.
Always loved the development of her character, from one of the most powerful villainess of all time to arguably being the one that adapted the most quickly to being a Power Ranger.
Yes, it in the extended version. The normal version showed only a few legendary ranger putting their helmets on.
One of the most well written villains of the series. And has one hell of a sexy walk.
Honestly, you wouldn't expect such a deep well considered character like Karone. And they really made good use of traits in her background to enable such complicated character growth and storylines.
She is so brilliant,and your right she definitely is one of the most important characters,she’s good at being good and good at being evil
Ah Karone! She’s my favorite female character franchise wide! Her transition from villainess to heroine is so compelling to watch. I hope she and Zhane got a chance to give their relationship a second try.

actually a popular fan theory is that when Zordon was destroyed his good energy is what revived and restored Karone. They probably just had it take some time to kick in for dramatic affects
Zordon's good energy wave turned made to loose her evil Powers(making Karone good).
Astronema is also one of my favourite characters. She was one of the few main villains to engage the power rangers in direct combat, which shows how capable she was as a fighter and her powers.

I thought that she played both parts really well. From evil villain to hero seeking redemption... Too bad that she didn't get the chance to fight alongside her brother.
That's the big question I had. Why the rangers from the previous series only show up once in Lost Galaxy. They were obviously capable of joining forces any time they wanted

Karone turned evil again, because she went to Dart Fortress to stop an asteroid from hitting earth. She disguise herself as Astronema, however, she wouldn't have turned evil, if she and Andros morphed to try to stop the asteroid. Andros would've defend his Karone, and him and Karone would've had the chance to leave.
Melody Perkins and Willem Dafoe have managed to portray mental conflicts and dueling personalities in their characters ever so beautifully!

I love Karone. She is one of my all time favourites. Loved her as the princess of darkness, and love her now.
I recall there was a Power Rangers comic where Karone willingly submits herself to be judged by the intergalactic court where everyone including Doggie Cruger who were victims of her atrocities as Astronema spoke against her, and judge her guilty which she would have accepted it.
Unfortunately, Andros and his friends intervened and tried to defend her before the court. They used a fake Astromena construct to appear and claim she split away from Karone when the Z-Wave hit her and all the Power Rangers villains before attacking everyone and get "destroyed" by the security forces, absolving Karone.
Karone was not happy when she found out.
You got that right and if I remember correctly it led her down and to the Psycho Path.

I read this comic. And Psycho Path too.
I hated it. They totally ruined Andros, turning him into sort of a jerk.
That made me furious, Andros being my favorite Power Rangers character.
She was one of my favorites.
We all just love Karone’s entire redemption story, she more than erased the demons of being Astronima by stepping up recovering the pink quasar saber and helping out galaxy rangers as the pink ranger.
Thank you so much for doing this amazing video on Astronema/Karona. Her story was indeed a great one that start off in a villainstic way,but then turns into a story of redemption. I guess that is why she is actually one of my favorite Pink Power Rangers.

I think the reason why In Space was so good because i felt like they had nothing to lose and was fighting to stay on the Air. at this point Power rangers was losing momentum, and cancellation was a reality cause they truly thought they were getting canceled. they wanted to go out with a bang and boy they did. even now in 2022 in space for me is the best season it was almost perfect. the story of Andros and Astromena is heart breaking the emotions that they took you on he found his sister only to lose her again to evil to having to battling her and ultimately seeing her end at the hands of her own weapon. to have her revive and they can finally be a family. the only other power ranger to have this much character development i think is Cassie in Jungle Fury.
I said the same. I wish they did. As a kid growing up you would appreciate it more tho. But I know it's more for children
It is interesting how Karone decided to try and kill Dark Spekter even with her full mind controlled by Dark Spekter
The thing is if Astronema did killed Dark Spector then that means the entirety of the United Alliance of Evil (Rita and Lord Zedd, Master Vile, Count Dregon, Divatox, Elgar, Porto, Rygog, Darkonda, the Machine Empire, General Havoc, Rito, Goldar, Scorpina, Lokar, etc.) now serve her so that was a huge ambition for her.
Just had a random thought this morning but you should do a strongest of every color ranger series. So like strongest Red, strongest Blue, strongest Yellow. It may be a bit subjective but i’d be interested in seeing a series like that!
Melody Perkins in full Astronema garb could get it! She’s still one of my favorite villains(ever) not only because I think she’s hot but also because of how much depth her character has and her backstory!
It's been a years since I last watched Power Rangers, and after recently coming across your channel, I've been planning to start re-watching it when I have a good amount of free time. I just need to find somewhere with more than 3 or 4 seasons. I still have a few VHS tapes that I watched over and over, and the Lost Galaxy and in Space ones were some of favorite episodes to re-watch.

Star Wars influence, but probably the X Files also and Mulder's quest for Samantha. Only difference is, Andros found his sister live and well.
Karone's story is the most important and developed one, af all Power Rangers that went from bad to good, like Thomy and Kat. It was interesting seeing her dealing with identity crises and guilt after she was no longer Astronema. Also seeing her fight against Trakeena, no more like a Buffy because she lost her Astronema powers that enhanced her strength and fighting.

I would love to see an interaction between Karone and Tenaya from RPM.
It's too bad they couldn't do that during Shattered Grid, but they got so much right in that ark, there are no complaints.

PR in Space is the best PR. it has the quirks and style of the original, a solid story, builds on the original timeline, etc. Other series all feel very "alternative universe" to me, and those types of things never rank as high for me, I am a sucker for a built in history and story sequence.
Ecliptor is one of my favorite PR characters also.
I love Astronema. A great Goth bi anti-hero. Karone and Astronema are two souls after her chip’s removed. Karone transforms and has Astronema’s powers and armor or she switches to her when wants or needs to. She’s in God-Mode now!
Karone doesn't have her Astronema powers anymore.

Astronema and Gamora of the MCU are practically the same character from a writing perspective.
These are some similarities both have in common;
*They were kidnapped as kids and raised to be ruthless hunters by villains (Darkonda,Thanos)
*The villains (Ecliptor,Thanos) act as fatherly figures.
*They both come from conquered worlds.
*They both have an antagonistic relationship with a sibling (Andros,Nebula).
*They eventually become allies with those siblings.
*They turn from the side of evil and join a team of galactic heroes (Galaxy rangers,Guardians of the Galaxy).
*They both die in the finales; only to come back to life in some way.
I resonated with Karone’s story because it reminds me of the Force Captain Adora/ She-Ra story arc. Not a coincidence I’m sure being that Saban/Levi were part of that incredible series as well- I loved seeing a live action play out and it definitely made for a great character arc
I like it when Karone made up for her past transgressions as Astronema. Andros would be proud of his sister for becoming a Power Ranger.
Both yet neither. I love the idea that both Karone and Astonama could exist at the same time like in the Psycho Path.
And if Boom ever flushes that story out more, they should use Psycho Green as the main villain and force both In Space and Psycho rangers to have to work together to defeat him and save Karone's life.

I like how the Boom continuity made Astronoma responsible for the Kruger-Grumm conflict. Helps tie the events of Space/Lost Galaxy to SPD in a way that feels more natural than anything the TV show has done thus far.

For me Dark Spector’s Revenge onward is where Astronema was at her best, not only was the red hair in my opinion the coolest she’s ever looked but her now being brainwashed and controlled by the cybernetic implants gave her a cold, highly intimidating personality
I think the Astronema/Karone storyline was dope!!! I like that she was a bad guy who was originally good and turned good again and then for Power Rangers Lost Galaxy Karone had the opportunity to make up for her wrongs by being the Pink Ranger if that's not a dope Redemption storyline I don't know what is.
I'm not sure if this is canon but it is more head canon for me is when she was installed with bionic parts to shut off her emotions, I think it backfired on Dark Spector cause she held no loyalty to anyone and ultimately became her reason for trying to drain him with the psycho rangers.
I still feel like if the budget was there, We'd have gotten Lokar instead of Dark Specter as the ultimate evil in Space.

The bad wigs notwithstanding, Astronema was my fav PR villain. Aside from being cute & a powerful fighter, Astronema's story arc is what made her my fav. While Karone's ok, I prefer Astronema, but only when she's a "reluctant villain" & not the cheesy "big boss" like Rita or Zed (who would've been more interesting if they had a story arc exploring their origins & showing them actually battling Rangers).
Omg, I totally agree! Those wigs were SO bad but damn was she pretty regardless! I remember looking up to her when I was younger and that's funny considering she started off as a villain 😂
@@pa5666 So true. What made it worse was the constant switching from 1 bad wig to the next. They should've just kept Astronema in either the dark blue or the curly blonde wig, so we could get used to a single look (like Rita), instead of making her "A-Wig-A-Ma". 😂 She was an interesting character & probably the "villain" that they spent the most time on developing & exploring her past. I just wished they did the same for villains like: Rita, Zed, Goldar, Scorpina, Darkonda, & Ecliptor (who were the most interesting to me). .

When she first turned good during In Space, I liked her better as Astronama. But then Lost Galaxy put her back in tight leather rather than that terrible jumpsuit, so I got to like Karone just as much.
I do like her mannerisms as Astronama though... "That was impressive. DESTORY THEM!"

She is the most iconic villain in all of Power Rangers. Brought us the Psycho Rangers and literally came close to taking over the entire universe. I love how she actually fought the Rangers herself. Her weapon was awesome, her base was awesome, her main minions were awesome. She will never be outdone. I wish she became evil again and takes over another PR series!!!
I wish her evil power returns again but use it for good. And it would be cool if the Psycho Rangers would be redeemed and be the heroes of a series lol
Power rangers in space is definitely the best PR series for me..... The storyline is so unique and the character development is so amazing especially Andros, karone and Zhane....In space really proved that Power rangers is not just a kids show but something more than that.... And now probably after Jungle fury, the power rangers series is no longer interesting

I've heard that they were planning to have her join the In Space Rangers as a Power Rangers-original Purple Ranger. I wish they had actually done it.
That would be cool if she actually got the chance to become the Purple in Space Ranger, and for Darkonda or Ecliptor to create the Physco rangers. So that Karone would then become the 2nd Pink Galaxy Ranger. Karone would then have two Ranger forms(In Space Purple and Lost Galaxy Pink)

I wish you added the part about what happened to Astronima/Karone in the comics If you didn't know that's fine cuz you have covered content on your channel about power rangers stories from the comics I just wish you added that little detail it's I got a man that story was a bit complicated and it may have rubbed some people the wrong way in certain aspects but I think that people should hear about it if you're doing a whole video on her character.

If you think about it if Karone wasn't kidnapped she wouldn't become Astromena. Also if Karone wasn't kidnapped would Andros have become Red Space ranger?
Now the real question is how did Andros and Zhane got their powers? Zordon did left Earth at the beginning of Turbo, my guess is Zordon either recruit them and gave the Space powers to them or Eltar the place Zordon is going was the location where Andros and Zhane had their powers since it was explain in PRiS that Zhane and Andros did become Power Rangers for several years, that means around the time Tommy and the other guys were Power Rangers on Earth, Zhane and Andros are probably in Space fighting other evil space army.
@@VOANhow they got we'll never know, but as to when they got their powers, my guess it had to be the eariest, when the earth rangers had the ninja powers or the lastest when they had the zeo powers. I can't see Andros and Zhane getting their powers during Turbo.
Yes. After Andros, Zhane, and Karone's home planet got attacked. Zordon made Andros and Zhane power rangers. However, if Karone wasn't kidnapped she would become Zordon would've made Karone a Power Ranger too.
Zhane, Andros, and Karone's home planet got attacked, that's why Zordon gave Adros and Zhane Ranger Powers. However, if Karone didn't get kidnapped Zordon would've gave her ranger powers too. Andros, Zhane, and Karone would be Rangers(Andros as the Red In Space, Zhane as the Silver In Space, and Karone as the Purple In Space Ranger).

Her storyline coupled with the Psycho Rangers, are exactly why in Space is the greatest season released, in my opinion

For myself I'd say if Karone had not been a villain first like Tommy anwas they both had a fantastic redemption story and proved why they were chosen by the Morphin masters to be rangers if that was missing or never shown it wouldn't mean much to the overall story nor would they have become as loved by us fans as they are there is something about the villain become the hero it always makes me cry maybe because I see parts of myself in them that's what makes power rangers so special

Basically the Prince Zuko archetype before Prince Zuko. The actress definitely has range. But definitely a better villain as she had more clever one-liners. In Space could've probably done well with 2 more episodes two-thirds the way thru the season. That could probably go for Lost Galaxy as well maybe, even though I found it super boring and barely watched that season.
