people will not appreciate this rendition.....this song.....willie's work....as much as it all deserves until it's too late to thank him......this man is one of the greatest musicians ever. period.
Man...that is so sublime! The garbage that PRESUMES to call itself country today, does not hold one SINGLE solitary drop of wax from a candle to this song, or this entire era of songs, country music and otherwise! Music is definitely NOT created equal! Some music, such as this song and performance, is simply better than most others. And especially those of the past 30+ years of country music. Where did we go wrong!!
@@Texasbluestunes (1) Thing is, the music industry made far more sales back then, especially relative to the lower population, than they do now. I think it's more a matter of loss of cultural/musical talent and taste and most of all a wholesale and mostly intentional lowering of the standards.

@@DUCKDUCKGOISMUCHBETTER that’s putting it precisely. I agree. I saw Merle Haggard in a video where he said he was told by a radio station manager that they don’t want music that makes people think. Certainly over time substance of any kind goes out the window.
I went down to Texas from here in Missouri a few years ago to meet a friend of mine from California. And i said it was good to be back in the land of Bob Wills. And he didn't know who i was talking about. I told him to ask his Aunt Lucy (91 years old) and he said awww she wouldn't know who he is. And I said "Aunt Lucy have you heard of Bob Wills ?" And she said "Well Yes ! I've still got all his records, did you want to hear one?" No real point i'm making except My friend always knew everything.
I recently broke up with my girlfriend. she had been really hurt by her last boyfriend, and although she had some serious issues, she truly was an angel to me. she wrote me a letter today stating i taught her that she could be truly loved, so in a sense i patched her broken wings. i guess love truly is the greatest healer. i had a really hard time ending it with her even though it had to be done, but watching her "fly away" as we both knew had to happen, i know everything is going to be okay...
Lord, I love this song to no end! My ex in Texas used to jam with Willie in the old days and played at Willie's first picnic. My ex does an awesome job at playing and singing this song and the others too, but he used to sing this for me cause he knew how much I love it. Thank you ex for some of the good memories, and thank God for Willie!!
What a remarkably true voice Willie has. He doesn't get enough credit for it, probably because of his country twang, but I think he has an awesome singing voice.
I wouldn't really call it country twang. It's not in the idiom of the bluegrass style or hank, or any of the Nashville singers. It's simply 'thin' with a fair amount of nasal resonance. There is very little 'put on' stylistically, simply his natural singing voice.
this is engraved on our daughters tombstone...would've been 25 last Wednesday but committed suicide may 3rd this year. may God bless and keep you baby girl!! Happy Birthday Courtney! We miss you SO much and can't wait to see you again... love, Dad

Beautiful song. The movie doesn't get much acknowledgement, but it's one my favorite "musicals". I've seen it many times, and enjoy it and the music in it just as many times. Thank you for posting this song.
best version hands down. you hear other versions and you can tell the band is mailing it in. this one is money. each instrument each musician and just the right tempo.
Great movie! Thanks for posting the video! I bought the vinyl album when it came out and it is still played in our house! He did forget his words here in Oregon at a concert I seen him at with this song, but as always Willies fans are his fans!

He's Willie Nelson drunk or not, this song is the best thing on earth and no matter how many times I hear it wherever it is, this song will never suck. Get a grip this is one of the best songs in the world!
Im a huge metalhead but I love Willie! He is one of my! favorite musicians of all time. What Im trying to say is that it doesnt matter what you listen to because Willie will always be one of the greatest, even if you love metal or rap or ANYTHING Willie will always be the best and I believe everyone can agree nomatter what their style of music is! Long live Willie Nelson!
This song was written by a German maiden. An American ace was shot down and she nursed him back to health. He stole her heart when he had to leave...truly a passionate song...
I went to Willie Nelsons' concert in Montreal, Quebec last night with special guest Ray Price. After waiting a full 2 months with the tickets in my hands wishing for time to fly as quick as possible to finally see The Legend. Little did i know how disapointed i'd be today. The sound was awful we could hardly hear the music let alone the voices of 2 of the GREATEST LEGENDS. And its sad to think they'll never pass this way again.. ..
God Bless You Mike....I hope this song brings you comfort...We played Willie's version of "Georgia" at my daddy's funeral...it was his favorite song...
I have two friends who played with Willie, the late string player Paul Buskirk and tsong writer, Freddy Powers. I have seen Willie hundreds of times. I have never seen him drunk on stage. He is well known for his enjoyment of another intoxicant. To my knowledge he never goes on stage stoned. He hates cocaine and is famous for his, "You're wired...you're fired" statement. About the only time I have ever seen Willie less than perfect is when he is forced into using a house PA.
my wife had a bad first marrage and i always try to request this song for her when we go out. i always hoped i patched up her broken wings. love this song
Thank you WIllie for your music. You've been a great friend to so many. And Thank you dyno for sharing this video! And thank you youtube for providing this service for free. And thank you mom and dad for your musical influences!
I live by this song and I just wanted to say Mahalo (that's thank you in Hawaiian)! My braddah you have good taste! He always melts my heart when I hear him sing this song, but this is the first time I ever saw him sing it big thank yous my braddah, I cannot wait to see in high quality with stero sound!
To my beautiful friend Kenny. Thank you for patching my wing, staying by my side while I healed, and giving me your blessing to fly. You are always on my mind and will never leave my heart. I love you....Your Angel.
This song will forever remind me of my ex-girlfriend. She was mentally unstable when I met her but I stayed with her anyways, always kinda knowing it couldn't last. She broke it off in the end and she's with another guy now. I miss her sometimes but this song helps me cope. Willie Nelson is a beautiful soul.
I remember when honeysuckle rose was released. my then wife and I went to watch the movie and liked this song the most. I met willie in 1980 at harrahs in lake tahoe after a performance. i met him again in 1994. He is a class act
I saw him in concert the year this video was made(1980?). He was with Waylon Jennings. He was amazing then and still is. He is one of the few who sound the same in concert as they do on their albums. I love that. Can`t stand it when they change songs for the shows.
Willie you are without a doubt one of the true greats. Thank you for all the pleasure your songs have given me over the years. This is my all time favourite.
Remember seeing him in Gainesville Florida many years ago with my parents. I'll never forget the sound of his voice and his guitar. Brings back a lot of memories.
We hung out with him at his bus after a concert in the 1980s...great to talk with. Band was great and personable too. We don't agree with his politics but love his music. Happy 87th Willie~
He's almost 80 now, no cancer or heart disease, yet people still think marijuna is harmful. it's my favorite version of him singing this song... I've searched for years and finally found it, just now 🎯
