Palomino is a small village located on the tropical north coast of Colombia. As Palomino is situated in the north of Colombia, the rugged, untouched beaches are made up of volcanic sand, coconut trees and bamboo shacks, met by an alluring, aqua coloured ocean, otherwise known as the Caribbean Sea.
Before arriving in Palomino Colombia, we knew we would love it, hence why we were so excited to get there. Something so enchanting about Palomino is it’s proximity to Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the worlds highest coastal mountain range which is inhabited by four ethnic tribes - Kogi, Arhuaco, Wiwa and Kankuamo.
If you are traveling in Colombia and looking for a slightly more ‘off the beaten path’ destination to visit, Palomino is the place for you. With it’s stunning natural beauty made up of high mountain peaks, freshwater rivers and beaches that can only be defined as paradise, Palomino is a small village with a huge amount to offer.

i just went to palomino within the past 6 months and everyone talked about how it used to be - this is incredible. Today Palomino and basically all of the northern coast line going further north east has eroded to the point that there is no longer a beach. Sad - hopefully something is done to reverse it.

Ha ha. Love the in-bus entertainment. I think they need to put a watch your step sign in the pool. The accommodations looks nice and I love that they incorporate the four elements.

Yep when you were describing the place I thought "That sounds like Pai!" and then you said it! I looks like the coolest place. And you already had my attention, just talking about the vibe of the town, and then I saw the beach and I was like OMG! Definitely on my list for when I get to Central America!!
Those kids are so cute too. And the tubing looked awesome!

After watching some of your vlogs I definitely think this is somewhere you'd love to stay for a little while! It's a very relaxed little place with not a lot going on but it's so beautiful. :)

I want to go! Looks awfully hot. Hard to use that WiFi with those temperatures, I imagine. Hope you're wrong about it getting overrun in the next few years.

I know, it's a difficult decision though. On one hand we'd love to keep it a special little secret but on the other hand, tourism is providing opportunity to so many families in Palomino. We met and stayed with locals who wouldn't be able to put food on the table without tourism. The way I see it is that tourists need to help maintain a balance and enjoy palomino responsibly, without turning it into another party destination. Not an easy task but I believe the tourism professionals in Palomino are doing a good job of promoting responsible and eco-tourism to attract a certain kind of traveler, people who are more inclined to understand and respect the culture as well as give back in a positive way. What do you think?
