When I am working cattle or jiongling horses I really don't have a need to do anything with nose, poll or neck. reins are for getting out of the barn in the morning and back in at night and the rest of the day my horse reacts to my head, core, seat and legs. eventually you get the idea that your horse just read your mind and "control" passes from all importance

Growing up, we had a gelding who was trained in neck reining. Its been my favorite style but he was also a great horse so we didnt have to worry about him being so out of control with speed
I have been riding for 60+ years lucky for me my parents made me take lessons when I was young my biggest pet peeve is as I began teaching people going out and buying their kids or themselves a horse beyond their abilities I would love to see a video you may have one I haven’t seen on how to pick the right horse for the rider Apache seems to be a very forgiving good boy who also knows how to work off the leg and flex and do the things he needs to do I have a horse one of my favorite horses I’ve had them over 10 years as a three year old fire water flit bred that was given to a 14 year old with no lessons and no trainer they had me come see the horse because he was shaking his head a lot and her father wanted me to figure out why this horse was so bad and that he bought a lemon she wanted to be a barrel racer and watching barrel racers oh she saw was spur Yank spur yank I told daddy it was his fault for buying a 14 year old a three year old and no training I said to him I’ll buy the horse from you he’s too much for her and take your money and get her some lessons it’s your fault daddy just because you can buy one doesn’t mean you should it took quite a while to teach him he wasn’t going to get yanked anymore but I’ve had him going on 11 years now and he is my baby
I just got a gelding 2 weeks ago. He has been so great and when I rode him out in the field today and ran I had to use so much strength to hold him back when running and just to stop him . Had never ran him before so I didnt know what to expect and we were on 40 acres . So what happens when you get this part down in confined space then you run out in an open field ? I've got to learn this stuff !

This is a great video and I'm going to start implementing this with my horse. He definitely likes to increase his speed all the time and I know I'm guilty of using the reins too much. I think this will help us both. Thank you!

I tryed to get him bitless but he actually prefers his snaffle bit. He refuses to go forward in a bitless but put it back in and he great.

Ryan, this is very helpful. In the beginning when you were getting him softer, did u keep constant pressure on the inside rein and leg? Or pulsing?
LOL Noooo, I've NEVER controlled the speed with my hands. lol Just all the time. Are you saying not to pull back on the reins when stopping?

When he leans on you, and you squeeze with your spurs, if he were to respond by breaking into canter or faster trot, how would you respond to that? Still ride him faster or use the turning maneuver?
If that were to happen, I would use less leg and pick up the reins more and hold. 👍🏽👌
Imagine getting in a car with no steering wheel not shifter, no gauges... most people know what they expect therie cars to do and they know all the gizmos in the car and the feel of it that tell them they are ok..But they insist on getting on a horse when they have no wheel, no shifter and no guages and blame the horse because the human feels unsafe...it really is as common as it is stupid.
