One of the TOP 5 most awesome female voices in Country Music! She ranks right up there with Kitty, Loretta, Patsy, Tammy, and Connie! Nobody has to "guess' who's singing when you hear her voice. A wonderful stylist and artist! Have been blessed to see her in concert several times and she's just gotten better as the years went by! Glad the Hall of Fame finally wised up!

I have loved Jean for over 50 yrs. I remember playing her songs all day, while in the Coast Guard , stationed on a lighthouse . Such a plain and simple voice , but yet so convincing a message. Thank you for posting this song , and allowing me to relive years gone bye.

We have lost another great pioneer of real country music and what it should sound like. She did a lot for female country singers when it was pretty much an "old boys club" back in the fifties.

Love Jean Shepard. Always have, always will. And beaulahland59 has it right. The new ones coming up should go back and listen to Jean, Patsy Cline, June Webb,Kitty Wells ect. In higher resolution video of this performance its clear to see Jean is looking under stress. She had been in depression a very long time after experiencing the nightmare of losing her husband Hawkshaw in a plane crash in 1963. She didn't want to sing anymore, a family friend of hers talked her into returning to doing it again. Performing helped her return to being happy again.

I gave my girl a sunflower, she hugged me dearly. We were 4 and 5 years of age. So many years ago, I found that sunflower pressed between pages of her journal. Yes, the tears did fall.
