I thought this video was gonna discuss if we can consider the Ancient Macedonians Greek or not. CauE that's really the question. Should Macedon be a separete civ or not?
Thanks for your comment. Interesting discussion, yes. I tried to show that Alexander was indeed Macedonian (so maybe it's more historically accurate that he leads Macedon), but he did have a very big influence in the Greek culture, so it's not that crazy that he leads Greece. At leas what I was planning is that, the answer to the question of the title is "because he was actually Macedonian" but I also add the historical reasons behind why he's led Greece in previous games 😊
@@CivStory he also led Egypt, so there are mods that add him as a Pharaoh, but I like having separate Greek city states and Macedon if only for more unique units and letting them fight each other as it was in reality.
I mean yes sure, but like, Civ has stopped being about "civilizations" a long time ago. You can play as canada and brazil and such, politi that didn't even exist 300 years ago and who mostly don't have their own civilizational roots either.
@@stephengray1344 Civ 1 was, worse, ancient STALIN. The communist dictator (who's actually Georgian not r6&*an) with his modern attire and all. That's like having King Leopold lead ancient Kongo.
Separating Macedonia from Greece was a win/win: if you want your companion cav and sarissa phalanxes, you got them, and you could also field hoplites and build Acropolises, Alexander ruling from Athens was kind of ridiculous hodge-podge theme park version of Greeks, which yeah, this game kind of is. Now they need to cut away all foreign cultural things from the toilet stealers civ if they ever bring it back. Having Cossacks and Lavras literally given to colonizers is insulting.
I thought the vid would be about the discussion/arguments of if Alexander was closer to modern Macedonian or Greek

The League was formed by Philip II, not Alexander. Great video, though! I loved the animations.
Thanks for correcting that!
So Alexander should have been the first dual-civ leader.

The USA has been there since at least Civ 2, and they are just as badly suited to the concept of the game as Canada and Brazil.
Yes but everyone likes Lincoln so we'll just ignore that little bit. The fact that it's an American company doesn't effect that one bit, wink
@@stephengray1344 for the better or worse, I'm glad they changed the system in Civ 7 to be more 'realistic'
