  • In this video, I install a pool cue tip by hand and on my lathe. Can you guess which one was done by hand? Installing a cue tip is crucial to being able to play pole at a high level. It is obviously the only thing that comes in contact with the pool balls. Also find me on Facebook. DMIII CUSTOM CUES for all key repairs.

I have been doing them by hand almost a year now. I have some shaping tools with a blade i use.
I would like to get a Lathe but i dont have enough people coming to me for a new tip install for me to fork out the money and buy a lathe.

Yeah if only doing tips you don’t need a lathe to have them come out super nice. Especially if you buy a few cheap tools

@mulhollenbilliardschannel654 ya I had a few older sticks that was mine for years and also my grandfather's sticks. since I do home remodels and fine finish work I figured I could shape some tips.
Although one of my Camel ques had the 12mm screw on tip I put a new tip on it but the threading was bad and kept coming loose. So I took it to a local place he cut the feral off but to find the would tendon was bad so he cut it off drilled in and screwed in a new wood tendon and put on a proper ferrule. I took it back and installed a Kamui medium on it.
Wow what a difference. Hard to find those ques that was purchased in the old Camel catalog back in the early 90s.

@@mulhollenbilliardschannel654 ya definitely. I have 9 pool ques I've accumulated in my 40 years of playing.
I did upgrade my McDermott with a G Core shaft and a soft tip using magic chalk. The last month I have been working more on my stop shots and draw shots. And with that shaft the soft tip and the chalk it's a huge difference on controlling the que ball . My first time with a soft tip.

Sometimes if a tip is a little to soft you lose a little accuracy.

i saw how you used the half penny or dime metal plate there. Ive seen some cuesmiths not use that and just cut into the tip at an angle from the end. How do they know how to shape it that way? Good video as well

Thanks! Once you do it a lot it becomes automatic on shape. Plus always need to finish shaping it with sandpaper
