How to install a cue tip by hand vs lathe.
In this video, I install a pool cue tip by hand and on my lathe. Can you guess which one was done by hand? Installing a cue tip is crucial to being able to play pole at a high level. It is obviously the only thing that comes in contact with the pool balls. Also find me on Facebook. DMIII CUSTOM CUES for all key repairs.

    i saw how you used the half penny or dime metal plate there. Ive seen some cuesmiths not use that and just cut into the tip at an angle from the end. How do they know how to shape it that way? Good video as well

    I have been doing them by hand almost a year now. I have some shaping tools with a blade i use. I would like to get a Lathe but i dont have enough people coming to me for a new tip install for me to fork out the money and buy a lathe.

      @mulhollenbilliardschannel654 ya I had a few older sticks that was mine for years and also my grandfather's sticks. since I do home remodels and fine finish work I figured I could shape some tips. Although one of my Camel ques had the 12mm screw on tip I put a new tip on it but the threading was bad and kept coming loose. So I took it to a local place he cut the feral off but to find the would tendon was bad so he cut it off drilled in and screwed in a new wood tendon and put on a proper ferrule. I took it back and installed a Kamui medium on it. Wow what a difference. Hard to find those ques that was purchased in the old Camel catalog back in the early 90s.

      @@mulhollenbilliardschannel654 ya definitely. I have 9 pool ques I've accumulated in my 40 years of playing. I did upgrade my McDermott with a G Core shaft and a soft tip using magic chalk. The last month I have been working more on my stop shots and draw shots. And with that shaft the soft tip and the chalk it's a huge difference on controlling the que ball . My first time with a soft tip.

    Pausing that long at the back of the backstroke is bad advice. A SMOOTH transition is important and that means not using your muscles to STOP. Pro players with a 1.2 to 1.8 second delivery acheive that with a SLOW backstroke, not with a long pause. The smoothness is acheived by not engaging the forearms muscles - that is what the slow backstroke acheives. Pausing too long at the back engages the forearm muscles which is not good. I realize Melling and some snooker players do it. Gorst in your examples and indeed almost always does not have an excessive pause. Neither do Filler or Shaw or the KO brothers. But they all have a SLOW backstroke.

    • @mulhollenbilliardschannel654
      @mulhollenbilliardschannel654 8 днів тому

      Yeah these are all subconscious over training techniques. I don’t want anyone doing this in their normal stroke. It’s just a simple over training aide to create good habits. That is a great pause drill to create a smooth slow stroke.

    I do something very similar. When I find myself being too quick with my stroke, I'll say (in my head) "one one thousand" slowly during the back stroke. And I can't do the forward stroke until I finish saying it. I'll do this during a match if I find myself stroking too quickly and it immediately helps me slow my stroke down which will immediately improve my timing/game.

    The only reason why Bustamante now moves his head is cuz he's older. Same thing Efren also did when he was getting older. The Commentators said "oh Efren moved his body a bit" that's when he missed the shot. And it's because they got older.

    Best example of a slow transition is how pros use their whole shot clock plus an extension to make any type of shot. So that's 1 WHOLE minute to making a easy shot to a difficult shot. 1 minute because each shot clock is 30 secs

    Just subscribed because this was an excellent example of what proper practice looks like compared to playing the game. What resonated the most to me was the “1 Mississippi” and the “micro dot” because it demonstrates learning something consciously, using it subconsciously and a bridge of conscious to the subconscious: I’ll explain after a quick background info on why this fits me to a tee. I grew up big into basketball and shooting free throws is something than many players would attempt to improve on with simple repetition (lots of shots). I was taught to think about every aspect during practice (conscious) from where I’m bouncing off my toes, the bend in my knees, keeping a straight torso/back the bend in my elbows the placement of my off hand to the fingertips of the shooting hand and then also have all of the timing to by synchronized from feet to follow through. That’s training. Then shoot many FTs without thinking about anything from the mechanics and just slow down and visualize where to put the ball (just over the rim). That’s practicing the trained skill. If a player is thinking about the fundamentals when shooting in a game, their percentages go down-just like us shooting in a pool match. So, the “one Mississippi” is just like consciously thinking about all of the mechanics in a basketball shot-great for training and terrible for during the game… but it’s amazing when turning it from a conscious training effort into a subconscious execution during a match. Same for staying down until the cue ball stops. The concentration on the micro dot is a great bridge from the conscious to the subconscious-the video depicts Costner blocking out all of the surrounding noise… this happens in pool too but it’s often the noise in our own head that needs to be silenced to open up the subconscious and this is a great tactic for doing so. Very well done and something I will definitely start doing-I have a 618 Fargo rating (for reference) and my miscue Tuesday night cost our team dearly-and it came from the quick transition and inconsistent pre shot routine.
