Curious about any factions in particular? I've got notes for them all, just planning my order of approach, so comment away and let me know. Don't forget to check out the rest of the playlist - ua-cam.com/video/BmaVZwtBSQk/v-deo.html to see what's already up. Enjoy!
hey could you do all of them? Really great job by the way. You have a great voice for these kind of presentation and the video edit is top notch. Keep it up!!!
One of the most OP things about Rus are ... springalds. High Armory has a unique upgade to their range. This allows players with good micro to outrange and kill enemy siege units before they can do anything. Many top players already noted this practically uncounterable late-game composition: mass Streltsy, a couple of warrior monks with relics to chase off melee with convert and springalds to deal with enemy siege units, which in theory should have been a counter to that.
regarding overlapping hunting cabins, there's no reduction to the gold per minute gained unless the influence of a cabin overlaps with another cabin itself, not the cabin's influence - then it's reduced to 0. So long as you're not placing cabins too close to each other you're actually incentivised to overlap them to make the most of your forests
I didn't know that you could cut down the trees around the hunting cabin. I thought that if i cut down the trees, then the cabin wouldn't make gold anymore lol. I was trying to find places to put the cabins and find different places to get wood. I'm so glad I watched this video.
Oh my god dude thanks a lot for all these explanations about the rus! I didn't find any interesting ones in UA-cam yet! Also you explain everything well! thank you 😃
ty very much i learned space bar que selection, the warrior monk utilization, and wooden fortress defense with palisades. Crazy Ive already been doing pretty well without knowing!! TYVM!
This is a mint guide! 👍🏻 I’m starting out, only had a few games with the English, tried the Rus and really enjoyed it, as a faction they seem pretty good …but I don’t know much.
So afaik Saint's Blessing gives your army the same bonus as camels do for the Abbasids (+1/+1 armour) and +2 damage (+3 with the upgrade) on top - though it excludes itself and only starts after their first attack (though that could be against deer or sheep) for the next 10 seconds (20 with upgrade). It should also affects allies so... that damage buff sounds great on units firing multiple low damage shots like Zhuge Nu or Nest of Bees (potentially doubling their damage against heavily armoured units). Does it affect buildings firing arrows too?
Don't know if its mentioned later in the video but while shift-clicking the deer with your scout is viable while ECO'ing its certainly not optimal. You will want to use the cancel animation to quick fire the deer with your scouts or risk an enemy player taking more deer than you whether they are playing Rus also or just trying to deny.
Also, as a RUS player, i get up to 4-6 scouts on dark age for hunting and harass, 6 scouts can kill a villager that aint near the TC, you can deny resource collecting and even destroy some buildings, one match, i saw a english player trying to make a dock + lumbercamp oppening on a river map, he didnt seens intrested in sheeps after killing starting ones, so i got my scouts and started attacking his dock, forcing him taking villagers out of resources to counter, giving me more time to prepare for the longbow man rush, i got so much time more, that when i got to age 2 he just left.
How many hunting cabins do you make at the start? I'm considering forcing the hand on scouts (from the cabin, of course), getting to at least 6, so they move together and are capable of harassing and stealing basically whole deer patches in one go. Being together also mean I don't need to micro each one separately to kill deer faster, nor wolves; so although it may diminish the map revelation rate, the hunting rate will be way higher, I think. It does have a trade off with villagers though (60 food against 50). Now, because Rus are so efficient with wood, I still wonder what could the best first landmark be: Kremlin or Golden Gate? You can do 2 TC very quickly with GG, but maybe the bonus to wood gathering from the Kremlin is also worth it if you think of walling up (which is probably the go-to for Rus)?
@@JuanxDlol Makes perfect sense. Golden gate is useful throughout the game, not just at the beginning, like the Kremlin, right? The Kremlin is good to make your base more protected from raids, but it's uses are more limited, depending on the aggressiveness of the opponent, then, it seems. And what about the second landmark? I understand the Abbey has been the go-to because of cheaper monks, but wouldn't the High Trade House be a good option in order to complete the bounty bonus in case the opponent denied you of hunts (plus giving gold and lowering the need for too many farms)?
They'd be too weak otherwise, the thing that makes the rus so good is how they've got the best early game econ and will dominate the early game. They drop off pretty hard late game. If hunting cabins didn't even give you a trickle of gold mid-late they'd be near useless. Besides, gaining an additional 200g/min from about 4 well placed hunting cabins isn't breaking the game lategame. I still often see people ignore relics and they give 300g/min for 3.
Oh. my. woodness. I can't trus the Rus - so much tree massacre involved in those mechanics! It started so promisingly with the hunting hunt placement but how things went down, like those poor, poor, trees.
In what way is that broken? It hardly matters even for the rus. You've gotta transition to farm econ anyway idk why all these old AoE fanboys want every single micro thing rather than have some quality of life so you can focus on the game instead of decay/projectile stutter stepping...
they added many new features to make civs different from each other, and this is a massive part of the rus' advantages. It looks at this point if they brought decay back, they would also have to delete other parts of the game and making it more 1 dimensional.
Wow, no, the Rus early game is actually not strong enough because you're focusing on other things besides ageing up or building an army. You're hunting, which is important for your eco in the mid-late game (you're improving your food and gold gathering rate and delaying the transition into farms). What is strong in the early game is the Rus defense. Rus can make early knights, but it's hard to harass with them early because contrarily to the French or English, this unit does not come from the opening landmark. Plus because they're more expensive then longbowmen or early horsemen, and don't heal like royal knights, your army will grow a bit slower than most of the main opposition in the early game. The best route is to create some knights and archers, yes, but to DEFEND your positions behind the reinforced palisades and the Kremlin/wooden fortresses. That's where the Rus wood efficiency comes into play. You get 20% more wood inside the fortress/Kremlin AoE and things are sturdier. A bit later on, the warrior monks are always great for defending behind the Palisades, and no one will dare approach the walls if you go wololo from behind them and kill their siege with the knights. THAT is how you'll be able to reach age 4 and then build your main army of Streltsy (A LOT), knights(a bunch), warrior monks (a few), Springalds (many) and bombards (some). Also, throughout the game you should be building hunting cabins on every patch of forest (overlapping the radiuses, but not covering the cabins with them) so that you have a regular stream of gold for the endgame. That way you can focus your villagers mostly on wood and food and get away with it. That's my main game plan, at least. And while I know it works, I'm still so bad that I can never pull it off properly. I forget to build the walls and the cabins, training the scouts, keep a steady villager production... I just suck. But I think I understand the concept hahaha

Thanks for the kind words! Really appreciate it =)
completely new to age of empires and didn't even know about the gold generation with the hunting cabin. that alone helps me so much, thank you!!

more ager of empires please
The fact that a huntin cabin doesn't reduce it's gold when the trees get chopped doesn't make sense to me...
right? I've logged an embarrassing amount of games with the Rus thinking that I needed to keep my lumber camps away from my hunting cabins

+20% lumber yield when Lumber Camps and Town Centers are within a wooden fortress' influence... i don't really get how the TC comes into play?
