The 2014 Volkswagen Golf, which made its public debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, sheds 220 pounds to improve fuel economy and gets an evolutionary, but sleeker makeover. The redesigned Golf will go on sale in the U.S. in early 2014.

I wonder if the US's version will actually be made in the Tennessee plant where the Passat is? VW invested a lot in that state of the art facility so it would be nice if they made more than just the Passat there. The current Golf is made in Germany and the Jetta in Mexico.

I agree. But I also understand that VW is a big company, and once a big company gets an idea for a great new car, it goes down the chain of corporate people, and is slowly stripped of all that made it interesting.

although when i went to change plugs the first time the number 3 plug was melted and that was ridiculous to fix about 200 bucks to have a shop pull it out i no the 04+ F-150's had the same issue but outside of that the cars been great. I think i'm going to stick to subaru for awhile i need the awd here

I really don't think VW is as unreliable as everyone says they are. I've had my '12 CC for just over a year with no problems. I admit, the MDI unit was faulty, but that was straight from the factory, everything else has been perfect; No problems have arisen.

the non blower or turbo mini, is about like hte tdi golf. 90 to 110 hp. 150 hp for the twin cam tdi. and 250 ft lbs torque. bmw 335d. 416 ft lbs torque. mmmmmm

I assume they're trying to sew up the worldwide company car market with this sigh of a car.

VW, if you want to become the world's biggest carmaker, don't cut corners and improve your reliability ratings. I mean look at the Jetta and the Passat, that's actually a way to lower your sales and image.

Keep the same design ! Improve what's under the body

  • @SergeantVeteran

Still, even the best looking cars of all time do get older, and timeless designs should get revised so you don't see the same old shape forever.

Interior looks very good on this car. The US will gets the most shitty engines because of collusion between energy producers and govt. We can't have a diesel that gets super high MPG. The one we do get is detuned.

I've owned two German cars and my Family has owned German most of my life and you say there unreliable wtf are you smoking My old Truck made in the US was a pile in the shop every three months my German cars never gave me an issue outside of one belt snapping which was a 20 minute fix on the side of the road.

I actually think the Passat is a good design, competitive and drives well. On the other hand their redesigned Jetta is a complete POS, drives poorly and cuts corners everywhere.

Exactly the same boring car for ages. A bit of styling and they call it mk 9 or something. they just went nuts.

  • @cb7pwn

see thats the thing with German cars, EVERY component fails, from water pumps, to clutches, to brake components, and they are notorious for having the worst electrical systems in the world which is the worst thing to diagnose and fix on a car.. and its god dam expensive to fix.. on american cars it is at least the same few problems with each manufacturer model and they are cheap to fix (and all pickups are unreliable because they tend to be neglected)
