- Опубліковано 14 лип 2023
- In my last pond update video I announced that I thought one of my fish was pregnant, well those got taken by a predator bird and I missed them so much! In this vlog style episode, you'll see how I built a simple cage structure to protect my new Medaka fish with a visit to a garden centre too. Let me know your Scottish name suggestions in the comments!

Not sure if you've seen the series 'Outlander' but these are some of the names (and their origin/meanings) from it:
Murtagh (means “sea-warrior” and “mariner.”)
Dougal (Scottish. Meaning: Dark stranger; Black)
Fraser (of Scottish and Norman origin meaning “of the forest men.”)
Taran (a gender-neutral name of Gaelic origin, meaning “thunder.”)
Jamie (Unisex name of Hebrew, Scottish origin meaning "supplanter")
Brianna (Celtic, meaning: Strong. She ascends)
Marsali (Girl's name meaning "warrior". One of the most distinctive Scottish names for girls)
Excellent work
Fingers crossed for your new fish, another way of getting Medaka is to buy the eggs online and hatch them yourself - I've got 5 varieties and just got eggs delivered from Japan
I enjoyed that we were able to share in the entire experience, including your visits to the garden and hardware centers, building the protective cage, and your trip to the allotment.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ beautiful
I'll add Angus Podgourney from Monty Python's Flying Circus. Anyway, a charming video by a charming lady. Cheers from the Colonies (So. Calif.)
really enjoyed that katrina
Here are some names from the movie Brave that I love! Merida, Elinor, Fergus,
Harris, Hubert, Hamish, Angus, Maudie!
Cracking job 🍃🌸🍃
That is a proper colditz enclosure for your fish. I do the same to keep squirrels off my vege plants. The lengths we go to!! 😁
As for a name how about Rod, after the singer, not a fishing rod.
From a scottish lassie here's some names for your wee fish😘 Hamish, Jocky, Campbell, brodie, shugie, hughie, Clyde, Flora, Morag, flossie, jessie, eilidh, mairi, isla.
Or some highland island names like skye, Lewis, Harris, Iona, 😊
Good luck😊
Good
So pleased to see some Medaka fish back in your mini pond. The cage will definitely keep the predators out. Hopefully you will get lots of baby fry soon. 😊🐠
Everything about this channel is so lovely.
Great 🎉🎉🎉
Lovely 😍 surely one has too be Hamish !
I live in Scotland ang named my son Cameron because I wanted a nice Scottish name to go with his Scottish surname. Eilidh is a nice girls name too. A few other selections are Rory, Angus, Lachlan, Ailsa, Catriona (close one to your name)

Hi Katrina, the pond looks fabulous, you have done an amazing job with the cage, besides keeping predators out it will really help keep it clean as well, a good Scottish name is Fergus xx
Love the pond. that final shot of the pond was so picturesque. Just lovely.

Awwww, I love you have fish again. I have a koi pond, I so enjoy sitting out there with my morning coffee, ever once in awhile one will jump. I searched famous Scottish warriors, they mostly have everyday names, figured I'll leave it up to people in Scotland to offer up some names. Hope you're weekend has been lovely.

For names, an obvious would be Fishy McFishface, then Tartan Marmalade for the other orange one, Meg (short for Megaladon), Moira (Scottishy) and Nessie 😃
Good luck, it will be fun to watch them grow.
You nailed this vlog. That was so relaxing.
I looked up some Scottish names, these took my fancy . Douglas (Dougie ) means from the dark water. Beth means lively , Ervin means Beautiful. Kade = From the wetlands. Maisie =child of light Vanora = white wave

Hi katrina another task made to look easy, the arrangement of plants was amazing looks beautiful, have a nice weekend, john
Beautiful wee beasties. I love the pond cage, that is a great idea.
Love the pond! And the fish are so beautiful. I vote for Hamish 😊
Lovely fuchsia above pond
Great from Africa!!!! Keep it up😊
Some leaves are fine. They become food for little microorganisms as well as fertilizer for the plants.
Love your pond, the interior and the extra protection... Well done
I love everything you have done wit the plot
❤❤
Nice end to a busy day - a Homegrown Garden video! And I can celebrate being first to comment at last!
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. Thank you James for your name suggestion and contribution - just need to look up the pronunciation of that one!
@@homegrowngarden It's Shay-mass, Katrina. Note Irish spelling is different - Seamus, but same pronunciation. And to be really academic, Hamish (Sheumais) is the vocative version of Seumas. I learn about plants and fish while you learn Gaelic! 😊
Haggis, Square Sausage, bagpipes, Nessie & Braveheart ❤ Lovely video Katrina, a real relaxing video😊
I can’t wait to add fish to my new pond. I posted videos of the whole process if anyone’s interested even though we are far away I believe the pond process is the same?

Good luck with your little shoal of Medaka. I still have15 of my original two dozen and hopefully this winter will not be as cold and I won’t lose any. I notice that you haven’t put your carnivorous plants back in; any reason?
Loved this video, also the trip and to see how you built the cage, really nice and inspiring. The pond looks great.
Haggis, Jammy Dodger, Wee Dram, and Neeps.

Awsome 😊 glad they survived
You've made me think about adding a container pond! I've got three standard ponds already 😅
Name suggestion - Kenna, born of fire. I thought for one of the orange ones, maybe the one who came up first, he's a brave little guy!
Happy gardening 🌱🌱
Angus, Archie, Fergus & Finn

Good to see that your new fish have arrived. Are they otherwise known as Rice Fish?
Yes, that’s right. They’re native to Japan 🙂
..K: how about one of these ancient Gaelic boys names: Finlay/Fingal/Finn - all mean 'fair' in colour, which some of your fish are.....and they certainly all have fins!
On the names, my grandmother has a Scottish terrier called Haggis.

Hi a lovely pond. I have something similar. Do you have a filter . Can’t imagine you do I don’t in mine and it has been going for years but it’s not in full sun and has a good supply of oxygenating plant. I also watch to see if fish are coming up for air and then put in rain water to top up. Also most important don’t over stock. Hope you don’t mind my advice love the video all the best Robert
Been excited for this one Kat😍 i hope yours are doing as well as mine after their extended journey from Scotland ❤️🐟
@homegrowngarden You're so beautifully lady❤
Great vlog, lovely to see some of your surroundings. Names.... Hamish, Angus, Dram, Erica, Skye?
Привет! Красивый пруд😍 и рыбки, особенно серебряные ❤. Не повредит ли пруду сильный дождь?
جيد جدا.❤️💕❤️
😍😍😍😍
Glen, Ben, Skye, Lomond aaaaand Orkney
❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Why did you have to get them from Scotland? A special type? Love fish in the pond
A good Scottish name is Hamish😆 Or Whisky, of course...
Do you have any fresh water flowing into the tank
Agnes has got to be the most Scottish sounding name I know
It is amusing how we can become attached to an animal no matter how small, the size of a horse fly and yet we endow it with character and give it a name and hope it feels good in it's new environment. I was wondering if you were going to eat the fish, like an aquaponics garden with talapia and bass and.... upon seeing them I guess not.
HELLO!!! With a woman like YOU, any weather is a blessing!!!
❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉👁️🤝🖐️💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💅🦋☎️💐🌹🥀🍰✍️
