As a so called old timer, i'm really impressed that youngsters like yourself are giving your all ,to achieve your goals. Great inspirational video. Keep up the PPE, after 40 years in engineering my lungs are shot and I've probably lost 10 to 15 years of my life. Keep safe, live long and prosper.
Sorry guys but have to agree with another comment next time buy a couple of Boiler Suits it will save your clothes in the long run,,by the way you're doing a great job on the ⛵⛵,it will look good when you are finally done.,, anyway great video.
Been there, done that. All the prep is super exhausting, getting sick from all the dust, even though you are wearing a good quality mask. You are never satisfied the metal is clean enough and the steel immediately starts rusting after you take the paint off. I'm glad neither of you have been seriously injured in the process. God bless you two!
Sorry Danni and Joe, but I know I’ve said this before but, the more you two suffer the more it makes me smile. You are both very entertaining. All the hard work will be worth it in the end. Keep making great content by just being yourselves. The Bloops were the best, Danni is so pitiful, that it’s adorable.
That drill attachment is pretty slick, we had dedicated deck crawlers in the Navy. Though below decks on a sub you're mostly needlegunning, has the benefit of not being hot work.
Hi. Love the boat. Pplease accept a word of warning. The angle grimder is probably by far, one of the most dangerous tools anyone can use, eve. In expert hands. Always keep this tool in front of the body, not to the side as you did in your video. It can jump without warning and the rwsult can be disasterous. Also do not ever use it with the trigfer locked in the on position, asking for trouble if you have a misshap. Always grip it well with both hands and pay attention at all times till the wheel has stopped turning. Good luck with the boat. It is something I would love to do. Maybe in the future. Regards Jack from Ireland
Crivens and crivens again. Admiration by the bucketful here to you two. Did have to laugh at the look Danni gave you Joe….surprised you are still alive to tell the tale !!! xx
18 months in I’ve still got painting to do! Well done, I’ve just finished de rusting my roof, it took 30+ surface preparation disks and a month in patches, but went back to full shiney
What a job! Your perseverance is amazing. Prep work seems to take forever BUT how satisfying is putting on that first coat of whatever. The next part will be SO satisfying. And then……the best Chinese of all time! See ya next week.
phwoor the chimney sweep look really suits Danni. black rust is what you get on old tools and carbon steel knives which helps protect the steel underneath. painting the boat with vinegar would do that. I admire your effort. I'd be inclined to blast it clean and have frosted glass until I changed the windows.
😂😂 someone asked if it was a new makeup range! Yes blasting would be a good bet it’s just availability of socks that allow it, almost a year wait around here!
well as boat painters ourselves, when we got our new boat,I can agree, it's hard work, even on a pre primed hull ,and we have re painted a previous boat, and didn't strip it back to bear metal as you have done.but well done you two.you can be proud of yourselves.xx Alex and Maria
Danni, Jo,e, you guys are amazing. So much hard work, you must be worn out. You have done such a great job scaping off all the old paint, and what an amazing job you have done. Well done. Have a lovely week. Take Care.
The only job i can compared this to was cutting out all the seized bushes on my honda s2000, changing them and then putting it all back together. Every single bolt needed cutting out and every bush burnt out. It took me about 20 hours over a few days off work and by the midway point i was completely broken🤣 Amazing job by the both of you. I'm not sure i would of gone all the way back to bare metal but at least you can say you've done a proper job.
Sterling work! My wife and I did the same in the first year of our marriage in 1987 when we lived on our narrow boat. It is certainly character building stuff. We’re still married and looking at the possibility of moving back onto a boat. Keep it up, you’re doing a great job. X
Oh my goodness Joe and Danni, there are no words, you have worked phenomenally hard, I have nothing but admiration for you both. I didn't realise you were stripping all the sides as well. You honestly deserve a medal both of you. It's going to look amazing, I can't wait for next week's vlog. Best wishes to you. Christine x
Well done, top job! I thought that tool would put prominent ridges in the steel and be in the cut or bin shortly after! Yes, we are all learning from your mistakes but this wasn't one!
Thanks for sharing the video. I hope you finish it soon. It does look pretty useful to have a portable power station that you can place anywhere and plug in anything with ease. I think I want one.
Very hard work, it’s probably better to sandblast than used hand tools , it may cost a little more, but it’s faster and cuts down dry dock time. But well done 👍👍👍👍👍
The end result of your hard work will be appreciated one day sitting in the sun.. drinking a cold beer looking at what you’ve done and you’ll know it was worthwhile and rewarding to do…. 👍 keep it going… p.s I’m a painter and decorator and really impressed with you work… 👍
I have been watching your older videos. When I watched the video when Joe lost his wedding ring I subscribed. I live in Texas United States. I have been around offshore boats most of my life. I have never seen anyone work so hard to find a wedding ring. That's when I subscribed. When you were painting your boat why were you using such small paint brushes and rollers? When I paint my 32 ft cabin cruiser I use the biggest brush I can find. But anyway y'all did a fantastic job. When I first started watching narrow boats I thought they were the dumbest thing I ever saw. And that was about 4 years ago. The more watched I got hooked. Lol I've been watching your recent videos. Waiting for more. You two have a nice day on the canal. 😊
Thats a big job, i know, with long rough days, muscle ake and dirt. Well done you both! Youre doing it right. The result will be very nice and give you a very good feeling, i promesse. Again, my compliments, soldier on!!
Well done both for all your hard work so far. It'll be well worth it in the end when one day soon you can stand back and proudly say, we did this! Keep going strong. Can't wait for next week's update
Great series ❤ been bingeing the last 3 days so far I’m here 😂 stared at your latest video which UA-cam randomly suggested and been watching from the beginning of your boat build all the best to you two ❤
Hi I feel for the both of you. I know how you feel after sanding and grinding all day. Well done both of you I can't wait to see the end result. Steve from Detmold Germany 👍👍👍
Be careful sanding the vactan, it’ll bubble like an old wool jumper and if you break the surface it’s like peeling sunburn, I found better to just paint straight over it and sand out that layer of paint, good luck. I just want to send you both the biggest hug, bless you both having to grind on thru even whilst you’re poorly 🤗🤗 it will look amazing once it’s all done and you know it’s been done properly and it will last for years 🤗🤗
Wow, very impressive, just before winter - good move! That rotating shark teeth tool is a massive time saver. Those expressions on the both of you at 20:00m are very representative for the ordeal you are both going through, oh boy! Dropping the hoover is just a small setback, not that dramatic, actually ;-) Thank you for filming all of it.
Yes a little late in the year for paint to dry thoroughly but glad it’s done for now! The hoover was almost the straw that broke the camels back unfortunately 😂
Love the video next time you need too repaint and use power tools with two operators of a cable reel I’d work out half way point put the cable reel in the middle then each operator plugs in with a 15 mtr single extension so if their moving up with their tool they are not waiting on the other person too finish hope that helps 😊
I really feel your pain. The look on Danni's face a couple of times said it all but your enthusiasm and good humour are amazing. I think the end result is going to be superb. Compelling watching !!!
My first post, Great work guys you 2 are proper grafters,Looking forward to nxt weeks i, m hooked on your adventure's. Still catching up but Loving it👍
Wow, incredibly hard work from you both and whilst feeling poorly. The boat is looking well prepared. I cannot wait to see what she looks like next week. 👍👍
That’s the second video I have watched tonight about painting a narrow boat and the opinion is NO. Good job, hard work but the best option to go back to bare metal.
Hi Danny Joe,I really admire you two such dedication such hard workers and you do the job properly no skipping you both are perfectionists it’s it got to be done do it correctly, the paint you have but on is that a rust killer or something like ,how will the undercoat work with that not seen anyone do that ,well both of you I truly hope it works out ok ,so till next week take care keep yourself safe and don’t full in especially if you got 240v tools in your hand ,yes Joe you was right taken the windows out would have taken a good day and more to but them back,John 🌹👀🤔👍😆🙏🫣🫢😩🤣
Hello from the foothills of Mt Rainer, Washington state usa. I gotta say bravo to you both. Just wow what a great job you are doing. I've been watching your progress and you both are such a great couple to watch and learn the struggles of narrow boating. I subscribed once I watched a few of your vlog's. Sending you a ton of love and positive thoughts and prayers dear friends.
If the old paint (dark green on the side) still has good adhesion, you can just sand and recoat. Wire wheel would probably be effective on the hand rail.
Are you sure its a cold? and not due to irritants blown up by your sanding down? If you have a sore throat, one of the best cures/helps is to gargle with soluble aspirin. This anaethsatises the throat and helps alleviate headaches when you swallow it. ( tcp or salt are great to gargle, but if swallowed cause vomitting) if really bad then honey&lemon can help.
My deepest sympathy to you both…😕 It’s a horrible job to have to do especially the preparation, I’m sure it will be all worthwhile 😊. At least you know what to expect next time!! ( in 5 years if you’re lucky!! 😬). Can’t wait to see the finished job 👍 PS. Can’t believe you’ve dropped something else in the water 🙄. Take care guys 😊
You two certainly know how to graft, everything you have done so far has been great, but you have just taken things to a different level I can’t believe what you have taken on, but credit to you both and wishing all the very best to you, can’t wait to see the finished job.
When someone asks me who my hero is, I used to say Sir Steven Redgrave. He won five Olympic gold medals over twenty years in one of the most physical sports there is. As from tonight, when someone asks me who my hero is, I'm going to say Danni and Joe.
You were talking about the black rust on there I would have just did an acetone wipe down primered let the primer dry and then throw my base coat of paint on with the acetone you're cleaning the surface perfectly clean and dry so it doesn't rust.
Yes just like my Dad and both brothers in the trade, I take my hat off to them. Although they’d be fitting in a lot more tea breaks than us. They’d also have the benefit of being paid 😂
@@ItsOhJoe 😆 Yeah I think we're not taking it back to metal...we're painting it the same colour again so just a freshen up really...prob should do what you guys have done and do it properly...not sure we can bring ourselves to do it though 😅
@@BenandEmily Not sure if you could see but there was rust spots coming through everywhere on ours so was the only option really. When we first bought it we were like ohhh we won’t wake it back to metal just a sand and a paint over and then a year later like oh shit we’d better take it back 😂
I thought Vactan contained latex as a sealant, so it doesn't require painting? Anyways converters are phosphoric acid based because the salt they create isn't water soluble. Base (rust) + Acid (eater/converter) > Salt + Water That could be why you're finding rust under your converter, but if there's good adhesion so the atmosphere is sealed out I wouldn't worry too much. Any acid will do to remove rust, citric is quite a popular choice. Screwfix do a heavy duty descaler that's pretty powerful & cheap too.
Thank you! Yeah we need to think ahead with the PPE for sure!
You can do it! Just keep moving....
Thank you!
“She gonna look Pretteeee” 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤧
Oh she does! Can’t wait to get next weeks video out!
Should have invest in a couple of cheap boiler suits
Sorry guys but have to agree with another comment next time buy a couple of Boiler Suits it will save your clothes in the long run,,by the way you're doing a great job on the ⛵⛵,it will look good when you are finally done.,, anyway great video.
Ps, forgot to ask Danni but my wife wants to know is she sporting a new makeup range.
Yes not a bad idea!
Wash the metal with acitone as you sand it and apply a base coat of primer all as you go along. This will prevent rerust
Will try that next time!
Credit where credit's due. You're both amazing to take on that job. Single-handedly plus your poorly but well done. Such an achievement
Thank you very much!
It’s a darn good thing you have a wife on duty that is a nurse. First responder on the spot! .
😂😂😂
Been there, done that. All the prep is super exhausting, getting sick from all the dust, even though you are wearing a good quality mask. You are never satisfied the metal is clean enough and the steel immediately starts rusting after you take the paint off. I'm glad neither of you have been seriously injured in the process. You described it all perfectly! Thank you for watching 😊

That drill attachment is pretty slick, we had dedicated deck crawlers in the Navy. Though below decks on a sub you're mostly needlegunning, has the benefit of not being hot work.
Oh wow can imagine the noise that would make with the needle gun!!

Yes fair point! It caught our hands a few times with the flappy disc & that wakes you back up to remembering what you’re holding!
Crivens and crivens again. Admiration by the bucketful here to you two. Did have to laugh at the look Danni gave you Joe….surprised you are still alive to tell the tale !!! xx
😂😂😂 thank you so much!
I wonder if there is just a coincidence that pain and paint share 80% of their characters... Keep on pain(t)ing 😇
😂😂😂 very good!
It would not be a true Danni and Joe video, without Joe hurting himself, dropping something in the canal and other tom foolery. I love it.
😂😂😂 it’s part of it isn’t it?
Oh my god! An amazing project for you to try! Good luck kiddos, hugs to you both.
18 months in I’ve still got painting to do! Well done, I’ve just finished de rusting my roof, it took 30+ surface preparation disks and a month in patches, but went back to full shiney
Ahh well done! We’ve had our boat around 18 months now, few more bits to finish but they’re never really finished 😂😂
@@ItsOhJoe that’s for sure! Yh I’ve been watching since you did the battening. Can’t believe how fast you’ve got so much done!
What a job! Your perseverance is amazing. Prep work seems to take forever BUT how satisfying is putting on that first coat of whatever. The next part will be SO satisfying. And then……the best Chinese of all time! See ya next week.

Thank you guys! It’s the surface area, you don’t realise how huge they are until you start!
Painting is easy. Preparation and repairs you find along the way are hard.
Definitely!
Danni, Jo,e, you guys are amazing. So much hard work, you must be worn out. You have done such a great job scaping off all the old paint, and what an amazing job you have done. Well done. Have a lovely week. Take Care.
Thank you for watching! Definitely a job we don’t want to tackle again for a while 😊
Awww you poor soles. Feel for you and you both look so knackered. What a fab boat it will be when we see it finished. 💕👍
Thank you!

Sterling work! My wife and I did the same in the first year of our marriage in 1987 when we lived on our narrow boat. It is certainly character building stuff. We’re still married and looking at the possibility of moving back onto a boat. Keep it up, you’re doing a great job. X

Thank you so much Christine that’s really kind! So glad to see it finished, working through Sundays video now!
I'm just about to start my very own canal journey. In a traditional 54ft' er. Your videos are so inspiring to me.
Well done, top job! I thought that tool would put prominent ridges in the steel and be in the cut or bin shortly after! Yes, we are all learning from your mistakes but this wasn't one!
Thank you! Yes really impressed by the Tercoo attachment
good vid of you pating you boat thanks lee
Thanks Lee glad you enjoyed it!
You’ve both worked so hard and the end result will be worth, bit of a shame there’s so much c-p has gone in to the canal !!
Yes a massive shame, we hoovered as we went but it’s inevitable that the dust carries out, even in a dry dock to some extent!
Who would have thought you would need a safety clip on the Hoover as well? LOL
😂😫
Thanks for sharing the video. I hope you finish it soon. It does look pretty useful to have a portable power station that you can place anywhere and plug in anything with ease. I think I want one.
Really handy bit of kit!
Very hard work, it’s probably better to sandblast than used hand tools , it may cost a little more, but it’s faster and cuts down dry dock time.
But well done 👍👍👍👍👍
Yeah much easier just finding places with availability, this was available almost instantly and meant we could crack on. Thank you!

Oh 100% thank you very much!
I have used Vactan on vehicles with great success. Not talking the windows out was a good move.
Thank you, we think so too!

One of your best vlogs, so far.
When I thought you were going to bare all, I didn’t think it was going to turn out to be the boat hull! 🤨
😂😂 thank you!
Oh my, you make me fell exhausted watching. Wonderful job! Oh hum back to sanding the bathroom ceiling.
😂😂
30 mins never went so fast, good luck with the rest of the painting both of you.
Thanks Paul!
Wow what a job that is, it’s going to look great though!
Thank you!
Good decision on the windows, get the painting moving right along.
You two are excellent work buddies, keep it up.
Thank you! A bit of a short cut but on a boat like ours as long as they’re water tight they’ll do!
Wow what a massive job guys .. well done ..Amazing…cheers Chris & Sammy
Thats a big job, i know, with long rough days, muscle ake and dirt. Well done you both! Youre doing it right.
The result will be very nice and give you a very good feeling, i promesse.
Again, my compliments, soldier on!!
Thank you very much!
Having painted a few coaches I feel your pain! You have way more determination than I would have these days.....
Oh wow yes similar surface area if not more on a coach I bet!
Looking good keep cracking that whip joe ✌️
Hahaha thanks 😂
Fair play. I don't know how you had the patience to attempt that 😮👍🏻
Same! 😂😫
Hi Danni & Jo, Great work with the prep and first coat. It will look fabulous guys. Keith
Thanks Keith really happy with it!
Well done both for all your hard work so far. It'll be well worth it in the end when one day soon you can stand back and proudly say, we did this! Keep going strong. Can't wait for next week's update

Well done to you both for doing all that work while feeling so rubbish.
Looks good, so much work to do.

Yes we just painted directly on top of it, not without it’s issues though!
Being a a left handed person. Everything you both do looks great. And don't look awkward. Than them right handed peeps. lol
😂😂 this gets mentioned quite a bit, glad to be doing the left handed community proud
I just want to send you both the biggest hug, bless you both having to grind on thru even whilst you’re poorly 🤗🤗 it will look amazing once it’s all done and you know it’s been done properly and it will last for years 🤗🤗
Thank you so much! Fingers crossed we get a few years out of it!
Crikey. That definitely looks hard work. Not fun when you feel un-well. Hope you both fully recover soon.
Thank you felt a lot better during the painting process luckily!
Wow, very impressive, just before winter - good move! That rotating shark teeth tool is a massive time saver.
Those expressions on the both of you at 20:00m are very representative for the ordeal you are both going through, oh boy!
Dropping the hoover is just a small setback, not that dramatic, actually ;-)
Thank you for filming all of it.
Yes a little late in the year for paint to dry thoroughly but glad it’s done for now! The hoover was almost the straw that broke the camels back unfortunately 😂

Thank you very much guys!

Thank you very much John! So that cures and acts as a primer, then the primer we were going to use goes on still and then paint as normal!
Amazing progress!
Thank you!
Fab video, well done. I just did my roof and it was hard enough!!
Roof was the hardest bit to be fair!

Awesome job you two! I would have had that drill thingy wound up in me every five minutes...
Oh we did a few times 😫
massive achievement proper graft well done
Thank you!
You two are amazing x
Thank you! 🙂
Prep wheels are quicker removing paint and don't forget to paint rust inhibitor over your steel before you paint primer !!!
Yes went with Vactan!
If the old paint (dark green on the side) still has good adhesion, you can just sand and recoat. Wire wheel would probably be effective on the hand rail.
What a hellish job to do and to have to do it whilst feeling unwell. I would say you should rename your boat Perseverance but...
😂😂 thank you!
You both work hard on your boat hats off to you both thanks for all your blogs I look forward to seeing them every week .many thanks dannie & joe
Thank you!

Yes quite possibly caused by the particles from the paint! Didn't think of that at the time.
Well done guys, will be worth it in the end!
All the best!!👍👍
Thank you!
The end is only the beginning. 😅
A crock sander Would be ideal for that job
Yes true!
Well you two you certainly don’t give up amazing the way you both knuckle down and smile. Well done can’t wait to see your boat completed. 😮
Thank you very much!
My deepest sympathy to you both…😕
It’s a horrible job to have to do especially the preparation, I’m sure it will be all worthwhile 😊.
At least you know what to expect next time!! ( in 5 years if you’re lucky!! 😬).
Can’t wait to see the finished job 👍
PS. Can’t believe you’ve dropped something else in the water 🙄.
Take care guys 😊
😂😂 thank you!
Aw wow bless you both it’ll look fab
Can’t wait to get next weeks video out!
Keep up the hard work... it's gonna look fabulous 👌
Thank you!

Keep your eyes peeled for next Sunday!
Love it love it. You guys worked so hard. Its all about the prep.
Thank you!

😂😂😂 oh wow! Bless you! Thank you for the kind words
M o y n a r , L Monday. ,zip. Bu t
I am always impressed with how thorough you both are with everything you do .😎
Don’t be fooled we haven’t really got a clue 😂
A serious question , when you grind all the paint off does all the dust end up in the river water ?
Great video guys.. thanks
Thank you!
You were talking about the black rust on there I would have just did an acetone wipe down primered let the primer dry and then throw my base coat of paint on with the acetone you're cleaning the surface perfectly clean and dry so it doesn't rust.
Ahh okay. Will remember for next time (if there’s a next time!! 😂)
@@ItsOhJoe it looks good keep up the good work and the great content nobody has ever said owning a boat is easy...
Some people (tradesmen) work this hard week in week out.
Yes just like my Dad and both brothers in the trade, I take my hat off to them. Although they’d be fitting in a lot more tea breaks than us. They’d also have the benefit of being paid 😂
@@ItsOhJoe nobody pays a tradesmen to work on his own house/boat.
@@markjones1337 Correct. Hence why everything takes twice as long to get done around the house.
Great effort guys. Well done. Can’t wait to see it finished
Video should be out Sunday!
Woooah good work guys!! That looks HARD. Its going to look so good when it's finished 😊🌟 really not looking forward to painting ours now! Haha!
Thanks guys! Would love to say we’d help but can’t think of anything worse right now 😫 give it a year for us to forget 😂😂 you’ll be fine!
When we first bought it we were like ohhh we won’t wake it back to metal just a sand and a paint over and then a year later like oh shit we’d better take it back 😂
Well done guys 👍
Thank you!
Amazing work, your boat is going to look beautiful xx

Old faithful!
Holy God. You guys are working your a$$es off. Good on ya. Can't wait for next week's
Thank you!
I thought Vactan contained latex as a sealant, so it doesn't require painting?
Anyways converters are phosphoric acid based because the salt they create isn't water soluble.
Base (rust) + Acid (eater/converter) > Salt + Water
That could be why you're finding rust under your converter, but if there's good adhesion so the atmosphere is sealed out I wouldn't worry too much.
Any acid will do to remove rust, citric is quite a popular choice. Screwfix do a heavy duty descaler that's pretty powerful & cheap too.
Ahh that’s interesting! Will remember that descaled from Screwfix
