Thanks Justin. It's the perfect reel for me. Quality, options, line cap.,size and price can't be beat. It is smoother than my 2nd favorite reel (SLX XT). Bang for buck all SLX reels are great. The SLX DC is good for people who backlash alot but the MGL is my choice, you'll love it.
The mgl is great but anyone looking at these SLXs…don’t discount the standard issue SLX. I own each variant and the standard is still my favorite. You don’t have to fiddle much with it, it casts medium to larger baits a mile and since it’s simple, it’s easy to service and there’s less that can go wrong with it. Where my xt and usdm mgl went a little “geary” after a while, the SLX has just kept on truckin. It sits next to my aldebarans and metaniums quite comfortably and while it isn’t quite as refined, it always does whatever I ask it to without any trouble.
I'm with you man. I just got an SLX 71 MGL and absolutely love it. I use 10lbs line and use it for jerkbait and crankbaits 1/2 and down and buddy it kills it.
I literally just got that exact reel out of Japan. The first shimano reel for me in probably 25 yrs. Paired up with s Phenix feather. Can't wait to put some time on it. Tight lines.
Got mine from Japan a year ago for about $100, best money ever spent on a reel, I absolutely love it and it’s still as smooth as the first time I used it.
Don’t sleep on those dukes! They have quickly become one of my favorites! It’s absolutely my favorite when I just want to burn and rip. Shad burst color is hammer time!!
I thought about buying one , but deciding to stick my cheap upgraded reels . I might backlash twice in 20 days of fishing unless I get in the wind . And $20 for a kastking legend gt for $20 that casts well and catches fish , I decided to stay with it .
That's so crazy you posted this video today, because I just pulled the trigger on this reel earlier today! I will be pairing it up with my 6th sense Milliken travel series rod
I love my shimanos, the one I have that I don't like is the shimano curado k 200. I almost threw it in the lake last year. Tried it for a couple of weeks and I can't stand it. So now it just sits in my reel bag. I would trade you the reel for some heaters, if your interested.
I bought this reel over a year ago to use with my jerkbait setup because jerkbaits are a pain in the ass with a standard reel. With the MGL 70 it's cake! However IDK what happened but the reel handle randomly bound up on one of the paddles. Idk if it got stepped on and bent or what exactly happened so I'm gonna have to replace that this year
An expo near us over the weekend was selling that MGL 70 for $150 with an Intenza rod included. My dad grabbed one. I ended up getting an SLX 8.2 reel with the intenza for $100
I had my eye on this reel for awhile but I ended up branching out to daiwa, I know crazy right. I went with the tatula sv tw 70 it was 229.99 from tackle warehouse, it'll be here Monday. Can't wait to get it in hand. It's my first daiwa reel. It's going on my cranking setup for shallow cranks up to 5 feet. Of course I'll be throwing a lipless on it as well. BTW next time I get some extra $ in adding more heater series rods to my arsenal.
I like 70 size cuz I have small hands plus I don't like getting very deep into my spool. Once I'm about 2 maybe 3 casts deep into a spool I add new line. The loops and stuff are hard for me cuz I suck at casting lol
Anyone have experience with this Shimano or MGL as well as the Daiwa Zillion 21? Looking for someone to compare them as I’m looking for my one reel for everything.
I'm not done watching but I have the curado mgl150 and I love it so much I ordered a scorpion 19mgl spool for my curado 200 and now it's a mgl too plus I have an extra spool to keep spooled with fluorocarbon quick and easy change when I need to
Missed another drop!😢 but I went fishing today and I had a day to remember! They were munching on that mini cricket with a juggle trailer! 6.4 was the biggest! Man I love fishing!
Good video brother just a heads up I have a curado 70 mgl xg tried fluorocarbon line and because of the spool being so small it was too much of a headache I stepped over to 12 lb mono and it works out great just thought I'd let you know 🔥😁🎣
Justin I have been watching your videos for the last few months and I have been learning a lot from you, but I have a question that you may be able to answer for me. I do not have a lot of money, but I am trying to put together the best gear I can within my budget and still leaving enough money to purchase the 6th sense gear and tackle that I need. So my question is this. What is the best bait caster and spinning reel combos under $100? I am looking forward to see what you say, I am just limited funds wise since I have 4 kids in college and I dont want to take from them. Kids first for me but I love fishing. Thanks Justin and keep the great videos coming.
I don’t really have any experience with combos in that price range so it’s difficult for me in good faith to make a recommendation. I think the best budget friendly baitcaster combo that is still reasonably budget friendly is the SLX Combo from Shimano. But that’s about $200 if I remember correctly. The most economically priced reel I own is the Daiwa Tatula CT and it alone is $130. If I had to go with 2 sub $100 picks right now without doing any hands on research I’d say Shimano Caius and a Dobyns Colt rod. That’s as close to a $100 combo as I could recommend at the moment. Hope this helps.
@@JustinRoyal Thank you Justin for your honest answer and I fully respect what you have to say. Thank you for taking the time to get back to me sir. I look forward to more videos and I wish you the best for 2023.

OK you talked me into saving up and buying another reel to go with my other 30 or so 😂😂 I've been buying and collecting up reels from cheap to mid ranged for a couple years now lol that one I need since I love mu shimano slx xt hg
@@danielmiller6255 the mgl is not a 150 size big dawg. It's a 70. The regular slx, xt, and DC are I believe. If they had that mgl inna 150 it would be bad ass tho
I have 2 Curado MGL 150's and I LOVE those reels! I just picked up a Daiwa Tatula SV 103H (2017 model) it is smooth but I love the shape of the Shimano reels more. A person can not go wrong with either one.
Slx 70 is legit. Just got in the new slx 70 xt dc. Even better man. As good as the scorpion but in a smaller lighter compact package. Best square bill/jerk bait reel. It is a little pricey compared to the other slx lineup but you can tell with the idc 5 system it is new and improved. Just letting you know if you look into one. Def better then that trash zillion hahahaha jk jk. God bless you and your fam brother. Take care
70 size spool is better for target cast like docks or lay down and lily pad. Popper , trig and jig. If you want to use lipless, chatterbait, cranks then go use the curado 150mgl 7’0 - 7’3 rod is great with Slx 70mgl Goodluck fishing
Had the Currado DC and it was $269. sounded cool but one of the most overrated reels ever! I have reels for less than half the cost and have been more reliable.

I own 7-8 of the slx mgl. Fantastic reel for the money. You can launch a jerk bait, fluke, shakey head, etc. Great for flipping or skipping docks.

I have 3 of the SLX MGL70 and they are money. They are on my jerkbait rod, finesse jig rod and small crank rod.
I just got mine last week. Went out to LBJ on Sunday oh my goodness this thing is smooth. Thank you for the suggestion.
I love love love mine it’s killer for so many different bait’s and it looks so sharp.
Probably my favorite reel I own! 17:29
Would you lean towards the Curado MGL or the SLX MGL 70?

Your intro songs is one of my all time favorites yami obi is the most feel good vibe metal I've ever heard
I absolutely love my bass rise. It was like $60 and it's a great Shimano! Definitely a great starter reel!
I have had this reel for a year now. I run 15 or 16 lb flouro. Once the brakes are set right, it’s pretty hard to backlash.
So how much line with mono line for 12 lbs test and how much yards for braided line and how did it cast
I thought about buying one , but deciding to stick my cheap upgraded reels . I might backlash twice in 20 days of fishing unless I get in the wind . And $20 for a kastking legend gt for $20 that casts well and catches fish , I decided to stay with it .

Well I just bought one! I am sure I will love it as I don't have one with that fast gear ratio!

That set is top notch. San Diego Jam Knot is where it is at.
