I couldn’t agree more. That 7’1” - 7’4” length has become a sweet spot for me as a bank angler as my all purpose. Long casts but also am able to pitch with it on the more open banks. Personal preference, I lean towards the ModFast feel. I have the ark Cobb buzzburner (7’1” H/Fast - fishes like a mod fast MH +) ark invoker pro (7’2 M/modfast - fishes like a MH/modfast) and the Cashion all purpose (7’4 MH/ Modfast - fishes true MH but on the faster side of Modfast). It’s the only area of rod length and action where I have multiple rods. They allow me to fish 14, 16, and 20 lb test line for pretty much every lure type.

When I first tried baitcasting rod and reels many years ago I with with a 6'6" rod and reel combo and never really like it. When I finally gave it another go a few years back I went with a 7'3" MH Fast rod from Kastking and loved it. Still one of my favorite rods that I use because it does all of the things you said in the video. I have since expanded my rod lineup to a Medium and an Extra Heavy road as well, but the MH Fast does it all very well

3 years ago Bradley Hallman did a great vid called 'How to choose the RIGHT ROD' Great trick he shares in this vid of how to match your favorite rods parabolic bend to any rod in the store. For those with A.D.D. fast forward to the 6 minute mark.

I wanted to buy a KVD Lews rod, simply because KVD is the goat. I went with the GC6, and that rod is such a good all around rod. It’s softer than I expected it to be. It’s become my favourite rod for a lot of different baits.

My number one rod is a St Croix Mojo Bass 7'1" MHF. I can use it for just about everything I throw. Now I do also have a Dobyns Fury 7' MHMF for those treble bait. But I have used the St Croix for them and had no issues.. I do not have a boat. I fish from the bank and I also use a wheelchair. I can stand and walk some. But I am limited. If it wasn't such a pain in the but I would like to take 5 rods with me. And sometimes I do. But I sometimes just get tired of dealing with all the gear. And end up with just 2. My St Croix Mojo Bass casting rod. And either my St Croix Triumph 7' MLF or my St Croix Mojo Bass 6'8" MXF depeneding on what lures I think I am going to use.

I have a really cheap 6"11 MH fast spinning rod from bass pro that I think I paid $50 for. I have had it for years and it is by far my favorite jerkbait rod, I bought a more expensive casting and spinning rod to try and fish jerkbaits but I can't get the same action I get from that rod. My favorite casting rod has to be a 7"3 casting rod MH fast that I use for just about everything other than heavy baits and topwater. I bought a 7"113 fishing fate black MH extra fast and I love that thing for flipping jigs. I live in MI

I have a Cabelas Tourney Trail 7' medium fast spinning rod I bought as a combo with a president , it is such a great rod, sensitive, crisp and lightweight , let my grandkids use it when they visit , should have it on my boat 24/7 but its hanging in the rafters waiting on my grandkids to visit this spring

Sure, if you own 2 or 3 rods I think this is a very good choice. Now that I am 55. I own probably close to 30 rods in working order ( have about 30 more broken ones, ha) that I have bought over the years. That being the case, I match my rods to the bait I am using. 7'6 sensitive Medium heavy for flipping, 6'6 medium Falcon for my spinner baits and buzz baits (I specifically mention this brand because I love this rod for these types of baits. I know for a fact I miss less fish using the Falcon)., 7'3 sensitive MH for worm type fishing etc. These are the rods that I have come to like over the years for certain baits. Im sure everyone is different based different criteria.

My goto rod specs 7'6"-7'3", always mh with fast action. I really don't have accuracy problems with 7'6" which also gives easy distance for those spoked fish in clear waters. Lately I have been enjoying my IM9 KastKing Speed demon rod 7'6" mh fast lure 1/4-1 Oz. The rod is just a beast at $130. There are like 20 rods to choose from in that line up. Another rod is the KastKing Spartacus II rod, love the feel, the awesome Bait keeper, and comes with 2 rod tips at $55 which is a IM6. It's a bit stiffer but the price and feel with 2nd tip makes up for any argument. I am also eyeballing the new KastKing rod Royale legend pro at $72 which is a perfect in between rod. Yes, I am a hardcore KastKing fan for so many reasons, the gear just doesn't fail. It's super easy to upgrade bearings and customer service is awesome.

Another thing to take into consideration is how each manufacturers power system may be different. I was fishing a 7’3” MH Kistler Helium, but switched to a heavy power in the same rod. I think their power system runs a little lighter, so my H feels more like a MH imo. Also, the new channel has been very informative!

Definitely the MH/F is the most versatile. Since I’m a kayak angler, I tend to go with a 7 footer but also have a couple of 7’3”. Thanks again for noting the difference between power and action. Too many videos don’t make that distinction which is, of course, important.

My favorite rod I own is the G Loomis 904C MBR- 7’6” Heavy, MBR or Mag Bass Rod is a more moderate fast action. It’s by far my favorite. I would fish the 7’ and 7’6” everyday and do every technique well

M favorite is a 7'3" spinning rod fast acting. I use it the most... Texas style, top water, up to 2.5 crank baits everything pretty much. 20lb braid 20 flour leader.. Bait caster is 7 to 7'3" fast action. 30lb braid.

6’6” Medium Fast HMX Fenwick Spinning is favorite. I feel I can do just about anything with it. However I just started using a baitcaster and getting used to it, I thought I’d like a similar set up, but now I really wish I got something heavier.

    • @P4TMB
      @P4TMB 28 днів тому

Same boat. Love my 6’6” Pflueger spinner butt finding that anything above medium for that length is cutting back my casting distance. I tried everything from lighter line to heavier lures to get a better load on the rod and I’m almost certain now, that the issue is length. The stiffer MH needs more blank to get the load correct. If I didn’t love getting bites on top water frogs so much I wouldn’t bother with the MH bait caster. 😂

My preferred bait caster rod is a 7' MH power fast action Lews for almost everything. My preferred spinning rod is a 7' medium power fast action Ugly Stik Carbon. It's ridiculously light and can still handle anything up to about 3/4 oz on 10 or 12 lb fluorocarbon. 👍🇺🇸

I can agree with ya on rod length and action for a good all around rod . 7”3 ft is my sweet spot ..I got few 7”6 for flipping and few 7”3ft ..a lot of my rods are designed for specifics..my favorite thing to do is flip timber with a 7”3ft heavy but a medium heavy on smaller down sized jigs and Texas rigs ..it’ll do everything chatter and spinner baits , top water ..just stay away from
    Trebles

Big st croix victory fan if u do get rods designed for specific category’s ..hard to beat any 7”3 quality medium heavy for an all around . Cheaper priced I have been happy with couple of Dobyns fury series for like 119 or so I think I seen last …I prefer dropping over 200 on rods and reels each but for the price it’s a good set up for all around ..it has enough play and parabolic bend In The 3 series medium heavy for many applications ..feels good in the hands too ..I have owned about every company’s rods of some sort and pretty hard to beat the consistency’s on few ..why I really enjoy st croix if getting specific more

I used to use nothing but Quantum Bill Dance series and loved them for years but then they got ridiculously hard to find. I tried just about every brand there is it seemed and most were pretty good and did what I needed them to do but for the last 4 or 5 years I've been hung up on Dobyn's and 13 rods they are super sensitive, strong and affordable. In all fairness though I have not tried an Arc rod yet bc no one close to me sells them and I really like to feel the rod in my hand, shake it and just see how it bends before I unass $100+ on it, and you can't do that when you order online, but I trust Tyler's opinion on them and will most likely buy one soon just to see.

Best for me is a balanced rod. I recently bought some MH and H "3 for $100" rods, all were tip heavy. So I epoxied some weights inside the butt grip.

As a 5'7" angler I tend to go shorter for my finesse baits. If im throwing a Texas rig worm on a very light weight I use a 6'8" to make it easier to throw all day accurately. But for most moving baits I definitely go from 7'1" to 7'3"

I have 12 favorite rods lol trying to narrow down my arsenal as I don't have a lot of room in my boat and I fish on buddies boats a lot , been narrowing down to 5 when hopping on a buddy's boat , if I had to choose one rod as my do all it would have to be a Dobyns Champion XP 734c, its listed as a heavy fast but its really a medium heavy mod fast , it might be the most versatile rod ever made, caught bass throwing 3/4oz swingheads in deep water, 1/2 chatterbaits, 3/8 to 1 oz football jigs , every size texas rig , and it excels ripping lipless through grass , sure I give up a little sensitivity to have a rod that shines on moving baits but its sensitive as you need on bottom hopping baits

    As a canadian
For the baitcaster 7'3-7'4 MH preferably fast action running straight 15lb fluoro.
Spinning rod still a 7'3 but a M extrafast running 10lb braid to 10lb fluoro leader. I should say i use a 7'3 ML extrafast just as often but with a 8LB leader if not more... But i figure i could do everything i do with the medium-light, with the medium. But the medium-light probably couldnt bomb a 3/8 dropshot or tungsten finesse jig as far as i could with the medium. And up north when i dont have my boat out im usually chucking as far as humanly possible to reach a cliffline for smallies. So i need that... Uhmph... So if i had to choose one spinner ill take the medium.

I would like to see the actual physical weight of the rod in the specifications. I know a few ounces may not seem like a big thing, but when it’s 110 degrees and you’re holding a flipping stick for 6 to 10 hours fatigue becomes a factor. While it may not be extremely noticeable, it’s there and became pretty obvious to me the first time I used a quality, lighter weight rod like a G. Loomis. Another critical aspect for me is a collapsible butt on any of my rods that exceed 6.5 feet. My boat dimensions restrict my choices in both rod length and how many I put on the deck. Thanks for the video and keep it real.

Great video. I enjoy your body of work. I’ve never thrown the Money Maker but I know you love it. My last rod purchase was a Dobyns 734 XP. Kinda pricy, but my veterans discount was helpful. And now that 734 is in my hands 70 to 80% of the time. I guess I need a second. Is it the best rod for any one technique? Probably knot, but it feels so good to me and keeps the fish pinned. Find that rod that works for you and never leave home without it. Continued success with the channel. God bless.

About 7’, medium with moderate action. You may find it difficult to find a rod labeled “moderate” at a box store. Many budget rod manufacturers will not label a moderate action rod as being “moderate” because the typical consumer will choose “fast” over “moderate” every time.

Compare the handle section length of each rod. There are rods that are 7-2 and 7-0 and have the same rod section length. The handle section is just longer. I always compare from the trigger to the end of the rod section to determine the length of rod to buy. A lot of rods just adjust the handle to get to a different length, same length of rod section and same number of line guides. So is that actually a longer rod in use?

Unfortunately my car was broken into and upwards of 600$ of my fishing gear was taken. I'm about to purchase my second rod and reel. I know there are a million combinations. But I've locked in on the daiwa Fuego ct reel and I'm looking for the right rod. It sounds like 7'3 MH Fast is my best bet. I'm looking at a Favorite Sick Stick or a Favorite Gen 2. How do I know if the rod and reel will compliment each other? And do you think this would be a good rod?

Hey Tyler what’s your opinion of the other casting rod models they have including the invoker pro series ? Would you say the Tharp/Invoker pro rods compete with Daiwa tatula elite rods?

I purchased the exact rod ARK tharp money maker. I have been disappointed with it. It is not catching as many fish as Tyler does. But to be serious, I feel the eyelets are very fragile. Microeyes
I've had to strengthen them several times. It's not as sensitive as expected. 😢

No doubt you need a rod that can throw multiple baits... Co anglers like myself can't have a lot of rides for just one application... Med Heavy is the right call...

My favorite rod is a St Croix 7’1” Bass X medium heavy spinning rod. I know to most guys it makes no sense because it’s a spinning rod but I have caught a ton of fish on this rod. For me a old Texas rig guy this rod is perfect. I have been known to even pitch with it for a few casts rather than change rods.
