    OK OK OK OK.....
    My parents are asian....
When I showed this to them, and they saw 0:54, they realized "Oh crap" and they don't let me go to friends houses anymore because of fear of me playing M rated games at my friends house.
My mom says "I know that you know its fake, but its the mindset. These M rated games make you subconsciously more aggressive. And I don't want you to be like that, I don't want you to act aggressively"
My dad also thinks that the game devs are "training kids" to kill people because games are getting more and more realistic. He said "If you just think its a game and its ok, then its even more bad because you want something even more realistic. Then even more realistic, until its real life and you shoot up a school."
    WTH do i do?
I'm 15, get all A's in school (I am asain, mind you), I rarley get in any trouble at school, play 2 different sports.

Obviously, it's the realistic graphics that are getting them, but the realistic graphics are only the appearance of the game, it's the thing that attracts people and they say "Oh! That game looks fun!" but if it was training people to kill others then that game wouldn't even EXIST anymore. And have they ever even SEEN anyone play any of those games you want? It sounds like they've never had experience playing those kinds of games. It has never been proven that these games make people more aggressive. I'm basically an average teen that plays Mortal Kombat! My "aggressiveness" hasn't been noticed by anyone from before I played Mortal Kombat, and after I've played it. Keep in mind, that Mortal Kombat was the reason that the ESRB rating system was even created.

I can play batman arkham city or uncharted, but once a game gets an "M" rating, its automatically blocked from their minds.
For example. Halo 4 is rated M for blood, violence. Thats IT!
Arkham Origins is rated T for Blood, Drug Reference, Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Violence.
Halo 4 has no swearing, no sexual content. And its not the online features my parents are worried about - they know about muting people.
I think guns are actually the problem in this case. Halo 4 - Guns, Batman - No Guns

My dad's not comfortable with video games period. I'm nearly 21, old enough to have M games (which I have along with a 360 which I got just days ago). He has no game intrest or experience (or capabilities, trust me). He won't let me play, despite the fact that I have a job I do well at, a car I take care of, I exercise, and (in my opinion) manage my money pretty well. Another problem is that I'm in no position to move out any time soon.

I have my dad to help but if he buys me the game my mom will find out and either take it back or store it away. It's bullcrap. My mom took me to see Jackass: Bad Grandpa but she won't let me play Persona or any M game? WTF?!

Got some nice XXX action going on there. I'm 14 and finally someone understands me. All I want to do is play Cod 4 multiplayer and the only reason I do is so I can be competitive. Also when you get rewarded for getting XP with weapons and perks it makes me feel like it payed off, almost like sports. Cod Black Ops is coming out in about 2 months and I know I'll only get to watch videos of other people playing it, like I'm doing now with Mw 2.

Even though the games are not real, some children don't have the mental capacity to interpret that. I have seen first hand how a child is influenced by a video game. It changes the way they behave, yet it is not drastic enough to make them want to kill someone...
As long as the person is mature enough, its OK to play these kinds of games...

Very good video, touched on a lot of good points. I have been playing games with violence and gore since I was probably about 5 years old and started playing Doom.
It has not affected me in a negative way, I realize that since I can kill monsters and people in games, it does not mean that is how the real world is. My parents had a good way about it with raising me and instilling the difference between reality and virtual reality with my upbringing.
So I agree, parents should get involved.

I gotta show this to my neighbor's mom and dad. I think as long as parents or teenagers supervise the younger kids while they play the games, then they can see for themselves what "rated M" really means.

I think that it really depends on the wisdom of the child, and if he/she knows what they do in games aren't to be done in real life (no shit). But I say this because there are some children that will take elements COD or some kind of game and think of it as ok. And this IS all up to the parents, if their child is young, to judge the child's level of wisdom/maturity, what ever you want to call it and then see if the game will distort the child's judgement on reality and decision making.

my mom made sure I was a level headed person growing up knowing what was real and what was not. I knew that shit happened in the real world as well though. Now that i'm an adult going to college I think I turned out pretty well. They were pretty hands off though and my mom was rather clueless, but my dad being a gamer never confronted me up front but watched from afar and made sure I wasn't falling into a stupor or growing up believing the wrong things.

  • @SSalem1970
    @SSalem1970 13 років тому

@SSalem1970 It is our duty as parents to protect and guide our children to the right. I agree that we do need to prepare them for cruel life, but there is limits to that too. They really don't need to 'see all that blood and violence' to be more ready for adult life and real life!!! Did your parents prepare you this way??? Surely these kinds of things didn't even exist in your childhood! Mine sure didn't, yet I was ready? Why?

The biggest problem with this arguement is the constant fact that parents, when talking about M rated games, will bring up the "language" aspect.
That hasn't happened to me, though, thank goodness.
My biggest problem is: I can't play Halo because of that little "M" in the bottom left corner of the front of the game. I can play games LIKE it though, preferably the it's rated "T", which are MUCH worse than Halo, Avatar for example.
    What do I do?! o_O

Well let me ask you something, are you sure he/she isn't? Spend a bit of time with them and see. If they really aren't mature enough to handle it then don't let them play it. I completely agree with this video.
What I don't get, is how some parents will let their kids/young teens have profiles on sites like myspace or facebook without any supervision at all(even though the system is there for it)and yet they won't let them play videogames rated M (or in worse cases any games at all).
What is it coming too, eh?
The ONLY way to fix the problem is for parents to get more involved in their children's lives in a POSITIVE way, and not just as 'bosses' or 'rule layers.'

As a parent of an 11 year old boy, I want to say this: Communication is the key. An unabashed (unembarrassed) open door ability to discuss every topic with guarded sense of age appropriateness is the ONLY way to deal with the hardest topics (which includes the parents' stand on "M" games).
There is validity to warding off exposure to M games too early; however, this measure should include news, video, music and the like.
Truly involved parents SHOULD be careful about all of these exposures!

Well i have the same problem too. I use to have a bunch of Rated M games. My parents did research on all my games and then took them all away from me, because on the cover of the game it says there's bad language. I got Halo Reach back because the cover doesn't say there's strong language in it, but there is in campaign. Which is the same for Call of Duty. I wasn't gonna bother showing this video to them, but they need to realize that i hear language Like this every day at school.

For the people of this site I ask (respectfully and genuinely): Exactly how DOES a parent go about "viewing" a video game (T or M rating) in its entirety, BEFORE buying for their kids?
If the video is true and not all M games are created equal, then give us parents the means by which to make conscience "parenting" choices for our kids! (please and thank you). Having my son tell me about a game isn't a viable way for me to make that decision. Your help is most welcomed on this.

Extensive research evidence indicates that media violence can contribute to aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, nightmares, and fear of being harmed. "

Hi I am a 13 year old boy and I can't play M rated games YET. And I agree with what your saying 100 percent. But what about the language in those games? Because this area is my dads biggest concern.

I had my first M rated game as a 7 year old, but some games my parents immediately say no to. I showed my mom Borderlands and she immediately said no due to the guy on the cover making a gun with his fingers an putting it up to his head. She also won't let me play grand theft auto because all she's ever seen of it is beating up prostitutes and cussing. She doesn't understand that games hold a more beautiful and poetic meaning under all these things.

It just depends if your mature enough. It's not really base on what's in it. It just depends if you can handle it. Some people will that it's gross. Some will go crazy and excited when they kill someone. If your kid is crazy or easily freaked, don't get him or her an M game.

I am 15 years old and I’m not allowed to play rated M games
My mom is over protective and she thinks that violent games will turn me into a violent person even though I’ve been playing Gta for 2 years and I haven’t turned violent.

1:48 is the reason I believe that experimenting with recreational drugs is a good think, it opens your mind, but games only cause problems if the parents don't let the kid know there is a difference in reality, and video games, They aren't themselves harmful.

I hear that the reason Call of Duty: World at War was made M-rating just to show the real horror and sadistic violence in World War 2.
