I feel like Wario and Waluigi would be the perfect comedic rivals to Mario and Luigi in a sequel. Plus, their personalities fit quite well with illumination's already existing humour.
Video aboud pikmin series would be fantastic [ 5 stars on every game ( Backloggd) means you probably like them]
I’d take a Wario treasure hunting movie set in his maximum surreal world. Introduce him in a Mario movie, then let him star in his own adventure comedy

The fact we could actually get a Luigi’s Mansion movie is insane. It went from a relatively obscure spinoff series to one of the best selling games on the Switch to even (maybe) getting a feature film.

I was always on board with Jack Black as Bowser. He has a wild energy that’s hilarious and pretty fierce.
From the moment it was announced, I was making jokes about Po from Kung Fu Panda laughing maniacally while Mario climbs the endless staircase in Mario 64.
“My two worst enemies pitted against eachother! MWAHAHAHAAAA!”
He seemed to emulate the Gamecube Bowser voice from Mario Party 6 and 7 just now with dialogue
I was always on board with the entire voice cast, aside from Seth Rogan Donkey Kong. As soon as I actually heard him in the movie I was like "Yeah this voice works for DK", it's just that I'd never encountered Rogan in any context other than "hurr durr, smoke weed and say swears is funny"
@@RoninCatholic I was okay with Seth Rogan as well. My childhood DK was Rareware’s depiction where he was just a chill, carefree guy who only leapt into action when you messed with him. The guy from the 90s CG cartoon or Grant Kirkhope in DK64 come to mind. So it’s like sure, the stoner guy sounds about right. 😂 That’s not entirely the depiction that ended up onscreen, but it still worked
@@robertlauncher That's the version of DK I grew up with, too, hence why I became okay with it as soon as I heard his actual performance (basically, so long as he's not the one writing the "humor" he can do a good job on the acting part in my book). And the movie's version of Cranky is a pretty good fit with how he was in the CGI cartoon as well.
I'd never heard of Charlie Day before he was cast as Luigi, and had no problems at all hearing Jack Black was going to be Bowser and Chris Pratt was going to be Mario.
Weird how we all thought that Chris Pratt would be horrible at playing Mario but now we see how he actually played him really well

Honestly, I would have still preferred for Charles Martinet to voice Mario, but what we got was great already, so there.

@@Roge9I mean Charles is a legit and experienced voice actor, he can do more than just the silly high pitched Mario voice, so I think he totally could've found a way to change his performance while keeping it authentic to the original
In a future film they should at least let Charles Martinet voice Wario (and maybe Waluigi) since not only did WarioWare Gold prove he can do Wario’s voice in full sentences but even before that Wario and Waluigi often spoke in full audible sentences unlike most of the characters and Wario and Waluigi’s voices are much lower then Mario and Luigi’s voices nor are their accents as thick as Mario and Luigi’s so people couldn’t use the excuse that it would be annoying to listen to their voices unlike with Mario (and maybe Luigi) supposedly.

I feel like it should be a testament to how good The Super Mario Bros. Movie truly is, is that my mom (who has little to no interest in gaming and Mario in general) found this movie really entertaining. Which was a real shocker to me, because I thought she'd end up hating it for some reason.
A can see that, I’m not a gamer at all but even I had a great time watching this and even sonic. They had the right mix of very obvious references even I’d get and the more hardcore ones only true gamers would appreciate. Just very clever. I’ll admit that detective pikachu was also pretty good though there is already a lot of media around that universe to build with

Same with my mom she also enjoyed it too even though she doesn’t entirely understand gaming or Mario either. I mean for example somehow she didn’t know Bowser is the main villain in the Mario series up until the movie even though she had been with me to Super Nintendo World in California and went on the ride Mario Kart Bowser’s Challenge where the whole plot of the ride and Bowser’s Castle should have made it blatantly obvious that Bowser is the villain.

The fact that Rotten Tomatoes gave the Super Mario Bros Movie a Rotten score, yet they gave Ralph Breaks The Internet a Certified Fresh rating is exactly why I have trust issues with Rotten Tomatoes.
Some defenders said " but they have reasons for not liking it, and they did correct score " but if critics are right, that means that Mario Movie is Illumination second worst movie and the Secret live of pets duology is better
there's an obvious disconnect on how people view media, I feel sorry they didn't enjoy the movie as much but then I'll see some other choices they ranked higher and be confused. Though the Mario movie probably had a hate agenda cause what I learned from the villian in Rapunzel is that "If there is a slimmer of light in the world, the world will find a way to crush it"
Not to mention they gave CUTIES a 90% score, so there's that...
They just hated Mario just because his plot wasn't like their crappy "avatar 2" style boring woke plots.
Ironically with Ralph Breaks The Internet one of the directors Bitch Moore LIED about including Mario in the film. Yes he DID and NO ONE can convince me otherwise.
I thought switching Peach and Luigi's roles around was the best decision they could make for this movie. Mario has known Luigi his entire life, and the bond they established in the first act was very genuine and real. And Peach being Mario's mentor in the second act was also a great move - she has experience in the Mushroom Kingdom (living there her whole life), while Mario doesn't. Plus, we get some Peach/Mario shipping action here too.
One other thing I found genius was Bowser not knowing what Mario's true goals were. Bowser was so caught up in his obsessive crush on Peach, he thought Mario was going to steal her 'love' away. However, Bowser fails to realise three things: 1. Peach hates him. 2. Peach and Mario are, at best, barely flirting with each other due to the fact they don't know each other very well. And 3. Mario only teamed up with Peach so he could rescue Luigi *from Bowser himself* . And Mario and Peach gradually get closer due to their shared goal of trying to take Bowser down. Talk about being his own undoing.

Expanding on the Mario/Peach relationship, the movie didn’t shove it in your face and gives them an opportunity to expand naturally if there’s a sequel.
I swear, there have been so many times a movie was dragged down because of the forced romance side plot, with two opposite gendered characters with no dating chemistry falling in love while overshadowing the actual plot, so it’s refreshing to see a naturally budding relationship that’s able to remember the main objective.
Only two things I wished was a little more Luigi and maybe another retake in some of the lines, but overall, it’s a pretty solid movie.

Peach in the movie had no character arc or depth she was too perfect most of film
Another thing to mention about Luigi being captured is that it's a good way to set up Mario's motivation for when Peach is captured, very likely in the next movie.
The first movie ends with Bowser being put in a bird cage inside Peach's castle. That is obviously not going to hold him for very long. He's actually in a very good position to kidnap Peach once he manages to escape. And now Mario has a reason to CARE about her well-being, since she helped him save his brother's life. She's his friend now, and since we know he'll do whatever takes to save the people he cares about, it makes sense that he'll risk life and limb for Peach, just like he did for Luigi.
Way too many people complain about Luigi being captured instead of Peach and they're not seeing the bigger picture. This is very good story-building.
Only complaint about Luigi being captured was he and Mario had ABSOLUTE PERFECT brotherly chemistry together, and I honestly just wanted more of them actually working together.

I really hope that in a sequel we can get Wario and Waluigi: two brothers who wanted to mooch off of the Mario borthers’ success. They’d mostly be goofy asshole not-so-villains, but perhaps they could get in cahoots with Bowser and begin to work together to bring down the Mario brothers, but for different reasons. Bowser would want revenge, whilst the Wario brothers would just want to spite their success and steal it somehow.
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast someone posted a picture of Mario’s family on Twitter and asked about what the Wario equivalent would have been… I ended up saying that it’s just a bunch of bags of money with crude drawings of faces on them. XD

@@battybuddy Wario and Waluigi being Spike’s children would certainly be interesting, but it would be rather hard to explain why he’d have similar-looking kids to his employees. The best excuse would be that Wario and Waluigi would be stage names set up by Spike to either
A) try to replace the Mario bros in a way for his own company
B) mooch off of Mario and Luigi’s success
It’s an interesting take, but it’d be difficult to incorporate it seamlessly with the rest of the already set-up characters.
I definitely appreciate that they didn’t make Peach the usual pathetic damsel in distress or make her annoyingly sassy like in Smash Bros., but I do feel like she was perhaps a bit too serious, maybe next time we can have a more relaxed Peach that’s a bit closer to how she is portrayed in the games.
Also WHY DIDN’T WE GET TOADSWORTH?! They could’ve at least put him in Peach’s flashback! He should’ve been the one who hugged her when she first stepped into the Mushroom Kingdom, would’ve made the moment even more heartwarming! And you know what makes it worse? There is official concept art featuring him, meaning that he was planned to appear initially!
No offense, but Peach isn’t annoyingly sassy in Smash Bros, that’s part of her character. What are you even talking about? :/
Toadsworth would be a great mentor figure for Mario and Peach throughout the movie, it would help to balance the tone (and i know that is cliché, but imagine him falling to his presumed death in the kart scene, it would raise the stakes tremendously)

Even if its not plot relevance they could just replace the blue toad with glasses with toadsworth and have him be who baby peach hugs there plots the same but we know who is that advisor on the movie and Making it a Better scene

Jack Black as Bowser is one of the most iconic things and I dare anyone to prove me otherwise. Him on the Odyssey wedding suit unlocked some core memories of when the game was first released lol
Yeah what they did with Mario and Luigi in this is what made me like okay, I’m on board. Then his rivalry with DK gave me an unexpected pleasant surprise, too. You could make a whole buddy comedy with these two, they’re great.
Lol. I was kind of sad about that, cause Mario and Luigi themselves had such perfect chemistry together, and yet Mario does more bonding with Donkey Kong. XD it’s a bizarre sort of thought of mine, but I felt like we should have had more of Mario and Luigi working together.

Man I love how Mario movie is perhaps not only highest grossing video game movie but also best video game movie that is animated which both refreshing and invigorating that why I prefer animated versions of video game far better than live action versions of video games which has become so overused and done to death overtime
absolutely, though some video games can work in live action like Pokémon with detective Pikachu and Tomb Raider, while others like Sonic I would have preferred animation, but the 2nd movie was good so I'm fine with Sonic being live action
One of my few criticisms is how Illumination and Miyamoto agreed to keep some of the placeholder pop culture songs, much to the chagrin of Brian Tyler (He was barely able to force Illumination not to use Jump by Van Halen when the Bros. got the super stars). The main tragedy is removing Drivin' Me Bananas in favor of Take On Me. That and maybe the movie could've added an extra 10-15 minutes for pacing. Otherwise, a good movie, and a great adaptation.
I maintain Jump should’ve been used in the training sequence. Shrek 2 is already the definitive animation for Holding Out for a Hero.

I love this movie, the animation is outstanding, referances were great ( they make "Your princess is in another castle" joke ), and is just nothing but fun
Honestly the “princess is in another castle” gag was one of the weakest references IMO. It felt too “in your face” for my liking.
This is by far not only the best illumination movie, but the best video game adaptation. It was so much fun and was done almost perfectly. As a Mario fan it was so much fun watching. Can’t wait for the eventual sequel!
The sequel will be announced soon after both the writers and actors strike are over and get a fair deal according to Chris Pratt

If there's something we can all agree with about this movie, it's that Luigi barely got any screen time. I mean it's relieving that he redeemed himself in the end, but it would've been nice to see him and Mario work together a bit more. Maybe the sequel will fix that.
Im so glad the movie turned out the way it is. The only thing i had to complain about was how it was Mario and Peach saving Luigi instead of Mario and Luigi saving Peach. Then again, unless Mario and or Luigi knew Peach enough or something, how would the writers make them care enough to save peach and the Mushroom kingdom? Besides the fact she's a princess of course.
I love it because it shows two things: Mario loves Luigi so much that he’ll do anything for him, and peach is a true badass and not a damsel in distress

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a perfect adaptation with lovable iconic characters, excellent animation and design, and just an overall fun experience. Nothing more, nothing less.
Amazing example on how you do a adaptation of a popular brand.
Hopefully the sequel will fix the pacing issues and has more character interactions.
I want to see Luigi interacting with Peach
And has more running time.

Chris Pratt was great as Mario! He really gave it his all and I love the Brooklyn accent he puts on. And not only that, but his Charles Martinet Mario impression was ON FLEEK in the commercial! Sure, it felt like I was watching Emmet Brickowski 2.0, but that’s why he worked so well. IMO, everyone owes him an apology. 👨🏻🔧🧢❤️❤️❤️

AGREED. He's an excellent new take on Mario, and as an avid fan of Lou Albano's version from the Super Show, I was overjoyed to hear the Brooklyn accent.

One thing I never expected from this movie was a suicidal nihilistic Luma! But it was great
Maybe not "perfect" perfect in the sense of narrative, but yes, it's perfect in terms of characterization, visualization and musical presentation. And I can totally agree with your Sonic example; because what I hated most about the first one they made is that 10 minutes worth of storytelling was cut from it, which would've enhanced the story for me. Sure, not everything has to be explained, nor should all things be good, but when you're telling the story and they're confused about it, sometimes it's best to have something in the story to make them feel satisfied enough.
BTW, about the whole "Bowser wants to marry Peach" thing? It's been part of his character since 1986 with the Anime Movie. And given the current status of the Mario games with Bowser (not counting Super Mario RPG, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and Super Mario 3D World, because those stories were already told before Odyssey), Bowser hasn't kidnapped Peach in a long time, most likely because she finally got to his head that she was never interested in him at all; Bowser even cries about it while Mario consulted him.
Yeah no lol, NOTHING can go through Bowser's thick skull. He'll probably still try kidnaping her in a future game, just not right now. This is BOWSER we're talking about. Learning or giving up isn't in his vocabulary.

The reason this managed to be so faithful in the first place is because of the heavy influence from Miyamoto. He wanted this to be as great as it could be.

Personally though, I think we’re getting a modern Super Mario World adaptation next with the Koopalings and Junior introduced and an adventure in Dinosaurland. Maybe an ancient war between Koopas and Yoshis introduced as a subplot
Then after that could be the trilogy’s finale, an adaptation of the most loved Mario game besides Odyssey:
SUPER MARIO GALAXY.

Bowser Jr. is a character that I want in a future film DESPERATELY as Bowser in the movie is missing pretty much all of his redeeming qualities and so I hope that if that happens Bowser will be shown to genuinely care for Bowser Jr. like in the games as this version of Bowser NEEDS at least ONE redeeming quality.

If I had to suggest an idea for the Mario sequel it would be an unlikely co-parenting plotline between Bowser, Peach and Junior. Bowser kidnaps Peach, she ends up spending time with Junior, Junior is not as bad as his father and she sees potential in him to be a good ruler of the Koopas.
Conflicts arise, Junior affectionally calls her "Mama Peach" because how she becomes a mother figure to him; and during the climax he stops idolizing his dad and goes his own way. If there's a third movie they could expand their complicated relationship further. We've seen with the first movie that Bowser has the potential to be kind of relatable. This could drive that point further.

If I were to guess what we'd most likely see in the sequel is more Yoshi's Island references. That's the series Nintendo is starting to push more in stuff like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo's most popular game, and Super Nintendo World, with a whole 3rd of the attractions being based on it. Plus, we have that whole post credits scene too. If I were to guess, Bowser Jr. would take the place of Baby Bowser. Although this isn't entirely faithful, they weren't exactly faithful when adapting the Donkey Kong references in the Super Mario Bros Movie. Along with Jr. being the main antagonist instead of someone like Baby Bowser, this can open up the opportunity for more Sunshine references, with him using his paint brush! Maybe E. Gadd can be worked in there too along with some more Luigi's Mansion references. Luigi's Mansion references were weirdly absent, but I have a feeling that we will surely see a little more of Luigi in the next movie, as he wasn't the main focus in the first movie so that they could more develop Mario and his journey.
Honestly despite how easy it is to take out on the movie for being very safe and no recent masterpiece, at the same time, it’s a Mario movie, anyone who expected some groundbreaking thought provoking pinnacle of theatre is way over their heads, and for being a mainline Mario adaptation, it’s great and a big love letter to Mario and other Nintendo references here and there
Nintendo first announced the cast back in 2021, and the Internet gave them lots of backlash for it, but it’s now THE highest grossing film so far in 2023. I’d consider it one of the biggest turnarounds in movie history.

A lot of people unfamiliar with the Mario franchise didn't seem to like it (especially critics) but that's because it was literally MADE FOR Mario fans. Everything about it was specifically catered to people who have a been long-time fans of Mario and Nintendo in general. The references they put everywhere in almost every scene weren't there to get attention and impress people, they were subtle blink-and-you'll-miss-it easter eggs that were purely put there to respect and honor the source material.
2:12 Super Paper Mario is still a fairly popular game. It sold very well because it was the first 2D Mario game on a home console in years, it was the first Mario game on an extremely popular and new Nintendo console, and overall, the game has plenty of appealing elements to it. So, Super Paper Mario would translate to screens pretty well if handled correctly, I think. And I think that a Paper Mario styled story could very much work, however, the problem is that Nintendo has been straying away from that type of storytelling for the Mario series for a while now, and simply don't the Mario series to be associated with any type of complex tale. It's really unfortunate too!

Not to mention the original Paper Mario is also where we discover Bowser’s crush on Peach, so if you think about it, the movie’s already taking inspiration from them.
Well if Rosalina appears in a future film they are going to have to at least allude to her surprisingly deep and sad backstory in some way or even better show it on screen. I am not sure who would voice her but maybe Teri Hatcher could work if she still has a career that is since in terms of movies she hasn’t been in one since 2019.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Bowser's infatuation with Peach, actually. The scenes of him and Kamek are gold, of course, but then the climax comes and he gloats to Mario about how he'll make him suffer like he suffered from being rejected by Peach and all I thought was "bro thinks he Tighten lmao"
I think that was the point. Bowser was completely delusional and couldn’t see that his actions would never make Peach love him. It was obvious to everyone what Bowser was except himself.

As someone who’s always been familiar with the franchise but never a Uber fan I appreciated that I felt I knew where certain parts of the movie were potentially from other pointient parts of the games. Even then Illumination has actually really stepped up their animation game in the last year and a half it seems.

Before I start watching; a thought came to mind: in Yoshi's Island, the first game in the game timeline, Luigi is the damsel in distress. In the Super Mario Bros. Movie, first entry in the Mario movieverse assuming there's a sequel, Luigi is also the one who needs rescue. Nice parallel.

Well if Rosalina appears in a future film they really need to at least allude to her surprisingly deep and sad backstory in some way or even better show it on screen. I am not sure who would voice her but maybe Teri Hatcher if she still has a career that is since in terms of movies she hasn’t been in one since 2019.
I find The Super Mario Bros Movie absolutely awesome! Definitely the best video game adaptation ever, beside the Sonic the Hedgehog movies! It really pays off with the origin story of Mario and Luigi coming to the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach being a tough but still kind princess (and I say her forced to marry Bowser is a nod to her being kidnapped), Jack Black's performance as Bowser is spot on, there are numerous Easter eggs, the list goes on! It beats the live-action Mario movie by a storm! And I cannot wait for more sequels and spin-offs! 😃
Mario and Peach’s relationship in this movie is honestly quite adorable hopefully they will kiss on the lips in the sequel

As a huge Mario/Nintendo fan such as myself, I really adore The Super Mario Bros. Movie and as much as I support Illumination and even defend Illumination, I have to say that it's one of Illumination's best films since the Despicable Me films, The Secret Life of Pets, both Sing movies, and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
I've heard of the sequel of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been postponed due to the ongoing strike, and I hope it remains alive.
And I'm looking forward to see Illumination's next film, Migration, especially more Nintendo movies from Illumination and Nintendo.

In my opinion, The Angry Birds Movie was the real first great video game movie adaptation. I'm so glad The Super Mario Bros. Movie is so great as well!
I already knew Jack Black as Bowser was gonna be perfect when the cast reveal happened. Bowser in games where he's allowed to speak always has really witty dialogue. All of Bowsers promotional material in the parental options for the switch make him a loving goof of a father. Bowser is villainous persistence personified. And Jack black, regardless of whatever movie he's in, gives 110% in his performance.
I think the best representation of how these guys knew their shit was the giant course Mario had to do to prove himself and the struggles he had completing it. How he had to do it over and over before he got it. It reminded me of the first time I ever played a level and how I screwed up again and again because there was always something I missed or couldn’t do each time.
But like all players and like Mario himself, we get better. We learn from our mistakes and we eventually get through the course. It’s a perfect way to showcase the levels that have made Mario so iconic and show how an ordinary guy from Brooklyn can hold his own against Bowser.
As someone who has played these games since I was little and will until I die, I left that theater very happy and excited for what the future holds in terms of movies for the Mario franchise. If they are as good as this movie, we can only go up from here.

This movie simultaneously surprised and disappointed me. I loved the animation, the characters, the music, the songs, Mario’s arc, his bond with Luigi, his relationship with Peach, his rivalry with DK, Peach being tough and badass, and of course, my man Bowser and his song, Peaches! Great movie adaptation of a video game series, no doubt. However, it’s still has its flaws. The pacing feels too rushed and the characters don’t really develop that much. The story goes by way too fast and it doesn’t feel like there’s enough moments between the characters to establish they’ve formed an alliance with each other. And while Luigi getting captured instead of Peach definitely works better, that still means Luigi gets sidelined and spends most of the movie stuck in a cage, which is a shame. Still, fun movie and definitely one of Illumination’s highs! 👨🏻🔧🧢❤💚👸🏼💖🍄🦍🍌🐲🔥

One of my points at the end of the video is about how I think this is a perfect origin story, since, while rushed in many places, it gets us introduced to all the most important characters and elements of the world. This way they can do whatever they want for the sequel without having to worry about introducing and explaining a bunch of stuff. This movie is exactly what it needed to be in order to springboard a good film franchise.
This version of Bowser reminded me of Bowser from Super Mario RPG. Tough on the outside, with a softer inner self.

Idk why but after watching Kung Fu Panda 4 recently I was just kinda meh with Po and Jack Black was fine with him of course but after watching KP4 and then going back to this, it just really made me appreciate Jack Black Bowser even more that I did already 🤩
I still do think the Sonic Movie 2 is the overall better movie but I agree that the Mario movie is the better adaptation. It stays faithful and does justice to the original source material. I really like Mario, Chris Pratt did a pretty good job and he is a really good main character. I dislike Seth Rogen’s performance as Donkey Kong and I don’t like his character in this movie but it doesn’t matter to me because I never really cared about Donkey Kong. Charlie Day did so good as Luigi and it is so disappointing and underwhelming how he barely is even in this movie, I get that they did that for the whole plot of the movie but I wish we saw more of him exploring and navigating the world before he got kidnapped. I wish we saw more of Mario and Luigi’s relationship to show more of why Mario is going on this adventure to save him and more of Luigi trusting and believing in his brother. That final battle scene where Mario and Luigi fight Bowser alongside each other could of been so much more epic and impactful if we got to see more of their brotherly love for each other, the scene feels very forced and it doesn’t feel deserved but instead it’s just kinda disappointing and underwhelming. They definitely focused more on Mario and Peach than Mario and Luigi but they still could of done more with that. Jack Black stole the show as Bowser, he did a amazing and great job. Bowser is both a menacing and intimidating but also a comedic goofy funny villain. I love the beautiful and amazing renditions of the Mario music from the games. I really wish the Sonic movie did something like that. The third act of the movie did feel kind of rushed and ended too quickly. The Mario movie was a fun, epic and entertaining blast! Me and my family had a good time watching the movie. Me and my sister actually yelled “NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!” in the theater when King Bob omb died. (Of course we yelled to ourselves because we didn’t want to be disruptive and annoying) a little girl next to us overheard us yelling and she began yelling “NNNNNOOOOO!!!l along with us. Despite it’s flaws and negatives. I still think the Mario movie was a great movie. The Mario movie and the Sonic Movie 2 are both of my favorite video game movies and the Detective Pikachu movie was really good as well. King Bob omb’s death is still sad though, I still am upset and depressed about that.

After the events of Super Paper Mario, Dimenio was able to utilize the last shadow of his power while controlling the chaos heart to destroy Mario's Universe. However, with his limited amount of power left, the worst he could do is make it as bland and "paper thin" in depth as possible by literally curing the entire land. Perhaps, it was a fate worse than death. This curse makes sense, as in TTYD, curses turned you into papery transformations; they were always small in TTYD, so they didn't do too much to Mario, but with the last ounce of power in the chaos heart, Dimentio was able to completely transform Mario's world into what we see in Sticker Star. Rogue Port doesn't exist anymore, and neither does any of the other interesting locations from the first 2 games. Sticker Star's plot basically functions as a much, much weaker re-telling of the events of the original Paper Mario. It was essentially a world reset. The game hides little reminders of a past life existing, like in the 5-1 trash pit, we see some final letters from Goombella and Parrykarry, but no one is this new world understands what it means. The Mario characters of this new world have been transformed into tragic characters suffering from a lack of knowledge of their past life and just general knowledge in general, as characters like Bowser forgot about his development from SPM and even forgot how to talk! Ever wondered why Dimentio also sounded like "dementia", well he basically causes a form of dementia for the whole Mario cast. Over time, Mario's world starts to develop and recover again, as we see in Color Splash and Origami King, even still including references from the first three games, but these are still only left over nods to remind you that a past, better life existed right under their noses, but they were none the wiser.

However, the concept of multiple dimensions from Super Paper Mario still exists. So, I guess his entire dimension was turned into a book because of SPM. I guess it also conveniently dropped in an alternate dimension of the Mario universe from Mario and Luigi. I know that's kinda stupid, espceially when you consider how Paper Mario has references to what is in the world of Mario and Luigi, but I am trying to make some sense of it. Cut me some slack.

what I liked the most in the mario movie was the mario rap song intro from the super mario bros super show and the voice actors for Mario and Luigi´s family who did some of the voices from that show.
I’ve also heard people complain about how Luigi being captured instead of Peach goes against the structure of the games, but those people just don’t understand why that makes no sense

I would LOVE to get a Wario Land movie, because it's never really explained how Wario met Waluigi. Having a small, forgotten spinoff series get a feature length movie would be amazing.
I also think Wario is the most hilarious Mario protagonist, so I could see an adventure comedy working amazingly
At this point, I have watched The Super Mario Bros. Movie seven times. Suffice to say that it is now my favorite movie.
Everything you said in this video is on point. The fact that Illumination and Nintendo crafted a delicate mix of fanservice, simplicity, and entertainment in this film goes a long way.
It seems like now, people (mostly on Twitter) are claiming that the SMB Movie is "not that good", although that seems to be a running trend of how stuff that was praised at launch is now open to scrutiny. Super Mario Odyssey is a notable example of this, but I digress.
This film _could_ have played it safe and be filled with typical Illumination fodder such as fart jokes/body humor. Likewise, the writers from Teen Titans Go could have just made the movie an over-the-top parody, but they took the opposite approach. I probably would have enjoyed the Mario movie in either scenario, but what we actually got is _much_ better.

I always knew that „The Super Mario Bros. Movie“ will be THE BEST videogame adaptation and the best movie of 2023! But I didn’t expected that it would end as one of THE BEST movies of all time! Now I want the NCU (Nintendo Cinematic Univers) to happen with „The Legend of Zelda“-franchise being it’s own universe!
This movie was great and exceeded my expectations. With all of that being said, what adaptation should Nintendo gun for next? I say Punch-Out, since it had the largest presence for a non-Mario IP in the Mario movie. Realistically though, Zelda or Metroid is probably next. What are you interested in, Rockotar?
I'd love to see either Metroid, Fire Emblem, or Earthbound.
Metroid is tricky because you have to make it interesting to watch and have a more in-depth plot than most of the games, but still keep the isolation and atmosphere of the original games. But if it is done right, it could be one of the best movies.
Fire Emblem is like adapting a book, the story is already good, you just need to find a way to trim the fat of the plot to fit it into a shorter time span. Yet again, if done right, it could be amazing.
Earthbound is the hardest because it is a game with a very specific style that you have to get right, or else the whole thing won't work no matter how well made it is. But it has the potential to genuinely be one of the greatest films ever made if executed properly.

I think the reason Jack Black works so well as bowser is because bowser, especially in the Mario and Luigi games, is a very Jack Black like character (I played bowser’s inside story so I would know)

I'm going to come right out and say it. This movie is a masterpiece of cinema.
Imagine if they brought back Wart from SMB2 for the sequel, that would be amazing.
I think the plot being about saving Luigi does him more justice than Peach's arc. Not that either is bad, it's actually pretty clever use of narrative constraints (which you know these writers had a TON of, working with a Nintendo IP) in a modern take.
I think my biggest problem with this movie is that Peach feels like she's artificially cool in this movie, she's not compelling at all because she doesn't make a single mistake in the entire movie, unlike Mario, it doesn't feel like she is in danger or needs Mario to save her, but I think she being captured in the second movie could work because now that Bowser sees that Peach doesn't want him, he'll force her to marry him, I just wanted to see her weak side in the movie and I really hope to see it in the sequel
I mean, we do see it briefly when Bowser threatens Toad to get Peach to marry him. But if they do that in the sequel, then I hope we go further into her relationship with Bowser (besides being sworn enemies-one sided crush). Also, I think it would be interesting to see Bowser interact with Mario more, furthering the development of their rivalry.
I kind of felt the “you got the obstacles course done the first time” was the only real ‘too much’ for me. I don’t care if you grew up there, you still gotta crawl before you’re doing ninja backflips.
I mean, a better excuse for it would be that she DESIGNED the obstacle course, but yeah, if you “get it right away” then it’s like, why even have it?
It's not just a Perfect Game adaption, It's a Cinematic Masterpiece.
It’s not live action so it’s already miles ahead of several movies
I remember going from extreme caution when the teaser trailer was coming out to absolute hype when the final trailer was coming. The rotten tomatoes critics score for this film just goes to show how pointless the rotten tomatoes are because this is supposed to be a movie adaptation of the Mario games and as a longtime fan of the franchise, I can tell they really succeeded, whereas the critics didn’t understand Mario and just based it on it as a film rather than a film about Mario which is what it clearly is. Even though I’m extra cautious about a potential Zelda movie, especially since it’s my favorite video game franchise ever, if Illumination can surprise me with the Mario movie, hopefully they can too with Zelda.

This was one of the best movie I ever saw. I'm glad to be an all time Nintendo fan because this opens the Pandora box, not only for the Mario universe, but for all of them. I didn't really care about the english cast because our french one was amazing. My only complain is that Sunshine was nowhere to be seen. Maybe some sequel will take place on Delfino Island ? Luigi being captured is a good way to prepare a potential Peach capture, sure, but also Mario's one. I need a Luigi's Mansion adaptation in my life. Also, now Donkey Kong can have his own development in his own movie, maybe against King K Rool ? I'm not familiar with them ^^ Sure, the movie didn't have the best pacing but it was for children, they couldn't make it a 2 hours movie. It was their first test to see how people will react to it and it's the 15th best box office movie ever (inflation aside). That says something. Nintendo can make billions with their franchises ! I can't wait to see what we'll get in the coming years. And the good things is, Nintendo takes its time to release a priduct. So I hope we won't feel overhelmed by their productions, like some other compagny I won't mentioned. April 5 will remain a beautiful day for me.

I've actually been thinking about where this franchise could go for building a wider universe without pushing off the Mario Brand and I can actually see some places we can go.
Obviously there is a Donkey Kong spin off movie begging to come from this as we have established DK and Cranky's personalities and drives along with Diddy Kong, Dixie and Chunky all making cameos in the fight sequence. I could see a film about K Rool wanting to take over the Kong nation for a multitude of reasons, their society of karting drives is too wild for him to put up with, he craves to have their banana horde all to himself, etc.
There's also the base sequel which I have a key idea into what we could do. After the events of the first movie, Bowser isn’t safe in the Mushroom Kingdom due to his army desperately trying everything to break him out (Koopa Kids, Bowser Jr, or even just Kamek). This leads Peach to decide they need him in a more safeguarded area, Sarasaland where Daisy is trusted with the safe keeping of this. Finding this out from their intelligence, whoever is currently in charge of Bowser's army can seek to the human world to find people who are willing to take on the Mario Bros and break into Bowser out to resume his plan, that would end up being the Wario Bros. Essentially I'm thinking of combining Mario Land 1 & 2 as that will give us the introduction to some of the more important Mario characters that didn’t make it into the first film (minus Rosalina).
Going further than that, we can then have ground work for a Wario Bros movie, as well as a Yoshi's Story film, and that should act for the ground work for this series of films.

Love the strong sense of brotherhood in the movie, especially in the end where Luigi surprisingly saved Mario. It reminds you that even though the older brother usually watches over the younger one, when the time comes the younger brother can watch over the order one too.

Can you make a video on Kung Fu Panda 2? Even if you prefer the other Kung Fu Panda movies, you can't deny just how brilliant the second is. The weaving of Po's backstory, making him find out something traumatic and being forced to try to overcome it immediately, the weight of expectation on him, having to succeed in his pursuit to defeat Shen or the entire country and his dream get destroyed, how Po has to learn to stop fighting his emotions, which Shen refused to do, just how terrifying and menacing Shen ends up being, I could go on. I'm gonna have to learn editing and shit so I can make a video essay on it myself as it isn't only my favorite Dreamworks movie, hut currently my 2nd favorite movie of all time, only behind Into the Spiderverse. Even if you don't even consider making a video, I'd highly suggest a rewatch so you can soak everything in as much as possible

I need to rewatch a lot of them, but outside of the first two Despicable Me movies, I'm not sure if there are any I remember being good. Like I said, I need to rewatch them to know for sure though

I'll say this while the film isn't flawless far from it in terms of a Mario movie and even crazier a Mario movie made by illumination I'm pretty sure that this is probably the best we could have gotten and I'm happy we got it hopefully in the future the quality will continue to improve and we'll get a magnificent Mario series on the big screen
I think my only complaint was I wish there was more screen time for Luigi cause I'm bias and Luigi is my favorite character but overall the movie was great and I love how they adapted a game with little to no story (aside Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion) into something really interesting and fun!
And, as a Luigi's Mansion fan, I hope they make a movie of that and it's just as good as this, if not better!

It’s incredible how the same company that made movies like minions 2015, the secret life of pets, and the grinch 2018 would go on to make the Mario movie.
I was pleasantly surprised that they remembered Wrecking Crew, and that Mario was in it.
0:05 I'm really cut the Sonic movies some slap because the first Sonic movie had a pretty low budget and writers of the first Sonic movies were writing two movies at the same time ( Violent Night & Sonic 2) and I heard writing both of those movies were like hell for them.
Hmm, idk about perfect. I do think it might become perfect once we get more Super Mario Bros. Movies because I definitely want more of them and really flesh out the worlds, characters, more exploration, etc.
In my opinion, the best route for a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie would either be an adaptation of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Super Mario RPG, or Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
