2:20 is where it starts.
I'm growing mini cabbages in containers over winter - they're looking fantastic!
Awesome! Let us now how they grow!
are mini cabbages an actual type or do you just grow regular ones and pick them early?
Wisconsinhomestead They are a type, only get smaller sized heads.
There are several smaller varieties that are great for pots. They naturally produce smaller heads but that's great for someone like me who lives alone cos I hesitate to buy whole "standard" cabbage heads as it's just hard for me to use it up.
Darkfalz do a video and let us see.
During the current coronavirus lockdown, I am looking to do indoor gardening for the first time ever. I really appreciate your honesty in this video in fact I subscribed and liked the vid. One thing I learned here is that cabbage is not something that I need to bother with at this time with my circumstances. Too demanding for now. Maybe later. Thanks buddy!
I love your videos...the quality, the info and your attitude. Keep up the great work!!!
These guides are so complete and informative :-)
Thank you! I try to be as thorough as possible because the information is so important!
Thank you for making this video
Just watched UA-cam video. Gonna try my cabbage in pots. Thanks for the info.
Great video! I'm growing cabbage in containers right now in my Florida garden. So far so good but I think I'll take what I just learned and fertilize tomorrow.🙋
I had a feeling you would say all that lol. Im on the right track. Thanks luke!
Thank you
thanks, first time watching your video
I’m new at bucket planting for all vegetables like cabbage, carrots , turnips, and potatoes.
Can you mix 1/3 topsoil 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 cow manure for when you transplant your seedlings to buckets : but still add fertilizer during the growing season
Thanks
You got great videos
Nice!😊
you should definitely show the results of all these talk.
I know because 3 cabbages in one little look like 3 gallon container 🤔
Yes, another way I grow cabbage successfully is by planting them in containers. It works and solves the lack of space problem:-)
exactly! If you have the space, and you have the soil, you might as well get the food!
Do you plant in spring or fall? Are they cold tolerant?
How soon can u start harvesting the outer leaves. we are growing in the ground and really enjoy the outer leaves too.
5 gallon buckets from Lowes and Home Depot work just fine.
Hey MIgardener, I just wanted to ask for your advice on my soil ratio for my Serrano pepper plant. I'm growing it indoors from a seed and I picked up some stuff to help it out. Right now I'm planning on using a mixture of regular potting mix, some Ecoscraps vegetable fertilizer, a store bought bag of compost, and some sand. How much would you use, if any, of each to give the plant it's biggest chance of survival?
The potting mix cost more than the cabbage if we grow one in a container
depends on the variety and your location
Yes,
You can reuse/replenish the potting mix. You can also make your own potting mix if you are going to have many containers.
If you truly want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find excuses.
would the same size container/1 plant per pot be the same more something like broccoli or brussel sprouts?
Oh wow I planted two in the same size pot will they be ok?
At 7:30 it sounded like you were giving a recipe for a work out smoothie. lol
HAHAHA It totally does.
Can you plant cabbage any time of the year?
That's what happened with my cabbage the one year I planted, not enough sun in my garden area. I had the cabbage planted in the wrong spot. Ah well, no garden plot in this year, I'll have to wait until we move to the family farm to plant again, anything I grow now is all in pots and I'm not doing cabbage in a pot. LoL
Greensand? I'll have to Google that. Never heard of it!
Hi Luke, really enjoy watching your videos, they are so informative. Just a quick question regarding the use of Calcium in growing cabbages. I read its very important to provide extra to avoid clubroot. Any thoughts on this?
Somewhat true, but what is universally accepted is having a well draining mix that is packed around the roots. That is the best way to reduce the risk of clubroot.
Wow i got really large cabbage growing in containers
Tell us your secret. I am growing a cabbage for the first time. I have it rooting in water and will be transplanting it in a pot soon. I need all the helpful advice, thanks.
i have clay heavy soil in the ground...will it like that or do i need to add soil ? $$
My plants love warm water and cheap ammonia
Does this still apply if I'm starting my Cabbage in a pot to transfer to the ground later?
I use ashes for nitrogen its the best
I think the sun where I am is pretty much done for the rest of the year. Hopefully i can still harvest something.
Growing in my house and 2 of the 4 red cabbage plants have large papery pale blotches? Do you know what it is? What can I do?
I have some dehydrated bananas can I use those?
I’m not so new to gardening just new to growing cabbages, in my mind, they grow cabbages in Skyrim lmao, how hard can they possibly be!!! Well the answer is not so easy 😂😂
Im dead! I love skyrim
Quick question Do you water watermelons every two days or every 4 days
Great tip, always thought cabbage need to be in the ground. Will give this a try
Good luck Andrew!
Thank you for explaining this issue. I'm having an issue with my tomatoes, green beans, peppers leaves ' are curling like the tip of the old fashioned elf shoes. It's a new raised bed this year with compost from a horse ranch. Thanks
It sounds like too much water or it is too hot. Those would be my first guesses.
Hmmm, we did have unusual wet spring, then hot
Is it reversible?
when do you harvest cabbage
Green sand? Is there a substitute for green sand? Thank u much
What is green sand?
What is the brand name of soil do you use?
Do you give trifecta to your trees when transplanting in the ground or in general
We feed them when we transplant to help reduce transplant shock, but then we also feed them when they are established to push fruit production.
My backyard floods and other than that is a huge hill lol
What do you do with the soil in the containers after your last harvest of the plants? I've heard not to reuse it. Can you just amend it and reuse it?
dirt is dirt. mother nature doesn't care if you reuse dirt. amend it and plant again. if you have problems with pests or unwanted mold. simply bake the dirt in your oven at about 200 degrees F for a few mins. my mother did this all the time for her house plants to kill gnat eggs. hope that helps, 3 years late🤣
thank you for this. do you have any info on potato towers? I am thinking container growing us for me.
Potato towers are a waste of time. Do not bother. They are a "pinterest thing"
MIgardener | Simple Organic Gardening & Sustainable Living
have to admit I've always planted my potatoes in large pots or large cloth grow bags, 40 litre and up, and I've always had decent harvests even when the care has been a lil lacking ;), but I'm interested to know why you don't recommend towers?
Hey Luke, you need a new cabbage video that isn't container specific. :)
You were growing Kapinath lol
What happened when you planted cabbage altogether in a tray in the house ??
how do you get the cabbages to ball up mine arnt forming they are all leaf
You have to talk to them, tell the jokes!
3:37 gave me chill bumps and made me bite the inside of my cheeks.
Hey I was just wondering is it to late to plant seed at this time I'm in Wisconsin close to the border of Michigan?
Absolutely not too late. You have loads of time!
+MIgardener | Simple Organic Gardening & Sustainable Living great thanks because I just planted about 300 seeds and just wandering if they will reach maturity
i wll be putting seeds today after 2 hours :) just soaking now
im in zone 10a can i start growing from seed now
you can grow anything anytime so long as you have water, sunlight, and protection from severe heat or cold.
How much fertilizer should you use in a 5 gallon bucket. A lot of fertilizer directions are for good size gardens and cubic ft as well as tons of soil. I need help figuring out the amount on a smaller scale.🤷🏽♀️
Me too. And when to start fertilizing each month…
How about Garlic in a container???
Add 1-2 T of blood meal
MUFF CABBAGE!
I need some help. I think i planted to many seeds per little container and wanted to see what you think and if it was a bad move isthere a way to fix it. I would post a picture but i dont know how.
Once they start to grow you can separate them.
@@Deligamer0 wont that kill them since the roots will be all tangled up?
@@christophersalinas9336 I started mines in the house by dumping a few seeds in a old milk jug and maybe a week and a half ago I separated them and added a little root toner to them, which ended up being 7 separate plants and they are doing great and I have them outdoors now with my pea and tomato plants. I'm in Ga, don't know if the climate helped or not.
Awsome thanks for the advise im gonna try it
Why does zuchini plants only make male flowers
hi there!you don't mention when to sow the seeds???
Take seed, drop it in soil, water, wait. #magic
+MIgardener | Simple Organic Gardening & Sustainable Living thanks but my town temperature is 36 to 41 can i grow???
Uzair Sheikh Cabbage is a cold loving crop and should actually do very well!
Love how your fingers are dirty!
Please don’t talk so fast
Too much talking
what is green sand?
