I havent touched my phase since they first came out. I went the Rane 12 route. glad they finally worked out all the kinks. This at least inspires me to update the firmware and try them out again.
I'm really interested in Phase, and I thought the the "Ultimate" bundle is what I needed since it comes with more than 2 remotes, but they are just backups.... I wish they would come out with a 3 or 4 channel option for those who use more than 2 decks.
Everything you mentioned is the reason why I was hesitant about upgrading to Phase, along with the price. But, if all those improvements are legit, now I’m reconsidering Phase…🤔
Backspinning with phase. Should it even be attempted? I’m assuming most Dj’s back spin a record at the exact spot where the phase is located? Thoughts anyone?
Glad to know you're finally using Phase. I think it's a great product- in my opinion it's just a matter of time before most traditional turntable DJs will be on Phase.

My phase were delivered last week. Set up was easy but I noticed some calibration issues. However, I learned yesterday that if I update the firmware, I can double tap the phase to calibrate them. I've yet to try that but will probably do so this weekend. One thing I didn't think about was how the transmitters would get in the way. I usually use the record label area to manipulate the speed to fine tune the timing during a mix. With the transmitter taking much of that area, I had to adjust where I did that. I need to play around with it more to get a better feel for them.
Yes that is a big deal if you are used to using the spindle to pitch bend. Luckily I've always been the type of DJ to slow down the platter with my thumb instead of using the spindle.
I didn't want to buy it as well because of the drift. But I saved lots of $$$ on control vinyl and carts. However, even with the new intergration my phase still suffers from drift especially when I do whip tears or prisms.
I might look into now, I thought it was a gimmick and wasn't interested for the simple fact I had no use for it. But now since it's not easy to get replacement cartridges for my 1200s I will look into investing in Phase
@@PDot but what about all the vinyl in your collection? How are you going to listen to that vinyl if you move forward with phase. Any alternatives and suggestions to the m447’s would be much appreciated.
I got a pair of rane 12s but because of the scratch algorithms and drift issues (rane 12s dont drift but the scratch algorithm is funky IMO) Im abandoning the 12s and just copped the reloops. I personally dont have a problem with traditional DVS and its kinda preferred.
The 400 dollar question is tho, to me personally, is the phase DVS response between software and timecode actually any better than DVS timecode vinyl? Seems like physics makes this impossible. Because with a controller that just has spinning platters, then you have the software talking directly to the motor controllers to report speed and position as well as subtle variances that could either be the dj pitch bending, or the pitch control changing. Whereas any solution running DVS, even something like this, you will always have to wait for the device to register the rotation change, the rotation change relays to the software, the software registers the change and adjusts bpm on your laptop. Seems like it would be no different using a timecode vinyl vs using phase. Does the USB integration actually help to overcome this inherent delay in any dvs setup? Has anyone used phase with rekordbox? I was using traktor, decided to jump ship and try out some Pio gear, and now I am playing with Serato and Rekordbox as I also purchased some gear that can do both, and I was thinking about picking up phase. Just wondering if it is actually so much better than DVS, that it is worth 400 bucks vs 30 bucks for two control vinyls.
The improvement in responsiveness is definitely noticeable compared to Phase sending the timecode via the RCA cables. Feels more consistent and on par with using DVS vinyl. You made a point to compare the $400 for Phase compared to $30 for a pair of DVS vinyl, which I don't think is a fair comparison. Phase not only replaces the control vinyl, but also the need for turntable cartridge/stylus. So say you go through 2 pairs of control vinyl a year, that's $60, then add in replacement stylus, for quality cartridges like Shure or Ortofon that can be anywhere between $150-300 for a pair, you're already breaking about even. Within 2 years Phase has already paid for itself. Although this is my opinion taking into account how much I DJ/play gigs, and how often a DJ like myself would need to run through these items.
@@PDot so I decided to jump on it found good price on the ultimate package. Just got it today, need to charge up first but I am stoked to check it out. At this point I have enough controller hardware to run Serato, Rekordbox, and Traktor 3 so I am stoked to get to try it out on all 3 and especially interested in the Serato USB integration. Curious to see if it can work almost as good as like a Ran One or Rane 12 setup where the platter motors are somehow directly mapped in the software. I may finally have to warm up to serato if it works well. I'm also curious if the usb integration will allow me to cheat and use the ddj-sr with t-tables even tho it has no inputs for dvs like the sr2 and rr have. So yah as always, good times experimenting, should be hours of fun :D
@@tylerkepple640 hi, I don’t think that the motors of the Rane One are directly used to compute the position of the track, because the motor still runs when you held the record with your hand. I think that there is a sensor in the circular black holder on the record.
@@pamplemoussemk2 well i bought a set of phase remotes, unfortunately between work, moving, and health issues that had me in the hospital a couple of times (and thankfully are resolved now) I haven't really had a chance to play with them properly.
