@@robertsyrett1992, I'm pretty sure that the difference comes down to the "feel" of the record. Plus, there is a big difference between using an 8.5 inch platter and a 12 inch platter, such as the difference in moving the 8 inch platter's edge an inch vs the 12 inch. Finer control is also easier on the 12 inch because of this. Also, while i'm not sure if CDJs typically have spinning platters these days, on an actual turntable you can make fine adjustments to the track syncing by lightly dragging your finger on the platter to slow down the track that's ahead slightly, allowing the other track to catch up. Yes there's usually a sync button now, but many DJs prefer to use this method as it allows them a bit more control over whats happening. I believe that is the reason they pushed back the release date for those that pre ordered. The original release date was sometime in September now its the 28th of November. Fingers crossed. ..
DJ Jazzy Jeff you are a true icon that continues to push your craft. Much respect. This new product looks amazing but I see one issue that no one is talking about. Is there still a way to skim/scroll forwards and backwards through the selected track that is playing? As far as I can see the Phase device can only start the track. How do you cue or skim through a track without a seperate controller?
Yes, the Phase DVS controllers are awesome, I use them very often and they are reliable, battery life is great, and I don't have to burn up my expensive phono needles on DVS control tone vinyl - Phase is a vinyl DJ life saver
Let's bring a bunch of DJs in and set up the turntables and play with the one peice of technology they've been waiting all their lives for. What could go wrong? 3 hours later - look, I can scratch upside down, I can scratch from across the room. Let's see what happens if I spin the record sideways. 2 hours after that - SERCURITY!!! They WON'T LEAVE!!!
WTF! I didn't even realize there was no needle at all until you started to spin around with the record in your hands and the music was still playing. This is very good. I mean, for folks like you who do not neglect technology but still NEED that human touch while playing, mate, this is amazing!
Phase is definitely nice and I plan to add it to my arsenal. But I gotta say I’m in love with my Rane Twelve’s!! If you haven’t used them yet you need to give them a shot.
Jeff I totally agree with you because I'm a turntablest too, but keep it real with them & tell them if they make it smaller/lower profile they will get more all around sales from Trick,Battle & Blend Dee Jays... Salute!!!👑✨👑 Phase: You are the cutting edge, so lets really push the envelope now...
How much smaller does that thing need to get? It’s currently half the size of a ketchup packet, if that. Any smaller, you’ll need a microscope to transfer it from it’s carrying case to the turntable, and heaven help you if you sneeze...
@@Qu35t10n3v3ryth1n9 Absolutely not they have been doing that since 2017 the main issue I see is to being able to access the stem in the middle of the platter for serious blending & mixing... Real DJ's use the whole turntable as their musical instrument... I hate to say this , but that's wht The Rane 12's have extra long stems they actually get it!...Sorry to aware your paid advertising / marketing team's feelings, but it make a hell of a lot of sense. Great Product for beginners👑✨👑
I posted on their Facebook page a while ago, and I hope they listen to my suggestion. If they were able to put a rubber nub in the hole that could grip the spindle and extend it above the device so that for inexperienced DJ's that don't know how to beat match with nudging and slowing the platter down, they could use the spindle and stop complaining. If they did that, it would dominate the market completely.
@@DJSkunkieButt if you wanna be honest the whole system is over sized because it's powering a LED lol They can really make it the size of a vinyl sticker & as flat as 2 quarters stacked... All I'll say if they don't someone else will who is way more funded like Rane...#Factz...👑✨👑
I preorder this cool stuff. looks very nice and I'm D.J. since 1985 using timecode since final scratch. Jeff is long time active great D.J. ..... very good :-)
It will enhance the game if not change it completely. The main distraction I use to go bananas over was vibrations. House parties were a challenge back in the day. This is definitely a tool you'd want to have.
@@djhabibi04 You can also gently touch platter to do corrections while blending two records, works fine. The only problem is when you are into a kind of turntables like the Technics and you hit a venue with reloops or Pioneers it fills a bit diffrent, you get into it
What about the sound? Okay, so it seems to be awesome. It's the first video I watched, so I don't know how the technology works. Does it sound as good as vinyl? I mean with a needle. What I love about vinyl is the "realness" of the sound. Even, if you had no speaker, but you put your ear to the needle on a record, you hear the track. It is physically there. It is real, not emulated. Maybe it doesn't matter, but I would be curious to hear the difference, or better, to hear no difference.
A very valid question. This would not work with a regular printed Vinyl disc. Without getting super technical, very few turntabalists still play records. Very little new music is printed on vinyl and whats printed is pretty much expensive collectors stuff, not new tracks. What DJ's use today is something called DVS(digital vinyl system). Someone can probably explain it a bit better than i can. Short version is that the turntable pretty much acts like a controller for mp3 files on your computer. The needle only keeps the disc in sync with the track you are playing from the computer. When you start a track on the computer, the computer remembers at which exact point the needle was at that time. That way when you move the disc forward or backwards for a scratch move the computer can translate those movements to the mp3 track playing on the computer
@@johanberner4211 But surely they use WAV or FLAC audio file formats (lossless audio quality) rather than the substandard MP3 (lossy audio quality), for the sake of fidelity?
Ok, makes sense. Get your Point. Know about DVS. I know thats true for a lot of DJs, especially from the hiphop- genre, scratching on CDJs is just not the same. ;-) There is still a lot of good music pressed on vinyl though. A lot of high quality electronic music, but also a lot of hiphop. Most music, and especially the mainstream stuff, rather not. @@johanberner4211
@@funguy8801 Does not matter that much. Sure the music quality of lossless is better than 320 kbps or VBR mp3's, but in ayour typical club or festival setting you would loose much of that detail anyways. They only care about cranking the bass up to 11.....

DJing (beatmatching, scratching, beat juggling) is a skill which certain people cannot learn with a computer, midi pads, DVS, or with a "controller." A controller is just that...controls what the "DJ" does. Without learning and experiencing the TRUE essence of a DJ, you're just playing music. Back to basics DJing is long gone with the new technology and as a DJ from the 80's, I have to embrace it!. But I REFUSE to lose the skills I learned through the authenticity of DJing

You know it's still knob turning sync button on the system right? You know that it's now simply a rane twelve right? All types of people are going to buy this and your evaluation of a "real DJ" has everything to do with marketing. I've seen "real DJs kill a DDJ SB controller. Are they not real DJs?
Thats not what he said Bawbag . Turntable skills are one of the key elements of Hip Hop. And Dj Jazzy Jeff is one of the pillars. Didn't you know ? Shit . You better back up off the dick...
Well said 💯!
That was dope asf when he starting spinning in a circle. Mind Blown!!! 🤘🏾🤯
Only dude who stayed real from the good days 👊 tbh I dnt bother with wills chan he tries too hard and jazz just has so much soul they had to adapt new technologies to harness it
Your loss. Will is killing it
MaximusD00M you do realise this tech is “old” and has nothing to do with Jazzy Jeff he’s just trying it out like others over the past year or so 🙄
@@DJCrisisUK *dorky snort* you do realise I'm not speaking literally
MaximusD00M then maybe write it in a way that can’t be taken literally. I’m more than certain all the people liking your post now believe this is coming out because of Jeff and also based on your comment. People are stupid and the comments on UA-cam could go either way.

So glad I found this channel! Definitely one of the best djs to ever do it..subbed!
2:37 half the ppl under 30 had no idea why this was impressive at first.
Yeah we don't because vestax already made decks that can be played at an angle ;)
I smiled just as bright as jazzy Jeff when he lifted the table, dope ass mix too!!!
I was DJing a bit competition yesterday and I needed this because bboys go nuts on the floor which causes rumble. This is needed in the culture!
THIS isn't needed. the rane twelve already eliminates floor rumbles and so do cdjs and comtrollers
kris wilkins true but this is universal. The Rane only works with Serato. Learn from Microsoft and bill gates. Make something for all users. Get double the money. This is a business and the business people will win
With this thing you dont need to bring two big 12" size controllers for the same expirience. It's like a dvs box and two timecodes that fit any existing turntable setup. This thing is portable.
MrYakubov exactly! That’s why it’s going to sell. Portable reliability is selling!
@@bboymac84 Idk, without turntables it defeats it's purpose, which is scratching and keeping timecode/pitch up and down.
U need something that turns or u are better off using internal timecode in traktor.
DJ Jazzy Jeff makes their product better...and not the other way around... Jazz Jeff...is still the Master DJ ...indeed
Eventually people might catch on to that and probably make something even greater
I cant beleive what I just saw...the GAME of Djing has just left the earth..you are now creating music in mid-air I LOVE IT!! I dont Dj as much anymore (music producer) but im going to incorporate this in my set. WOW!!!!
It’s gonna change everything for the people that make cartridges for turn tables. That’s about it.
Seamless transition to new technology, WITHOUT breaking the foundation of mixing n cutting. As always, DJ Jazzy Jeff, leading the way & has done for quite sometime. Adaptability + Genuine love for the Game = Durability = Relevance = DJ Jazzy Jeff = Legend!!
this technology is bananas.......just imagine the levels of creativity and showmanship this will ad to djs routines

Yup, unfortunately. Passed in '09.
This is amazing. No more vinyl, no more record bags, no need for CDJs as well as turntables, no more people bumping the table making the needle bounce everywhere
Lame.
That was amazing. Next, Robot DJs.
It already exists. I get weekly playlists on Spotify with recommendations based on all the songs I've listened to. I discover new and good music all the time this way. This is just the beginning. Next is automatic mixing.
@@waxmaster-c Automatic mixing already exists. DJs and music enthusiasts in the know, know where to find this software. I used to professionally DJ. Now, if I wanted to, I can use this software with both eyes closed and fake it like I'm DJing. The mixes, most of the time, if you know how to select songs are very smooth.
You can literally rotate with the vinyl! Lit af!

There are no records at all my dude.
That part 😂
I don't even know the first thing about how to DJ. But even I can realize how much of a big step this is.
Was at the DJ Expo in Atlantic City this past August and I’ve seen more people at the Phase booth hands on doing their thing on the tables than any other showcase. Not Rane, Pioneer, Denon.
while there, one of their setups was not working properly. When I asked one of their demonstrators to help me out and figure out the problem he didn't even try
I left completely disappointed and underwhelmed
I believe that is the reason they pushed back the release date for those that pre ordered. The original release date was sometime in September now its the 28th of November. Fingers crossed. ..
Glad I kept my 1210s.😎

The revolution is here..
Soo..it seems you can't do a needle drop with this. What's the sense in this then over using a midi controller based system ?
Essentially, it's just a MIDI controller that mimics a real table's physics and handling with extreme accuracy.
@@compucat If I understood well, it's more accurate than MIDI.
Great demo. I agree with you on this change in the game. That was BANANAS!!!
no turntable...you got a microwave? a sit and spin?
😂😂😂
I almost didn't recognize him without his sunglasses
Loving this! Props to the true OJ! There will never be another! DJJJ!
Needle stock just plummeted

Any smaller, you’ll need a microscope to transfer it from it’s carrying case to the turntable, and heaven help you if you sneeze...
lower profile? Did you miss the part when he was scratching with the vinyl off the deck in midair? come on now.

Benny Shipp DON’T HATE! Get to taking advantage of this awesome tech. Grow with it...
It will enhance the game if not change it completely. The main distraction I use to go bananas over was vibrations. House parties were a challenge back in the day. This is definitely a tool you'd want to have.
Only problem I see here is if you’re used to twisting the spindles to fine tune the tempo mid mix!
djhabibi04 true but you can learn to nudge. Not a big problem
DJ Boolix No doubt! But it’s going from twisting a spindle to pinching a block of plastic (which is nobig deal, sure you’d get used to it).
@DJ Boolix
yeah, but their is no spindle to grab once you put the phase on the record!
That's the problem!
@@djhabibi04 You can also gently touch platter to do corrections while blending two records, works fine. The only problem is when you are into a kind of turntables like the Technics and you hit a venue with reloops or Pioneers it fills a bit diffrent, you get into it
Solution: make a custom spindle that's longer
Awesome.. Dj Jazzy Jeff is one of my Favs.
Great click bait tittle! I had to find out what it was. Props
That was some super click bait. Like damn, what changes everything???
It ain't "click bait" when the content is rewarding bro.
"click bait" is when the content is vacuous and unfulfilling.
You put me onto Ableton 8 years ago and now this. Thanks again.
Fun Guy Yes, serious DJs use lossless formats.
Good seeing Dj. Jazzy Jeff scratching still as in his prime.
How much?
$350 for the two transmitter and receiver set, however you'll still need Serato or Traktor a laptop and interface
Don't matter how much... it's too much!
@@GASH_one "Ortofon Concorde Club Cartridge Twin Pack" $335.99. Seems priced competitively. Or, you just think all vinyl and needle wear costs are too much?

Raspex. I am glad I saw this through you ,as you are one of the one of the original historical figures in the discipline of turntablism. Respect to the legend-always Big ups!
I was lucky to see this master performing in the Paradiso in Amsterdam. I was always there for the hip hop party but this time DJ Jazzy Jeff performed a surprise show so we didnt know he was going to be there or else it would be too crowded.
What is the quality of the sound? Is it still analog? 😀 I don't think so 😀

I love DJ Jazzy Jeff. He seems like a great guy and open minded as well. 🚪🤸♂️
We could experiment with what the "vinyl" is made of now I bet using different materials that either more slippy to touch or more grippy or super light etc etc will bring new scratches
