I was a geek and when I was 16 in 1969 I worked part time on Saturdays fixing TVs and Stereos. The shop I worked at sold the Quasar works in a draw that had modules that were interchangeable. We worked on all brands. I even made some house calls myself. I had a license to do this from the state. I went on to an enlistment as an avionics technician and then electronics and telecommunications till I retired.
My favourite memory of a crt tv is one that used to sometimes start making a whining kind of sound.
I put an x on the top to show where to thump it.
Always worked.
High voltage oscillation, from the flyback transformer.
The best tube television with the best picture was Sony Trinitron. I owned a few that lasted for many years.
I collect CRTs. They are awesome.
i really wish i had one still.....always love my classic touch
Tubes had become shorter, not like flat screens mind you, but less obtrusive, deflection angles improved, but by then, flat screens had taken the lead.
