nice video and quite balanced imo. I think David leadbetter is ok in small doses. Hes like Marmite you either like him or you don't lol. I agree that he did a wonderful job with Sir Nick, you it the nail on the head. He's too mechanical and tampers too much hence the break down between him and Lydia Ko and to some extent with Michelle until she took control of her putting. Hoping Lydia and Michelle make a comeback in 2021 and have a good season. That would spark the LPGA tour a light :) In regards to David, I respect his views but I've kinda gone away from the tech side and gone with Shawn Clements' videos hes more of a feel coach imo. ^_^ happy New Year Anaks and Good Golf :)
I played Div 1 college golf from 1980 -1985 and moved to Orlando , Florida after graduation to play the mini- tours and try and take my game to next level . At that time Leadbetter was the hottest new instructor for high level players . Unlike a Butch Harmon type instructor who took a players natural swing and instincts and tried to give a player a better understanding of their swing fundamentals needed to correct their own game in the heat of battle . Leadbetter taught more of a system trying to mirror certain positions in a players swing which helped many students but '' lead poisoned '' just as many . When players get at the very top level of the game getting worse by making big swing changes is much easier than getting better .
He is a walking contradiction. There’s a Golf Digest from the early 2000’s that had 3 consecutive Leadbetter tips, in unrelated stories. Every tip contradicted the last tip and he said they were all ‘absolutes’. The guy is a joke.
Coaching and technical instructions are closely related but not identical. I feel Leadbetter may have not always clearly define the balance between thos aspects when teaching to those young phénoms. You have to teach them both the swing, and the way to scoring.
The basic mechanics should be automatic then explore a little bit some greens with slope and playing in the wind. What do I know not much only once but hit it straight anyway. Sawadee Khap.🤠
I would say yes it makes more sense for Ledbetter to work with players with established games. He seems to get into the nuances of the swing. The basics/fundamentals of the swing apply to ALL players and those fundamentals do not change. The most important aspects of a beginning golfer are obviously the basics. Dial in the fundamentals of the swing then learn how to play golf
I hear you! Appreciate the recommendation! You very well might see it. I will say my next golf stories video that I’m working on is based on one of your recommendations from the past. 👀
@@anaks247 much appreciate the reply, great contents as always! looking forward to your next upload! and so surprised to hear my comment would actually influence your contents, really made my day
They once asked Snead if he had a swing coach. He said "find one that can beat me and I'll take lessons from him." Most of the big name instructors from 20 years ago were grifters and snake oil salesmen.
Leadbetter is garbage. I wasted too much time in my youth trying to force my natural swing into contortions with his "tips". I had given it up my junior year in high school and embraced my own learning and dropped to near scratch. Today I'm on the plus handicap side and the only thing I look from instructors (if I ever go see them) is if they can shut up and run a camera so I can review my own footage with monitors.
Ahh the longest trousers in golf... Agree with you great businessman - yes. Great coach - no. Established his brand with Faldo and rode it all the way to the bank...

Very well said. Happy New Year to you too, and thanks for watching!
David's book The Golf Swing is one of the all time favorites!
All the current instructors and coaches owe him a debt of gratitude.
David's VHS videos gave me the swing of a pro, he's the best
His simple tips in the magazines have helped me tremendously.

The guy is a joke.
The fact that he teaches a new swing (the A swing) says everything.

Great content! Can you make a clip talking about Jordan Spieth?
Thanks! Possibly, I did talk about him briefly in my Hal Sutton video, but if he continues to struggle, I’ll put something together.
Definitely in the top five teachers of all time …The proof is in the pudding….

LOL this one especially

Golf is a game of biomechanics, I don’t see how a coach can be too mechanical.
