To see someone actually react to “I am your father” after all this time was priceless! The biggest plot twist in movie history hit you guys in the face! Great reactions! ❤
Definitely one of the very biggest plot twists in moviedom if not the biggest one. I agree though that Sixth Sense and Fight Club had huge movie twists.
@@Frostrazor I think the point is that Star Wars was such an event in cinema that even people who have never seen the films tend to have heard the "I am your father" line. For example, I've watched Empire Strikes Back with friends who had never seen it before and they were watching it literally in expectation of the famous line. Both Fight Club and 6th Sense were huge films but neither had anything like the cultural impact of Star Wars and so most people will watch those films today for the 1st time and the twists will still catch them by surprise.
This reaction was a real treat! Most people who haven't watched Star Wars have still seen pictures of Yoda or have already heard of the "I am your Father" line. It was great to see your suprise to both of these reveals.
Little fun fact… When Leia said “I love you” Han was intially suppose to say something like “love you too” but Harrison Ford felt like that woyld be too cheesy and not something Han would say so he improvised the “I know” instead and George Lucas liked it and kept it. Really enjoying these first time watch sessions with you guys, may the Force be with the both of you!
Ford is famous for his improvisations and even writes them in to his contract, that he gets to try his lines different ways, even if the director likes the take in the can. You can get clips of his famous lines being said different ways, on UA-cam.
@@Tijuanabill Right, like shooting the guy with the swords instead of facing a duel in Indiana Jones (Raiders of the Lost Ark). Though it wasn't really an on-spot improvisation. Ford was actually suffering from dysentery at that time and couldn't shoot too long scenes because of that. So he suggested to change the scene and Spielberg agreed. In the end it even saved some money and became one of the most iconic scenes of the movie.
@@tammyford2357 Oh, that's soo true. Which makes it even funnier, since apparently originally it was a cliche scene, that just became iconic thanks to the incredible actor.
The Yoda meeting is a throwback to the "stranger on the road" trope from Samurai films. The master would test the student on the student's journey to meet the master, while the student didn't know his real identity. It was usually some test of character, to see if the student was worthy of the power they would obtain, via knowledge of the sword.
The two of you together seemed to really get these films the way they were intended. It’s always fun to watch anyone watch Star Wars, but that you have no spoilers is particularly fascinating to watch. Seeing you go through the same discovery of Yoda that I did as a kid was incredibly fun.
Ya'll are WRONG 20-30% of the time you try and figure what's going on in these movies...AND I LOVE IT!!! You let movie geeks get to remember what it's like to see something for the first time. It means you REALLY are watching these movies for the first time and really giving your honest, honest reaction. PLEASE KEEP THAT AS YOUR CHANNEL TURNS INTO AN EMPIRE! A lot of people don't know that that's what they like about you. Keep being YOU!
I miss those days. Id rather have it like the old days. Life goes by a lot slower that way, and ANTICIPATION is something modern audiences should have.
Working HR for the empire must have been absolutely bonkers. "Sooo... there was a new round of officer promotions on Saturday, and we need to recruit for the junior positions that just opened up" "AGAIN? That's the third time this month! Don't tell me, Vader had another hissy fit?" "Ahem... LORD Vader WAS displeased with the actions of Admiral -" "- Of course he was. It's getting harder, you know. People don't want to work in a job where the boss randomly chokes you to death for screwing up. Other places have probation, support services, mediation... we have a CEO who murders people at the office Christmas party because they served him the wrong punch. His temper is a bigger cause of staff turnover than the rebellion! We've got positions we can't fill, a workforce on the brink of a collective mental health crisis, and when we asked the emperor for more resources, he just bought a load of motivational cat posters!" "Oooh, those sound cute!" "One of them is a kitten dressed as Vader." "...I can see why that would be a problem. It sounds absolutely adorable though" "Oh, it is, but the cuteness is sort of lost in the reminder that your manager might strangle you with magic". "Yeah... yeah I see that." "We could probably fix all of this if we just sent Vader to anger management training" "Do YOU want to suggest that to him?" "... I'll give one of the cat posters" "Oooh, Ooh, you should-" "Yes, I'll give him the one with the Café kitten on it!"
I know lol who would sign up to be a soldier. They arent clones i assume. The generals & regular staff are people. They all busted loose when the emperor & vader was dying. Luke was dragging his large body while every officer & trooper was booking it off the death star. Luke was the man. He was really showed vader id rather in that moment die than take ur hand. Luke literally chose death. Same in rotj he again flung his saber at the emperor saying id rather not. Lol. The e😂mperorors promise of power was " no thanks" of course when vader got up luke begged for help b/c he was being electrocuted over & over. Luke so much stronger than anakin ever was. I know he lost his mom not like luke had parents. His uncle worked his butt on a sand planet & refused to let him leave their farm ever ! If anything leaving may have avoided the eventual run in w/ obi wan who was waiting for luke thus him living there watching him. Luke way got the short end. Leia was raised as a princess power money pampered while luke lived where his crazy father hated. Worked in a boting desert while ben & yoda watched him & waited for this farm boy to save the planet!!! Also lying to him every step of the way.
Tyrannosaurus Goat is my new favorite way to describe Tauntauns! I'd love to sit and watch movies with these two! This is my favorite movie and Asia and BJ reacting to it was great!
"That boy is our last hope." "No. There is another." (Later at Cloud City, slow push in on Leia's face as Luke calls to her through the Force) Fantastic ❤
One of the most unique sequels for it's time, as Mark Hamil put it "it showed our heroes defeated". So many Hollywood sequels at the time were just the first movie repeated, I love Empire Strikes Back for that.
The reason you didn’t recognize Luke at the beginning was because between Episode IV (Star Wars) and Episode V (Empire Strikes Back), the actor that plays Luke was in an accident that disfigured his face somewhat. It changed his appearance and made him look quite different. He looks older and somewhat less boyish. There are some scars on his face that they tried to cover up with makeup, too.
Easily IMO the best SW movie of the entire franchise. I'm 54 and saw this in theaters on release. Such great memories being transfixed from start to end. The stop-motion, models and overall special effects were state of the art for its time, today a lost art due to CGI. Glad you guys enjoyed it.
Getting promoted to a high position in your normal career is like a dream come true Getting promoted to a high position in the Empire is an absolute nightmare knowing you’re next on Vader’s chopping block
The Yoda reveal is so great, and maybe it can give you an understanding to what Jedi should be. Merely testing his patience, willingness to listen to all forms of life, and life in the moment are some traits a Jedi is meant to have. Edit: I noticed with you discussion a bit earlier in the reactions but I’m proud of you both for being completely unaware of the ONE spoiler about Star Wars that nobody who’s watched them knows, and it’s the Vader thing
The scene where Vader told Luke he was his father was a closely guarded secret, only a few people knew about it before it was filmed and was a huge bombshell! Just one of the cool moments in the Star Wars series which made it so awesome. Keep watching!
The novelization of Empire Strikes Back was released before the film premiered, so some fans who bothered to read it did learn the secret early, but since there was no social media back then, the secret could spread only by word of mouth among friends and family.
When they filmed the scene, the actor playing Darth Vader said "Obi-wan Killed your father" instead, so noone filming the scene knew the real secret. Right before the scene was shot Lucas pulled Mark Hamill (Luke) aside and told him the real line and to react to to that line not what the actor playing Darth Vader said.
My favorite entry in the series, easily. Love the movies as an entire entity, but this one is where you truly begin to care for the heroes and their allies as they get through to the ending. Truly an experience. Even if you’re just seeing it the first time.
I was 6 years old in 1980 when this released in the theaters. I went with my mom, and stepfather. There were people sitting on the floor, and on the aisles Indian style. My six year old mind couldn’t fathom all the greatness of this movie. At age 48 this is still amazing , and your reaction was perfect 👍
Love your reaction! As others have said as well, to see someone truly surprised by Darth Vader's reveal is a real treat. In the fight between Vader and Luke, you'll notice that Luke is using his light saber two-handed, and really giving it his all, and Vader is using his with just one hand and barely even trying, this is a nod to just how much more powerful Vader was. The whole character of Yoda is fascinating. When you think of "the master teacher of all the Jedi" you assume it'd be some big strong buff athletic person, but then here's this tiny frail old creature, which really drives the point home that what makes you powerful is what's on the inside. The scene in the cave where Luke fights a fake Vader and cuts off his head to see his own face is highly symbolic, it's a bit of a foreshadowing that Luke is Vader's son, but also there is the idea presented that "you first have to conquer the evil within yourself before you can confront evil in the world". And Vader definitely goes through admirals like there's no tomorrow, their human resources department is severely lacking, lol. Don't worry about your questions, most of them will be answered in the next one! Cheers
My favorite Star Wars film of all-time! Saw this w/my uncle in 1980 when I was 6 yrs old. Stood in line wrapped around the theater for nearly 3 hrs just to get tickets. Great reaction as always guys! Thanks for sharing!💯
similar experience for me, although i already was a bit older when i stood in line for 3 hours to buy pre-sale tickets a few days in advance after part IV (at that time still without being numbered) already was released 3 weeks prior.
Now imagine having seen these real time in the theater back when they first came out, and knowing you’d have to wait three years until the next one came out! Great reaction, and it’s a blast to watch people seeing these literally for the first time all these years later.
I'm really looking forward to this. I keep seeing it in my subscriptions list and then being like "D'oh! It's not 8 o'clock yet" 😂 The suspense is killing me.
The creature that Luke was riding in the beginning was called the taun-taun. The creature that struck Luke was called the Wampa. At the end, Chewy & Lando went to Luke’s home planet to find Han. Episode 6 puts everything together. Looking forward to your reaction.
This thing hit like a meteor when it first dropped -- the first movie was simplistic fun, but when this thing opened and was so dark and complex, everyone just sat in the theater like, "WTF did we just see?!" My brother saw it first in the family and when he came back from the theater, he said, "It should have been called The Empire Kicks Ass." And you reacted to absolutely everything just like we all did in 1980. And don't forget that this involved no CGI -- all model-work, matte paintings, and physical film masks. It's so fun to see people today going into it blind!!
It's suspenseful in every turn. A classic movie like this in unmatched to any series in the Star Wars Anthology. No nudity or foul language was ever required. That's why it was a tribute to Star Wars fans far & wide for many years.
I love that there are still innocent souls out there who aren't aware of such famous movie-lore! It's precious! Really enjoyed this. Love watching you guys! You got thousands of smiling people sitting with you on that sofa!
The impact these movies had on my life! And this one is the best one. Must have seen it 100+ times and it will never get boring. It's the perfect movie to me.
I remember waiting in a very long line for this when it first came out in the theaters. Everyone in the theater all said "no way!!!" at the "I am your father" scene. One of the greatest plot twists/reveals in history
It's not everyday you get to experience the "I am your father" scene completely unaware as fully grown adults in this age of internet and Star Wars being so ubiquitous in modern pop culture. Also not being exposed to the fact that the little green puppet was Yoda. So happy you guys got to experience things so fresh.
The movie came to my country in 1982 - there were no movie trailers and spoilers at that time, and I remember the whole fully packed cinema gasping at "No. I am your father"
I remember seeing this film on opening day; May 21st 1980. So many great moments, funny moments, shocking moments, but still it is the best of the original Star Wars Trilogy. Glad you guys liked it, and I hope you’ll conclude the trilogy with Return of the Jedi.
Best thing about watching someone who's never seen it before is watching their reaction reminds me of how it felt the first time I saw it. Thank you for bringing me back to the wonder and surprise I felt when I first saw this movie.
Exactly, it's a little mind-blowing watching someone that truly didn't know some...twists on this movie. Almost cliche at this point. I knew stuff like that, game over man, anybody want a peanut, before I ever saw those movies.
In the ride home with my dad as a kid I was like them, Darth Vader has to be lying!!! Had to wait 4 years later. These kids are so lucky now a days. Also who shot JR On Dallas?? Had to wait.
Opening day and we were going to catch the 9 pm showing. Our neighbors bought our tickets when they went to the matinee. Their 8-year-old son ran in to our house while we were eating dinner with our tickets. He handed them to my mom and said Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's dad. Then he ran back out without even closing the door yelling "I told them I told them! I told them!" I could hear his dad said, "you did what?" and started laughing.
Yes...but it also cracks me up watching them try to figure things out....and making assumptions, haha....when I'm sitting here, having seen these films countless times, knowing exactly what's happening and what's GOING to happen........I have to remember to bite my tongue so I don't spoil it for them!
Exactly that bud, you can never experience a first time again so I find it really enjoyable being able to live through it again through someone else's eyes and see if it had the same effect on them.
What makes this movie probably the best of the trilogy is that all the traits that helped Luke in the first movie backfired on him hard in the second. Creating a more complex character arc than just "Guy is good and courageous and saves the day".
It's like 99.9 % of people have heard the line about Vader being Luke's father even if they know nothing else about Star Wars, so it's a real treat for all of us to see someone who doesn't know that going into the movie.
Asia and BJ, this is a great movie, and you'll be introduced to a very cool and important character! Also, there is a huge reveal, but you probably won't understand it until you watch A Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith! However, after you watch Empire Strikes Back, don't wait to watch Return of the Jedi! I'm really looking forward to your reaction to Empire Strikes Back! Have fun and ask a ton of questions! Thank you!
Ya we had to wait for three years to find out if Darth Vader was lying or not. It's so cool to see people who know nothing about Star Wars or any of the twists watch the OT.
This is my favorite SW movie by a mile. "A New Hope" is why everyone knows about Star Wars but "Empire" is why everyone still cares about Star Wars! Watching your reaction was a real treat! Great stuff!
You're doing great guys, it's a lot of information to take on in a short time. We had years to wait in between the film and A LOT of toys and comics to teach us the story and names. Much love from Scotland 💙
It's so cool watching both of you watching these films for the first time. They imprinted my entire childhood, totally collecting the toys, books, sticker albums. I'm kind of glad we only had a fraction of the merchandise stuff in this country. But I spent all of my allowance. Big love for this franchise, especially the IV-VI trilogy of my childhood.
I had to live through the pain! I was 2 years old when I saw Star Wars: A New Hope in the theater for the first of many times and became as addicted as my dad. So I was 5 when I saw Empire in the theater...and then 8 when I saw Return of the Jedi. I loved every bit of those movies, toys, video games, roleplaying games, miniature games, etc., etc., etc. Original Trilogy + Rogue One + Rebels (all four seasons) is where my Star Wars lives. I can enjoy bits of the others for what they offer (John Williams' scores in the Prequal Trilogy and lightsaber battles, for starters), but I can live without everything else if need be.
@@daz_n Very true...mostly. I remember just before we were going to the theater to see Return of the Jedi, my dad told me he had a present for me but wouldn't tell me what it was until we got back. I was 8 years old and this drove me nuts...why couldn't he have waited until we got home to even mention it??? But once I was in the theater, nothing mattered except the movie. When I got home, he gave me the present, the Return of the Jedi graphic novel. So IF he'd given it to me early, I would have indeed been spoiled. Glad he didn't.
When we saw it in the theater, in 1980, there was no internet or social media. The ushers in the theater (yes, we had them) told us not to discuss the movie,in any way, to the people that had not seen it, yet. When Vader told Luke he was his father, the audience went nuts. It still is, in my opinion, the biggest plot twist, ever. None of us saw it coming.
9:17 LOL! 😄 Don't feel bad. *_Every_* reactor seems to miss the last part of *Han's* line, *"This may smell bad kid, but it'll keep you warm, **_until I get the shelter built."_* If I were to guess, I'd say it is because virtually everyone reacting is making a noise or comment once they see the inside of the taun-taun. . .or what you called a _"tyrannosaurus goat"_ 🤣 Perfect name, btw! 10:46 When *Luke* saw the probe land on Hoth, *_he thought it was a meteorite,_* because that's what it *_looked_* like when it hit the ground. _"How did the probe know they were there?"_ It didn't. . .technically. It just sent back images to the fleet. Then someone has to decide if what they see is a hidden rebel base. But in this instance, I think *Vader* got a little help from _the Force._ 🤫 Wonderful reactions! Sorry I came across them a bit late. 😏
26 minutes in BJ gets it! 39:25 Gold! What a payoff reaction!!! Awesome reaction from both of you! You have taken us all back to that moment of Damn, now it's gettin' GOOD!!!
It was great seeing your reaction to the movie. Empire was the first movie my parents took me to when I was really young. As far as what Lando was, he ran a small gas mining company that managed to be not noticed by the Empire until now. Before then, he was basically a pirate like Han until he settled down and became “legit”.
Asia hit on something I've only noticed in recent years. When Leia plants one on Luke Threepio is walking up and looking at Han as if to say "You cool with this?"
I'm giving you a thumbs up just for the Grandpa Gremlin, roflmao! Truly, I love your reactions. It's fun to watch you guys have fun with this trilogy. ♥♥♥
As an avid Star Wars fan and a fan of yours, it’s so interesting to see you starting to love the series. Wait til “ Return of the Jedi”. God bless you and thank you for the entertainment. 😊❤️
Getting so much life from watching y’all react to the original Star Wars trilogy. I grew up with my cousins (mostly boys), so I had little choice but to watch these movies on repeat on VHS/DVD and it was so annoying at the time…but you know what..I LOVE them now and a massive Star Wars fan. Also making sure my kids are fans too now 🤣 They are truly nostalgic films for me for so many reasons. Wait until Jedi! You’ll love it!
Fun facts: Chewie actually had lines. The actor in the suit had whole conversations with Han, but Lucas later decided to give Chewie a kind of animal howl instead of an articulating voice. But if you look for behind-the-scenes footage, you'll find some pre-ADR stuff featuring Chewie where you can hear what he's saying. It's quite funny; turns out Chewie is a pretty sarcastic guy. Yoda's face is based on Albert Einstein. That's why he has those wisps of fluffy white hair and mustache. When Leia tells Han, "I love you," the script had him replying "I love you, too." Harrison Ford refused to say that because _Han_ would never say it. He came up with a more Han reply, and it was obviously the right one.
Lando was the administrator of a mining colony. They mined something called Tibana gas. If you watch this again, you can actually see a gas platform off in the distance. Luke's crew is the Rebellion of course and Vader is second in command of the Empire. You'll just have to keep watching to see how this all unfolded in Episodes 1 through 3 and then the continuing Skywalker saga with Episodes 7 through 9. Also, you have to watch Rogue One and Solo, which are two stand-alone movies and The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan which are two live-action television shows on Disney Plus. Love your reactions and I'll continue to watch. May the Force be with you!!!
Great reaction you two. How could neither of you not know about Vadar being Luke's father? Out of all the reaction channels I have watched reacting to Star Wars, and there has been dozens and dozens of them, only two didn't know about that. The rest, even though they haven't seen the movies before, still knew because it is all over the place. It is sooooo special to see thoughs who had no idea that was coming. You two didn't disappoint. Let me tell you about my "I am your father," story. This was one of the best kept secrets in movie history. James Earl Jones, Vadar's voice, didn't even know about it until he read it while they were recording for the movie. He was so surprised, that right after he read that line, he said the same exact thing everybody on the planet said when they found out, "WHATTTT?" Then he said, "is this true?" Of course they had to rerecord it. Even Mark Hamil, Luke, while filming the scene was so surprised said the same thing. They had to reshoot it. Ok my story. I was at the second showing on the first day. Nobody had any idea what was going to happen. There are about 300 - 350 crammed in this theater. We all waited 3 long years for this and the excitement level in the theater was sky high. Like you guys were, still shocked at Vadar cutting Luke's hand off, when it hit. When Vadar said one of the most famous lines in movie history, the whole 300 - 350 people in the theater, had the same reaction at the same split second and like one big voice, everybody yelled, "WHATTT?" It was very clear. We were all looking at each other with our mouths wide open, our eyes as big as oranges in complete shock. Then it happened again. Just as Luke yells, "Nooooo," so did everyone in the theater, again as if one big voice. Clear as a bell, "NOOOOOOO," It was an amazing experience. Nothing like that has every happened since. 300 - 350 different people all having the same reaction at the same second and saying the exact same thing at the same time. Usually when a crowd yells the same thing, it's not really that clear. But both times, "What" and "Nooooo" were as clear as if just one big voice yelled it. I felted I was very lucky to be some of the few who got to experience that while it happened. The news got out very quickly after that. While walking out the theater and by the people standing in line for the next showing, This idiot walking behind us said to who ever he was with, "I can't believe that Vadar is Luke's father." Some of the people standing in line heard what he said and were all like, "What did he say? Vadar is Luke's father." Then others inline hearing that all started saying it and that is how fast the secret was out of the bag. I turned and looked at the guy who didn't realize what he did. What a moron he was. Anyway it was all over the news that night so it didn't matter. Most people knew about that before they even seen the movie. That is why I feel so lucky. Considering the number of people who have seen Episode IV, probably hundreds of millions, there were probably only about 1/2 million or so who had no idea it was coming. Appears you two are a part of that exclusive club now which is even more incredible considering pretty much everybody who has seen it or not seen it knew about it. It was a lot of fun seeing both of you, eyes all big, mouths open and such disbelieve on your faces. That scene is soooo much fun to watch when seeing someone who has no idea it's coming. Also seeing you two after it was over doing what we all did. Start asking questions, coming up with theories, love it. Now think about how you were feeling and all those questions. Now you two can get answers and find out if your theories are correct right now. Back then, we all had to wait a n o t h e r 3 v e r y l o n g y e a r s to get answers and see if our theories were correct. Oh not all people or beings in this galaxy are force sensitive. The majority are not. Only a few are born force sensitive. Some are more than others. Obviously Vadar is, the emperor and Luke. Luke just doesn't know how to use it yet. The emperor can see how power Luke can become. Like himself and Yoda. He just has to learn how to use it. Your questions about who the emperor is and how did Vadar go over to the dark side will all be answered in the prequel trilogies, episodes I, II and III. There are many that feel this one, Episode V, was the best of all of them. For me, I love VI, your next one, the best. It is just perfect, you will see. Well my apologies for my little book here. I hope you will find it interesting enough to make it all the way through. Thanks for letting the rest of us be a part of your amazing journey. Remember it has just begun. Don't forget if you have any questions about any of this, please ask me and I will do my best to answer them without ruining anything you haven't seen yet. Things you have already seen, I can give you as much as I know about things. Not as much as some but enough to most likely answer your questions. Take care you two and stay safe.
Not sure how this comment doesn't have more likes. It's a lot to read but it had me on the edge of my seat with the Theater eruption scenario. I am old enough to of seen the OG trilogy in the theaters at a very young age but like BJ and Asia I wasn't really into the "Space" thing back then. Understanding this trilogy later made me realize how compelling it truly was and it just made me want to watch more. The only comparison I can think of in my life time that had a similar reaction, yet not on the scale of over 300 coming from one theater, would have to be :::::: SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN MARVELS INFINITY WAR ::::: Marvels Infinity War when Thor burst on the scene in Wakanda to take another shot at Thanos. The whole theater erupted in the loudest cheer when things started to turn around. I went on to see the eruptions from all over the world about that scene here on youtube and it had the same reaction everywhere. I can only imagine if we had internet back then what this would of looked like. If they keep up with the franchise I may just have to patreon that ish lol.
@@genghiskhan5685 So cool. Love hearing about similar experiences. Things like that we will remember forever. I watched all the Avenger movies online so I didn't get that in the theaters. I do know what scene your talking about and had the same reaction just had it by myself. So no spoilers I have seen it. Yeah sorry for the book. Happens to me a lot because I can type pretty fast. When I am typing about something I love, I tend to go on and on before I know it, I get what you saw and read. I wasn't a space fan either. In fact, I didn't even want to see the first one. My brother dragged me to the theater saying I will love it. Well he certainly knew me back then. Star Wars has a habit of turning non space people into space people. Seeing Asia's and BJ's reaction to the first two movies has been fun. The fact that they didn't know about "I am your father." thing, was really great. There eyes get so big and wide open. Just like my did back in the day seeing these movies for the first time. Anyway it is fun to hear from another about their theater experiences.
@@robmaeder330 Heyyy good to meet another very lucky person. There isn't many of us who can say that. I haven't talked to one like us in about 20 years. I feel even more lucky because those who I have talked to said people in the theater pretty much reacted in a similar way, it wasn't at the exact same second. It was so amazing cause the 300+ people said "What" at the same exact second. It was so clear. Then like I said, it happened again with, "noooooo." It didn't sound like a bunch of voices but one very big one. Always love hearing from other Star Wars fans, especially the ones like yourself who got to experience that in the theater.
The novelization of Episode V came out weeks before the film premiered in 1980, so some of us who couldn't wait went into the movie screening already knowing the secret.
I'm a STAR WARS fan since 1977 and all 9 episodes came out in important moments of My life, Star Wars is part of My life,i loved and enjoyed your great reactions i hope You'll react to de rest of The saga.....blessings!!!!👍❣️🍷👽🕺
The creature holding Luke captive is a Wampa. The animal used by Luke and Han on Hoth for transportation is a TaunTaun. The tall armored vehicles operated by Imperial pilots on Hoth are All Terrain Armored Transport, or AT-AT walkers.
I mean that may be true, but I think I like Tyrannosaurus Goat and Ninja Elephant Turtles better now that they've incepted those crazy names into my head 😅🦖🐐🐘🐢
You need to understand how popular these movies were. People stood in line for hours waiting to see them. So, when Darth Vader says he's Luke's father it was a bombshell. Watching these in the theater was also the best way to watch them. It also sucked we had to wait for the new one to come out. Great reaction.
SOOO much fun to see people that are totally unspoiled of the "twist" watch for the first time! Glad you guys are loving it, just like did when I was 8 years old :)
Just remember the year this came out. There had never been anything like this before. The special affects, crazy great for that time. The characters and creatures. Everyone want crazy over the bar scene. A Fairytale in space. Vintage action figures from this movie are worth mega bucks.
A game changer in special effects in general. There were genius special effects before, but Star Wars changed the entire industry in that regard like none before. And I don't think we will see a change like that again. Sure, special effects will get better, but a game changer like Star Wars? I could be wrong, but I don't think anything like this will come again.
Actually, 2001: A Space Odyssey was first regarding special effects. George Lucas even said that if it were not for 2001, there would have been no Star Wars.
It could almost be said that from the perspective of the Empire, he was their own action hero. So very much in the Star Wars franchise is dependent on a person's point of view.
THEY BLEW PAST THE "I know"! I had the fear that they would. I'm all invested in their reaction since ive watched this movie 100+ times, lol. Omg I hope someone has given them the heads up, it's such an iconic part of the character building.
WOW! That was AWESOME, seeing both your reactions to I AM YOUR FATHER! It took me back to my first time watching. Loved your descriptions of those Imperial Walkers and Gremlin Yoda! 🤣
I've really enjoyed your reactions to both this one and Episode IV. Watching your reactions to these took me back to the wonder and amazement that I, myself, felt when I first watched these films as a kid - believe me, I'm here for it, and I can't wait till you continue the journey with Episode VI!
In 1980 everyone that saw Star Wars: A New Hope and/or The Empire Strikes Back in theaters had to wait 3 years (1983) to find out if Darth Vader was really Luke's Father or not. Thankfully we don't have to wait that long to watch Return Of The Jedi. There was a lot of speculation about that probably more than any other plot point in the franchise up to that point. The question from 1980 to 1983 was IS DARTH VADER REALLY LUKE'S FATHER OR NOT everyone has an opinion about it. Some people believe that Vader really is Luke's Father while others believe he was just trying to deceive Luke to use that to turn Luke to the dark side and basically lie to him about being his father. I'm not going to spoil anything and I haven't either here nor in the chat for the video you will just have to wait until Return Of The Jedi to learn the truth because I'm not telling.
Enjoyed your reaction....fun to watch people seeing the whole story for the first time. 22:58 Looked for a second like Yoda had a Top Gun poster in his house! 😉 26:41 Love how the failing light speed motor sounds like the starter in my old '64 Dodge.
BJ, did you get a lightsaber yet? Got my first one for Christmas in 1977. It was only a flashlight with a sticker to look like buttons and an inflatable yellow tube, but at the time I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Now I have the Master Replicas Obi-Wan saber from Revenge of the Sith. Enjoy the concert tonight.
"That's his laser sword!" Loved it!! Great reaction. You two are like watching my grandparents take in a Sci-Fi movie. I would have to say you did pretty well picking up on a lot of thing many casual watchers miss. So much fun watching a couple get enjoyment out of these movies for the first time (ACTUAL first-timers) and appreciating/following the story like you two did. Looking forward to more.
To see someone actually react to “I am your father” after all this time was priceless! The biggest plot twist in movie history hit you guys in the face! Great reactions! ❤
I think Fight Club and Sixth Sense matches that.
@@Frostrazor i respect that, but in a historical context I don’t agree. But damn good examples by you! 👍🏼
Definitely one of the very biggest plot twists in moviedom if not the biggest one. I agree though that Sixth Sense and Fight Club had huge movie twists.
@@Frostrazor You maniacs! You blew it up...

You both missed the one of the most iconic lines after Leia said “I love you.”
Han: “I know.” 🤣🤣
Exactly. And the comment "Such a cliche", where that was exactly the opposite 😀
Apparently that’s not what was in the script but Harrison Ford thought it fit better with Han’s character.
@@tammyford2357 Oh, that's soo true. Which makes it even funnier, since apparently originally it was a cliche scene, that just became iconic thanks to the incredible actor.
Where did the ladder go?
For real. One of the most iconic lines in cinema history and they talked through it.
The Yoda meeting is a throwback to the "stranger on the road" trope from Samurai films. The master would test the student on the student's journey to meet the master, while the student didn't know his real identity. It was usually some test of character, to see if the student was worthy of the power they would obtain, via knowledge of the sword.
And this was to test Luke’s patience, having him put up with a senile old gremlin thing who liked to eat, the verdict being he lacks patience
The whole movie Lucas has said is based on many ancient tropes. Great movies.

Imagine how we felt having to wait 3 years between movies...🤯
I can remember.
Truth.
I miss those days. Id rather have it like the old days. Life goes by a lot slower that way, and ANTICIPATION is something modern audiences should have.
That gave you time to imagine how it would continue. I liked it.
Same, I grew up with the prequels, and I loved the anticipation with each movie.
The part where vader just walks off after the Falcon gets away is so poetic. He didn't choke anyone, but everyone held their breath in that moment.
Working HR for the empire must have been absolutely bonkers.
"Sooo... there was a new round of officer promotions on Saturday, and we need to recruit for the junior positions that just opened up"
"AGAIN? That's the third time this month! Don't tell me, Vader had another hissy fit?"
"Ahem... LORD Vader WAS displeased with the actions of Admiral -"
"- Of course he was. We've got positions we can't fill, a workforce on the brink of a collective mental health crisis, and when we asked the emperor for more resources, he just bought a load of motivational cat posters!"
"Oooh, those sound cute!"
"One of them is a kitten dressed as Vader."
"...I can see why that would be a problem. It sounds absolutely adorable though"
"Oh, it is, but the cuteness is sort of lost in the reminder that your manager might strangle you with magic".
"Yeah... yeah I see that."
"We could probably fix all of this if we just sent Vader to anger management training"
"Do YOU want to suggest that to him?"
"... I'll give one of the cat posters"
"Oooh, Ooh, you should-"
"Yes, I'll give him the one with the Café kitten on it!"
I was in high school when this came out. It had so many cliffhangers, and we had to wait THREE YEARS for the next movie before we got the answers!

One of the most unique sequels for it's time, as Mark Hamil put it "it showed our heroes defeated". So many Hollywood sequels at the time were just the first movie repeated, I love Empire Strikes Back for that.
Clichés don't get to be clichés unless they work, and thanks to the chemistry between the actors it absolutely *works.* 😭

Thankfully, that change worked extremely well and made him look more battle hardened!
What I heard is that's why they added in the ice monster scene at the beginning for the scar issues to Hamill.
Easily IMO the best SW movie of the entire franchise.
I'm 54 and saw this in theaters on release. Such great memories being transfixed from start to end.
The stop-motion, models and overall special effects were state of the art for its time, today a lost art due to CGI.

Getting promoted to a high position in your normal career is like a dream come true
Getting promoted to a high position in the Empire is an absolute nightmare knowing you’re next on Vader’s chopping block
It is so rare to see someone who doesn't know about famous 'I'm your father' scene.

Asia, calling yoda a “Grandpa gremlin” 😂😂😂😂😂 great video
The scene where Vader told Luke he was his father was a closely guarded secret, only a few people knew about it before it was filmed and was a huge bombshell! Just one of the cool moments in the Star Wars series which made it so awesome. Keep watching!
Only three people knew: George Lucas, James Earl Jones and Mark Hamill
The novelization of Empire Strikes Back was released before the film premiered, so some fans who bothered to read it did learn the secret early, but since there was no social media back then, the secret could spread only by word of mouth among friends and family.
When they filmed the scene, the actor playing Darth Vader said "Obi-wan Killed your father" instead, so noone filming the scene knew the real secret. Right before the scene was shot Lucas pulled Mark Hamill (Luke) aside and told him the real line and to react to to that line not what the actor playing Darth Vader said.
@@OkapiJim The director, Irvin Kershner, also knew
The story goes that, at the premiere, when that scene came up, Harrison Ford leaned over to Mark Hamill and said, "You effing didn't tell me!"
The concentration on Asia’s face during the Hoth fight was REAL
My favorite entry in the series, easily. Love the movies as an entire entity, but this one is where you truly begin to care for the heroes and their allies as they get through to the ending. Truly an experience. Even if you’re just seeing it the first time.
I was 6 years old in 1980 when this released in the theaters. I went with my mom, and stepfather.
There were people sitting on the floor, and on the aisles Indian style.
My six year old mind couldn’t fathom all the greatness of this movie. At age 48 this is still amazing , and your reaction was perfect 👍
I was 7 in 1980 watching this. I watched it back to back.😎👍🏾
This ending had a lot of "Cliff-hangers and questions. Imagine in 1980, having to wait 3 years for the answerers.
Cheers
Great comment Colonel B! Thanks for ALL your love and support! ❤️❤️

That "I am your father" line was HUGE. Then in real life we had to wait years for the follow up.

No spoilers back then either!
@@daz_n Very true...mostly. I remember just before we were going to the theater to see Return of the Jedi, my dad told me he had a present for me but wouldn't tell me what it was until we got back.

Fun facts:
Chewie actually had lines.
“What the?!?!?”
We all know what scene we wanted to see.
Great reaction y’all.
Asia: "If ain't nobody else told you, I love you."
Han Solo: "I know."
I also did not know when I saw it in 1980.
I love how you are so into this! It's like viewing the movies for the first time myself again 🙂
@@catherinelw9365 True, but it wasn't such a game changer.
I absolutely adore your enthusiasm. Saw this film in '82' and it's people like yourselves that make this exciting for me again. Thank you Asia and BJ!
Darth Vader is different from most bad guys, he actually likes to be in the thick of the fight on the front line.
The creature that luke is riding is called a taun taun
I remember having the toy with open stomach pouch, lol
Saw this in the movie theater in 1980. Before the internet, before secrets were revealed. Blew my mind. Still holds up.
♥ I'm here for that one scene we all know so well! Shhhh ... no spoilers! 😊
WOW! That was AWESOME, seeing both your reactions to I AM YOUR FATHER!
It took me back to my first time watching.
Loved your descriptions of those Imperial Walkers and Gremlin Yoda! 🤣
You two are the most wholesome couple reacting and I can't help but smile out from your good vibes.
Thanks so much!!!
