I really like the wood texture you were able to get on the EVA foam. It looks a lot better than the wire brush technique used on insulation foam. Great job!
Awesome stuff. I am making an EVA foam background for my aquarium (external of water, EVA isn't good with fish). This will be a perfect texturing tool for what I'm aiming for! Thanks!
Looks cool. I used this kind of foam for caverns once. Great use of it for building more general tiling. Nice wood texture as well. Keep up the cool vids!
The Chopshop Network if you have a harbor freight, I recommend them being the cheapest. If not you can purchase the mats at Walmart as well. You will be looking for anti-fatigue mats for workshops or yoga.
Hello. First time I see one of your videos and was an instant surprise, I already save this video in my library. I have two questions... Are you still making videos? And can I apply this technique with heat gun with pink foam? Thank you so much for the amazing tiles.
Thank you. Currently, I do not have the time to record and edit which is a majority of the projects timeline. I hope soon enough things will settle enough with work that I may resume. On the pink insulation or XPS type of foam. It can not withstand the extreme heat like EVA and tends to melt. I am far from an expert as I don’t use XPS in any of my crafting.
On the flip side. You could always heat up the available item you are using to apply the texture (provided that can withstand the heat.) and brand your XPS accordingly.
This is the second video that I've watched on your channel. Again, I like your treatment and use of EVA. It seems like a very viable gaming and crafting material. After you paint it, do you do anything to seal it? Like use a mat spray varnish? I'm assuming that EVA does not melt the way XPS does, but I could be wrong. Thanks for sharing. --Bo
While it would leave an impression if it was something like cheesecloth or a potato sack perhaps. I do not know how well the imprint would stay over time being so shallow. Heat can revert the texture back to a smooth surface if enough heat is applied. So keep that in mind but in theory it should work and then you could clear coat to prevent it from losing texture.
@@RollforDamageRFD awesome, thanks for the reply. I am thinking burlap. I would be airbrushing and likely applying mod podge. I think definitely some experiments will be in order. Luckily the foam is pretty cheap!
Vance Chinen one of the best parts about this foam. It doesn’t require primer or a clear coat afterwards. The grey color is the natural color of the foam I used
Hi! I am planning to do some tiles for my games and figured out I would go with EVA and not XPS. Which thickness would you advice me for the EVA? On amazon.fr, there are nice offers for 2mm (0.1") but I worry about it being too thin for texturing. What's the standard thickness you use and love? Thanks
@@CaitofFate it also works for EVA foam unfortunately I can't post pictures in comments, but trust me it works 😁 Atleast on the kinda of eva foam used as workshop flooring and for Larp/cosplay gear
@@RollforDamageRFD i'm starting to build my own set of tiles, i've tried cardboard (didn't like the look of it) and couldn't find XPS foam where i live, so i tried EVA, i'm happy to know they can be textured that way, if i was happy how they turn out, now they will be O.O

I like the use of the heat gun to amp up the textures. Will definitely put this technique in my toolbox for when I start to craft my own terrain!
FlRELAlR thanks so much! It’s a very easy step with a fantastic and unique outcome!
A combination of simplicity and beauty. Very nice.
Thank you kindly, good Sir!
No sir, thank you! Glad I found our channel.
This may have just saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you!
Oh jeez. Glad to help man. What were you about to buy?
Awesome stuff. I am making an EVA foam background for my aquarium (external of water, EVA isn't good with fish). This will be a perfect texturing tool for what I'm aiming for! Thanks!
Eva foam makes so much sense, nice and light and easy to store
Mind Milk D20 thanks man! You can get a set of mats cheap from harbor freight.
Roll for Damage I'll have to try it one day. We don't have harbor freight here but there are places that carry it. Hardware stores and craft shops.
Oh, and congrats on getting that craft it forward box thing!
Great! Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Your channel is doing very well man. Glad to see your videos.
I really excited to receive it next!
Awesome!! So easy to understand and results were excellent!
Glad to help!

Thanks brother!
Don't be a tile snob! Those look great, and I would use them all day long on my table!
Good stuff. :)
Lol thanks man but some of those cuts would bother me.
That wood look turned out real nice. Well done. Make sure you unplug that iron.....
Thanks man! Yeah I have two little ones I can’t walk away without pulling the iron out and putting it up high to cool off.
Holy crap dude, those wooden textured tiles are so good!
Glad you liked it. They’re very easy to make. Thanks for all the kind words!
Just thinking you could make walls the same way too, just need to find something suitable to use as a stone wall template!
I have walls coming soon. Been under the weather and recording has suffered because of it.
All in good time, ill look out for it when its up
I will definitely have to try this! Ive been trying to think of a way to texture.
Glad to help bro. You’ve been killing it with your terrain.
You did a really good job on this 🖒
Thanks!
Very useful. Thanks
Awesome, thank you
Glad to help!
Great video! Where is the best place to purchase EVA foam?

amazing and so useful!!!
Thanks and glad it helps!
Roll for Damage sure! it helped me so much! I'm preparing some miniature sets for stop motion animation 😉 thanks a lot, man, you're so talented
That’s really cool! Thanks again.

Do these flex a lot? Or can you use like Mod Podge or some such to make em stiffer?

No I don’t seal it with anything. The paint absorbs several layers by the EVA and I havnt found it to scratch. Thanks for checking of the vids! 😄
Very cool video.
This tiles are perfect for the player characters in my campaign to bleed out on!!!
Nice!
I want to make up sails from foam and wonder if I took a nicely textured fabric and ironed over the foam would it leave an impression of the fabric?
While it would leave an impression if it was something like cheesecloth or a potato sack perhaps. I do not know how well the imprint would stay over time being so shallow. Loving this alternate way of making dungeon tiles! Out of curiosity, what kind of primer are you using for the foam?
Vance Chinen one of the best parts about this foam. It doesn’t require primer or a clear coat afterwards. The grey color is the natural color of the foam I used

Wire brush! Use a fine wire brush for the wooden texture!
For wood texture a wire brush makes it quite fast
That only works on XPS foam. The fun being worked on in this video is EVA foam.
@@CaitofFate it also works for EVA foam unfortunately I can't post pictures in comments, but trust me it works 😁

Why do people use EVA instead of XPS? Is it more durable?
Yes!!! The durability between the two are incomparable. However on the flip side EVA is a bit harder to work with.
