@scotty kilmer Please, when you have time admin the list you have of the parts and stuff that you use, I want to get a set of LED lights like you have on your matrix. Thank You.
I learned to drive with my grandfather on a Chevrolet C10 1970 that had the standard transmission and it was with the driving wheel and I was 12.when he taught me. One of my cousins still has it and drives but being in Puerto Rico it has lots of rust since was kept outside for the last 10 years. My grandfather died 2 years ago and he had 98 with great and healthy memory but his lungs were not oxygenating enough at that age and he was still walking around to church since he was a deacon. He died after he went to the bathroom and came back to take a nap after a nurse checked him out. He didn't want to use a wheelchair because he always said that he was able to walk and that it was better for someone else who couldn't.😉😂
For all those driving enthusiasts who like to actually drive their vehicles, let the car manufacturers know...we are still out there. SAVE THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION!
I can relate. 2015 Honda Civic 1.8 6 speed manual hatch (Gen 9). In my country, Honda does not offer any manual civic models anymore. When I asked them why, they said “no demand”. So this is my last Honda, which I’m going to drive until Mother Earth reclaims the metal.
my mother taught me to drive a stick at age 15. i didn't drive an automatic until later. all of my cars are standards! much much much more fun to drive!
Mine taught me at 11. With a very bad 80s mustang... clutch had about 1 inch of engagement so no room for mistakes.... took me about a month to get outta neutral lmao.
Especially now that the Focus and Fiesta are gone from the North American market. Those cars were very popular and available in manual. It's sad to see them go. Americans as a whole are trending away from coupes and sedans and favoring crossovers, SUVs and trucks instead, hardly any of which are offered in manual.
I learned how to drive a stick shift by buying a new 1984 Toyota Corolla Sr 5. I made it out of the dealership but I got to the light I stalled it all the way home! My brother told me remember the car shifting sounds we made as kid's you know vroom vroom in all 4 gears help alot 😆
I learned to drive with a 5 speed. Manual transmissions are becoming rare these days, and if you buy a new vehicle with one, it doesn't come with any of the other options you may want. Just because it has a manual transmission doesn't mean the rest of the vehicle has to be stripped-down as well. The auto makers have once again decided for us what would be best for consumers.
I bought a 1996 Impala SS new with the 5.7 V8. EPA rated it at 17/25 MPG. Drove it like a nun 95% of the time. One evening with about 35K on it drove from Charlotte to Raleigh using cruise control at 60 MPH. Filled the car up when I got to Raleigh and my MPG for the trip was 28.4 MPG. Just goes to show when driven conservatively these 25 plus year old Chevys can get better than expected mileage.
Watching you forever dude! You are awesome! I am a mechanic myself...specializing in transmissions.. moved on since then, but I will keep watching your awesome content! Cheers from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
LOVE my 91 Dodge Stealth R/T TT 5-Speed manual!!!! Got it with 69,000 original miles!!!! An older rich guy from New York that has several other cars, never drove it!!!! Had it shipped here to Las Vegas!!!!
It honestly felt like I was driving for the first time all over again when I was first learning how to drive a manual. After a week you'll lock down the basics, and after a month you'll gain some finesse and shift much faster and smoother. You honestly can't go back to driving an automatic once you've mastered it. It's a real shame that manuals are slowly becoming extinct. Yes you can argue that modern automatic transmissions have surpassed manuals in fuel economy, but manuals are much more reliable, and in the rare occasion that a manual transmission does breakdown, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to repair than an auto that broke down.
I got the basics down in 1 day of driving, and got smooth and fast with 1 to 2 weeks (i love driving tho, that's why), I've even learnt how to manage it in the worst traffic on the planet (lagos), i don't think I'm ever going back to autos.
I remember when I first joined the Marine corps fresh out of high school and you couldn't tell me nothing. I had to have the fastest cars I could afford. Then I realized, no matter how fast my car was I could only drive as fast as everyone else is. Especially after I was stationed in Germany and drove on the autobahn as fast as my car could go, help me realized in the states it was pointless if I wasn't going to the track.
Another +1 for a MT is ability to push start the car. I've been bailed out numerous times when the battery charge was too low to fully engage the starter. I will drive MTs forever and it's sad how many new 'sports' cars only come in AT.
Learned on a 46’ Ford sedan age 8. Dad got a 39’ Ford 1/2 ton truck highly modded engine with Lincoln Zephyr transmission ( four on the floor) with Columbia two speed rear end when I was nine. Back when the starter was on the floor. He kept breaking the rear end axle key and sold it and bought a new Datsun pickup first year of import 59’. I was 10 when he got that. Four on the tree. My last stick was an 83’ Tercel wagon five speed. Hated it in Bay Area traffic but out in the country where I live not so bad. Someday I’ll get a C5 or C6 if the world doesn’t end first.
If you're learning, surely it's best to begin with standard/manual transmission. If you start out with one, it quickly becomes second nature, even if it is a little more to learn at first. I do like those Corvettes with the (relatively) smaller engine. 25 mpg on the highway is a practical proposition for those of us in the UK (where gas is almost $7 a gallon) who like American sports cars.
Just a couple years ago I picked up a 2001 Corvette very similar to this one, its pewter, has the 6 speed, lots of options. It only ran me $14,900, with 66,000 miles! Plus, I'm only the 3rd owner and it has a full service history too! Fantastic cars to drive, good on gas considering the size of the engine, and reliable as can be!
Yeah same, I drove a 95 250 for my first truck w a 7.3 Powerstroke. Threw a straight pipe on it some oil in the fuel & she would blow smoke like you wouldn’t believe & had so much fun with it, but if I had the money to put into it for 3-400hp rebuilt the transmission & make all sorts of power with it would be fun. The truck had the E4OD in it, it was fun for rolling coal especially when you had a bad injector blowing fuel & black smoke everywhere was an absolute blast. Later was having issues w it sold it & got a 93 7.3 idi with a 5spd stick. I drove tractors around our property for years & it took me a few minutes to learn how to shift it having a diesel helps w the low end torque & pealing out is pretty fun. My 93 idi is now my daily & would love to find a 95 7.3 in the future & would love to find my old truck in the future, cuz of the body & engine it’ll most likely be still on the road working hard.
Teaching mom how to drive like literally mom is about 50yrs young and has never driven in her life. I'm teaching her in my manual transmission Chevy aveo 5 speed I know not a performance car at all. It it's so basic it's so perfect for a beginner. She got the basics down of a manual transmission and drove for the first time in her life this past Sunday. I was so joyful seeing her whip that little aveo around i forgot I still had to keep an eye on her movements with the gears and on the road. I own 2 manual transmission vehicles.
I learned to drive on a 1979 VW Rabbit. 4 speed manual. It took me two tries to feel comfortable starting from a stop. Shifting once moving seem second nature. Driving a manual is far less difficult then learning how to be a good defensive driver.
I learned to shift on my little Honda S-90. My boys learned on a Ford Aspire with a 5-speed. They wanted a car to drive to school and were highly pissed that I bought the tiny 60 hp Ford. But they learned quick. And the little hatchback was surprisingly good in the winter.
Hi Scotty!!! I just bought a beautiful black Honda 2021 Civic sport hatchback manual yesterday. It drives amazing, and I'm so happy with my purchase. Save the manuals! ❤️
Was watching one Scotty Kilmer video, and then left it on in the background. A series of other Kilmer teaching videos followed, including this gem. Found myself relaxed, smiling, even cheerful. So there ya have it, listen to Kilmer, and no need to call the doctor in the morning. (and ya thought he was just good for your cars)
I'd say learning how to drive stick is easier when you're learning how to drive because you don't know anything. I taught my girlfriend how to drive on my 2021 WRX which I wouldn't recommend learning how to drive a manual on a WRX, but she did great.
I've preferred manual transmissions ever since I drove a tricycle. I can recall not being able to shift, so I took one of my mother's knitting needles and bent it into a lever shape and stuck it in the handlebar grip hole. MUCH more fun, especially mimicking the gear clash into second such as my aunt's '54 Chevy did.
Scotty, I thought you might do a tour of the Corvette museum in Bowling Green, Ky., maybe less than 100 miles ? I've known three different middle aged guy's that bought used, low milage, Corvettes. They very seldom drove them, and kept them in a garage. It's one of the easiest used car's to find in excellent shape.
Scotty, I put together a real nice '65 Chevy, in the year 1971. I put a new clutch pressure plate $12, disc $7 and throw-out bearing $5.......and that was OEM from the local dealer, with the mechanics discount....!!!!! I put in rhe 10" corvette 3 finger clutch for the fuel injected model of 1963. It too, was like a clutch for a Mack truck. I hated it....
@@ayebee1207 I wanted a nice quiet cruiser . My friend's brother had the 65 body. I got it for $160 . It was really clean great mint green factory paint no rust or anything.. I redid brakes, balljoints, all new shocks, and a 350 engine with 9500 miles on it. Put a muncie in too......Should never have sold that car...
I had a 99 C5 for 9 1/2yrs I bought from a 65yr old man. Loved it! Only reason I sold it was to buy a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport. The LS engines r bulletproof & will run forever......
I had a 95 Altima with a 5 speed manual but that was years back. It was a good no nonsense car. Cloth seats & AC with electric windows. That was it for modern conveniences. V6 engine too if I remember right. Bought it after the previous driver lease was up. Decent car.
Bought a 09 one owner sothern California C6 with G51 Ls3. What a great car! 436hp . Great power and handling 30mpg with the cruise set at 80mph. Fairly simply to work on when you compare it to the Porsches I've owned. Great car!
I loved driving manual transmission vehicles, but after years of doing so, developed arthritis due to repetetive strain injury in my left ankle. Will be sticking to automatics the rest of my driving days.
Love manual gearbox cars. I just found a cool 2013 Subaru Outback with a stickshift and even though it's a little underpowered, it's still more fun than a tornado in a trailer park!
My first car was a '58 Chevy Brookwood station wagon 283 with an automatic transmission. It was a tank. My second car was a '63 Chevy wagon with a three on the column manual transmission and a 283. I found it was easy to learn to shift. After that it was manual transmissions for me.
I own a 1999 C5 Corvette in Artic White with a two-tone black and camel interior and a six speed manual transmission. I have both top for mine. I installed a Corsa Pace Car exhaust system along with a Corsa cross-over pipe and shorty headers. The engine is heavily modified along with the brakes. My C5 is in mint condition. The next upgrade will be a Magnuson supercharger with a carbon fiber high rise hood.
Bought one (manual) 3 years ago for 1100 still going strong Did replace the clutch master down by pedal. PIA but did it myself. First manual car was first car , a 1961 VW Bug.
I don't know what Scotty was talking about regarding the clutch pedals on Corvette Sting Rays (C2) being hard to release. Maybe the one that he drove had an aftermarket clutch. My 1964 Sting Ray is all stock, including its clutch, and I have no problem with its clutch pedal. It doesn't require any more force to release than the pedal in my 2014 WRX STi or my old long-gone 1984 Nissan 720 2WD truck. Thanks for the video Scotty. It's so nice to see that there are still people out there like me that prefer manual transmissions!
I'm sure nobody has denied scotty from driving there car! Sure its either because of insurance or scotty asked them to drive so he can film! No mechanics gonna work on your car if he can't road test it!
The Kentucky Litmus test - Blue Corvette = Kentucky fan Red Corvette = Louisville fan I like manual transmissions to automatics any day. There's a 2008 Toyota Matrix listed for sale at a dealership close by with a manual but they are asking too much for it. If I can talk them down it might become mine.
@jared day In areas they sell the 4Runner they don't sell the Hilux. And the areas they sell the Hilux they don't sell the 4Runner. Not now anymore. They used to sell it(or something very similar) under the name of Hilux Surf. Then they stopped maybe a decade or so back. Now there's a Toyota Fortuner which is based on the cabin of the Hilux.
Love my 6 speed C5. Nothing like rowing through the gears yourself. My daily driver is in automatic with paddle shifters, there OK, more of a gimmick to give it a "sporty feel", but to be honest I usually forget my car has them.
@@Snarky_Queen I used to live in FL, in brooksville, for a few yrs And I've mostly lived in the city...yes I shift a lot...so what...it's still better...and lasts longer than an automatic..and less maintenance, in an automatic u gotta change the fluid and filter more
@@richsweeney1115 I think I'm good lol. Waste of time. You're only proving a point to yourself when you have to shift 200 times to get through traffic. Nobody really cares. I like both autos and manuals, but auto will be for traffic while manual will be for spiritual driving.
Scotty I had a sales agent teach me how to drive a 1980 standard camaro with the v8. It was awesome for being 22 at the time. Years later bought a 1985 gt mustang in 1986. I had the salesman drive the car for me, because manuals wasn't sure of. It was black with charcoal interior. Loved the car, and had to have the salesperson turn the car around to drive home, about 25 miles. Every time at coming to a stop light hoping it would be green. Eventually I made it home at 24 hrs old. After that, I fell in love with manual cars. People don't realize that buying a manual car makes you feel like your part if the car mostly for men. The car responded to the input of the driver. After the 1985 mustang gt being manual, I never looked back. .
My (retired) wife just bought a 2004 Vette coupe with an automatic, but it's still fun! Only has 44K miles on it and it's in perfect shape as well! She also got a hell of a deal at $18k.
I learned on a manual. Also I definitely prefer manual it makes it harder to not pay attention and it is more engaging. And like you said a lot of fun!
I have a 2015 Honda Civic with 5 speed manual. I searched the country for it, found it in Hartford , CT - a two year old Certified blue car with only 9200 miles on it. I flew out there , picked up and drove home to Colorado, very trouble free and economical car.
Modern shifter cars have advanced help systems, they automatically start you just slowly let go of the clutch pedal don't even need to touch the gas pedal, they have auto hold systems when you stop uphill they'll hold it till they start going again (automatically :D) etc. I've those systems in my 2015 Golf 1.6TDI manual it's not half bad and it's super easy to drive.
@To the point. Limited to only 2 pedals and using letters makes it 1000× difficult than simply using numericals to indicate gears and clutch pedal available for easier control which everyone is already aquainted to
I’ve been driving nothing but manuals since December of 1999. I bought a brand new 2000 Honda Prelude 5 speed, then in May of ‘09 bought what I’m still driving, a 2009 Accord EX-L V6 6 speed coupe. In March of this year I bought a new 2019 Camaro SS 6 speed as well. I will never own an autotragic.

The most beautiful corvette imo...way nicer than the newer ones.
Those Vettes with a manual transmission really are a blast to drive, and nothing beats that V8 sound! 🏁
The color looks great on this Corvette!
I love blue. UV rays will destroy blue and red paint over time. Definitely a garaged car.
Kentucky Wildcat Blue
Hi Scotty!!! I just bought a beautiful black Honda 2021 Civic sport hatchback manual yesterday. It drives amazing, and I'm so happy with my purchase. Save the manuals! ❤️
My skin gets goosebumps Everytime I here a Corvette revving that engine
Beautiful sound.

Same you cant afford that gas money with min wage jobs you spend more on gas than making at work🤯
Can't get enough corvette related videos! I've got a 1995 and a 2009. They are manufactured in Bowling Green, KY just a little ways from you.
The C5 is still beautiful
Very nice, but I think the C6 is better proportioned
@Johhny Johnstone Not really, I still want to own a Z-R1
I proudly drive a 2010 Ford Ranger, 5 speed standard transmission. I absolutely love it!!
And that beautiful kentucky blue. Love it
Was watching one Scotty Kilmer video, and then left it on in the background. A series of other Kilmer teaching videos followed, including this gem. Found myself relaxed, smiling, even cheerful. So there ya have it, listen to Kilmer, and no need to call the doctor in the morning. (and ya thought he was just good for your cars)
The beautiful C5! My favorite body style!
The last of the pop-ups.
I'd say learning how to drive stick is easier when you're learning how to drive because you don't know anything. I taught my girlfriend how to drive on my 2021 WRX which I wouldn't recommend learning how to drive a manual on a WRX, but she did great.
My Two Fav. Colors Blue And Yellow.. Nice Car Scotty!!
It is easy to buy a new car with mechanics from us. And I love driving mechanics.
Scotty... You are the best here
"... Remember to ring that bell!"
I had a 99 C5 for 9 1/2yrs I bought from a 65yr old man. Loved it! Only reason I sold it was to buy a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport. The LS engines r bulletproof & will run forever......
Just bought a 97 Altima with 5 speed Manuel!
Thats a dependable car
I had a 95 Altima with a 5 speed manual but that was years back. It was a good no nonsense car. Cloth seats & AC with electric windows. That was it for modern conveniences. V6 engine too if I remember right. Bought it after the previous driver lease was up. Decent car.
Those were great cars back in the 90s, even with automatic. Well-built and dependable.
Manuel has 5 speeds? Does your 97 Altima have a 5 speed MANUAL??🤪
Bought a 09 one owner sothern California C6 with G51 Ls3. What a great car! 436hp . Great power and handling 30mpg with the cruise set at 80mph. Fairly simply to work on when you compare it to the Porsches I've owned. Great car!
Trying to find a manual car now a days is a rare sight
Finding an auto transmission will be rare in 5 years. All going CVT 😬
@@James-il3tq yea it’s really sad first the manual now the good ol automatics smh
Easiest thing, just say you don't want one.
I love when I do though because they usually go cheaper cause people won't buy em around here
samething with a semi trucks now.
I loved driving manual transmission vehicles, but after years of doing so, developed arthritis due to repetetive strain injury in my left ankle. Will be sticking to automatics the rest of my driving days.
I bought a new Tacoma with a manual. I plan on keeping it for a very long time.
This is the way
Love manual gearbox cars. I just found a cool 2013 Subaru Outback with a stickshift and even though it's a little underpowered, it's still more fun than a tornado in a trailer park!
"Wimpy automatic".
Love stick shift. 👏👏👌
You get more torque to the wheels & it’s less turning in the drive train, so you get better economy.
I always refer to "girl's transmissions," and "boy's transmissions."
This lady disproves my theory, in a HAPPY way ;-)
I was looking for one of these Vettes last year, but could not find one that was just right. This lady sure got a good deal, I think.
Those Opel Kadetts were a real piece of work.
My first car was a '58 Chevy Brookwood station wagon 283 with an automatic transmission. It was a tank. My second car was a '63 Chevy wagon with a three on the column manual transmission and a 283. I found it was easy to learn to shift. After that it was manual transmissions for me.
I've had an 86 fiero gt, automatic transmission, and now have a different 86 fiero gt with the 4spd manual. I enjoy the manual better
Gramps still has his 86 gt with a manual. I love that car.
This would've been great for showoff Sunday! Miss it when scotty had that, car vs car, and wacky Wednesday!
coming soon!
@@scottykilmer Like the car app?
@@scottykilmer that's awesome Scotty, can't wait! Those were definitely my favorites on your channel!
When I saw it it was a bit biased.....American car always won even though it was in poorer condition....but that's only the ones that I watched
I have a 2014 Toyota Matrix with a 5 speed. It's fun to have people in my car that are amazed to see a car that still has a manual transmission
Too much traffic, had to give up standard shift. Hip started bothering me from the stop and go traffic jams.
Bought one (manual) 3 years ago for 1100 still going strong Did replace the clutch master down by pedal. PIA but did it myself.
First manual car was first car , a 1961 VW Bug.
Got my 2005 Honda Civic LX with manual transmission.😀
LUCKY!
I love my 2006 Si 6 speed manual!
I love my 2009 manual civic! Manual civic gang represent
Me: 2006 Acura TL w/6-speed manual. _That's_ a sweet ride. :-)
@@josephgaviota I wonder if someday our old Honda gals will become collectibles? 😁
I love my mustang GT 6 speed. It puts a smile every time I take it out for a drive.
Now everybody's going to be looking for a Corvette owned by little old man or little old ladies
Hey it got me thinking about getting old Vettes from old rich people.
Yeah, get one from that little old lady from Pasadena who granny shifts! LOL
Yup, thats where I got mine, lol.
First owner died in his 90's second sold it at 69 😁.
18,500 k on it!
(Its an automatic , cant get everything)
I don't know what Scotty was talking about regarding the clutch pedals on Corvette Sting Rays (C2) being hard to release. Maybe the one that he drove had an aftermarket clutch. My 1964 Sting Ray is all stock, including its clutch, and I have no problem with its clutch pedal. It doesn't require any more force to release than the pedal in my 2014 WRX STi or my old long-gone 1984 Nissan 720 2WD truck.
Thanks for the video Scotty. It's so nice to see that there are still people out there like me that prefer manual transmissions!
"Small" and "large" is relative. Said no gal ever! 😆😆😆
just ask the Asian girls...
That car is a thing of beauty.
Me: starts searching Craigslist for a manual Corvette.
I lucked out and was able to pull in a GT350. Love driving to work and driving home even more. The sound and performance never gets old.
It gets me pissed how people wont let scotty drive, hello people your car will go up in value😂😂
@@mcc7762 a simple camera mount would solve that problem
@Snails40 bro its a joke, dont take it to heart wtf
@@210SAi finally someone with common sense
Maybe it’s because of insurance?
I'm sure nobody has denied scotty from driving there car! Sure its either because of insurance or scotty asked them to drive so he can film! No mechanics gonna work on your car if he can't road test it!
The Kentucky Litmus test -
Blue Corvette = Kentucky fan
Red Corvette = Louisville fan
I like manual transmissions to automatics any day. There's a 2008 Toyota Matrix listed for sale at a dealership close by with a manual but they are asking too much for it. If I can talk them down it might become mine.
2001 was a sad year when Toyota stopped the manual transmission in the 4runner 😑
I rem the t100 3.4 litre v6 5 speed manual. THAT THING WAS FREAKING AMAZING.
Get Nissan versa
@@MrDonny27 Versa= Garbage
@jared day In areas they sell the 4Runner they don't sell the Hilux. And the areas they sell the Hilux they don't sell the 4Runner. Not now anymore. They used to sell it(or something very similar) under the name of Hilux Surf. Then they stopped maybe a decade or so back. Now there's a Toyota Fortuner which is based on the cabin of the Hilux.
Basically IS a Hilux without a bed.
Love my 6 speed C5. Nothing like rowing through the gears yourself.
My daily driver is in automatic with paddle shifters, there OK, more of a gimmick to give it a "sporty feel", but to be honest I usually forget my car has them.
Everything is wrong, Scotty moved to Tennessee and now likes Chevys 😆
Underrated comment. lol
He's always liked older Chevys (like mid 2000s and older), he hates the newer ones though.
Hell yeah 2 of the least problematic vehicle's I owned were 2004 regular cab Silverado. And a 2006 Sierra.
Standards are so much better! Thank you for this video hopefully it will increase demand for standards!
I do want to get a 2nd car. Thinking of a manual to learn how to drive stick.
There's nothing to think about... You'll wanna sell your automatic after you learn how to drive a stick
@@richsweeney1115 i live in Tampa, fl. There is alot of traffic here, and I heard driving stick in traffic isn't fun.
@@Snarky_Queen I used to live in FL, in brooksville, for a few yrs
And I've mostly lived in the city...yes I shift a lot...so what...it's still better...and lasts longer than an automatic..and less maintenance, in an automatic u gotta change the fluid and filter more
@@richsweeney1115 I think I'm good lol. Waste of time. You're only proving a point to yourself when you have to shift 200 times to get through traffic. Nobody really cares. I like both autos and manuals, but auto will be for traffic while manual will be for spiritual driving.
@@Snarky_Queen the only thing I proved was I wasted time replying to you at all...the attitude wasn't necessary
LOL, Opel standard was my first car too. Opel Manta Rallye. Loved that car. Was yellow with black side stripes and a black hood. Was quite a fun car.
I'm trying to get used to Scotty's new office. Somehow it reminds me of host Steve Lehto's.
It's down a Ben tho
After the 1985 mustang gt being manual, I never looked back. .
manual transmission is the beeeeeeeeeeeeesssssst!!! i love em manuals

Beautiful spec! Such a shame it's tough to get corvettes in Europe..
How much is petrol in the EU per litre?
No need for Corvettes in Europe, you can get much better cars with 300+ hp from an engine the size of a food blender's.
I only drive standard cars. Because automatics are too confusing to drive.
Greetings from Kazakhstan
@To the point. Limited to only 2 pedals and using letters makes it 1000× difficult than simply using numericals to indicate gears and clutch pedal available for easier control which everyone is already aquainted to
I’ve been driving nothing but manuals since December of 1999. I bought a brand new 2000 Honda Prelude 5 speed, then in May of ‘09 bought what I’m still driving, a 2009 Accord EX-L V6 6 speed coupe. In March of this year I bought a new 2019 Camaro SS 6 speed as well. I will never own an autotragic.
