    Since when C70 is not a modern day camera lol. This camera by far beats a lot of "modern day cameras" in my opinion. The C70 is not "muddy", it intentionally has a soft pleasing look of a cinema camera that you can't recreate or compare to a mirrorless camera.

    I think you got this review wrong with quality of image. C70 has better dynamic range out of the bunch when dealing with 4k. You also don’t mention the canon adapter for full frame on super 35. Battery life and ease of use blows away the competition.

    This was a very fair assessment. I use 2 C70's and an R5c. I love the C70 image. That is the only thing I kinda disagree here. I think it was C70 , then BM... Lumix. AF was an issue a while back. I found if I used Continuous over Whole Area it was much better. The focus has had so many firmware updates. It's really good now. I have a lot of RF glass and only one EF 24-70. At this point for me to upgrade the differences need to be HUGE. All my gear is paid for. I will not go into debt for minor improvements. I like watching the influencers buy and rave about that latest and greatest only to dump it and get something else soon after. Kinda entertaining. I shoot almost everything in RAW LT. To an SD card... crazy.

    I’ve had a C70 since it came out, and it has been a fantastic camera for me, haven’t really needed anything else. I’ve just bought the full frame blackmagic on that limited deal, and I do really like the image, but I will continue to use the C70 as my A cam 90% of the time because it just has everything in one user friendly package with excellent dynamic range. Will see how I get on with the blackmagic in some cases though.

    • @matadormartin
      @matadormartin 3 місяці тому +1

      @@RafalGendarz I would say the blackmagic has more wow factor when correctly exposed, but the C70’s sensor is much more forgiving. It has very clean shadows, and you expose down the middle and get a nice image at most ISO’s rather than trying to expose to the right etc. Out and out image though, probably the blackmagic. With the C70 though the usability is very different, you have high quality built in ND’s up to 10 stops, excellent battery life, good autofocus (I’ve never had a problem), lots of codec flavours from H.265 to raw, 4K 120fps with no crop and lots of customisable buttons. So they are quite different cameras really.

    Pretty accurate review, my c70 has been my daily driver for a few years now and sometimes I do feel the auto focus issues (even with the updates), and I've had to get used to the softer details - which still look amazing, I actually prefer them unless I have to match my footage to a sony or something else more clinical. Not to say sony is actually better, because it's not the sharpness I'm after, but getting the two cams to match with slog 3 and clog 2 is a pain depending the lighting situaion - and I've noticed some sony editors have a really hard time getting the details out of the canon image, but if you know how to handle clog2 you can a lot of this camera!
    That said, my c70 plays as a gimbal or B cam to my team's Alexa Mini and the two match very well over all. Arri's log and Canon's are very similar and I feel like that's the market Canon was going after with their whole cine cam lineup - save for the r5c. On a side note, if you want the c70 to not feel like a canon, put the DJI lidar on it and some cine glass, it's a totally different experience :)
    I really like the image on the Black Magic and Lumix as well, but neither cam comes close to c70's run and gun all day battery life, ease of use, and built in ND's for quick adjustmetns. Overheating is also very common in small body mirrorless, but the c70 is just big enough to have a decent fan system and can operate in just about any condition because of it. I have very high hopes for the mk ii version rumored to be lauching later this year!

    Great review - I just got a C70 coming from a C100 M2 so I went into the purchase with both eyes open on the limitations of the super 35 sensor. I'd hesitated buying this camera until Canon came out with the significant firmware updates. My biggest gripe is the lack of even a optional EVF. Clearly this is a camera for run-and-gun shooters and documentary work so it's going to be used outdoors - why no EVF? Overall the camera has more than satisfied my needs and I accept the sharpness and low light limitations and lack of built-in IBIS (digital stabilization is useless in my book). The Camera does not have to apologize for it's limitations - it is a pleasure to shoot with, great battery life, good menus and layout of controls and solid image quality.

    I've own the C70 and I owned the S5mkiix and used as A & B cam on paid gigs. They match well but its obvious in extreme grades the footage on the C70 is far more robust. Where they really seperate as far as post the is the dynamic range. The C70 is head and shoulders above the S5 mkiix in the DR category. I always shot the Panasonic to an external drive ProRess 422 HQ in 6k. The Canon has a softer image but its hard beat the dynamic range its like a chaet code.

    I've kept the C70 on my wish list for a long time. As someone who used the BMPCC4K, I am quite used to the micro-XLR inputs. I also like the 10 stops of internal ND filters. And I've seen a lot of sample footage from the C70 that looks pretty clean overall. I don't mind the slightly less saturated colors. I usually like less saturated colors than an increase in saturation. I've known of the "loose" LCD monitor mount for some time. Personally, I tend to baby my cameras and take extra caution when filming.
    More recently, I've had my eyes on the Lumix S5ii/x. But, if I were to go for a camera with internal ND's, I might possibly get the C70. Unless, Blackmagic comes out with a new PYXIS camera with internal ND's, I might look at that as well. In the end, the C70 is still a strong candidate.

I was using Sony for years but never fell in love with its sharper, more digital look. I much prefer the Canon’s skin tones, although this is subjective. I have owned the Canon EOS C70 since 2021 and while it has served its purpose for me and is a decent "entry" in to the world of "cinema" cameras, I really do think there are better cameras out there and I will be selling mine at the end of this year. Here is my unasked for hot take: The auto focus is only good in perfect lighting conditions and is unusable in low light. The screen is super fragile and has broken on me twice. Once was completely my fault, but the second time, a year and a half later, wasn't. I literally opened the screen, twisted it around and heard a clicking sound. Mini-XLR ports are annoying, having to carry around adapters is stupid. And needing an adapter to make the camera full frame is silly! The Digital IS is unusable, I fully rely on the OIS of my 24-70 for handheld work or a gimbal. On a personal note; the fact that this was the camera that launched the RF mount and wasn't a full frame is super annoying... Get it? Because it's a Super 35 Camera? DGO technology is nice, but is honestly kind of wasted on this camera. The two best things about this camera are the built-in ND filters and the battery life. Though I totally get the argument for the ND system on the FX6. Sometimes with the C70, I either put on too much ND or not enough and there's no in between, I wish I could dial in just a bit of ND when I need to keep the image from clipping just a bit. I know people will argue about the C400, and say that I should get that camera and stick with Canon... Triple Base ISO sound amazing, but that camera is 5 years late for me to care... The C400 is the camera that should have launched the RF line of lenses. I personally believe that Canon is years behind the other brands, especially Sony and Panasonic. I mean, just look at the C400... This is their first camera with multi-base ISO options, other brands have been doing that for years. The Panasonic EVA-1 had Dual Native ISO way back in 2017! Don't get the C70. Not a fan! There are better cameras out there! -- P.S. If you are going invest in this camera PLEASE do your self a favor and don't just get the 2 year Carepak, get the longest one that you can. My Carepak service plan ran out two years ago and I have had to pay out of pocket for my repairs totally around $1,500 - $2,000 at this point. I fully understand that owning a cinema camera is expensive, I'm not complaining about that, it just might be a shock to some people who have never used a cinema camera before. I even bought into Canon Professional Services which was a lot... used to be free. I do believe that the Canon EOS C70 should have been recalled. The early batches were clearly not ready in 2021 for how many people had to have their screens replaced. Literally, everyone I know with this camera had their screens replaced within the first year of ownership... Not sure if it's fixed now, but it was really bad back in early - mid 2021.

      Pump the screen luminance value to +2 and it's not really a problem. If you need critical focus, setup your magnifier to display B&W when checking your focus and don't forget the built in false color is more accurate to what the sensor is seeing vs a 3rd party monitor's. I haven't had any real issues shooting in bright desert or snow with this setup, but if you're shooting with manual focus I'd still recommend a second monitor to be safe.
      A lot of people I've talked to don't know about the +2 luminance trick, it helps a lot. But if you're just using auto focus it's easy enough to see the green and white boxes of the focus and tracking systems even with sun glare directly on your screen... Just check the shot afterwards to make sure it stuck the whole time.
