I'm loving this series of videos. Please keep the content coming! Ringo was my first drum hero. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and collection with us
Thanks very much for this. Very interesting. I think that you had a Beatles' head with Ringo's autograph - you should have shown us that! Guitar companies also benefitted greatly from sales in the 60s as a direct result of The Beatles using their instruments.
"First couple of records" were PREMIER!!!!! Please, Please Me!-----The Premier kit was used on the following Beatles recordings: Love Me Do (Single Version) (Past Masters) How Do You Do It (Anthology 1) P.S. I Love You (Please Please Me) Please Please Me (Please Please Me) Ask Me Why (Please Please Me) There's A Place (Please Please Me) I Saw Her Standing There (Please Please Me) A Taste of Honey (Please Please Me) Do You Want To Know A Secret (Please Please Me) Misery (Please Please Me) Anna (Go To Him) (Please Please Me) Boys (Please Please Me) Chains (Please Please Me) Baby It's You (Please Please Me) Twist and Shout (Please Please Me) From Me To You (Past Masters) Thank You Girl (Past Masters) One After 909 (Anthology 1)
My snare is 14 x 5 3/8. The hardware appears to be nickel plated not chrome. But all original. Black Oyster pearl not a rewrap. Thank you for sharing what this snare could go for. EBAY has one about the same condition for $11,000. I know, asking ain't gettin'
Hi Donn! I just found you on You Tube. I live in Tacoma and you are in Bellevue: I have a Beatles tribute band called British Export and I still have my original black oyster pearl Jazz festival kit including THE Ringo snare. It needs some sprucing up with the hardware. Thought I could bring it in for your evaluation.
Jim, Just seeing your message now. I'd love to see your drums. My shop is actually in Burien. Let me know when you'd like to come by. I've heard of British Export. I'd love to see you guys sometime. You can get my contact at my www.DonnBennett.com website. Talk soon. Thanx! Donn
My first set was an original black oyster pearl Ludwig 20, 12, 14 with a 14x5 snare. Cymbal stand bass drum mount. I so regret letting it go as a trade for a Tama Superstar. Still have the superstar and since have bought a remake of the little fab 4 kit in silver sparkle. I love drums.
The Beatles first album, Please Please Me, he used his Premier kit. The old brown one he used throughout his time Rory Storm and the Hurricanes and all those Cavern gigs.
Sure sounds good. I'm curious how you tune the drums for the various eras. And on the Hey Jude era, do you take the bottom heads off the toms as well as the kick drum? I have a Ludwig Classic Maple, (which ain't the same, I know), but when I put tea towels on, it doesn't sound right like yours does. Looks like all you have are two overhead mics, too.
Gary, Thanks!! I have tried to find a set of "Ringo Maples" my whole life. I've never found one that was all "correct". It will find me sooner or later.
Hello congratulations for the video, i'm a fan of ringo i love ringo starr, i wanted to ask you what dishes / cymbals do you use in the video.thanks to happy hoolidays
I'm curious, how much do you have your drum collection insured for? It just seems priceless, I don't know how you could possibly put a total value to it and I'm just talking about what I know of it which is probably only a fraction of what you have. These videos are very cool!
Man, once you get bit by the collecting bug it's hard to keep yourself from being constantly and obsessively on the prowl. I collect comics, records, novels, movies, etc. and I'm can't stop thinking about or searching for the next item I want. I have four drum sets, but I don't consider myself a collector of drums...
That was amazing! Thank you for sharing Don.
Donn, you're the man! gorgeous kits!!
Enjoyed this very much. Love the history lesson on Ringo and the Beatles. Thank you!

Hi Donn, I'm new here and very much enjoy your videos. Quick question, the background music is performed by whom?
Sure sounds good. I'm curious how you tune the drums for the various eras. And on the Hey Jude era, do you take the bottom heads off the toms as well as the kick drum? That set from That Thing You Do was actually for sale several years back. No idea where it is now.

HA! I never thought of my self as a drum collector either. It wasn't a conscious thing. I felt like more of a drum "acquirer"
