    Pleasantly surprised you asked them a lot more questions other than what the title of the video says, the conversations flowed very naturally and they gave some interesting answers. You deserve a lot more views, keep it up.

    Since I'm very interested in Japanese culture, I'm very glad I stumbled across your channel. Your videos are like they`re made for me, because I'm most interested in everyday life and the opinions and views of "normal" Japanese people. There are some Europeans (and Germans) who live in Japan and produce (kind of) similar videos, but I think it contributes a lot to the openness of the respondents that you are their compatriot. I like your videos very much. You ask interesting questions and I like your style of interviewing. Keep it up! Greetings from Germany.

    The Japanese may appear to be tolerant because of their mild nature, but they have an exclusiveness that unites to shut down those who do not behave well or try to integrate into society without hesitation. In fact, there are quite a few people who harbor simmering resentment toward foreigners based on their experiences with foreign tourists or foreign workers who do not observe proper manners. The reason the Japanese are so well-behaved is because they are afraid of such hatred.
    Of course, manners are important in any country, but in Japan it is necessary to be cautious because many manners are not explicitly stated, and answers may not be clear even when asked. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with such information by watching videos like this before coming to Japan.
    In one common case, people who do not stand in line are really hated by all Japanese. If you are accompanied by a Japanese person and you do something rude like that, the Japanese person will be very embarrassed and will have a hard time explaining to you that this is absolutely not the way to do it.

    The funny thing about videos like these is that as a foreigner, I often see Japanese people doing the exact things that they tell foreigners not to do. I feel that as a foreigner, Japanese people pay more attention to them then they do other Japanese people. So if a Japanese person is noisy on the train,they don’t notice it, but if a foreigner is, they definitely notice. I’ve been on trains in Tokyo where the Japanese people were so noisy that I got off at the next station and changed cars lol.

    Im gonna share a story of a Japanese Rail Guard, in Sapporo central station. We were searching for a way out and he (around 60 yo) gives us this stick, we spoke into, it translated what we spoke. Then he showed us the way out of the underground railroad with the translation both ways. But we couldnt find it. He followed us and took us by the hand to makes sure we got our next train. He was such a hero. But yea, even English only is no problem for them. We would speak in his translation device and he would understand. He would state the instructions and they were translated. I was so amazed. Anyway, just goes to show, If you travel JP without JP knowledge, ask around!

    The way you made the questions flow with the conversation was so good! Like with the first lady you asked her if she spoke English and how hard was for her to communicate to then ask her if she considered that foreigners should learn Japanese to make Japanese friends. It was very interesting to see the interactions in this video. Thank you very much and I hope you get a lot more recognition. You deserve it!

    I find that Japanese people have quite a high ability in reading and writing in English. As mentioned at 10:50 , however, many seem to lack confidence in speaking English. Overcoming that barrier and just jumping in, is the key to mastery. That said, as a visitor I prefer having to immerse myself in the country's language and I would never ever expect proficiency in other languages on the part of natives.

    • @IR-xy3ij
      @IR-xy3ij Рік тому

      It's always good to know a lingua franca so that you can communicate with foreigners who don't speak your language. Similarly I would never expect proficiency in English in a country that I visit, but at the same time I've had some weird experiences with people trying too hard to speak the native language.

      Most people outside of English-speaking countries do not have this gay worldview where everything has to be politically correct and fit a nice way of saying things. Simply put, you are allowed to be slightly looser with social and cultural norms when you are a native of a country, but foreigners have to be more conscious of their status as a guest who must follow the rules. The same thing applies to your home, right? You are allowed to occasionally walk on your floors with shoes on if you feel it's okay, but it's still rude for someone to come in and walk on them in that way.
