Her victory wasn't just for her. It was for anyone who'd ever been bullied, teased, or made fun of for simply being who they are. She showed that it doesn't matter how you look on the outside, as long as you're happy with yourself! And that's what makes her and this song so special.
At least I can agree upon that. Some LBTG.people make this song being about them, but it is not. It's for everyone. I don't like the song / her personally, but I can appreaciate the message behind it

People nowadays do not recognise just how influential of a winner Conchita Wurst was. I was 11 when she won and for the next week or so all anyone was talking about was the bearded lady that won Eurovision. She tore down so many stereotypes and preconceptions that people had and challenged so much queerphobia around Europe. While she isn't quite my personal favourite winner (that honor goes to Jamala) she is without a doubt the most impactful.

I don't get the people who say she ONLY won due to her look. Of course her appearance boosted her whole performance. But I mean, imagine if she had competed with, let's say, Georgia's song. People nowadays do not recognise just how influential of a winner Conchita Wurst was. I was 11 when she won and for the next week or so all anyone was talking about was the bearded lady that won Eurovision. She tore down so many stereotypes and preconceptions that people had and challenged so much queerphobia around Europe. While she isn't quite my personal favourite winner (that honor goes to Jamala) she is without a doubt the most impactful.
