Fun facts:
1. Wukong has 72 transformations.
2. And yep, Wukong shrinks his staff to the size of a needle and puts in behind or in his ear when he's not using it.
Also Wukong in Japanese is Son Goku

The 72 hen "變" doesn't refer to 72 transformation, it refers to "tricks", "變幻". Wukong has 72 tricks, transformation is only 1 of them. 72 includes stuff like soul track, soul catch, Demon slaying, medicine, spirit summon, invisibility, water breathing, Fire immunity, wind control, earth dive.... 72 of them
Thank you. The crazy part is that a team of 30 people did this, and they made this trailer in order to hire more staff to work with them on the game.
The boss fight is in 黑风山 Black Wind Mountain, Guanyin temple originally in the novel chapter 16. Where the Wolf 灵虚子 is a friend of the "Head" of Black Wind Mountain, which the Head boss of black wind mount is a black grizzly 黑熊怪. The boss in the video, the wolf went there to celebrate Black Grizzly‘s birthday. 灵虚子 also brought 2 "Golden Revitalizers" as a gift, but he got killed by Wukong - the monkey king midway.
Wukong- the monkey king can shape-shift into 72 different creatures, that's why you see him throughout the video as a golden cicada. He was born from a rock, a rock has been getting all the earthen sun and moon essence, that is why he could change to a larger monkey and smash the ground. And also the way he "parrys" the attacks is one of his other abilities, called 铜头铁臂 direct translation is the Copper head and iron arm which makes him durable to physical attacks. The move he freezes others is called 定身术 - Immobilization or paralyzation.
His fur(S)/hair can make clones of himself and other things.
I guess one of this game's system is to be able to get the defeated mini-bosses' weapon as artifacts and use them against the bosses, that is why he transforms into the wolf using the flame spear.
When he was trying to finish off 灵虚子, he got blocked by another version of himself? I assume the play through character represents the dark side of the monkey king? These are just my guesses.
His Weapon is a stick/staff called 如意金箍棒 - the Monkey King Bar. Which and elongation, shorten, largen, and shrink. That's why you see him puts/pull it to/from his ear. In the end, the cloud he was riding is called 筋斗云. He can also travel 180K kilometers with one single somersault. Also at the very end, that is him 大闹天宫 - battles in heaven. Chapter 4-6 in the novel.
All the bosses in the ending quick flash are all present some gods or demons.

如意金箍棒, the staff that the monkey king uses has a story of it's own. The monkey king raided the undersea king's castle and when offered all kinds of weapons, chose to take the main supporting pillar of the castle instead.
Other notable heroes from this story is The Pig man, 猪八戒 - who wields a magic rake and 沙僧 or Sand Monk, a less mentioned hero.
Each of these three heroes represents a certain set of human virtues. These three make up what humanity is and on their journey with the monk to the west, they seek enlightenment and to discover their place in the world.
Much respect to the brother in the video that said that he wanted to find out the back story of the game.
Lol their lead director said that the trailer looked bad and that it needed improvement. That just seriously tells you what’s up.
Music Is Life no, the developer actually put out a list of things that they needed to work on that. Like, Jeng Fi (Developer) pointed specifically to small details that many didn’t even notice: sculpting of smaller 3D models, a lack of water physics effectively applied, and a frame-rate drop during the ‘thousand enemy Musou sequence’ which ‘horrified’ the developers when they saw that the entire world had latched onto their offerings.

I commend yall for knowing somewhat about his back story. You do not know, just how insanely popular and how much this means to us in the Asian communities. We grew up on this character via one of the most legendary Four Classic Novels. The story behind this is one of the greatest life lessons. For those that didn't know, Goku from Dragonball franchise is based on this character hence his tail, staff and nimbus cloud. Sun Wokun is THE STRONGEST immortal being, aside from buddha and Guan Ying goddess. He knows all aspect of 72 transformations, he can somersault 187k in single flip, his staff (original size) is very huge and heavy but can retract to fit his prowess combat and to be stored in his ear (also it can control ocean currents), and he is the only one that invaded heaven itself and went to war with heaven's army. This brings tears to my eyes that after 40 years, we finally gotten a game of his story. Also, the ending of the trailer include the original theme song of the 1980s TV adaptation.😭😭❤❤🙌👏
@Cassa Miller the novel is 100 chapters. You can get it online. Or just watch TV series of it. It's called Journey to the West. There are movies about him called Monkey King. Don't for the love of buddha watch the Netflix American version of it. Fucking sucks ass
@Cassa There are English translations of Journey to the West. I also highly recommend checking out Overly Sarcastic Productions on UA-cam. They covered JTTW in separate videos and summarize the plot with cute narration and funny animations.
@Francis K the novel is very very old, it was written in Ming dynasty by famous writer Wu Chengen 500 years ago, but modern people are still carzy for it.
This is basically like an Eastern version of God of War, using their own Mythology instead of White/Anglo Mythology....really awesome and already on the God of War PS4 Level.

Music Is Life If you’re talking about that shooting game where you’re on a plane that’s because most of everything in that game are borrowed assets. Existing code, models, and physics that someone(with talent of course) altered.
Nothing about Wukong is a borrowed asset. I think you underestimate what kind of work would be needed for this, not just the extreme work but the MONEY. I doubt 3 people would come together with 100 million or so in budget.
The developers released the footage because the work needed to maintain this game is TOO much for their already 30+ staff. Not to mention these 30 or so employees are veterans in the field with like 15 years of experience. So yeah, 3 people aren’t making something like this. Maybe in the far future when technology is tremendously better and games become less expensive to make.
Didn't they work for some big mobile games company and then eventually went and did their own and put a lot of time into this and it shows and using this to get more people to help finish it...they breaking into the triple A game quality one their own good stuff

Just to clarify. The monkey that stopped the other monkey at 12:50 was the real Sun Wukong himself while the gameplay we saw in the first 10 minutes was the fake monkey king called Macaque in Chinese Mythology he poses as Wukong and even takes on Wukongs appearance, he even attempted to take his own journey to the west and get the scriptures from Buddha himself as a disguised monkey king, and he also attempted to kill Sun Wukong but ultimately only Buddha could tell the difference between them and Wukong killed Macaque out of sheer anger.
So we play ad Macaque and Sun wukong or just Macaque

That's him, who he was or the legend he will become. This is an inwards journey as much as it is an outward one. The mythology and lore of Wukong is an awesome and lengthy one that dates back hundreds of years.

It's base on Journey to the West origin from chinese ancient tales of Sun Wukong (aka Son Goku which is the adaptation of japanese anime/manga version). Just fyi 😉 that Wukong is the classic and OG among all the version of monkey king/goku/ wukong and the OST at the end hits right damnnn at the feel sonnyyyyy

This was meant to be a recruitment video of sort. Just to show possible recruits where and what the studio are doing. They were only 30 working on it so they are still some way out. Also the CEO released a video where you can see him play this game and humble enough to judge and criticize what they need to improve.
You guys either gotta pick up "A Journey To The West" or do light research on just the main monkey, Sun Wukong, here. Hes got a magic bar(Ruyi Jingu Bang) that can grow to any size(as small as a needle, to as large enough to fill the empty voids of the whole universe!), multiply, and fight/fly according to his thoughts. That alone beside his other powers(just look it up) is better than Spider-man and Superman put together! I'm not Chinese born or grew up watching the festivals in his honor, but this was the reason I got into mma as a whole.
This and Lost Soul Acid..I mean Aside ( OG Old Ecomog reference)..are the most shadow hype games coming out
I just checked on some updates on that game and apparently a guy from The Devil May Cry team is helping out with the development now , and it looks incredible at the moment. I can really see his involvement in the combat alone

Son Goku from Dragon ball is based on him, Son Goku is Japanese and in chinese literally translates Sun Wukong. I"m also hyped for this, and it will be a day 1 purchase!

Chinese mythology is a very complex system. I can explain the basic concept of the chinese mythology.
First the structure of chinese pantheon. Chinese traditional mythology is called Daoism. But after Buddhism come to China, it got absorbed by Chinese pantheon. The supreme god king governing heaven in daoism is jade emperor. But the one who created the universe was the ancient titan pangu. Pangu died from exhaustion soon after he creates the universe. The jade emperor and three pure one control most of the universe after him. They assigned king Yama to govern the underworld. Four great dragon kings to govern the sea. But they all pledge loyalty to jade emperor. Great goddess Nuwa creates humanity after the creation of the world. Buddha is technically the most powerful entity after the death of pangu. Because Buddhism believe he is one with universe. Therefore both Buddhism god and daoism god show respect to each other, and often work together.
Second is the power structure of chinese mythology. The biggest difference between Chinese mythology and western mythology. Is the fact that in Chinese mythology, mortal can become god by practicing daoism or Buddhism. Which many western mythology can’t. This gives people more hope and give them reason to study daoism and Buddhism. However this freedom also give birth to demon(youkai). In chinese the concept of demon is not the same as west. Chinese demon were once mortal creatures who practiced daoism or Buddhism. They use the power in evil way and because corrupted. This goes for animal too. Both human and animals have possibilities of becoming demon. That’s why in journey of west there are tiger demon or fish demon. Due to the fact all youkai Practice daoism or Buddhism. In chinese mythology demon are considered very intelligent beings. Also most demon aim to become god, because in chinese mythology gods are the final stage of evolution.
Now we can talk about monkey king wukong and journey of the west. Monkey king is the hero in chinese mythology. He’s just like Thor in Norse mythology or Hercules in Greek. Monkey king was loved by chinese people. But monkey king wasn’t a righteous figure when he first appeared. Monkey king was a stone monkey who came from the magical stone of goddess nuwa. He was a trickster and a morally neutral existence. He soon became the king of monkeys and learn daoism under a great daoist saint. During the process he learn immortality and become so powerful that almost no god can beat him. After he gain such strength, he went to the dragon king palace and acquired weapons and armor. Went to underworld and delete his name from book of death. He soon make alliance with demon kings in the mortal realm. Making him one of the greatest demon king in existence. When jade emperor discovered this, he give wukong a job in heaven. Which wukong gladly accept. But jade emperor still didn’t quite understand how strong wukong is. So he give him a position as stable boy for taming heavenly horses. Wukong feels extremely humiliated. So he quit the job and give him self the title of great sage equal to heaven in revenge. Heaven sees wukong’s refusal of the job as an insult. But after long discussion, they give wukong the title of great sage equal to heaven and invite him once more to live in heaven. As guardian of immortal peach garden. But monkey screw up his job again, because he end up eating all the peaches and even steal some pills of immortality. That finally angered the jade emperor. He dispatched the entire army of Heaven to arrest wukong. Monkey king was unrivaled in power even for gods. Only the great warrior god Erlang could fight him in equal strength. They eventually did capture the monkey through trap, but can’t find any way to kill him. Because he’s so bloody immortal, nothing can hurt him. He eventually break loss again and causing even greater havoc in heaven. Jade emperor finally calls the buddha himself to fix the problems. Buddha being the strongest beings in existence, easily subdue wukong, and trap him under a magical mountain. 500 years later Buddha send a chinese monk name Xiang Zang to retrieve the holy scripture from India. He choose wukong as one of monks body guards. Finally wukong was freed from the prison. But this time he humbly protect the monk in his journey to the west. During the process he starts to respect the monk. Also becoming a more humble and righteous person. He eventually was reworded by the Buddha and become a Buddha himself
Bro it looks incredible really, and if I had one single criticism about it, it's that it seems that as you progress and get stronger the game kinda goes full Musou (as we see at 14:03) and I don't really mess with that as heavy as the rest of what I saw. That's the only thing, but it ain't a deal breaker or nothing though.

Journey to the West is an awesome novel!! The novel is full of action and adventure.
The game looks amazing already and it's pre-alpha. Would you believe the creators apologized for the state of this. 72 abilities have been confirmed but we have wait at least a year for this gem! My one fear, will it get a western release? The great sage equal of heaven, the Monkey King! People don't know, get to know! Goku from dragon ball is loose adaptation of Monkey King.
